Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

hi phoenix just had a read of your post it does sound to me like reflux as Bill has all the same 'symptoms' you describe including being sick just before his next fee wanting th dummy but not always keeping it in. definately take him to your gp. Bill was given domperidone which i think has worked wonders for him as i have to admit he was a very misearble baby before he was started on it last week, now he's not quite so grumpy!

Phoenix · 25/09/2009 20:46

Thanks Lydia

JetLi · 25/09/2009 20:49

Sounds like my nephew Phoenix - they had a shite time with reflux. I'm sure little sis said there's something peculiar that can happen with baby boys where the stomach valve isn't properly closed at first and this can be a cause. She saw the Dr. and did the usual stuff (propping up the head of the cot, keeping him upright after feeds etc.). Her GP was reluctant to do much as the investigations are not very nice (cameras down throat and stuff) and they eventually grow out of it. Was horrible though.

Patchybob · 25/09/2009 20:51

Phoenix sounds like reflux to me. Max has it and they have prescribed him Gaviscon. It is great and has made a huge difference to him. Have to you tried raising the head of his cot slightly. That helps too as it helps keep the milk down and also keeping him upright for a while after the feed helps. Speak to your GP. they don't seem to hesitate to prescribe Gaviscon and it has made a massive difference to Max.

Periods not here yet, am really enjoying not having them as mine are really heavy and I always end up anaemic. Am on ferrous sulphate most of the time. Have tried the coil and it didn't agree with me, but helped reduce the periods.

Sleep New routine going well, but it is early days. Bless him he passes out at 7pm, now I don't know how I managed to get him to stay up till 8pm!!

NCT sale tomorrow...looking forward to some bargins!! Weird to think that last time I went in the spring I didn't have him and didn't know if he was a boy or girl!

Manky neck a little wipe of sudocream works well, water proof so all the milk and dribble can't stick!

Have a good weekend everyone xx

Patchybob · 25/09/2009 20:53

Oops, cross posts with you Jetli, saying the same things about cots and keeping upright! xx

Phoenix · 25/09/2009 21:01

Thanks everyone. Yes Patchy i've heard of propping the cot or mattress up and am going to give it a try but he's hardly spending anytime in it at the mo. My friend has seen him today and straight away she said she thought he had reflux and the more i was telling her things he does the more she was convincing me. I feel a bit crap about not getting him to the doctors before 11wks though

lydiathetattooedlady · 25/09/2009 21:50

dont feel crap phoenix i only took bill last week when he was nearly 11 weeks!

LargeGlassofRed · 26/09/2009 18:08

help Stan has reflux too, was given some gaviscon on friday but so sleep deprived can't work out how to give it when out and about? any tips?

Patchybob · 27/09/2009 09:47

LGOR are you breast or bottle feeding? Can't remember. I find the best way to do it is to mix it with a bottle as I tried to give it to him after a feed like it says (in a syringe) and he wasn't hungry and wouldn't take it. Now I give it to him in a bottle of ebm at lunch time and his bottle of formula in the evening. It really does work but seems to take a few days. Hope that helps both you and Stan xxx

Phoenix don't feel crap, its easy to miss and Max only got sorted out recently xxx

LargeGlassofRed · 27/09/2009 15:25

thanks patchbob. he's breast fed with a bottle of ebm or formula at night.
The instructions say make it up and use straight away the only way I can think of doing it is taking water and a syringe out with me and somehow mix it up.
Poor Stans still got colic and is now teething

Feeling guilty as Freddie doesn''t get half as much attention apart from in the night, as Stan sleeps better and Freddie still feeding every 2 to 3 hours.

Anyone else constantly covered in sick?

Patchybob · 27/09/2009 20:21

LGOR how many times a day does he have to have it. Max is twice a day and therefore mixing it into the bottle of milk works well. Definatly put it in Stan's bottle at night to start with. The only thing about doing it with a syringe (which is what I tried at first) is they say to do it after the feed and I found that Max was too full to take anything else and then retched like mad and puked it all up. Nightmare!

That said I am still covered in sick, I have totally gone off macaroni cheese as I think thats what Max and I both smell of all the time!!!

QueenFee · 27/09/2009 20:50

necks ye we have serious rolls of fat round the neck and finding lovely cheesy bits - yuck. Feel like i'm a bad mother for not bathcing him enough (although its a stuggle in the bath to get into Alfies creases!) May try sudecream...
sick Alfies is just starting to settle down whereas he would projectile vomit once a day I now haven't had it for about a week - touch wood!
gaviscon I was given it for Finlay and it did'nt help him. However he was an extreme case (to the point my HV still talks about it now 3 years later) I found i a nightmare as he wouldn't take a bottle to give it in so had to syringe it. Must admit I made it up before and just kept it.
lgor Don't worry too much about the attention thing. I realised how little attention Alfie getsthis weekend as I had my cousins to stay and he was cooing and talking to them etc - I hardly knew he could do that. DS1 is still very jealous and very demanding as a result so Alfie gets a little sidetracked because he so good. Felt quite guilty today about it i must admit but just keep reminding myself how much they benfit from a sibling! You have an excuse you have twins and siblings- I can't even use that as an excuse!

alibobble · 27/09/2009 20:52

reflux hope all you sufferers get it sorted soon. think it is the bonus of having a girl, they do seem less prone. that said haven't stopped propping dd2's cot after our last cold as she seems to sleep better with it on 2 encyclopaedia sized books under the feet.

colds we're all suffering round 2 of this stupid cold. just got rid of last one and along comes another. Sleep deprivation causing problems i think!

jabs dd had hers last friday and seems to be ok now. Not too much repercussions.

sleep Anyone with 2or more finding that other kids up in the night more? Got woken 2x by dd1 the other night and then by dd2! ARG!

LargeGlassofRed · 27/09/2009 21:26

Thanks patchybob and queenfee,
will try those tips and see if it helps on a plus side they have both been settled in bed by 9pm for the last three nights which is bliss, as actually have some evening childfree

xxhunnyxx · 27/09/2009 22:08

Gosh I've not been on here for ages...been too busy! lol.

Me n Joseph r doin really well, he's gettin huge now. I had him weighed last week and he was 15lb 9oz at 10+6 weeks! His weight gain seems to be easing off now tho.
This week he's just started reaching and grabbing his toys. He's soooo chatty and dead active, he never stops wriggleing and talking and singing!
I'm keeping really busy with him too, Mondays we go swimming, Tuesday mornings I do a Spanish class then in the afternoon baby massage, wed I do jobs etc, thurs morn we go to First Friends group, Thurs evenings I do a Criminology course, Friday mornings I do a salsa class then we go in the sensory room. Busy, busy, busy! I'd go insane if I didnt do lots tho.

Joseph's Dad hasn't seen him now for about 6 weeks. I'm not really too bothered tho, I'm less stressed now that he's out of the picture cos we were just fighting all the time. Now that it's just the 2 of us I can focus on him 100% and I'm I know I'm a better Mum now.

We're really very happy, he's soooo perfect and we're totally in love with each other, he's a proper mummy's boy, but not in a soft clingy way, he just looks at me with these mushy loved up eyes. I just wanna gobble him up!!! lol

necks Joseph has a cheesey neck too. I've been told not to use Sudocream tho cos it's caused by moisture so best to use talcum powder to dry it. I've started putting talcum powder on morning and night and it seems to be doin the trick...touch wood.

Joseph was in a really good routine, he's dead good at going to bed, he's asleep by 7pm every night n I can now just leave him in his cot talking to himself n he'll go to sleep by himself. He was sleepin from 7pm till 4-5am but this week he's started waking at about 1am again. I'm not sure if it's cos I've put him in his own room or cos he's teething or cos he's getting hungrier. I predict that it's cos he's now in his own room cos it started the 1st night I put him in there but I'm gonna persist n hopefully he'll stop waking so much.

Right well I'm off to do his bottles now.

babyblue3 · 28/09/2009 04:54

Been a while since I've been on here. Sooo busy! I am spending the little time I have to myself in the morning going to the gym or out for a run. Have 30lbs to lose and am determined to do it this time (since last time I didn't bother knowing I was just going to get FAT again!).

My 2 oldest DCs competed in their first Triathalon this weekend. I couldn't stop crying as they came across the finish line... lol... too bad if I embarrassed them!!

reflux not sure if Marco has a problem or not. He spits up after pretty much each meal, but its not projectile vomit. How do you know if its reflux or just normal spit up??

period haven't gotten mine yet, and I cant say I miss it. With last baby, didn't get it til 10 months PP. Marco is mostly BF with an occasional bottle of formula when the BBs aren't enough. Not taking any birth control right now as I am hoping DH will go for the snip. Until then... he has to use the condoms!

Marco goes for his jabs on Thursday... not looking forward to that at all.

sleep aside from the first week after baby was born, the older DCs aren't disturbed by the baby. He has gotten much better (colic is now gone), so he doesn't scream bloody murder at night after his feeds. Now he goes right back to sleep. He was going through the night last week, but has been waking at around 5am for the past couple of nights. Either way, I am getting a lot more sleep than I was 2 weeks ago!

hi everyone, hunny nice to hear from you! im glad ds is being a good boy and that you're keeping busy! im doing the same am meeting ladies from my aquanatal group, who have become good friends with, later for a walk round the park!
sleep tried to move bill to cot as he is too big for moses basket. well it went down like a sack of sh**e! he wouldnt settle and i only got to sleep 2.30-4! aarghh! he's also not fed properly since 6.30 last night. the poor bugger is hungry and stuiffing his fists in his mouth but wont latch on! eneded up giving him 2oz in a bottle at 8.30am which i feel crap for now! he also WILL NOT SLEEP!!!!! not even for a nap. he nods off in arms then wakes up if i try and put himn down.
siblings dd has been great with him up until last night when she bit him in the bath, i have this morning caught her giving him a slap on his little bald head. think she's atarting to feel a little jealous. she always asks for a cuddle when im feeding or trying to get him to sleep and have to tell her 'later/when im finished' which upsets her obviously!
babyblue i attempted to take dd to dance classes (which she hated!) and cried then!
anyway im off to stare in to space with a screaming baby and a toddler who wants fish fingers and ice cream!

Phoenix · 28/09/2009 10:53

Lydia - Noah is the same. I can't put him down when he's asleep. He's having a nap on me now but i know if i attempt to put him down he'll be awake. Last night he slept on me from 6pm until 10pm. I didn't think he'd sleep for long so kept telling myself if i put him down now he will wake up but he didn't and he didn't even wake up for his feed at 8.30pm. I did alsorts (took ds1 to bed, made bottles, made a sandwich and drink) while i was carrying him around but he just stirred a little and went straight back to sleep.

I've got him into the doctors at 4.40pm today i'll report back later .

rubyriley · 28/09/2009 15:18

Hi all,

Sorry been off for such a long time; did follow thread for a while after James' birth but then didn't check MN which then meant way, way behind. And thought of reading hours of posts, when drowning in ironing offputting!!

Anyway, hope everyone's ok. Funny how our babies all have similar issues Phoenix James similar to Noah in that if he's asleep I don't always want to put him down, as know he's likely to stir/wake up. Then feel guilty if carry on holding him as feel very lazy! Talk about a no win situation!!

James' last feed is at around 8-9; he had been waking at 2-ish then going through until 5.30 - 7a.m. But last night missed his 2a.m. feed. Know that it's likely to reappear though but am so not bothered as at the end of the day, at least he's healthy & happy.

Lydia You've totally put me off transferring James into a cot!! He too is big for his moses basket and I am enjoying my many hours of sleep at the moment

I had a scary time as found a lump in my breast whilst on holiday in Ireland during the school Summer hols. Worried sick, imagining leaving children without a mother (it DOES happen doesn't it?) and saw my GP as soon as got back. She agreed but said probably a hormonal cyst and to leave it until 2 weeks after my 2nd period, checking it in meantime every other day, then to go back to her and she would do an urgent referral if still there. Well that was about 3 weeks ago, & since then I have had my period and the lump has thankfully shrunken away (almost) Now it's hard to find and is like a tiny bubble. Sometimes these things have to happen to make you realise how lucky you are not just to have your baby, but to have your own health. Will see my GP anyway to show her after my next period, by which time it may have gone completely. Thank the Lord

I count myself very lucky to have him in my life and still think about Woollyjo and the loss of her daughter Niamh. So I treasure James every day, don't take him for granted at all, he can wake up at night as often as he wants to and I'm always checking him to make sure he's breathing. This is Niamh's legacy to me. She touched us all and I truly hope that Woollyjo again experiences the joy that a new baby brings. Sending you love and some sunshine poking through your dark clouds Woollyjo. May your clouds be replaced by blue skies in the years to come.

alibobble · 28/09/2009 16:13

cots put dd in her cot at 5 weeks as she wouldn't sleep in moses basket. has slept much better since so it's all swings and roundabouts.

lydiathetattooedlady · 28/09/2009 16:29

im a bit worried about Bill think he might actually be ill, have posted else where but thought id cut and paste it here see if anyone can help!
last night had really bad night with ds, wouldnt settle until 2.30 (usually goes down between7&8) slept til 4 that was it. put it down to me trying to put him in to a cot as he's out grown his moses basket. anyway he didnt feed well at all through the night crying at the breast, this morning out of desperation i gave him a bottle of which he took 2oz (i was desperate for him to get something!)he has screamed blue murder until eventually (on mums advice) gave him 1ml of calpol at 12.30. this was also when he had his last feed, once he'd calmed down and was sleepy i whipped his dummy out and gave him the boob. he's not fed since, it might not sound that unusual but since he was born he has fed every 1 1/2 hours day and night. he has been asleep since 12.30, apart from a quick cry at 3 when i tried to offer him the boob and he screamed and went to sleep again.
what should i do?? anything/nothing?? i dont want him to starve!

rubyriley · 28/09/2009 16:55

Lydia I should pop him into your Drs just to be on the safe side. More than likely he's just feeling under the weather for whatever reason (maybe coming down with a cold/even teething?) You can usually get an appointment as priority is given to young babies, and it will set your mind at rest. I think that if you're concerned he's not quite right, then he probably isn't, so trust your instinct and get him checked.

Let us know how you get on?

My son James had a feed today at 11.30am then slept so next feed not until 3.10 and this isn't unusual for him (though also can be usual for him to just cat nap throughout the day!)So, it may be that Bill is just changing his routine, but you know your child best, so pop him into your Drs is what I'd do just for peace of mind. Sure he's fine though! xxx

Phoenix · 28/09/2009 20:58

The GP gave me some Gaviscon for Noah. I gave him a bottle with some in at 7pm and he screamed like mad after it. He sounded in so much pain . My friend said that happened with her dd for the first few times and to keep up with it for a few days to see if it makes a difference to him. Did any other LO's on gaviscon do that?

Did you get Bill to the doctors Lydia? How is he now?

QueenFee · 28/09/2009 21:00

lydia alfie has been really unsettled at night at the breast but it's because he can't breathe because he has a cold so maybe he is a wee bit poorly. They don't usually worry about lack of feeds unless they show signs of dehydration (dry eyes mouth, no wet nappies etc) Do get him checked though and put your mind at rest

cots oh dear Alfie-bach is also far too big now for his crib. He keeps getting his hand stuckin the bars when he is trying to get his thumb in. I don't want him to go in with DD yet in his cot so I think I will have to use a travel cot. pheonix was it you that used the travel cot - have you got an extra mattress - recommendations please everyone as the travel cot by itself is not very comfy.

rubyriley I had a lump under my arm once and I have never felt so scared!
eveningfeed Alfies last feed at 7/8 lasts at least an hour - anyone else finding this - it's driving me crazy!

waking ds wakes when Alfie wakes but DS doesn't.

puttingdown I can't put alfie down to sleep in hte day if he falls asleep in my arms but then he only catnaps for a half hour here and there anyway and tends to sleep in the pram on hte school run 3 times a day! He goes down fine at night but may be because he sleeps on his tummy and I usually put him down on the warm muslin I have had him on so no cold sheets IYSWIM.
