We have just got back from a lovely trip to the park. They have a lovely little cafe thats recently been done up. We all had pasta and and ice cream. Very reasonable prices and very yummy
They are all in the bath now with DH keeping a close eye on them. Hes a braver man than me
Right better get the towels and toothbrushes ready.
Have good nights all xx

Luckily my dad said he will pick J up from school and buy him a happy meal or something as I think he will be too tired to come to docs at 4.30.

Bet bathtime is fun at yours

LaT - hope Sabela not ill

Lilyloo - hope you are ok?

Have posted on your other thread...

JustKeepSwimming · 16/06/2009 21:50

Simps - hope the drugs kick in asap.

Lily - have posted, chin up luv

and thanks, this time tomorrow....

T was v touchy today (and i hadn't told him we were going anywhere until after all this), tears at the drop of a hat. tired i think, after some early mornings.

H has had some clear days recently but had over 10 nods this evening
directly linked to not sleeping properly this afternoon (think having a poo woke him up!) and having tea + drugs slightly late.

LaTrucha · 16/06/2009 22:16

Sending you a big, big hug Lilyloo.

I ahve stayed up too late planning my birhtday party in July. Essentially, I hate my birthday and am a grumpy horrible cow. So, I decided to turn it into an unbirthday for Sabela. I though I'd enjoy it a lot more with a bunch of toddlers running round bursting ballons.

Have ordered farm-themed party boxes and invitations, blow outs and am toying with whether bubbles, ballons or maracas would be a better toy! Am going to put sultanas, corn crisps and that sort of thing too. Any ideas?

Much more fun than a boring old mummy birthday already!

Housemum · 16/06/2009 22:46

Lily - makes me shudder, it will go through your head a lot to start with but just keep pushing it to the back of your mind. We have all done absent minded things that could have turned out much worse (I was fannying about at the till in a shopping centre when DD2 was only 3 or 4, only for her to have walked out of the shop and start a conversation with some drunk. This was around the time of the whole McCann disappearance).

Simpson - was it you that was asking re highchairs? We have the Ikea one with the optional tray - fab, no hiding place for grot. We have a Tripp Trapp without the baby rail for when she's bigger, DD2 using it at the moment as it gives her somewhere to rest her feet as they don't reach the floor.

LaT - wow at the swimming! Amelie loves the jumping in but I haven't tried letting go yet! Do you swim a lot?

Umm, can't remember what else i was going to say, and must take advantage of the fact that DH away to have an early night (normally we sit watching telly till stupid-o'clock)

LaTrucha · 17/06/2009 09:16

Lily - how are you feeling this morning?

Housemum- we've only been twice since we've been back but she loves it. I can't say she's thrilled when I let go but she also does let me do it IYSWIM. She can keep herself supported for about 30 seconds. A lot of the rest of the time I jst support her with one hand under her chest. If this was something to do with walking and I was pushing her she'd protest like crazy. In the pool she's a lot more daring. She's constantly pointing to the slide and the sides so she can splash in - although obviously I hold her when she does these things.

Would you all share what your LOs are eating ATM. I'm trying to introduce new things to Sabela but I'm running out of inspiration.

Also, are your LOs still having things mashed up. Sabela will eat slices of toast, cheese etc. But actual meals are still soft and mashed.

To give you an idea of some actual meals she eats, apart from toast, biscuits, rice cakes etc:

jacket potato and cheese (no skin!)
fish with potatoes, spinach and leeks
pasta pesto
past bolognese
scrambled eggs and cheese
salmon fishcakes
eggy bread
chicken with fresh tomato, carrot and courgette (this is pretty much a puree)

I'm trying her with squash risotto this week.

Also, will your child eat things like cubed carrots or peas and sweetcorn if out on the tray.

I'm feeling like a bit of a food failure again, as she doesn't like feeding herself and is very loathe to try new things, especially things like pieces of fruit on her try. She'll have a few bites of an apple if I'm eating one, or a bit of banana or pear. However, we've had four days of her feeding me blueberries and she's only put one bit in her mouth yesterday. It was progress but it was spat staight out.

If I give her the spoon she just plays with it. She only outs it to her mouth if I guide it up there. She's more likely to put it in mine!

Lilyloo · 17/06/2009 12:32

Hey all thanks for all your support
Just collected dd1 from pre school where they said she was very quiet so i had to explain to them what happened.
I didn't sleep much last night and still feel anxious now. One of them things you immediately remember on waking

But luckily M is absolutely fine other than the cuts to her tongue , i am so so lucky.

Afternoon ladies.
Oh Lillyloo I had a lump in my throat reading your thread. Reminds me of when ds1 got knocked down in Tesco car park. He was about 3 and a 4x4 knocked him down. The woman driving worked at Tesco and said she was late for her shift. I called her a few expletives I can tell you. He was fine after being checked over at the hospital. The ambulance man said because he had his hood on that stopped him getting a neck injury.I am extra careful with the other 3 now in any car park.
Had a bit of a gggrrr moment this morning. It would seem George has gone up a shoe size to 6 so I suggested to DH we get him some new shoes and sandals. Went to Barrats. Asked the guy to measure his feet first. He sat George down and put the measure thing on his feet and said 'he is still a size 5' so I put the measure thing on the floor and put Georges foot on it. Low and behold he is a size 6! . My Mum worked in a shoe shop when I was younger and I still remember some tips she told me I said to the guy' you should learn to do your job properly'. DH didn't know where to look anyway we got George a nice pair of camoflage osh kosh shoes and a blue pair of striped sandals in size 6.
Right off for some lunch now.

LaTrucha · 17/06/2009 13:15

Did you really say that Gingeme? That's usually the sort of thing I wish I'd said!

nicky6 · 17/06/2009 13:32

ginge you are not a woman to be messed with.

LaT cant help on food front as my little girl charlie is actually a caveman - we went to harvester at weekend and charlie ate chicken mash and peas but then saw me and dh eating chicken and ribs off the bone and copied drumstick then rib, ripping meat off with her 4 teeth saying bite - i laughed my head off.

charlie will eat anything except anything easy so not great fan of pasta or bananas, but even had chinese take away for tea the other night very bad of me.

i am sure none of you considering this but O Baby have recently brought out a tandem pushchair almost identical to phil and ted but about £250 including double seat, footmuff and rain thing - good about time someone gave them some competition.

have been forbidden from putting up blackout blinds til dh back at weekend - very annoying although i do get the no ladder climbing point i suppose, 6am starts have to stop, as me and her knackered. hopefullt blackout blinds will do the trick otherwise will try the wake to sleep thing. am going to go back to one of our early threads to remember what to put in hospital bag!!!!

simpson · 17/06/2009 16:59

LaT - Molly will only eat chunks of food so no puree at all but J was the total opposite and was still eating purees at this age and not feeding himself either.

M will eat anything really but loves her meat, all veg and fruit.

Think this is because her body knows she has to make un the essential nutrients that dhe misses out on being dairy free iyswim.

Raisins were the thing that made Molly feed herself, those and grapes.

She will sometimes let me feed her a fruitpura pot or hipp organic banana rice pudding jar but that does depend on her mood TBH

Well done sabela on the swimming front

Bad mummy I must take Molly again, only done it once

Gingeme · 17/06/2009 17:21

Yes LaT I realy did say that. Well what if I was a person whos Mum didnt work at a shoe shop and merrily taken a size too small home. Having to have all the bother of taking them back again or worse still letting my child be cripple by too small shoes simply because the guy in the shoe shop said so? Ooh just read that back. Sorry didn't mean to shout lol
Im getting really fed up with stupid people asking questions about an item I am selling on Ebay. Its a Bibi Swiss Stroller and I have put it as Pick up in person only. Ive had a bout 5 people asking if I would consider sending it plus do I have a buy it now price! Gggrrrr....
Still its only got another 20 hours and it will be sold. Now I remember why I take stuff to the charity shops
Oh Im such a moany thing this afternoon aren't I? Not ;ike me.
Oh did I tell you DH is taking me out to dinner tommorrow evening? Dads babysitting
Wow is it tea time already?

simpson · 17/06/2009 17:36

Gingeme - I have my double buggy in shed and still have not got round to doing anything with it.

Enjoy tomorrow night

LaTrucha · 17/06/2009 18:57

Lily - just for the record, I think the last post on your other thread is really inappropriate.

Gingeme - dinner out? Wow!

Simpson - thatnks for advice. She just scooped up a potato and a half or so of jacket potato and cheese from her tray - actually fed herself. So, I can say we made progress today.

She also took a few steps AWAY from me at playgroup without being asked. And she went from a walker to a chair of her own volition too. So, progress there too.

Just feel really down today. Probably just Af on the way(and I'll be disappointed when that comes too).

Gingeme · 17/06/2009 19:38

All sounds like good progress Lat .
Don't ask me to sell the double buggy for you Simpson
Re dinner out its DH's way of apologising for the PSP fiasco last week. He says we need more 'us' time should be grateful really shouldn't I
How are you today madmouse?
Wonder if JKS is on her way safely
Well the boys are in bed, not asleep yet mind you.
DH at work still. Bugger all on tv.
Guess I'll pop to facebook for a bit.
Night all xx

Lilyloo · 17/06/2009 19:58

Evening all
Agree LaT that is a very post and there but for the grace of god is all i can say....
Will try and be a bit more helpful tom am think i need an early night tbh

Ok, can I run this past you party experienced mummies.

I'm aiming for something informal for our picnic party.

The picnic site is in our castle park, next to the playground.

All children from a year to 3 years. Around a dozen.

I've ordered a party box for each child. I'm going to put in: bubbles, a party blower, packet of corn crisps, a mini cheese, raisins, mini banana.

I'm going to take our sunshade and some rugs. I might take down some bigger toys like our rocking horse.

It's going to be from 11am to 1pm.

Foodwise I'm going to take cucumber, tomatoes and things without dressing for kiddies, a more adult couple of salads and some chicken drumsticks. Cup cakes, halved grapes and strawberries.

Questions

  1. Does this sound ok?

  2. are any of the following things worth considering: music; paddling pool with plastic balls in; some other kind of toy for children to play with.

  3. more food.

  4. another toy in the party box - if so, what? I saw some cool mini maracas. Or a balloon? A Little book?

Please tell me if I'm going wrong anywhere. I want it to be nice. BTW, if it rains, we're just not going to go. And I freeze a lot of chicken.

Gingeme · 17/06/2009 20:46

LaTrucha music is usually good in case things get a bit heated and you can suggest a little dance or sing a long.
Balloons not such a good idea in party boxes as choking hazard
What drinks are you providing?
Mini rice cakes go down well or mini bread sticks.Maybe babybels to.
Apart from that sounds like you have everything to make the party go with a swing
p.s can we come?

Lilyloo · 18/06/2009 10:38

LaT that sounds lovely
Agree though some music is a good idea. Maybe a bubble blowing machine for the little ones who can't blow bubbles ??

Feel really emotionl today can't get that news report out of my mind from that post on my thread. Feel like i have got pmt but only had af last week so it's not that.

OP posts:
simpson · 18/06/2009 11:31

Lilyloo - ((hugs)) Hope you are ok? How are H & L? it will do you good to keep talking about it I think...

Feeling a bit myself today. Just waiting for letter from benefit office ans absolutely shitting it that it won't be enough to pay mortgage.

Just before we left for hosp appt with M this morning a letter arrived saying "benefit decision" and I didn't have the guts to open it before we left

I wish I had now as both Dcs behavior truly shocking as they were picking up on my tension. Felt like leaving them both at the hosp and going home without them TBH. God knows what dietician thought

Anyway totally freaked when i got back as opened letter and it said I was entitled to £30 a wk Then when I calmed down I realsed that I think its just council tax benefit and housing benefit not decided yet.

Anyway, hosp appt went well and dietician says there is not calcium supplement she can really have but to work with what we have ie the fact that she is a good eater and give her things like tinned sardines which are high in calcium and to cook with neocate (rice pudding - like I don't have enough things to do ) and to puree fruit and put it in her neocate hoping she will drink more

LaT - on the party front sounds like you have it pretty much sorted but yes bubble maker would be good. We had one at J's 3rd birthday party and it was a big hit!!

Lilyloo · 18/06/2009 11:33

Simps ((hugs)) back. It must be v stressful waiting on their decision. Does the award for that sound like what you were expecting ??

OP posts:
Lilyloo · 18/06/2009 11:36

H and L are fine i think ...
H just told everyone we met yesterday dancing , hairdresser etc
L funnily enough slept for 2 hours yesterday aft
dp not even talked about it , just trying to make joke of it which is p####g me off tbh
and M getting away with blue murder atm so that will have to stop soon
