Evening all, I've had a lovely day with ds today. It's funny, although I used to enjoy spending time with him, I really appreciated him having spent some time away. DP has been brilliant this week and has cooked dinner every evening even though he's been exhausted by his time looking after S.

Star - Can I just say that I'm in awe of you managing to express milk for Q for all this time as well as holding down a full time job. We're having the same thing that you were with Q in that S isn't drinking much milk during the day. We've bought some different bottles in the hope that might make a difference.

Ronshar - I wasn't on earlier but I would have said send your DD to give you both a break from each other. Also, I realised that I didn't reply to a q you asked ages ago about a teacher present. Someone else suggested a photo frame. I think it's a really lovely idea. So many of the children at my school have asked me about S. The teacher would be happy and the kids would love it too.

Pistachio - I loved your breadstick trick too.

PF - Glad you're back with us again!

I think I'm going to head for bed in a few mins. S's sleeping is still up the spout. I think it's teething related as he keeps pulling his ear.

Marthasmama · 09/07/2009 21:26

Yeah yeah!!!! I win the teachers present idea!

Me?....competitive?....never!

Aubergenie - Is DP a SAHD now? You probably said before but I can't remember. Glad you had a lovely day with S.

Marthasmama · 09/07/2009 22:01

Where is everybody?

CantSleepWontSleep · 09/07/2009 22:41

Hello. I've been catching up with Masterchef and one episode of House, interspersed with medicating ds. He's now had gripe water (given pre bedtime feed just in case), nurofen, calpol, a small extra feed, lots of cuddles, and it sounds like he's waking again.
He's only had a total of 20mins nap all day too. Think I'm in for a bad night, so am heading up now - already much later than planned due to the frequent interruptions. I think there may be multiple teeth on the way.

Oh dear CSWS, poor D. M is nearly better but we have had a couple of terrible fevery nights. She had a rash which started out as little blisters but apparently it's not chicken pox. What looks like chicken pox and acts like chicken pox but isn't chicken pox.....? Hope your night isn't too awful.

star6 · 10/07/2009 08:00

re teacher gift, my parents this year made me a beautiful plate with all the kids "signatures" on it with little bumblebees and butterflies (cute) and as bigger gift, they made a donation in our names (dh, Q and I) to great ormond street hospital. That was the best gift I've EVER gotten from my class. Of course, they all have loads of money so teacher gifts are always a bit more extravagant than in a typical school... but I'm always so embarrassed receiving something expensive. The charity donation was spot on

That's a fabulous present star.

night wasn't as expected. He slept through til 5:45am, but then started the day!

Morning! Had a really busy day yesterday so no time to be here Ds slept terribly, teething again. I ended up trying to sleep on his bedroom floor but then realised that was stupid so we all slept in our bed. His second top tooth seems to be practically through and he slept until 6.30am with a few little cries last night so we are a more relaxed house today. Glad you had a better night too CSWS.

MM- my cousin's ds had a bad virus a few months ago and came out in blistery spots. They weren't cp either just part of the virus apparently.

Star- what a lovely gift. I once got £50 of next vouchers from a group of mum's which was brilliant . I like the homemade presents too. Once I was made a felt butterfly by one little boy, it's kind of hanging together for dear life but it's a much cherished pressie.

Went to work yesterday with ds to watch the yr6 leavers performance. They were my first class I'd ever taught so I'll always remember them. They were so demanding and bickered all the time but at the same time you just had to love them. Of course there was a sad song at the end of their performance about moving on, growing up etc. They all started crying, well the girls, and couldn't sing it so I had a little cry too as did most of the staff. They are like my original babies, although they hated it when I used to say that as they are "way too grown up" to be anyones babies

aubergenie · 10/07/2009 12:30

That's a great pressie Star. We tend to get given all kind of randem things at the end of term. One of my colleagues was given a mug with "Mum" written on it.

Sorry to hear about poorly babies.

MM- Yes. Dp is a SAHD Mon - Wed at the moment. He's doing bits and pieces of freelance work on Thursdays and Fridays. We've got a childminder booked for January by which time, hopefully, he may have found a job.

He's really enjoying it, but found it exhausting and has a new appreciation of all I've been doing for the last 9 months, which is sweet.

Marthasmama · 10/07/2009 13:07

Aubergenie - That would be DH's dream work pattern. He would love for me to go to work and earn loads so he could stay home with the dc. Alas, I doubt I'll ever earn megabucks and anyway, I'm quite enjoying being at home with M. DH will get his baptism of fire as of Tuesday. Eeeek, only a few more days.

Rachie - The HV at the clinic today was amazed at M's rash. She thought it looked like chicken pox too but said it looked like a nastier rash. It's not been itchy so that's a relief, but poor M has not been well.

CSWS - So.....any teeth yet? Still no sign here!

M is still a giant. The HV thinks that part of the reason she crawls in such a weird kamikaze way is because her legs are so long! I asked her about M's legs and she thought they looked fine, they are both the same length anyway!

KSal · 10/07/2009 13:08

CSWS don't want to sound like a mad stalker, but i just saw you at sainsburys, you were just about to go in!!

If you noticed a stranger smiling at you and looking as though she was going to say something then thinking better of it, then that was me!

and i got to see little D, what a cutie! I didnt have Emma with me.

CantSleepWontSleep · 10/07/2009 14:42

I wish I had noticed you KSal, but sadly not! Did you see dd too? She was with us, but arrived in another car with her friend (we'd only come from the swimming pool 2 mins away). Dh wants to know if you saw my good looking dh too. Feel free to say no, but you saw my ugly one .

OP posts:
KSal · 10/07/2009 15:18

how funny! it was definitely you then... i didn't see your dd until i turned and looked back and saw that she was holding your friends hand... also only saw your DH from behind. So you can tell him i am very sad to have missed out

i wish i had said something now!

Marthasmama · 10/07/2009 15:23

It's hard to know what to say though isn't it KSal? I sat next to another MNer at the hairdressers once. I had been chatting to her on here as she was local to me and looked at her profile pictures. So in the hairdressers, I just kept looking at her thinking 'it is definitely her' but I only knew her MN name so wussed out of saying anything! We have been out for coffee and cake four times now!

aubergenie · 10/07/2009 20:56

MM is it Tuesday you go into hospital?

KSal that's funny. I sold something on Ebay to a MNetter - I knew it was her because her email address is her MN name. I wanted to say something but didn't know what to say.

I'm going to a wedding tomorrow but am annoyed that the Monsoon sale hasn't started so I'm going to have to cobble something together out of the wardrobe and hope it starts before dp's brother's wedding in a couple of weeks.

I'm coming down with a horrible cold. Again. Watching the Masterchef final, then off to bed. Dp says that Jayne Middlemiss looks like she's teething.

CantSleepWontSleep · 10/07/2009 21:07

Don't say who wins yet aubergenie - will be watching in a short while! Enjoy the wedding - am sure you'll look lovely.

The friend I was with is an MNer too actually KSal, although she doesn't post a lot (TattyCatty).

OP posts:
Marthasmama · 10/07/2009 21:11

It is indeed Aubergenie. Pesky Monsoon! I think their sale starts next Thursday as the Accessorize sale started yesterday and the Monsoon sale is usually a week after.

I am really dreading the aftermath of my time in hospital. M has been sooooooo clingy and won't leave me alone. I have to sit on the floor with her or she cries, I have to sit right next to her or she cries, if she wanders off she cries and wants me to pick her up. If she has been playing for a little while on the floor, she has to occasionally climb on to my lap for a cuddle. Luckily she seems to like being with DH too so maybe it won't be too bad.

Marthasmama · 10/07/2009 21:13

Oh and the nursery where DS goes to after school club has had a confirmed case of swine flu! Eeeeek!

CantSleepWontSleep · 10/07/2009 21:14

I'm sure it will be better than you're expecting mm. She's never had any time away from you before, so after the time you spend in hospital you may find that she's got used to it.
I do understand though. Am sure that ds will miss dh terribly too when he goes back to work.

OP posts:
star6 · 10/07/2009 21:21

Right. DH out at a leaving drinks thing so I'm doing the crying game tonight. Im sticking to it. Poor Q. I'm almost certain he's screaming "pick me up you b" right now.

star6 · 10/07/2009 21:36

Took one hour. I went back in every 5-8 minutes and laid him back down (he either sits up or stands up in cot and cries). I don't pick him up anymore because I think that was causing too much disruption. He'd snuggle in and think he was going to get to sleep like that and then I'd put him back in. I felt a bit about that. So now I'm just laying him back down with a kiss and I say "goodnight Quinlan, I love you" and stroke his hair or cheek a bit, then leave.
The last time I laid him down, said good night...etc. I put him on his side and kept my hands on him for a minute. He drifted right off (probably exhausted by this point). He was screaming the house down.
Experts - does that seem ok? Is it ok that I'm not picking him up or is that logic quite flawed? I can't think straight tbh so just need some honest opinion.

Good thing DH was out. I told DH to find something to do for the next 3 nights and perhaps 4 at bedtime for an hour and a half so he can totally learn to self settle.

CantSleepWontSleep · 10/07/2009 21:54

sounds like you did great star.

OP posts:
star6 · 10/07/2009 22:01

Thanks csws
Next problem - When he does wake, should I be letting him cry and go reassure, cry reassure again or should I just feed him then? I usually just take him out of hte cot, feed him in bed laying down and we end up both falling back to sleep in bed (not in cot). Or should I feed him and make myself stay awake and put him back in the cot after?
