Milo sleeps for about 20 mins twice during the day too - hes been like that from about six weeks, and he wakes up at the drop of a hat. Funny thing is that he sleeps so soundly at night and doesnt wake up that easily.

LLB 5 7oz feeds dont sound that drastic - Milo has about that and they are usually 8oz fees (plus a jar or two of baby organix as im slowly but surely weaning him)

Bumps every baby is different and i hope your lo will sort out sleeping soon enough - will keep my fingers crossed for you as it is very hard if you have night after night of broken sleep so i do sympathise.

Elkiedee MOS is right - your never too old really (as long as nature permits) I do worry about having another one with previous health probs but then again i really really dont want Milo to grow up like an only child - i did as my eldest sibling is 21 years older than me and its just like being an only child - will have to see what next year brings anyway.

A question for you ladies - i know its probably paranoid but Milo is hell bent on sleeping on his stomach now all of the time - i know you are supposed to leave them on their stomachs if they roll on them but i hate it and he seems to sleep with his face stuffed into the mattress. I still keep his Snuza Halo clipped to his nappy but if it went off it would be muffled under his stomach now he is sleeping that way. I suppose there isnt anything that you can do is there to encourage them to keep sleeping on their backs? Im not really sure as he keeps turning over no matter how many times i right him on to his back?

littleboyblue · 15/07/2009 18:53

rosie Thanks, that's good then. It just seems like alot, but if that's about right, then good. Just feels like I'm always feeding him!
The risks drop now that he can roll over himself. Can he get from front to back too? If he is determined to sleep on his front, there might not be anything to be done about it........

Had a nice day again. Just been to play-group at the childrens centre, very quiet. Because Luke has solid dinner at about 4pm, I bought a pouch of that Ella's kitchen stuff, and he ate the whole thing! Then washed it down with 6oz of milk, the greedy piggy!

rosieposey · 15/07/2009 19:23

Bless him he sounds like he has a lovely appetite. Milo is a bit of a monkey with this weaning malarky as when i give him savoury he isnt that enthusiastic but if i break out the fruit or a baby rice pudding he wolfs the lot and milk besides. If its spinach and potato though which i tried yesterday he makes the most awful face lol and wont have more than 4 or so spoonfuls.

Yeah i kind of thought that there wasnt much i could do about him sleeping on his front, he can roll from one way to another but doesnt in his cot as he just seems to prefer sleeping on his front. As he is 5 months now i know i shouldnt be worrying so much but you do dont you?

littleboyblue · 15/07/2009 20:25

Yes rosie It never stops does it? (worry)
Todays dinner was by far the most he has eaten solid wise in 1 sitting. Must be odd after being so used to having all food from a bottle or nipple though.
Think I'm going to give Luke a weaning spoon to play with through the day, give him the chance to get used to it in his mouth. And his eye, up his nose and wherever else he manages to poke and prod it!

dinkystinky · 15/07/2009 21:18

Evening all.

Rosie - DS1 started rolling over and sleeping on his tummy at around 7 months. We used to flip him onto his back but he'd always wake up and flip on to his tummy again - so we gave up and let him sleep on his tummy. If that's the way he wants to sleep - and it works for him - go for it.

Bumps - Danny isnt really in a routine yet either - I just follow his cues. He sleeps for around 40 minutes in the morning then sometimes a catnap of 20 minutes later on and a longer sleep of an hour to an hour and a half at lunch time (he is an early riser) and sometimes a nap in the late afternoon or otherwise just has several catnaps through the day - and he doesnt sleep through at night either but is getting better with the night wakings for food (being those where he doesnt self settle) down to one or two at between 6.30 and 5.30 when he starts his day again. For now that is. Remember everything - even the good stages - is just a phase. Pluto - Danny started self settling much better once he moved into his own room so am sure that will help with reducing the night wakings.

Elkie - sorry to hear that C is teething badly. I hope he's feeling a bit happier now.

LBB - sounds like you've had a v productive day. Thanks to the wonders of our local council and their predilection for digging up streets both boys can now pretty much sleep through anything if they're tired enough - though still havent dared try hoovering around their rooms while they are sleeping.

Good day here too (despite the rubbish weather) - took Danny and DS1 to DS1's playgroup today and again Danny loved seeing all the other older kids (and sucking on toys) and then ambled on home after lunch out and playdate with a neighbour and her baby this afternoon. DS1 is over 3 and still needs at least an hour as a lunchtime nap most days (he gets really ratty when he misses a couple of naps in a row and is a nightmare in the evenings when he doesnt sleep during the day) - thank god he's got morning sessions at preschool in September so that we dont have to go through too much overtired preschooler hell in the immediate future.

Morning.
Think Luke is getting the hang of this eating business. He had loads of baby cereal for breakfast too. Yay. I might start lunch over weekend as planned.......we shall see, he does seem happier now there's more grub being offered, and I'm finding the whole routine thing easier now too. Such a relief to be at this stage. Love it!

Off to a friends this afternoon for a playdate, although it'll be at the time I've been encouraging the 2 hour nap, nevermind.

PinkTulips · 16/07/2009 09:35

hey, just posting to mark my place, this thread is disappearing from my threads i'm on

rushed off my feet, hopefully things will be calmer at the weekend

bumpsnowjustplump · 16/07/2009 10:25

quick post but just wanted you all to look on my profile... pmsl she chose it and now she has to eat it!!!!!!!!!!! I think I will be having half of that dont you.... Toddler lead weaning or what....

littleboyblue · 16/07/2009 11:32

bumps cute!
Ds1 is just having his lunch and then we're heading to smoking clinic, I just have to check in so they can see I'm still alive and doing ok.......

OMG, Luke is wearing 6-9 months, and today's outfit looks a bit small!!!!!! It's bad of me not to change him isn't it? But if that's small most of it will be, so will have to chuck the 9-12 month stuff in washing machine and he'll have to look unloved until they are washed and dry

rosieposey · 16/07/2009 18:02

Ahh cute picture bumps - thats a big ole portion for such a little girl lol.

Yukky weather here today - what happened to summer? I am glad its cooler but this rain is making me think of Autumn again.

How is everyones weaning going? Milo is very keen to say the lease. There seems to be no stopping him now!

littleboyblue · 16/07/2009 19:30

That's great news rosie I managed to get more of today's dinner down his top than in his mouth! lol

littlesez · 16/07/2009 20:33

helllooooooooooo!

God all this talk of weaning, does that mean i ahve to think about it now, i was kinda hoping i could just BF forever

only joking i am looking forward to the next stage of motherhood. settling down nicely and being a lot more chilled about everything. Im ok as long as other people stop asking stupid questions like

is she good?

Anyway just a quick hello to all you lovelies
xxx

elkiedee · 17/07/2009 00:21

littlesez, I find "is he a good baby?" a really irritating question, and said to my stepdad's wife a few weeks ago, "yes, he's very good at being a baby". And I've no intention of starting to wean until August.

littleboyblue · 17/07/2009 04:31

littlesez I hate that question too. Don't worry about the weaning, you don't have to think about it or try it until you are both ready. Each new stage of motherhood brings new worries and new joys though, I love watching them tackle each new hurdle.
elkie yes, like when my dad said "why does he always cry??" and it's quite obvious isn't it? Because he is a baby and that is what they do.

Not really sure why I am up! Must get back to bed before one of the boys sense I am awake.........

PinkTulips · 17/07/2009 10:53

littlesez... so with you on hating the 'is he good' question..... i've been very tempted to respond 'no actually he's evil incarnate, we're hoping to beat it out of him though'

we're happily exclusive bf-ing as well, have offered him bits of food to play with and he likes holding them but has no interest in mouthing them so i'm confidant he's not ready yet.... i was told the other day i the pet shop 'my god that's a well fed baby!' so i'm pretty sure he's not suffering without solids

we had him on his tummy last night and he attempted a bit of a commando crawl but then overturned himself onto his back and started giggling... was very funny

SweetTalkinWoman · 17/07/2009 16:07

Hello - been a rubbish poster I know....

Weaning not happening in this house yet either, although I had Sam weighed this morning and he's dropped from the 91st to the 50th centile over the past month, so he may need something more that the Neocate formula. He's only taking about 5oz each bottle, but of course wants feeding more regularly - I can't keep up with all the washing and sterilising.

Our laptop is being really annoying - the space bar doesn't work unless you really hit it so typing is a noisy affair at the moment.

Washing machine was fixed on Wednesday - engineer was here for 5 mins. A kirby grip had wedged itself in the pump propeller stopping it turning... I can't blame anyone else for leaving it in a pocket .

Bumps we have no routine either with Sam. It's all pretty dependent on what time hedecides to start the day - 5am this week ! Generally he can only manage a max of 2 hours awake and then needs a nap. This can last from between half and hour to an hour, then bed time is around 6.30pm or so. I'm hoping that once solids are introduced at regular timings, we might get some sort of routine worked out.

Thanks for the birthday wishes for DD. Unfortunately she had a stinking cold and just wanted cuddles, but that was quite nice. Yesterday, for the first time, she stroked her baby brother's tummy and said "alright, Baby Sam?". It melted my heart!!!

Better dash as haven't done any of the things I had planned today. Hope everyone is well?

mslucy · 17/07/2009 16:56

STW Stan's dropped down the chart a bit - even though everyone says what a big baby he is when they look at his chubby cheeks and thunderous thighs.
The charts are there to see that babies are growing within a normal range - there is room for variation and they don't grow at a uniform speed. Yes I am stating the blindingly obvious but sometimes you can forget this simple fact when you're stressed out or have worries about feeding.
Stan is still firmly clamped to the breast - I had to work outside the house last week and he reluctantly took a bottle but it's so not what he wants. He just wants mummy's boobies and I am totally knackered - esp as I have loads on at the moment.
He quite likes sucking a slice of cold cucumber and licking apples and melons but doesn't actually want to eat anything.

Sleep wise he catnaps in the day and wakes either once or twice at night for a quick feed. He seems to have stopped biting quite as much, though this may be the calm before the storm as more teeth are on their way.

oooggs · 17/07/2009 19:03

fully weaned here!!!!

Milk 7am
breakfast 8am
sleep 9am
lunch 11.30am
sleep 12.30pm
milk 2.30pm
tea 4.30pm
milk 6.30pm & bed

He is one of the oldest though and is 6mths on Monday - he has fallen into that routine and it fits in with school runs and nursery pick ups etc...

He often feeds about 3am as well. Is a very happy, content and placid baby - unlike the other 3

oooggs · 17/07/2009 19:04

non of that is set in stone and sometime it varies (alot)

dinkystinky · 17/07/2009 20:05

Evening all. LittleSez - nice to see you on the board. I get asked if Danny is a good baby too - I generally just grin and bear it and say yes, he's an excellent baby . Though today he's been an excellent grizzlebunny - crying nonstop since 3ish - may be teething, may be a cold, may be just being a baby and this morning's ridiculously early 4.50 start catching up with him As Pink says, dont stress about weaning - it'll happen when it happens. And as Oooggs shows, all of a sudden it clicks and works brilliantly well

Bumps - that photo made me chuckle. How did she do with it in the end?

STW - happy birthday to little O. It sounds like she was so sweet with Sam. I hope she recovers from her cold soon. And dont worry about Sam dropping down percentages - DS1 did too from 75th to 50th percentile and am sure Danny is doing the same too now (even though people keep commenting on how big he is for 5 months).

Weaningwise Danny loves watching us eat - most intently - like a dog begging for food - but I dont think he's ready yet. We'll be starting in August when he turns 6 months if he's ready - I've already warned my sister (who'll be giving him his first taste of rice at his rice ceremony in August) that it'll either be a hit or gag occasion.. At the rice ceremony they do a ritual which involves putting a tray of gold items infront of the baby and whatever they pick up will indicate what their future will hold. I picked up a pen (so study involved), my sister picked up a golden apple (so home-making involved). DS1 picked up a gold bracelet (which DH is still trying to live down among his friends - means bling will be involved ) - must start training Danny to pick up anything other than bracelet shaped objects now....

PinkTulips · 17/07/2009 20:50

god i'm knackered...andthe kids are still up

they had bouncy castles at summer camp today so were hyper when i collected them. then we drove to a town 45 mins away to meet a friend and her ds for soft play. aaron whinged the whole time, wouldn't feed and just wanted to be carried... he was hysterical by the time we were leaving but i had promised ds1 he could go to the toyshop next door to pick his birthday presents and aaron fell asleep in his carseat while i hauled us all around in there for half an hour. he woke up by the time we got to tescos and the little sod was all giggles and fun the whole waty round in the trolly..... unfortunately ds1 was having a nervous breakdown and dd was trying to give me one so poor baby and his smiles went ignored.

didn't get home til 7 but at least we had a productive day! now if i can just get them to bed without bloodshed we'll be sorted....

elkiedee · 17/07/2009 21:00

STW, C's dropped to well below 50th centile, though health visitor thought he looked very alert and contented and was impressed by how active he was - he flips over and looks set to take off across the room every time I put him down. She did say something about maybe I should start weaning, but I made it quite clear I'm waiting until August - it is only just over a couple of weeks away now.

Cocodrillo · 17/07/2009 21:52

bloody hell pink get those kids to bed, you need a break.

LOL at the bling, dinky.

elkie, impressed at how active DS is!

swampster · 17/07/2009 23:41

LOL at evil incarnate, pink.

DS3 mooches at our food so I let him gnaw on a banana, a piece of avocado or some sweet potato - iI don't really think of it as weaning though, breastmilk will be his primary source of nourishment for a while yet but he does love to be part of mealtimes. His nappies have been exciting.

Coco, it was great meeting you and your smalls. You are lovely and strangely familiar.

littleboyblue · 18/07/2009 01:04

STW How sweet re O and Sam. Is heart melting stuff isn't it?
Jacob now blows raspberries on Luke's stomach and they both really laugh. Makes the tough times worth it though
oooggs That's great! I might try my Luke on lunch too tomorrow, alougth the other meals are hit and miss, think he just needs practise with the spoon iyswim. He is happier since solids have come in, but must take a bit of getting used to with the different technique needed to eat iyswim.

Luke does the weirdest thing when he is on his front, he crosses his ankles over and lifts his bum really high, so his ankles are off the floor too, reaches for something infront of him, and then shoots backwards. Very funny to watch, but he doesn;t like it, he gets a bit stressed.......
