cab? Weezle? claudi2? northstar? Anybody out there? Actually, you're all probably as knackered as I am! This is my first opportunity to come online in a couple of days - I must have the world's hungriest baby (especially at night!)

Hi, and congratulations again! Yes I'm here now. My computer was messed up by the babysitter the day after dd was born and I havent been able to log in - AAAAAAAAAAGH!
Just when i really wanted to talk to you all. Isn't life GREAT! I am really enjoying dd, she has fitted in really well, and because my mum is over for two weeks we are all being totally spoiled and looked after. Right now dd is asleep beside me and ds is on the beach with his grandma, although dp went to work for a few hours when we realised there was no chance of a lie in this morning .
dd is b/f'ing really well, about 10-15 mins at a time every 4 hours or so (I'm demand feeding but seemingly she has read the books and is happy to do the 4 hourly thing).
Can't wait til we're all over here, I am so happy that dd is here and I'm not still waiting. Spoke to a neighbour the other day who is a week overdue, she told me her stretch marks appeared the day after her due date, she is so upset.
I didnt get any, but have a few stitches from a small tear that i would swap for a few stretch marks right now!!!
Hurry up everyone and join us.

hi northstar. sounds like everything is great. 10 - 15 minutes each feed sounds like a dream - ds2 is a right glutton! I am feeling smug, though. He finished his last feed at 10:15 last night and we all went straight to bed. Then didn't wake up again until 5! That's a full night's sleep in my book. Then he slept again from 6 til 8:30, and so did ds1 - so we had a very long lie-in. And because of all that my boobs were so full that I've expressed off 1 1/2 oz, which dp will be able to give soon. I can't wait for them to feed together - I do think it's a downside of breastfeeding (for me aswell as dp).

Have you had baby blues? I had one monster sesh, but otherwise everything's great!

Come on everyone else!

hi Fisil, seems like dd is feeding at very similar times, we are getting LOADS of sleep at the moment. She was jaundiced which made her sleepier than normal, but is getting over that now and woke for a feed at 5 when it got light, and then another one at 7 when dp got up for work, then slept til now.
How are you expressing? I find it really difficult - the health visitor suggested i try by hand but couldnt do that at all - and hate the hand pump that i have as well. Any tips for me?
No baby blues whatsoever yet, just felt a bit emotional on day 3, but managed not to cry. I wouldnt have minded a good cry but was having visitors and didnt want red eyes iykwim.
I was advised to watch out for week 3 or 4 when all the fuss settles down and reality sets in. Apparently that can be a danger time for us, so have warned dp to be extra nice to me LOL. Actually he is being really good, we are getting on much better than i expected with a toddler and a new baby and my mum over!
Are you feeling much better than you were? You sound really well.

fisil · 16/05/2005 20:26

The bottle feed went really well. Ds2 lapped it up in seconds and I then had to provide another long feed. So we know he can take it from a bottle (and I didn't let dp warm it up from the fridge, cos ds1 got really picky about milk temperature, and I'm not starting that one again!). But the best thing is that dp has been great to me every feed since, checking I have everything I need. I think he realised that it's not just sitting quietly on your bum, but can be quite isolating!

Just going to check our dueMay05 thread - where is everyone?

logic · 18/05/2005 17:15

Hello! I've had 2 days of non-stop visitors and it's been very tiring. Luckily my PILs have been round looking after ds and doing my housework. I felt really good yesterday, even went shopping! Had no choice really, dd's newborn clothes are all too small because she is such a big girl. Gave me an excuse to buy lots of pink stuff anyway.

She is feeding very irregularly and sleeping all day and stays awake all night so we are all shattered. Better go, someone wants feeding again!

claudi2 · 19/05/2005 10:34

Hi, I am amongst the living again ... well sort of. DD fed at 1am, 3 am, 6 am 8 am ...she must be going through a growth spurt (after weeks )??? 'cause so far we have been able to sleep for 4 hours at night without any probs ...never mind ... was it Miranda2 who said in her birth announcement that she had managed to get her DS onto a Gina routine, I am amazed ...anyway buba is sleeping which is my cue to have a shower

cab · 19/05/2005 12:16

Hi guys - just discovered this thread - will pop in later. Off for a physio appointment to sort out my wrecked tummy muscles and back.
Hugs and kisses to all the babies. Claudi can't believe that Clara and Suzannah appeared so close together!

logic · 20/05/2005 16:35

Did anyone else have lots of stitches? Sorry to moan, but I haven't been able to sit down for a week, they hurt so much. Got some femepad ice pack things today and they seem to help.

I am so pleased that the bfeeding is working so much better than my experience with ds. Giving a bottle feed at night though which she seems to be accepting.

claudi2 · 22/05/2005 09:31

Hi everyone, hope everybody is well and that the bfeeding is going well for those who can. Logic, I give a bottle once in a while when it seems like milk is low, and it seems to work. Northstar, I find expressing hard too, but at the health centre they have some electrical pumps(Ameda), which seem to work for me ... I know you can hire them, maybe from your local bfgroup ...at the beginning I dont think one can express very much, but apparently it gets easier
About stitches, I had 6 on the side ... took lots of arnica,3x a day, and put some mother tinctureof hypericum on them and within 5 days they seemed to have gone ... but I think it depends where you have them ... I remember for dd1 I was in agony, and sat on a swimring for the first 10 days ... it helps to have a few swimrings as under the weight they seem to develop leaks very quickly
Hope everyone had a reasonable night...
Cab, we'll have to get together when we feel up to it

hollya · 22/05/2005 18:43

can i join your thread please?!
baby alice arrived safe and well yesterday evening
oh my god don't stitches hurt!

logic · 22/05/2005 21:30

Congrats hollya!
Oh my god, yes the stitches hurt. I am still in agony 6 days later. Probably shouldn't mention that.

I have discovered Lansinoh cream which is fantastic for stopping the pain of breastfeeding. Really recommend it.

northstar · 23/05/2005 17:47

My stitches are from a tear, and they are still here two and a half weeks later and yes, they do hurt - especially doing no. 2's
It's great to see this thread slowly getting going, although it's pretty hard to find the time right now, between gazing at new babies, giving older ds/dd's plenty of attention, and keeping the house in some kind of order so that visitors dont think you've totally lost it!
I have good intentions of getting onto mn at least once a day.

northstar · 23/05/2005 18:12

B/f'ing going well, but I keep losing or forgetting the pads, and leaking, especially when out shopping. I had a jacket on that was too small for me to actually button up, but had to try and pull it closed to large wet patches on each sideand push a pram at the same time.
Oh the joys of motherhood.

fashill · 23/05/2005 19:16

Just added this to my watch list as hopefully I'll be here very soon!!

fisil · 23/05/2005 19:31

Tell me about the leaking! Am now only wearing dark T-shirts, and always carrying a spare! Breastfeeding is so much better this time - already broken my record! But I have thrush in my nipples - hopefully will be gone soon! I'm being paged for another feed ...

claudi2 · 24/05/2005 10:14

How are everybodies hormones holding out? I was very weepy yesterday ...dont know wether it is lack of sleep or hormones
Is anybody elses baby cranky in the early evening ...I remember this from my other dds but it was so long ago ....

fisil · 24/05/2005 11:27

I had one weepy session. Lasted about 2 hours and I thought the world had ended. Otherwise not. Ds2 is cranky in the morning at the moment (feed, feed, feed). He was in the evening, but has settled down now - just as well because we have introduced the evening routine, moved him to his own bedroom and implemented the 7 o'clock rule (he doesn't leave his bedroom between 7pm and 7am - worked for ds1, who has always been a great sleeper, so worth another try!)

OP posts:
logic · 24/05/2005 12:02

I was really grumpy and weepy yesterday morning and the previous night but it was probably from lack of sleep. Luckily, she slept through last night from 8:30pm to 8am only waking every 4 hours for a quick feed and change! We got a whole night's sleep! Long may it last.

Dd got Sticky Eye on Sunday which was a real pain, had to keep wiping it clean. Seems to have cleared up now. I got the 'must have been caused by the waterbirth' comment from MIL who was really dubious about it. She has been great though, helping me a lot.

claudi2 · 24/05/2005 13:05

Good to know I'm not the only one ....might try the 7o'clock routine as dd makes so many noises at night I'm finding it hard to sleep ...someone is calling must go

Maddison · 24/05/2005 13:35

Hi everyone!! I forgot how much time newborns take up, I hardly get the chance to wash my hair let alone come on MN - not that I'm complaining though, I did enough of that when I was pg in the latter weeks. I know this will sound really weird but I actually MISS being pg even though at the time I felt like a whale

Well Bailey is doing really well, a week old and instead of losing any weight he has gained 3 ounces, although he does have a sore on the inside of his wrist which we are going to the docs about later today. The breastfeeding is going great, I was a bit worried about it because I tried and failed with DS1 but I'm so happy that it's working this time.

I can't believe how much sleep some of you are getting - I was almost celebrating the other day for having 3 1/2 hours of unbroken sleep though he does seem to feed loads more at night.

fisil · 24/05/2005 13:36

logic - does dd have red eyes too? ds1 gave ds2 conjunctivitis within the first couple of days. We got them both eye drops and it seems to have gone now!

OP posts:
logic · 24/05/2005 20:25

Fisil, her eye doesn't seem to be red, just a tiny bit weepy still. Definately getting better though. If it doesn't disappear within the next couple of days, I will take her to see the GP.

claudi2 · 25/05/2005 08:49

Morning everyone, hope the night was reasonable ...mine was 2am and 6am, so for me that is reasonable ... the 7pm in her own room didnt work out though, 'cause she slept quite a lot in the afternoon, and therefor had her eyes wide open at 7 ...I'll keep on trying ...
