OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
pulapula · 23/06/2009 15:08

Belgian- I think the HVs organise a buggy walk here- I will try and remember to ask mine when I see her tomorrow. Sounds like good exercise.

Shame about the house. Is there no way DH will change his mind, or if you can get them to meet in the middle, or is it really stalemate? It's good that your FIL thinks you need a house that doesn't need any work too. Luckily DH and I seem to agree on houses and although we did look at some renovation projects last time with a view to making some money and moving up the property ladder, we ended up going for a house that was ready to move into (and our previous house was a new build and the one before that was only two years old).

Tummum · 23/06/2009 15:26

Monimo - well I was pretty boring and went for a shorter version of what I had before (a sort of short bob that's cut in at the back IYKWIM). It's pretty hard for all haircuts not to look the same when you have curly hair. But given the number of greys I am now spotting I have booked in for some highlights next month, so looking fwd to that.

Pula - really hope S is turning the corner and being more settled for you.

Febes - that pie sounds delish. Might try it tonight.

Choco - hope you are surviving the day... only a few hours til bedtime for Maddi

Belgian - LOL on stupid hens and poos !

llareggub · 23/06/2009 16:01

Tummum, are you me? I also have curly hair which has been various lengths but essentially the same cut. I'm jaw length now and have gone to being curly curly instead of straightening.

pulapula · 23/06/2009 16:04

Thanks tummum- he hasn't been sleeping as well today but at least when he is awake he is much happier, which is the main thing.

i read your aibu thread. i think as you later said you asked your nanny if she was interested in the extra work before offering it as an option to your friend then you might expect a thank you for putting more money her way but i guess like you said, you probably didnt word things as well as you could in your OP.

with the talk of au pairs and now nannies, i think it would be a good childcare option for us now that we have 3 dcs and often have to be on early trains to london/overnight stays with work, but i think i would find an au pair too intrusive and i've heard nannies can be very expensive as you have to pay employers NIC or something or other.

pulapula · 23/06/2009 17:02

I didn't think babies snored, but S is so loud i can't hear the telly! Yes, he's asleep on me again and th ehouse is a tip even though its just been me and S today!

Tummum · 23/06/2009 17:26

Llare sound like we have the same haircut LOL!

Pula You are dead right. I worded the post craply which sounded like I set up the Nanny into a position in which she couldn't say no and then expected her to thank me for it. But I can say (now I have swallowed my pride...) that I am being out of order in my expectations of her and getting the hump that an arrangement that I had suggested was going ahead, so it was probably a good think that I got flamed! (Also had a chat with her this morning to apologise and all is sorted - even though there wasn't really a problem in the 1st place!). I'm not even sure this para makes sense so I'm gonna shut up now!

As for Nannies - our Nanny was a Nursery Nurse at the place DD1&2 went to and we asked her if she was interested in working as a live-out Nanny for us. It worked out we paid her more than the Nursery did (and you have to pay employer tax and NIC on top of the salary) but it costs us less than 2 nursery places, so everyone won. It is difficult having someone in your house all day though... I need to be tidier for a start!

Reggiee · 23/06/2009 19:18

Has anyone had their jabs yet? Spangle? All I can say is that this little man is one unhappy bunny. Been crying solidly since the two needles went in at 2.10pm to falling asleep on me at 7pm......and relax......

Pula I'm due a smear. is it recommended to wait 6 months until after childbirth then?

Tummum · 23/06/2009 19:30

Reggiee - sounds horrible I am dreading them as G is due for his next week. Boo.

Jael · 23/06/2009 19:32

I wanted to ask a quick Q too...I know most of you are BF, but has anyone had their first period yet? J will be 8 weeks on Thursday, and I've had major period like pains since Saturday...just something else to add to all my problems, and I bet the doctor won't put me on any type of pill because of everything else I'm on either

Reggiee J is having his jabs on friday, I'm dreading them, am I right in saying with those first jabs you can give them a little calpol to helping them settle, if needs be? I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be around soon X

Belgianchocolates · 23/06/2009 19:46

jabs Don't worry about them. It tends to upset mums more than babies (except for Reggie's lo). Neither of my 2 were ever all that bothered about them. A little squeal at needle no2, as that seems to take them by a little more surprise than no1 and that was that. For BF babies I recommend boob straightaway and I bet the same would count for ff babies. Some food always makes things better for babies

reggie I was recommended to wait last time too (my smear was due during my 2nd pregnancy) as pregnancy can cause changes in your cervix and that takes a while to get back to normal after the birth of a baby.

jael Sounds about the right time for a first period. Hopefully it wont be too bad. Periods can sometimes become less painful once you've had a baby.

pula No DH wont change his mind. He went as high as he wants to and they went as low as they could (which is £45,000 below the asking price anyway, so I can see their point). DH and I should have a good talk about it really, as I think he could have gone up a bit more, but he's always working until very late on the house lately or away at work and so tends to be very tired. I don't think we've had a proper talk about anything since C has been born. He also has barely spent any time with C, unlike when the other 2 were newborns. If I do mention him working too much, then he always answers that it's to be able to move and that makes me feel guilty about mentioning it in the first place.

Reggiee · 23/06/2009 20:22

He's still sleeping....phew..
For those with jabs to come, dd was an absolute dream after her jabs. She slept and slept and slept. There were two nurses for ds's jabs and they did his at the same time - did you all hear the screams - poor love. We gave his some calpol this evening (it's fine if over 2 months old).

Jael I reckon my period is not far away. With dd, I stopped bf at 13 weeks and started at 16. I only bf for 2 weeks with ds, and think I may have ovulated last week (still checking cervical mucus obviously!).

Belgian thanks for the advice re smear. Must remember not to put it off too long.

Does anyone's lo's sleep in their own room? B is starting to outgrow his basket and am thinking of moving him to his cot at the weekend.

ladyhelen2 · 23/06/2009 20:40

6 week check here today too. R given the once over and passed. My check was are you ok and what contraceptive are you thinking about??? Anyway, I am going to give persona a try - anyone else ever used it? I know its not as reliable as the pill/coil/etc but as we kind of are planning a third, and am approaching 38, figure thats a risk I'm prepared to take.
Dr did say no rush to me on the smear too as I was due one whilst pg. SO will leave it another few months I think.

DH and DS back from camping. DH has managed to lose DS's cuddly toy giraffe that he sleeps with every night. So far DS is being ok about it, but am not sure it will last. Bloody men.No idea have they? It would have been the first thing I'd have packed up to come home to make sure we had it.

SesHasFinallyBecomeAMum · 23/06/2009 21:21

6 week check all ok here too but going back tomorrow as DS's belly button has a granuloma. Anyone else experience of this? Dr said they just use a silver nitrate pencil to burn it off.

ladyhelen - hope the lost giraffe doesn't cause too much of a problem.

flippineck · 23/06/2009 21:46

Evening all!

Well, we've survived another day. DD1 is definitely dropping her day time nap now, I could really have done with a bit of peace this afternoon but on the plus side she's now going to bed with much less arguing and distraction. A hasn't slept on her own really today, she's been in the pushchair or the sling, and she's now asleep on DH.

We've got the 6 week check tomorrow. The Dr I'm seeing is very enthusiastic about breastfeeding, she really up set one of my friends who had stopped BF by the time of her check a few months ago by giving her a huge lecture about it and going on about how disappointed she (GP) was. Not good at all. Sure the check will be uneventful.

llareggub · 23/06/2009 22:19

I didn't get a period for months last time, and my mother didn't have a period between having me and my brother, and we were born 4 years apart!

had my six week check last weekend. my smear isn't due until dec so i should be ok. and already meantioned Harper needs to get checked for hip dysplasia but some of you have posted that your LOs were checked but given all clear so am not too worried.

ses, never heard of a gunuloma - hope he's ok.

DH getting the snip tomorrow so he's a bit nervous tonight. bless. does make me want to cross my legs and i'm not even a man .

hope all are well tonight.

pulapula · 23/06/2009 22:29

Dandy- my DS seems to prefer to look at the wall behind me rather than focus on my face. But he does occassionally look at me properly i think. And I have had one smile (he's 6 weeks today).

Here DS2 gets his check at 8 weeks when he has his jabs. I found the 2 months jabs just made DD and DS1 sleep and i don't think DS1 even noticed them- he might have flinched but that was it. But he did react to the 3 month ones by crying a lot, but was fine again at 4 months.

Blottedcopybook · 23/06/2009 22:31

Awww hope hubby is okay tomorrow Momino - have you got frozen peas in the freezer?

Momino - Best wishes for your DH tomorrow, but I'm sure he will be fine. My DH is prepared to have the snip in a couple of years, once we have finally ruled out having more DCs. I have always said I will draw the line when I get to 40 (as in give birth by 40), which is 2.5 years away.

Belgianchocolates · 23/06/2009 23:05

dandy All three of dcs spent hours studying the wall/ceiling/lights/sofa etc... at this age. It sounds pretty normal to me I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that baby boys are more interested in things rather than faces, so it could be a sex difference. C does both at the moment, i.e. spends some time studying my face and making eye contact followed by some time staring intently at whatever is behind or above me.

momino good luck to your dh. I'm sure he'll be fine

Bedtime now for us here. Goodnight everyone. Hope it's not too interrupted

Momino · 23/06/2009 23:34

aww, thanks for well wishes to DH, i'll tell him you all said good luck . blotted, peas in the freezer!

well, i walked into this room and a pair of big bright eyes were staring out from a quiet baby. made me smile.

Morning!

Anyone else sufferring with hayfever? I've got tissues, throat sweets and hot ribena beside me here!

Hope everyone's had a good night.

Reggiee · 24/06/2009 07:59

Hope you're ok Ses. No hayfever here but sympathies. And I've never heard of granu..whatsit either. What is it?

Momi thinking of your dh today. I need to get my dh moving in that direction...

Dandy my ds is much more keen on looking round than at my face, unlike dd. He loves lights. Like Belgian, I think I read about the sex differences.

Good luck to all with their 6 week checks!
