Also, chocbunnies if you stop expressing altogether this week, you may well become more engorged and could even get blocked milk ducts/mastitis, so be careful if you stop cold-turkey. Might be better to wind it down slowly?

chocolatebunnies · 21/06/2009 22:18

Pula I have been stopping expressing as oftern durng the last few days to prepare to stop, it has helped and Im not as engorged today as I have been but haven't expressed today yet, am going to do some in a minute. I can get 200mls from my right boob but still have more in there just cant get it out as have no where to store it! Lefty is rubbish though! I may have been expressing too much, but I had no choice as I was so engorged the only thing I could do was express to release the pressure, but the last few days I have been doing it less and less.

Belgianchocolates · 21/06/2009 22:28

chocbunnies I just want to say that you've done really well with all that expressing. I'm surprised you think you don't have enough for C, being that you're always so engorged and can express so much. C was big too (9lbs10) and is thriving on my milk, so it's possible to satisfy a big baby on bm. Of course it's your decision to stop and he's your baby, but I'd like you to know that you were doing better than you think you were . If feel that ff is the way forward for you and you want to stop expressing, then cut down little by little in the way pula suggested or you'll make the engorgement worse. Maybe trying to do it in 1 week might be a bit too quick in your case.

Another one here who finds it almost impossible to get O to settle during the day away from me. In the morning he usually sleeps for an hour or two in his sling (we have a Babasling). Maybe I just have to be firm with myself in allowing him to cry. How long would you leave him crying? Can't imagine having a toddler to contend with too.

Tummum · 21/06/2009 23:27

Evening all. Have returned from another camping trip in the caravan which was shite! Am dreading the big France holiday in a few weeks, which may end in divorce. Funny moment was searching for 30 minutes for 3 pairs of shoes which mysteriously disappeared. Turns out foxes snuck into the awning at night and had them away... found 3 (one pair and a singleton) but sadly my favourite purple birkies are MIA. An excuse to buy some new ones I feel.

Dandy on your behalf. No flipping wonder your BP was sky high !

Choco hope the engorgement eases off soon. I found from DD1 that it took 3-4 days and then it suddenly stopped when I gave up BF.

Belgian at weight loss and nice BFing dress

Blotted sounds like a nightmare

Pula good luck tomorrow.

Gotta go, DD1 is throwing up again. Sigh.

Momino · 21/06/2009 23:29

evening all.
3ofeach, i'm so you haven't had all crying at once yet. i've had many a times already with all 3 of them crying/whinging/tantrum etc that I want to scream along with them (sometimes i do).
chocbun, amazed at your expressing!

Ses, i have trouble settling Harper during the day as well.

she doesn't seem to be able to be happy kicking on a playmat for very long. about five minutes is her time limit before she starts fussing which will turn into a scream if i don't pick her up quickly. is this usual for a 7week old? i just feel she's so high maintenance during the day.

ok, will be going to bed soon as I'll be up at 5am i'm certain.

Oh dear tummum, doesn't sound like a great weekend. Good that you get to do some shopping though!!

I'm yet another with an unsettled child during the day. I think ds2 has got wind rumbling round his tummy, so he's generally grumpy. Although he managed to fall asleep on my mum for a good 2hrs yesterday The main problem I have is that ds2 will not settle in the evening and spends the time crying - its driving me mad. I can't stop him from sleeping during the day...

ds2 has got over his chicken pox and I was looking forward to him going back to nursery today, but he's got a cold and temperature now so he's home again. My mum is going to have to look after him whilst I take ds2 for his hip ultrasound. Momino I had a congential hip problem, but it wasn't discovered until I was 20 so I agree that these things are best sorted out in childhood.

Ooo did I forget to tell you all ds2 slept from 10.30pm - 5am

Momino · 22/06/2009 07:55

daizy, so glad your DS over chick pox but sad he's still not feeling well.

re hip: how did you know you had the hip problem? must have been really tough to get over at 20.

and well done on the long stretch of sleep!

2 toddlers not awake yet so feeding harper and having a coffee that dh brought me an hour ago but i fell asleep till 5 min ago. H woke to feed at 5 and i brought her in bed. i usually put her back in the basket but she was so cosy and cute next to me, i kept her in to cuddle .

no plans today but will try to get out of the house after all the talk yesterday of the importance of gettingout. sometimes it's so tough though to get everyone including myself dressed and ready by which time someone needs a new nappy/potty or it's time for lunch, etc.

Morning all!

It's my quiet(er) day today, DD1 at the childminders until 5. A is asleep in the sling - it was the only way I could eat my breakfast! She screamed the whole time I was in the shower, I hate hearing her cry that much but I couldn't not have a shower, I leak so much overnight it's grim. I love BF, really pleased with how it's working for us BUT I do get a bit fed up of smelling of a lovely combination of warm milk, stale milk, regurgitated milk and milky sick [hmmm]. Actually, choc - wow on the expressing! Good advice from pp about cutting down. I hate expressing, I haven't tried it this time but with DD1 I was rubbish at it and it would take me weeks to get enough for a day out.

Right, now that I've finished my toast with butter and honey I'm going to the weight loss thread.

SesHasFinallyBecomeAMum · 22/06/2009 09:27

Morning all!
Glad I'm not the only one with cuddly baby issues. I love having him in my arms but it does limit what else gets done!

Friend coming over this morning with her 2.4yr DD and 3mo DS. Then I'm on my own til DH gets home around 9pm as he's got a late meeting today.

I have my 6wk check tomorrow. Is it just a nice quick chat to make sure everything's ok or anything more?

Must check in on that weight loss thread...

llareggub · 22/06/2009 09:53

Dandy made the Independent!

Belgianchocolates · 22/06/2009 10:01

I'm off to my 6 week check up in about 5 mins. If it's anything like the last 2 it'll be a waste of time really. It's just sort of: how are you feeling. Ok, fine, bye.

My ds had 1 fold extra on the one leg at his 6 months (or is it 9 month) check and had an ultrasound. He was fine.

tummum shame about your camping trip. Hopefully with a bit more practice it'll get better and better at the foxes stealing your shoes. I didn't know they could do that.

C had another great night 11-4! and then 6.30. I feel great today!

I really need to try and get C to take a bottle, but I'm also putting off trying to express. I couldn't do it with ds, did with dd1, but have a feeling it'll be more like with ds this time + it's easier to just put her on, rather than the faffing about with sterilising and the like.

Belgianchocolates · 22/06/2009 10:02

Yay dandy is famous!

flippineck · 22/06/2009 10:12

tummum - shame about your trip, but lol at foxes! Boo about missing shoes. We had a loaf of bread and a bag of couscous stolen by a badger once when we were camping. Well, allegedly a badger - loads of people on the had food go missing and one bloke kept telling everyone it was a badger. We think it was him, trying to feed his four children on a budget.

Tummum · 22/06/2009 10:25

Wow Dandy can I have your autograph !

6 week check - having spoken to my HV I am going to complain about mine. The Dr had obviously not read my notes before I walked in, and didn't ask at all about my AND or piles. She didn't have a clue I had 2 other DC and it was a home birth. All I got was "are you OK?" I said yes and that was the end of the check . She didn't do a top to tail on G at all and only looked at him when I mentioned his dicky foot/leg. So I am going to rebook a 6 week check for G because his newborn check was a bit all over the place too as we got a locum GP who was a bit rubbish.

EBsmom my child escapologist tale was 2 Christmases ago when DD2 was 18 months old. DH and I had front door open unloading car from Christmas shopping trip. I then made a cup of tea whilst DH was sorting out the presents. 10 minutes later I brought DH cuppa and idly asked where DD2 was. "I thought she was with you" was the response. She wasn't. Cue mad panic. Looked everywhere and she was no-where to be found. Opened front door and she was out the front, messing around with the cars. Phew ! Luckily we live on a cul-de-sac but still, we needed a large glass of brandy afterwards to calm down

Tummum · 22/06/2009 10:28

I'm just not convinced the camping thing is for me. I'm a pretty big girl and clumsy to boot, so working around a small space with 3 DC I find v. stressful. Also, in the evening DS was crying and feeding constantly, and feeding in a camping chair was really uncomfortable. At least at home I can watch telly whilst stuck on the sofa. DH can't understand why I don't like it, and we are away for 2 weeks in August. How am I going to cope?!

pulapula · 22/06/2009 10:31

morning all,

10.25 and i'm on MN already on my first day with 3 DCs. Well after telling everyone else to get out of the house we are all on the sofa watching peppa pig whilst DS2 has a BF. My DD didnt want to go to playgroup and i only had 10 mins to convince her and get her dressed before DS2 wanted a feed so i decided it wasn't worth the struggle. Poor DS1 got dressed very nicely and was raring to go, so i will have to be more forceful next time.

I was trying to get DS2 onto EASY so i could plan around him but he has just fallen asleep feeding. Not sure whether to rouse him or just let him sleep? mmmm tricky. oh he might be coming round now... we will see...

Hello,

So we've been on our own since 7.30 and so far Madi has cried almost constantly as she wants daddy and Corey is all out of sorts, I reckon he knows DH has gone back to work!

I had to wake Corey last night at 11.30 after letting him sleep on the sofa from 4.30, he then realised that he had missed one feed and was due the next and went loopy, he drunk his milk so quickly that within 10 mins of him finishing it he threw it all back up,it was awful,he was lying down and it was a fountin coming out of his mouth and his nose at the same time, I picked him up as I thought he was going to choke and he was panicing and threw his head back in a panic while I tried to lie him over my knee to help him get it out, he got so upset after aswell and it just kept coming out of his nose and making him sneeze, was horrible! Poor little man!

His poops have been like clockwork since he was born, always between 6-7am and he hasnt hadone today yet!!!! Dont know what to do as we hae got into a rountine with his poopy nappies as he only does one a day if your not ready it xplodes out of the nappy, so we have to change his nappy before hand so he has an emptyone to fill, now I dont now when to change it, argh, I don't want to haveto deal with poo everywhere on my first day on my own!!!!

SpangleMaker · 22/06/2009 10:59

Yay to Dandy being famous But llareggub you share the honour too!

As an aside, can't believe how many journos use MN. Ages ago I saw a thread started by UnquietDad I think, something about education and quite provocative... few days later there's an article in Times2 on the very same subject

Belgianchocolates · 22/06/2009 11:23

We're back from our 6 week check. C's belly button is fine and healing nicely now. It was a locum, but it was the most thorough questioning I've ever had on a 6 week check ever!

On the way home C woke with a sudden scream and was unsettled. When we got home I discovered why: she had a pooye nappy. Anyway during the changing she pooed a bit more, nice and squirty missing the (clean) nappy she was on and the changing mat, but reaching the carpet, my legs and feet. Nice. First time I've been pooed on though. Not bad for 6 weeks

tummum I'm sure things will be easier by august. Your ds will be that bit bigger and easier + you wont be in the van all that much as the weather will be so much nicer. When we went last week the weather was beautiful and we barely spent any time inside. C was also happier being carried around during our walks etc... and generally slept when out and about.

llareggub · 22/06/2009 11:25

Blimey Spangle I've only just noticed that I'm there too!

Tummum · 22/06/2009 11:29

I think you're right Belgian The trip wasn't helped by DH buggering off for Sat afternoon to watch the rugby and returning absolutely trashed. He then retired to sleep at 5.30pm.
