Sorry to hear the piggy flu has invaded your house Coco - but good to hear that it isnt as bad as the media is making it out to be. Hope you and your DH are holding up with 3 ill kids. Capsules for infants??? I thought there was supposed to be some kind of suspension form for smaller kids...

Yet another night with no sleep.... I am so tired I am not functioning this morning....

My breast milk in the freezer is four months old next month. Can I still use it? Guide lines in the packet of bm bags I got is 3 - 6 months but this is german not uk guidelines... Sorky any advice?????

Starting food today. I was going to give him a little rice after lunch feed and then some sticks of veg after dinner feed with us at the table... What do you think????

So sorry about swine flu coco it must be so hard for you!!! Hope they all get better soon. Can you not break the capsule into water or something (probably a silly question and you have already tried it sorry)!!

dinkystinky · 27/07/2009 08:34

Bumps - I'd post your Q about the EBM in the breastfeeding board. Am sure you'll get an answer pretty quickly there. Sorry you had another shocker of a night. My top tip for attempting to start weaning is do it earlier in the day rather than later - Danny's sucking of fruit last night resulted in a spectacular poo at 4 this morning which resulted in him wanting to start the day then...

Good Idea DS thanks

Cocodrillo · 27/07/2009 08:55

the tamiflu tastes foul, really bitter, so my 5 yr old refused to take it. think she is on the mend now but the other two have just come down with it. Me and DH have it but mildly. bit concerned re DS as he is so young, but he mainly seems hot, but alert and not floppy etc.

bumpsnowjustplump · 27/07/2009 09:06

Co co so sorry for you it must be awful for you. What have doctors said about ds can he take tamiflu?

PinkTulips · 27/07/2009 10:41

bumps... if you suspect a dairy intolerance it's best to avoid dairy altogether til after 9 months i'm afraid. with possible allergy risks you'll also need to avoid gluten til about 7/8 months, then wheat til about 10/11 months. eggs should be delayed til a year and nuts and seeds even later.

kiwis, strawberries, celery, potatoes and beans, citrus fruits, coconut, mango, melons, onions, papaya, peas, shellfish, soybeans and tomatoes all carry high allergy risks too and should be delayed and introduced very carefully.

mos... well done to your ds1 you must be so proud of him

herbgarden · 27/07/2009 16:22

Hellooo everyone I've not been around the last few days not sure why.
coco sorry you're all poorly with the dreaded flu - hard when the meds are so disgusting that you just know the littlies won't take it...ridiculous you can't get it any other way. We had that with some anti-b's we got for DS in Greece - even I thought they were revolting... Really hope you all get on the mend soon.
MOS welcome back from hols and maybe you'll tell us all about it soon .
dinky - sounds like you need a week off not just a weekend....is the nanny on her hols too ??? Although she presumably only works weekdays.

No sign of the flu yet here although DS has a case of it in his nursery in the room next door to him maybe we won't escape.

DD is loving her mush. Been to Ikea again today to get her a cheap high chair - DS had a Svan chair (bit like a Stokke trip trap) which is now basically a normal chair at a higher level. I had a slightly stroppy MN exchange on the weaning thread earlier as I was asking what others had done re highchairs if you have an older one too - I mentioned that DD was feeding in her bouncy chair so far (we're talking upright bouncy chair here) and it seemed to invite a discussion on whether that was dangerous or not. I get soooooo irritated by it all - you just ask a simple practical question - and all you get is opinions on your child rearing. I've already had one child ffs who is fine and people think you must be completely daft. Ooooh Rant over. Anyway, I bought the Antilop Chair with table and the blow up cushion for £19 and it's great as she's just at the right height for feeding off the table. She looks sooooo cute sitting in it.

Waiting for builder no 6 to turn up to give us a quote for our renovations....he's running late.

Starting back at work a week today. Very about not having DD to myself for a couple of days a week. She just doesn't get much of a look in when her brothers around so it's nice having our time together although he'll be doing 2 mornings of pre-school come September so we'll get a bit of time together on our own then. Hoping we'll be able to drop that last little feed at 10pm this week to see if she'll go 7 - 7 without a feed - she's only taking 2 oz but I've not been brave enough to do it. I think I might need my 9pm bedtime once work starts again !!.....

Right I think the man's arrived.....

Ri

dinkystinky · 27/07/2009 18:02

Afternoon all. Took DS1 and Danny to Westfield today to "meet" Peppa Pig and George which as one might imagine was preschooler central today - DS1 was v excited but scared when he actually got to meet them, though did give them both a high 5 and a hug in the end... but god he's been an overtired pain in the arse ever since then as he only slept for 10 minutes in the car on the way home and is being uber-whingy, uber-naughty and uber-annoying and not listening to anything I or his nanny tell him. Cant wait for his bedtime tonight. Little Princess is there next week but there is no way in hell I am coping with DS1 like this again next week. Danny was a dream - happy in his pushchair for most of the time and had a couple of feeds and a lovely long snooze in his buggy.

Herb - glad you're happy with your ikea chair. Have a trip trapp for DS1 and would love one for Danny but think we'll get an ikea one for the uber messy stage.

Coco hope you are all better soon

bumps sorry you are having a bad time. Would a meet up at bluewater cheer you up???

herby I'm feeding H in a bouncy chair (can't see the point buying a high chair for the few weeks I'm here) and he is DC4. Ignore the silly arses who think they know it all. I bet they've never given their DC a fruit shoot either

ref holiday, the main problem we found with France was that it was full of bloody french people who are so bloody rude and arrogant

dinky DH survived Milkshake tour yesterday. Just. DD was a little rat last night though. Must be the excitement of it all.

herbgarden · 27/07/2009 18:30

aaah so that's where you find french people....In FRANCE !! (Hee Hee teasing) - we tend to go to France mostly to ski and I find the non queuing ones in the ski lift queues the worst - they shove their way to the front cursing everyone in their wake..I also had a bit of a run in with a car rental agent in Marseille once. Less said the better !....

Mmm, did get myself quite wound up about that thread which makes me so cross...I just sometimes think that said posters would never go up to someone in the street and start spouting off uninvited so why do it on here ? If I'd have asked for commentary on the safety of feeding in a bouncy chair then I'd have asked for it in my post....Anyway. Last time I do that.

I'm off to my parents house tomorrow with my electric screwdriver to assemble a flat packed chest of drawers - my mum can't face my dads swearing at it !!....DD can chip in at the appropriate moment !

thehouseofmirth · 27/07/2009 19:03

Hi everyone, not dropped off face of earth, just very consumed by real life! Hope everyone's well. Have been dropping in for a lurk now & then.

Coco sorry you're all inflicted by the piggy flu but good to hear it sounds not as bad as it's been suggested.

Bumps if your EBM is in a separate freezer (ie not just a little ice box at the top of a fridge) then actually it's OK for 6-12 months so yours should be fine.

No sign of food readiness here. Accidentally stuck a piece of cheese in Tarran's mouth (forget which child I was supposed to be feeding) and he was shocked and surprised. Recent offers of avocado, cucumber, green beans and broccoli have met a similar reaction so I guess we're a way off yet but he is only 5 months and I'm glad he's in no hurry.

Am very impressed with Meredith's bunny hopping on FB. Tarran loves to stand and will spend hours bending & straightening his legs but unlike DS1 hates being on his tummy so no crawling here any time soon. Can't say I'm sorry about that! However, he has discovered clapping though I suspect it might be his way of trying to get a bit of attention as he is largely ignored most of the time poor little chap.

littleboyblue · 27/07/2009 19:42

Hello all. Back from SIL's today. So glad to be home and looking forward to getting into my own bed!
Going to try to catch up, see how many pages I've missed.
Hope all well. Back in a bit......

littleboyblue · 27/07/2009 19:55

Well, haven't you all been very quiet this past week? You must all have lives .

PT Can't believe you're still not well! How awful, hope you get better soon. x

Mos Huge well done to your ds1, you must all be so proud

Coco about the swine flu. PSL and her dp are over it now so fingers crossed won't be too long for you.

Well, Luke's weaning went very well at SIL's, I ended up just taking jars instead of cooking stuff there and Luke was eating loads. Gave him some home cooked stuff today and he cried
My niece and SIL cried when we left. Think Jacob might be a bit off tomorrow when he realises all the people have gone......
Right, off to watch EE.

bumpsnowjustplump · 27/07/2009 20:40

PT thanks for that, I will make a note of all of those so i dont slip up.... I am doing a mix of blw and slop. So today he has sucked on some broccoli and cauliflower. I am quiet impressed he picked them up and found his mouth... and also had a couple of teaspoons of baby rice just to get used to spoon and different textures...

Tomorrow we have banana.... yum....

bumpsnowjustplump · 27/07/2009 20:49

THOM thank you for the advice i am really pleased about that because I went to use it to mix up weaning foods etc so 6 - 12 months is great..

littleboyblue · 28/07/2009 08:29

bumps Hope you had a better night????

We are out today to buy ds1's birthday pressies for next week. Can't believe he'll be 2 and Luke will be 6 months! Flying by isn't it?

bumpsnowjustplump · 28/07/2009 08:36

We had a bit better night but i ended up on dd's floor as she was woken at 2 by ds then tried to climb into our bed but missed and went flying.... So I laid down and held her hand and fell asleep. DP kindly brought ds into me two hours later as he needed feeding. But was better than the night before.....

We caught ds rolling over in his mosses but his legs were over the side so if we hadn't been there he would have rolled out..... So I need to get him out. The cot bed is in dd's room so on Friday night when dp is about the next day i am going to put him in his cot... But until then i am going to have to put the travel cot in our room....

We have a picnic in the park today, jessica is really looking forward to going but i am bricking it about them picking up swine flu..... But I cant keep them in all the time can I?!?

elkiedee · 28/07/2009 11:11

Coco, sorry to hear about the swine flu. Hope you're all well soon.

We went to my cousin's wedding on Saturday - what was special for me was that there were a huge number of very young children there, so our two were just part of the horde. I think my sister's late Feb 09 baby was the youngest - there was another baby born the same month there. Someone said there were 19 kids but I think it might have been even more!

C still teething and trying to crawl. He pretends to be a chilled and happy baby when we're out usually and saves the grizzling for me. He's 25 weeks already - 6 months on Monday, can't believe it.

My mum has gone to China for just over 2 weeks, am hoping her and her dh don't end up getting quarantined or anything. Really missing being able to call her up in the evenings.

We took the boys to meet dp's mum (C for the first time) last week, in the Morrisons cafe in Kings Lynn (handily near railway station, lots of car parking). Hope to go again in the autumn but after a conversation with her sister I'm afraid that we won't get the chance. At least she's seen DS1 several times and C once, and he was at his most charming, smiling and gurgly and happy and just lovely with her, they had a couple of chats and cuddles.

dinkystinky · 28/07/2009 14:22

Woohoo - Danny only woke 2 times last night (and let me get a nice chunk of sleep between those wakes) and slept till 7 today. Almost feel like a whole new woman! Has been v grizzly today while awake though so his cold is clearly still troubling him.

Sounds like you had a nice time at the wedding Elkie - and introducing C to your DP's mum too. Dont worry - Danny does the charming to the rest of the world but a grizzle bunny at home thing too. It's clearly a favourite baby trick.

Nice to "see" you back on the board THOM - was wondering how you were getting on.

PinkTulips · 28/07/2009 16:02

brought ds1 to the docs yesterday and the gp checked him out and said 'he's fine but i want to listen to your chest actually..... yep, you have a chest infection and need to be taking antibiotics' damn things are making me worse not better though and it was ds1's birthday today so i had to make his pink cake (all he wanted for his birthday was pink cake!) in a bad way and totally screwed it up thankfully all he was interested in was the icing so he wasn't pushed.

our friends have just left now and the house is trashed and the kids are loaded with sugar and cranky.... oh joy

bumps... we're doing similar with weaning as aaron wants the food but gets frustrated when he can't manage to feed himself so i mush it up a bit and help him with the spoon. if it's any comfort to you we're doing allergy weaning too as aaron is high risk due to all the intolerances and asthma and eczema... it's a pain in the bum but i'll always regret not doing it with dd as i'm convinced her intolerances wouldn't be as bad if i'd been more careful.

not that aaron's eaten anything for days, he seems to be a bit out of sorts too and isn't keen so i offer and then leave it as he's only just 24 weeks so doesn't really need it yet. he's developed a patch of eczema on the back of his head in the exact same spot as dd and ds1 had it as babies and is scratching it frantically so it's no harm him having a few days food free while i figure out if the eczema and weaning are related... he's only had banana and carrot so far, and tasted potato but spat it out so i can't think which of those could be causing it!

dinkystinky · 28/07/2009 18:48

Pink - sorry you're all still suffering so (hope the ABs get into gear and sort you out soon) and happy birthday to your DS1 for today! My DS1 is the same - only interested in the icing on cakes - must be a fledgling male mindset at work Sorry to hear about Aaron's eczema - hope its just an atopical reaction to something random and passes soon. DS1 has eczema but no sign of it yet on Danny...

OP posts:
SweetTalkinWoman · 28/07/2009 20:15

Was just stopping in quickly to catch up while the broccoli is steaming! We are seeing a dietician tomorrow with Sam so will share any general allergy advice we are given, but fear you are right, PT, a bit of a pain, but worth it in the long run.

Sorry no chance to "chat" properly, but catch you all later !

bumpsnowjustplump · 28/07/2009 21:21

Evening everyone...

We had a lovely day. DS ate banana sticks at the park (well when I say ate he held them and found his mouth but i dont think very much got swallowed.) Then tonight he had a stick of broccoli and a stick of carrot which he did eat and fed himself then I gave him 2 spoonfuls of pureed apple and he gulped it down.....

He is asleep in the travel cot and went straight to sleep so i hope that it is a good sign...

bumpsnowjustplump · 29/07/2009 08:40

morning all. DS went down at 8 but woke up at 1 this morning and was up every hour and a half from then until I finally gave up at 6 and got up. DP has a plan!! He doesn't think ds can possiably need feeding that often so at the weekend he is going to take ds every other time he wakes and try to rock him back to sleep. He thinks that by removing the food source (ie me) then he may just go back to sleep without feeding. WHat do you all think? Could this work? What if he his hungry?
