booge, my dd's skin is all flaky too. I've tried oil gel and only washing her in water but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

I'm worried about how hot it is at night for her. Last night, we only dressed her in a nappy because it was 29 degrees in our room. What is everyone else doing about the heat?

claudi2 · 28/05/2005 17:34

Heat???? Well here in Scotland its been raining all day and it must be 11 C .... DD has managed to stick to Gina today so far any way but has slept more than prescribed .... wonder what this evening has in store

fisil · 28/05/2005 17:39

hi weezle! We took 2 attempts to get the passport photos done - lots of prodding both times. And then he looks exactly the same as ds1 in the photos!

Hi everybody, welcome Booge - your DS1 and my DS2 were born on the same day .

Well the rash on DS2s wrist was apparently impetigo, which they say he has probably got from his cord!? He has the vilest tasting medicine you could imagine and obviously its a struggle to get him to take it but its finally clearing up now.

I have the same problem with the leaking boobs - quite embarrasing when walking round the shops on a Saturday afternoon but hey I'm sure all mums appreciate the fact that its one of those things.

Oh and I have managed to get back into my old pre-pregnant jeans at the beginning of this week Obviously I hadn't put on as much weight as I thought, although there is a baggy bit of flesh at the top for me to work on, so I haven't got away scot free

booge · 29/05/2005 17:56

Thanks for making me so welcome!

logic, DS just saw our midwife in the supermarket and she suggested using almond oil after his bath. She thinks that his dry skin is from bathing even though we are only using water due to the chlorine and other chemicals in it and that it would get better when his skin got used to it. I will try and get some tomorrow and see if it helps, I don't want to cut down the evening baths if poss as he enjoys them so much and it's one of the only active things we do together.

Had a bad night last night due to DS being constipated, apparently it may be because I cut down on my fruit consumption after being advised eating too much might give him diarrhea...so much conflicting advice, isn't it a minefield!!

logic · 29/05/2005 21:25

Thanks for the bathing tip, booge! I will have to try it. I've generally found that everyone has a child-rearing opinion . I always smile and say 'Maybe you are right...' then do whatever I am comfortable with.

I am v. cross today. A major power cut last night killed my PC stone dead. Arrggghh. Had to set up a login on dh's PC instead so I may not be able to post as often as I'd like this week.

welshmum · 30/05/2005 09:26

Hello - would like to join you ladies if that's ok.
My little bundle of fun was born on May 24th, a boy (have a dd of 3 already) of 8lb 13oz.

fisil · 30/05/2005 12:03

Hi Welshmum. How was the birth?

OP posts:
welshmum · 30/05/2005 12:18

It was an elective c-section - baby was in a very difficult postion, breech with its head stuck under my diaphragm, as it was they used forceps to get him out and it was quite a difficult few minutes - but all's well now and I feel fine. New baby is of course beyond lovely and I'm completely smitten.
I agree with you on the breastfeeding front fisil - the more advice you get, the more you know, the more likely you are to do it. I went to a bf workshop day and found it all really useful.

claudi2 · 31/05/2005 11:35

Welcome Welshmum, and what is your little bundle of fun called??

Maddison · 31/05/2005 11:59

Hi everyone and welcome to Welshmum!

Well Bailey is fast asleep at the mo and looking every bit like an angel!! He got weighed last week at a week old and instead of losing weight he gained 3oz!! He is due his second dose of vit k today so I'm taking hin to the baby clinic this afternoon and see if they will help me, after the nightmare it was to give him antibiotics I don't want to risk him dribbling all this out of his mouth aswell. I'll get him weighed while we're there, just out of curiosity as DS1 was exactly the same.

Hope you and your little ones are all well.

uwila · 01/06/2005 07:30

Just popping in to say "hello". Hope everyone is well. My big ambition of the day is to get everyone fed and dressed and leave the house while it is still morning... Wish me luck.

tab · 01/06/2005 10:54

Morning girls. I thought I would join this thread now and say hallo. Weve decided on " Joseph Henry" for our little ds2 with a view to calling him Joe most of the time. Little bundle is in dreamland. Just ge tting to grips with the breastfeeding. Id forgotten how time consuming it is when they just keep faling asleep at the breast.
He lost a few pounds in the first few days and went down from 10.14 to 10.6 which is fine but he really does guzzle the milk down and has started grabbing my boob already!!
Painful stitches!!! (say no more)
Anyway hope you're all fine. I havent gone out of the house yet.
How soon did you venture out. And have you walked anywhere, was it on your own? Im only on day 5 now and really want to go out but am afraid the stitches will be too painful. I need one of those mobile wheelchairs with a baby seat - wouldnt that be a good idea?!!!!

logic · 01/06/2005 12:29

Tab, I can barely sit down in the house, let alone on a wheelchair lol! I haven't been out for a walk yet either. Nice to know that someone else has a hungry baby too. Dd wants feeding constantly at the moment - about every 1 and a 1/2 hours. I feel like a (barely) mobile milk machine...

I am finding it tricky to deal with ds and dd on my own. If one is screaming for attention, then the other will shortly start up too . Tomorrow will be my first day alone in the house with them. I can see ds spending the day in his PJs and living off crisps . Wish me luck!

18mumtobe · 01/06/2005 13:54

hi girls and babies

just wanted to say hi and hope all is going well for you and your little ones.
well im still waiting for mine, and im 41 wks today. im booked in for induction on monday morning so at least the end is in sight even if he don't decide to come himself before then. which i don't think he will as still haven't had any signs.

well hope everyones happy and well. take care and hopefully ill be joining you all sooner rather than later.

booge · 01/06/2005 15:08

I didn't manage a walk until 5 days after the birth and it was to soon, I was like John Wayne by the end of a short trip round the block and struggled in the supermarket a couple of days later. My stiches are only now really begining to settle down now after 15 days, I've enjoyed a couple of long walks this week. I never imagined that they would be so painful before!

booge · 01/06/2005 15:10

Good luck with your induction 18mumtobe, I was induced and it was ok.

uwila · 01/06/2005 16:18

Well I had a fun day of shopping with my two -- NOT! I had this bright idea to venture out with MAclaren Techno (for new baby) and Litaf buggy board (the one with two steps so toddler can turn around and sit on it). Complete disaster it was. DD liked the seat at the back of the pram. But it was so awkward and hard to turn the pram, so I headed back to the car and explained to DD she would have to walk, to which she replied, "No walk." It was Hell, DD running one way, me yelling at her not to, and I'm sure people everywhere looking at this stupid horrible mother who expects her toddler to follow these absurd instructions. I had very much hoped to avoid the double buggy. But, it took about 10 minute for me to see the error of my ways. Now off to ebay for a double buggy

Missblossom · 01/06/2005 16:24

Afternoon all,

I went shopping 7 days after my section and then walked back from town on saterday (should take about 20 - 30 mins took me nearly an hour) this week done loads of walking feel alot better for it though.

Had the health visitor round this morning
she weighed Luca he has put on a wopping 1lb 3 1/2oz since birth, at birth he was 9lb 3oz he now weighs 10lb 6 1/2oz little bloater, still Im not surprised, I had to put him on the bottle as I had no milk, and he is taking about 5-6oz every 2-4 hours.

Hi everyone, just popping in quickly to say i feel so sorry for you lot with stitches - I didn't have any this time around, even after only being in the delivery room for 6 minutes until DS2 was born, but I had them the first time and can remember only to well how much they hurt - to me they were worse than the labour!

Gotta go - my boobs are being summoned

Brighteyes · 02/06/2005 06:45

Hi everyone.

I'm well impressed how often some of you are managing to post. Baby Cerys is now ten days old and this is my first chance to get on here. Its not that she's a difficult baby its just coping with all the blooming vistors plus dealing with the flu

Well its almost 7 o'clock and Cerys has been sleeping since 5 but I haven't managed to get back to sleep myself because I keep coughing myself awake. Well at least I've managed to catch up with everyones news. Can't believe how well you're all doing especially those with other kids.

Will try and log on more often, will be easier when dp returns to work on Tuesday (he is forever hogging the pc).

fisil · 02/06/2005 09:19

Anyone else got a baby that just loves people? ds just constantly wants to be cuddled. Last night was a bit of a nightmare! and now it's one hsnded typing time while he sits on my lap. If I put him down he frets. I feel like I'm spoiling him, but I suppose it's nice that he's so sociable, and until I have grandchildren it's my last chance to sit around all day cuddling a snuggly baby.

I have another job interview tomorrow. This is the job that I really really want - the others I have put on hold to wait for this one to be sorted, so I hope I get a decent night's sleep. I will be expressing this afternoon and my parents are coming to stay the night ready to look after ds2 in the morning. All this for one hour of interview. And I'll probably leek milk everywhere while trying to impress a future boss!

Hi all just a quick one now George is here...

Am I right to be feeding (breast) everytime my little man cries he does take the breast but I just wonder if we should also be trying to just calm him down?!? I guess this is demand feeding and will he settle into a pattern eventually?!?

fisil · 02/06/2005 10:45

fashill - I did what you are doing for a few days. Then I began to know him better and started realising there were other things that he needed/wanted to calm him down - in his case mostly cuddles! I was getting fed up with being on demand the whole time, and he often was only on for comfort. So I guess just listen to him, and if you're beginning to have doubts about whether you're on the right track that's because you are listening to him and realise it's time for a slight change. We are now in a bit more of a routine too.
