Cream! But then I am piggy so a nice layer of whipped cream would appeal to me

I bet you will have a stress free shop tomorrow night Myjob, I made the mistake of getting an early slot. I'd imagine there'd still be quite a bit left as this is all before the real sale starts. Or so the e-mail implies.

PF- re the hedge. What a pita!

Ekka- Poor ds, we have similar incidents here, I'm wondering when J will discover a sense of fear

Has N had nuts yet myjob? Peanut butter would prob taste nice with banana.

at 76cm jenwa - that's really tall! Ds was measured at 74cm yesterday, and 11.26kg (25lb somethingorother)

I appear to be in the house of vomit today. Ds was sick a few times this morning, and I sadly put it down to the tiny bit of butter and bit of milk in an ice cream cone (just the cone, not actual ice cream) that I had yesterday, but then he was sick again just before his lunch, and I began to doubt it, and then dd was sick in the garden this afternoon. We had a playdate round, but they left when she was sick for the second time as they are going on holiday at the weekend and so obviously don't want to catch any bugs now!

aubergenie · 16/07/2009 15:30

Oh dear about the vomit CSWS.

Not sure what's best to sandwich the cake together with Myjob, but I do know it freezes well so maybe you could slice it up and pop it in the freezer then take a slice out as and when you need it.

jenwa · 16/07/2009 16:15

at 25 lbs csws (where is the button for the pound sign? I am using a lower case L and a b!) P has grown 2 cm in a month!

mmmm at the peanut butter with the cake. Hungry now! I am just cooking a roast.

RachieW · 16/07/2009 16:29

Myjob- I managed to get ds lots of trousers and tops. I wanted a stockpile for when he starts Nursery and also just for the 9-12 month part of his wardrobe really as all he has in those sizes are shorts and t-shirts. Even though J now weighs 19lb he is still wearing some 3-6 month trousers. He doesn't look particulary big but is long so I guess his 19lb is spread out. Having said that the 3-6 trousers are a little bit short but it doesn't matter in this weather as he doesn't wear socks (just eats them) so they look a bit like long half masts cropped trousers

Have you solved the cake dilema yet? The problem is all the lovely fruit you have in would be great with a yougurt or maybe creme fraiche but maybe a bit dry alone. I hate it when you have everything but one ingredient.

Jenwa- I missed your post earlier. Sorry you had such a bad day yesterday. How nice of your dh to support you in leaving work if you want to I'm sorry to be nosey, I think I must have missed this as I joined this group late, but what is the problem with your hearing?

We were supposed to be going to Pizza Express with some friends and their ds tonight but they can't make it now due to illness. Was looking forward to taking ds and trying him with some pizza so just spoke to dh and we are still going to go alone. We never go out with ds of an evening so it will be interesting to see how it goes. Having said this we are planning to go at 6pm to be back for his bedtime just after 8....oooh so living on the edge

Sorry to hear about the sick dc's CSWS- hope it's just a 24hr thing and not swine flu or anything else nasty.

star6 · 16/07/2009 16:53

Rachie - We used to go out for dinner loads more when Q was smaller.. he was breastfeeding ALL THE TIME so I just brought my cover thing and fed him practically the whole time we ate and DH winded him... now he can sit in a proper high chair and it's fun in a different way . That in between stage when he was barely sitting up and not so happy in the highchair was a real bummer.
If you go to pizza express, can you just feed the baby pizza? When can I start giving Q food that we get at a restaurant? Now? We always bring these little plastic pots of things for him and a piece of bread of course... I do give him bread on ocassion from restaurants and fruit/veg.
peanut butter with banana cake! mmmmmm

CantSleepWontSleep · 16/07/2009 17:08

It depends what kind of restaurants you go to star. As long as the food isn't too salty, you could give him it now. Pasta with tomato sauce is usually a good one to pick that most restaurants have.

OP posts:
star6 · 16/07/2009 17:13

we don't go anywhere fancy... pizza express, maybe indian or thai once in a while (but I wouldn't give him that!), carluccios...that sort of thing. No mcdonalds or suchlike.

star6 · 16/07/2009 17:20

I am feeling so right now. My best friend has this new guy and it's great and I'm so happy she's happy, but its like he's her new best friend... you know? I used to spend most of my time with her and we'd text and talk all the time and now she does that with him. Iknow I sound like a selfish child... I jsut miss it, that's all. I tried to tell her in a gentle way but that didn't go over well She's the only person I've opened up to totally and trusted totally in a really long time and now I'm going through a rocky stage with DH and having all this trouble with the stupid smear test...etc... and I just feel like i have nowhere (except MN of course ) to turn I supported her throughout so much and am ALWAYS right there when she needs or willing to help out with kids or do absolutely anything for her... now some guy comes along (she's known him a couple of months.. not even) and all of a sudden he's top priority... I know it sounds stupid and childish... and I'm so happy shes so happy now after being so unhappy...
Is it totally selfish to want the same support in return?? I should just let her be happy and enjoy life now and not expect her to be there, I know. I'm a doormat. Whenever I try to bring something up, she always has a justification for it.

for you Star. It's hard when friendships change isn't it.

Also for you Jenwa. I only just saw your post about work (I'm rubbish - have no time and end up skim-reading and missing important things). I know you've probably already said and I've probably missed it, but do you wear a hearing aid?

MM- I saw a girl from my baby group today who has recently had the exact same operation as you. She lost most of her ovary too and the cyst was too big for keyhole surgery. Anyway, she said that the first couple of weeks were hard and she felt awful but that she felt loads better quite quickly after that. Hopefully it'll be the same for you. Are you taking arnica? It's great for healing.

I'm making some oatmilk this evening. Dead easy and SO much cheaper (if it works).

star6 · 16/07/2009 19:32

tell more about the oatmilk aubergenie. So much cheaper than what?

aubergenie · 16/07/2009 19:58

So much cheaper to make your own oatmilk than to buy it. And much less packaging too. I'm not dairy free but dp isn't drinking milk any more and oatmilk is quite pricy.

It's so easy to make - one cup of oats to 2 cups of water. Leave overnight and then strain and keep in the fridge. Apparently you can still use the oats afterwards too.

star6 · 16/07/2009 20:21

Do you cook the oats?

star6 · 16/07/2009 20:23

anyone still giving a 10 or 11pm bf ? Or am I just babying my baby ?

Oh star, it's such a difficult one, as I can see it from both sides. From her pov she prob sees that you have a husband and a baby and therefore a whole life outside of your friendship, and she just wants the same. Are things really that bad with dh? I knew that he had his faults and was annoying you a bit, but I didn't realise that it was serious.

Aubergenie - home made oatmilk sounds great in theory, but what about the added calcium in the bought one?!

I don't routinely give a 10 or 11pm bf, but then I never have. I just feed when he wakes and seems to want one.

I know that we're not supposed to like McDonalds, and I very rarely go there (or anywhere else to eat tbh, as we tend to eat at home usually), but I do actually like their food, and it's quite good for dairy free, unlike so many other fancier restaurants. I blardy love their vanilla thickshakes too, but they are obv off the menu at the moment.

Well bedtime here was a vomit fest. Dd threw up just before her bath. Ds threw up just after finishing one breast of milk of his bedtime feed, when he was just nice and sleepy. Then dd threw up when I took her up to bed after cleaning/changing/re-feeding/settling ds. Think we're going to be in for an interesting night! Dh is going to sleep back up in dd's room so that he's on hand if she is ill.

OP posts:
aubergenie · 16/07/2009 20:41

Star - No, just sling them in as they are and leave to soak. I haven't been able to resist going in and stirring them a few times but I don't think it's neccessary.

I'm like Pistachio - we just feed whenever too. Ds went to sleep at 7 and hasn't stirred. Very unusual for him - he's usually woken up a couple of times by now.

RachieW · 16/07/2009 20:45

Star- I'm so sorry your feeling Like Aubergenie said it's really difficult when friendships change. I don't feel like I really have one best friend and haven't for years because life seems to happen and we grow apart for lots of reasons. I do have lots of close friends but I'm a bit of a hide my feelings person so I often don't let on whats really going on in my life. In fact I'd be more likely to tell you guys. I don't know about you but I think it's tricky having just had a baby. I've got all these new 'baby friends' who probably know more of my day to day life and worries regarding ds and then my older friends who know more about me but not really about me now, iykwim So really I've got two sets of friends who each know about half of me! Also not being at work has made me realise who my friends there are which is good in someways as I know I've made some really good friendships but sad too as I now know that some people I thought I was close too I really wasn't.

I don't think you are being childish as we all need our friends and you have things going on at the moment that you need support with. But maybe bear with her. I know since ds was born I've been so caught up in him I've been quite a rubbish friend so it's probably similar for her in someways, I'm sure she doesn't mean to be exluding you but is just caught up in her new relationship. And I would bet money that once this honeymoon period is over she realise how much she has neglected you and needs you.

Well we went to our local Italian in the end as PE is a drive away but we can walk to the local one. Ds had pasta with chicken, green beans, potatoes and pesto sauce. He loved it, I have no idea about the salt content but I figured I'm usually so careful that a once off would be ok. I would say let Q try restaurant food now but maybe take a back up? Mind you having said that all I took were organix crisps as I'm lazy! I can't believe how confident I've become about blw or maybe I should say blaise

Oh and I'm not bf but we still give ds a 10/11pm bottle feed to see him through the night. Am hoping he will let me know when he doesn't need it. Actually am considering not doing it tonight as he's only just had his last bottle. Will let you know what happens.

Phew that was a mammoth reply!

CantSleepWontSleep · 16/07/2009 20:47

Can I have your recipe too please pistachio?

Forgot to answer re carseat. Ds will have dd's old Britax DuoPlus Isofix. He's been in it a couple of times in dh's car now (no back doors so v hard to get to a rear facing one in there), which baffled him totally the first time I think, as we had the roof down too!

RachieW · 16/07/2009 20:49

CSWS- I am liking your MacDonalds confession! I will now confess I like it too and ate it on Sunday

Honeymoonmummy · 16/07/2009 20:53

Hey all. Jenwa, I'm really sorry to hear you've had such a hard time at work. I'm sure it'll get better as you get back into the swing of things, it was probably the emotions of having to go back and maybe having less sleep? as well as you getting stressed out about your hearing x

MM, I'm really pleased to hear it went well. What a nightmare about BF Martha, after all that trouble you went to! They gave me some good painkillers after birth which I could take when BF, as well as paracetomol (apparently paracetomol on a drip is as good as morphine? ) but I don't know the name of the other drugs. If you're in discomfort ask for something else. When are you likely to be released?

I'm planning to go back to work (without Poppy) for the first time tomorrow, just to do a half-day keep in touch day. I am not feeling nervous about it actually, mainly because I won't be under any pressure, I'll just be clearing my emails and saying hello to everyone.

Poppy did her last swimming lesson before the summer hols today. She really likes being in the water now, such a change from how reserved she was at the start of the term. I was planning to start going every week with PIL to the local swimming pool so I could do some laps while they hold Poppy, but I'm a bit wary now with the swine flu...is anyone else changing their routine to avoid it? There have been a few cases in our town now.

CSWS, congrats on the tooth (finally!) and sorry to hear about the vomit-fest

Aubergenie, thanks for the banana cake recipe, I'm going to try that. I can't believe you're making your own oat milk too, you're such a domestic goddess! I'm still drinking oat milk and having Pure dairy free marg, as I got quite used to it and I figured it couldn't hurt to continue with it, esp as the oat milk is less fattening and I have the added calcium one. I'm eating cheese and occasional chocolate tho

Wish me luck at work tomorrow folks!
