bumps I don't think Luke likes purees either. I have a freezer drawer full of the stuff that I've made in big batches over the past few weeks. Git. Might see if my friend wants them for her 8mo.

PinkTulips · 07/08/2009 10:29

lbb.... they could be reborn as soups that you dip some bread in and hand to him as finger food?

bumps... pain in the arse isn't it? i get so jealous reading the lovely meals the others can give their babies and i can't give any of them!

herbgarden · 07/08/2009 10:48

Morning all....lbb sounds promising. Just a thought and you probably already know this but be careful with the egg. Some babies/small children can be allergic - I know one of my mates who's a veggie tried her little girl with egg and she had an almost immediate reaction to it - all the doctors had disappeared on some away day but she managed to persuade the local pharmacist to give her some piriton...DS was fine with it and it was his staple diet as a small baby.

Anyway, after my stressful day yesterday just been to Tesco and was about to get the kids out of the car when DD chunders all over herself, her car seat and the seat back...marvellous. I've promised DS a trip to the Costa coffee in tesco. I have baby covered in sick and screaming toddler. I'm back home now with car seat cover trundling round in the washing machine and DD in a clean babygro. I'm thinking now that she's picked up a bug in her first week at nursery. DS never made it to his first week - he picked up a D&V bug when he went on a visit !? Poor little thing. I can't entirely remember what we did with him but do remember it didn't get better quickly and eventually had to "starve" him on water for a day to get the bug out of his system and stop him pooing and throwing up. The Joy of it !....

I wish it would bloody stop RAINING too....I was going to buy a DVD for us all to watch this afternoon as for once we have no plans but didn't even make it into the shop....

Hope you're all having slightly better days !

herbgarden · 07/08/2009 10:49

Sorry re-read my post and what I meant to say when I say my friend was a veggie -she is bringing her daughter up veggie so was hoping she could use eggs a lot in her diet but couldn't in the end.....

littleboyblue · 07/08/2009 10:55

PT How do I make them into soups?
herb yeah, I'll make sure eggs are cooked properly and I have some anti-histamines here so I'd give him one of those to get him to hospital.
There aren't any allergies in our families at all, so hoping he'll be ok.
What a crappy morning! Hope dd recovers quickly.
I've just bought Jurassic park 2 for me and ds1 to watch later. He loved the first one, didn't scare him at all!

bumpsnowjustplump · 07/08/2009 12:24

PT when can we give egg? cant remember

PinkTulips · 07/08/2009 12:43

it's supposed to be 12 months i think but ds1 grabbed mashed potato from my plate and ate it before 6 months and it had egg in it which i didn't realise til later so i started giving it at 8 months as he'd had no reaction to it that time (and i was getting stuck for meal ideas!)

will be waiting til at least 9 months with A and longer if he's showing any signs of being prone to intolerances.

lbb... i presume they're already quite liquid the purrees? just add a little more water while reheating til they're of soupy consistancy and voila... soup

bumpsnowjustplump · 07/08/2009 12:48

Right I will wait till after dairy then just to be on the safe side. no one has told me what to look out for when introducing food groups either. What would happen if there was an allergy/intollerance? So far all has been normal (although he is sick but think that is not food just reflux) but what can i expect if he alergic to dairy, wheat, gluton or eggs?

bumpsnowjustplump · 07/08/2009 12:48

or intollerant?

littleboyblue · 07/08/2009 13:21

12 months for an egg? are you sure? Is that for allergy babies only?

Lunch went really well. Ds1 hated it, so I did him some crackers, but Luke loved it! He let me give him a couple of spoonfuls and then used his fingers. He had a go with the green beans too.
I don't think he ate too much, but the important thing is that he was more interested in it, so we'll see how it goes. I know it's only been 2 meals, but I feel alot more relaxed just putting food infront of him and letting him do whatever. I feel it's taken a bit of pressure and frustration off me.

Will try a dippy soup and some pitta bread. But there is loads there, so I have offered it to my friend. Her ds1 is 8 months and hates lumps, so he might like them. I will keep a bit for ourselves though, just incase.

bumps I think you'd see a rash, swelling of the face or tongue.
My friends dd was allergic to everything, and always came up with massive swelling if she got hold of anything she shouldn't have.

herbgarden · 07/08/2009 14:22

I think that's what my friends DD's reaction was - it was definitely face/tongue lips etc. She didn't have any allergies in the family so it was a complete shock to her....

Gave DD a bit of baby rice with some sweet potato and all her milk. Kept her awake a while and she went down for a kip no problem and is still asleep and didn't chuck it all up.

Wondering if she might be allergic to her breakfast porridge since i realise that I might have inadvertently put some of that (rather than babyrice) in her veggie soup for tea last night. It was after breakfast that she chucked up yesterday too but not after a big lunch which was lamb casserole.... and then she chucked up after her tea. I'm v.confused. She's been having that same breakfast every day for over a week. Must keep an eye out.....

We'll see. My lovely mum came to the rescue and came and sat in my house whilst I nipped out with DS to do the food shop and take him for a quick cafe stop. I had a lovely hour or so with him. I miss that me and him time sometimes.

bumpsnowjustplump · 07/08/2009 14:27

LBB if they are veg purees you could make them into a pasta sauce for DS1 or thicken them up with rice for ds2.

DS has had banana and plum sticks for lunch. He ate loads then was very sick. Think I will leave plums now!!!!!! DS has been really clingy today and has not slept at all. He usually has 20 mins sleep in the morning and the same in the afternoon after a feed. So I feed him to sleep then put him in his cot. I have just put him in his cot awake and crying but after 2 mins of being in there he fell asleep on his tummy.... piece at last.... arggghhhhhh

PinkTulips · 07/08/2009 14:55

bumps, it varies hugely. allergies are quite easy to spot as they tend to involve rashes and swelling and possible anaphylactic shock very soon after exposure to the food.

in tolerances are different. i'll describe my own personal experiences. when dd was given cows milk at 6 months she developed severe blistered nappy rash, when the cows milk was taken away, the rash cleared up instantly. now that she's able to tell us she usually complains of a sore tummy after having cows milk and gets the runs, although she's growing out of this slowly but surely. ds1 used to get the runs if he had cow's milk but grew out of it about 2.5 as he had far less exposure than dd and not until he was much older.

with wheat the problem is that is damages dd's gut so that food isn't absorbed properly, she had soft or runny poo with lots of undigested food in it, she was irritable, she stopped gaining weight completely and the long term effects were severe malnourishment and anemia. she also has mild eczema which flares up if she's exposed to wheat

bumpsnowjustplump · 07/08/2009 20:32

Thanks pt at least i can look out for things now....

dinkystinky · 08/08/2009 06:45

Morning all. Herb - hope DD is better now. Am off to Nottinghamshire in an hour for Danny's rice ceremony at my parents this afternoon - here's hoping he enjoys it more than his brother enjoyed his (he basically looked terrified or cried the whole way through poor thing!). Have made sure my mum has made it a much smaller affair this time round (last time round there were over a hundred people there - this time only 40) so fingers crossed for a good time for all - and for Danny to grab anything other than the bling when the tray is offered to him...

Hope you all have a great weekend. Oh yes, new thread title needed soon - get your thinking hats on. How about "Fab Feb 2009: hey-ho, hey-ho, its off to babyproof we go"?

dinky Hope today goes well and you all enjoy it.

Don't know what we're upto today. Dp wants to get ds1 a football strip with his birthday money, so we might see if my mum wants Luke for a few hours and the 3 of us go to the West Ham store on the train.
That's if dp gets up!

Luke is atm enjoying more toast. He was up feeding through the night which I think is a sign he didn't have enough food yesterday. Dp isn't completely happy with the idea of BLW so I have said I'll give finger foods alongside purees and not completely abandon them.

dinky New thread title sounds good.

PinkTulips · 08/08/2009 17:46

good day lbb?

i have a washing machine since yesterday after 3 weeks without.... am overjoyed it fits loads though so much handier with the kids. we ordered a drier yesterday which should be here any minute as i can't get stuff dry outsid 4/5 days and there's only so many places i can pile wet laundry inside.

i have to say btw... spoon feeding isn't half as annoying when the baby actually likes the mush you cook for him

dd never liked anything i made her, i used to get so frustrated cooking for her as she rejected everything (still does!) but A loves almost everything i make him, it just makes it so much nicer feeding him... he was getting cross tonight at dinner as i was taking too long to shovel it in his mouth as i had the audacity to try and eat my own dinner lol! (we feed him at the table when we're having dinner, i just prefer us all eating at once as a family... littlest included)

mumoverseas · 08/08/2009 18:01

hi all, had a busy few days here.

herby, hope your DD is ok after her little bump on head

dinky, hope rice ceremony went well

bumps thing I could probably make BW Tues or Wed but will double check. Either that or pretty much any day the following week apart from Monday.

DS1 back from work experience, totally loved it and sill wants to be a lawyer

mine and DHs 4th weding anniversary today and yet again we are apart Didn't expect much as he is rubbish at things like anniversarys and cards etc and never buys cards. I put a small present in his bag before he went back a few weeks ago (top gear book and some choccies) but hadn't expected too much. Anyway, a parcel turned up a few days ago with instructions not to open until today and it was a beautiful blue topaz necklace and earrings (apparently the stone for 4th anniversary?) then DS handed me a card DH had given him to pass on and then a huge bouquet of roses and lilys turned up. Was so chuffed, its only taken him 4 years to remember anniversarys!

Took kids out today to a local 'maize maze' Had great fun (although got lost very badly in maze) and were there from 10am to 4pm as they had other stuff like tractor rides and bouncy castle and slide etc. Needless to say DD fell asleep in car, we put her on sofa when home and she woke up very grouchy about half an hour ago.

Managed a bit of gardening outside too as our front garden was looking like a jungle. DS and I made a start and he has got right into it sawing everything down. Needs finishing tomorrow but garden looks much better and just have to work out how to get rid of the 6ft pile of cuttings we have in the driveway!
Have decided to go and do a carboot sale in a few weeks to get rid of some of the crap/tat we have accumulated over the years. Were going to ebay some but can't be arsed.

Hope everyone is ok.

any news of a meet up before I return to the land of sand or is everyone hoping to ignore me!

BTW, where is MS? DH has found a fab house in Norfolk and we want to pick your brains

swampster · 08/08/2009 23:30

MS is here.

littleboyblue · 09/08/2009 03:20

MoS Happy anniversary. Pressie and flowers sound lovely. Good for him.
PT I know what you mean about the spoon feeding. Dinner went well, he had 3 cubes of puree. It's an Annabel one, called See In The Dark and is onion, carrot and chicken stock and he ate the lot followed by a premade tub of fruit puree and an apple rice cake.
Don't know what it is, maybe this one was sweeter? Maybe it's because it's a bit smoother? Maybe carrot, swede and parsnip is disgusting?

Anyway, now I have put ds1 back to bed, just woke to find him in the middle of me and dp, I should head back to bed.

mumoverseas · 09/08/2009 08:04

MS hope all is ok with you? You've not been your 'normal' self?
I'd wanted to ask what North Walsham is like as DH has seen a house there. Do you know it?

dinky so did Danny eat his rice?

dinkystinky · 09/08/2009 09:11

Morning all. So to read the Markstretch thread - really hope that her granddad is at peace now and she and her family are all ok.

MoS - hurrah for your DH being so lovely and thoughtful with his presents for you! And its good DS1 enjoyed his work experience - though I'm with you in not wanting any of my kids to be a lawyer My parents were the same - both doctors and didnt want me or my sister to be medics either...

Pink - hurrah for a return to the world of clean (albeit until the kids can get their hands on them) clothes!

LBB - did you get DS1 his west ham kit? The aaaarghs suggest may be not

Danny's rice ceremony went brilliantly - the weather was glorious so we were all out in my parents huge garden, he smiled and charmed all ,enjoyed it, ate a tiny bit of rice but wasnt too keen but really loved some curried veg instead and he grabbed some nuts and books instead of the bling which means he will be very healthy and studious - well either that or a hypochondriac librarian And DS1 was brilliantly behaved too!

littleboyblue · 09/08/2009 09:33

Just read MS's thread there. That's very sad, but doesn't her grandad sound like a strong, special man? Her grandma too.

dinky No. As I was getting dressed yesterday morning, friend text and asked if I wanted to meet her for coffee at 9. Anyhoo, while I was replying, ds1 threw a plastic box at Luke's face, so Luke's screaming, got a little cut above his lip, so trying to calm him while putting ds1 in the naughty spot, so he is also screaming. I went into bedroom to get my handbag etc and dp was awake so I asked him if he was getting up and he said "why?" so I said because I'm meeting someone for coffe, so if you're getting up, I'll leave the boys here and have half an hour without them. He said "oh, I'll stay in bed then"!!!!! So I took boys with me, but the git (dp) got up just after I'd put ds1's shoes on knowing full well I wouldn't then not take ds1.

Luke whinged and cried for the whole bloody day and dp was getting so stressed about it! Then I had an afternoon nap, I told him I needed to go shops for dinner, so when I got up he said we'd all go (this is 4pm) I asked him when Luke was last fed and he said he hadn't been so I told him we wouldn't even get to shop before he would start screaming. Dp said it'd be fine, I said it wouldn't, so went on like that for a minute, in the end we all went, got halfway there and I had to turn around to come home and feed a screaming baby.

Everytime Luke whinges, ds1 starts to copy until he's crying aaaarrrrrggggghhhhhhhhhhh

Hopefully we'll all go out today and do something nice.

dinky glad rice ceremony went well.

PinkTulips · 09/08/2009 11:50

glad the rice ceremony went well dinky.... was there a sigh of relief from your dh when the bling went untouched?
