Thanks daisy, the hv's are lovely but I don't feel they answer my specific questions just give me a general answer.
I can't force milk into him when he doesn't want it so it's frustrating when they tell me the number of ounces he 'should' be having. I wish I was still bf then they wouldn't be able to say anything!

I can see he is doing fine and we have a good diet so he won't be brought up on rubbish. I think i just need to relax about it. Just been reading aitch's very intetsting blog.

Ceebee74 · 25/06/2009 15:03

Choc I would ignore your HV too - the Hamster would happily live on fruit purees and yoghurts too !! I do give him savoury stuff first and he will eat some and then make out he has had enough - but as soon as the fruit puree appears, his mouth is open straight away and the whole lot goes down Ds1 was never a 'hungry' baby and didn't drink that much milk tbh - he is fine of course and, still, 3 years later, happily plodding along the 50th centile that he was born on!!

Daisy if you get any ideas of what to give on toast or ricecakes, I would be grateful. I can only think of philly tbh and that is not very interesting is it?? Poor Hamster must be sick of it by now - he loves ricecakes so really want to make them more interesting for him. I am guessing he is too young for peanut butter (I think DS1 was 9 months when he started eating it)?

tegan · 25/06/2009 16:07

choc My cold is better but i now have horrendous coldsores around my nose which are making my face hurt.

O has started to have longer naps too, i just wish his night time sleep was better.

O seems to be right off food at the mo but we are having wedges for tea tonught which he loves.

sparkletoes · 25/06/2009 16:08

Thanks for the hem tip Pinky!!

Am sure something better job wise will be around the corner for your DH Vbab..

Was also thinking of u Buzz

Totally echo the other there Pinky you are doing a fab job... one bad picture does not an unhappy boy make. I also remember photo day at school to be a bit manic with the teachers barking at us to look the right way, now SAY CHEESE!! Not exactly relaxed!! Please don't worry.

Chocgal every HV I have ever met has given a vague response!! Think they train with politicians! I read once that 'food is for fun until they are one'. My mum said I was a very fussy baby whereas her friend's wee boy (2 weeks older) ate anything!! However I was never a fussy eater as a child. Your DS is only a couple/few months into weaning after all there is plenty of time for him to develop his palate! My DS2 is much hungrier and therefore easier to wean than DS1 was.. some babies just need more energy I think (DS2 is also a more 'active' baby).

PinkyMinxy · 25/06/2009 17:17

Thank you everyone. I am going througha bit of a patch and I always worry that my children are not happy, then I worry that i am putting pressure on them to be happy..gah.

HV pleased with mimi, though she wants me to put her on her tummy more. She's following (well baesd upon 2 weigh ins the 75th centile, at 8.84kg/19.7lbs so doing ok, I think. SHe passed al the other tests fine. SHe thinks I should keep on with the abs since it's just her poos have gone runnier, not that she has the runs, IYSWIM. She was also impressed with DD1'S speech and expert lego robot building!

Also got toothbrush big tube toothpaste and tommee tippee cup with three different lids. So worth the trip!

Hope you have got some of those nappies listed, daisy

I'm glad the day went as well as it could, LB I'm sure you are a great support to your friend.x

chocolategal · 25/06/2009 19:25

Thanks everyone for your reassurance. For tea tonight DS ate almost a whole pouch of ellas beef stew and a sweet!
Glad you got on well at HV pinky, Mimi sounds like she is doing well

vbab78 · 25/06/2009 20:06

pinky please dont feel bad about your DS photo. You are an amazing mum and like everyone else has said all the other kids will have not been smiling at some point. Kids never smile when you want them to!
twinkling yes men do get PMT but the "P" stands for permanent.
ladybuzz glad DS had a great b'day . Also that the funeral went as well as it could have. Do they know what happened yet? Would have thought you would never get over losing a child but not knowing "what" would make it harder.

Had good day today. DS a little rowdy at times but handled it. DS and A had their bath together tonight and both loved it. A seems to be a natural water babe and doesnt mind water in her face. It seems to egg her on to splash her big brother more. They were both splashing each other, stopping, laughing and continuing with the water fight . So amazing seeing the bond they have. They were also playing together in DS room before and after the bath. A seems so content in DS room just playing on the floor.

twinklingfairy · 25/06/2009 20:30

My two are the same vbab, DS just watches DD with fasination and awe. Then grins.
She has taken to manically laughing, in an attempt to make him grin at her. It is so sweet but also a bit of a horrid repetative noise. shrug, whatcha gonna do.

If DS follows the 25th centile, as he is, he will be over a year before he hits 20llb.
What makes of wraps do you have that will take him up to that point daisy
I am just thinking, if I am to take your nappies (which I am doing, by the way. Can't resist) then I will probbly need a couple more wraps, at least.
I am using Airflow ones just now, M/L is the best one I have.
You don't happen to have any, unlisted yet, do ya?

OMG!! hiccups!! Just took a lovely swig of my alcyhol fee beck now the hiccups are wrenching my body. Holding breath totally has not worked! Arrgh
also at myself for being a baby over my hiccups.

LolaBella · 25/06/2009 21:08

Oh i think i could make 20th meet up in Harrogate too . Be great to meet some of you ladies.

Ladybuzz lovely to hear that you gave your friend's little boy such a special send off.

Re 8 month check around here - i don't think we have one. HV has not been in contact for ages. I have not had O weighed at Health centre for such a long time as one of our local baby groups has scales but is it normal that no-one checks in every now and again? Particularly for first time mums

O very very nearly pilled himself up to standing today in his cot. I fear life may soon be much more crazy and hazardous (sp?)

vbab78 · 25/06/2009 21:12

Really sorry but must have missed the north meet up post. What are the details?

Ceebee74 · 25/06/2009 21:12

Evening

Pinky glad Mimi's 8-month check went well - I quite look forward to the checks tbh. Did you get any books aswell? I keep meaning to mention that we really must meet for lunch at the Traff Centre (and anyone else who wants to join us) before the summer hols - what do you think? Sometime in the next 2 weeks??

Buzz glad DS1 had a good birthday - did he like the bike?

Vbab Ds1 swings between playing with the Hamster really nicely and calmly to torturing playing roughly with him This morning, DS1 got up at 5.45 and was fidgeting around in my bed, the Hamster woke up just after 6 so DS1 got up and said he was going to read him a book (i.e. climb in his cot and play with him) so I let him but with all the doors open so I could hear if the Hamster starting crying - DS1 sat in the cot for half an hour playing peekaboo, 'reading' him a couple of books and just generally playing with him - made me very (and almost made up for the fact that, last night, he upturned the inflatable playnest that the Hamster was sitting in causing the Hamster to bang his head on the fireplace!!)

Ceebee74 · 25/06/2009 21:14

Juanitad sorry, missed your post earlier. the 20th is no good for me as I don't really want to bring Ds1 with me but go ahead on that day as it suits everyone else

juanitad · 25/06/2009 21:28

Lolabella and barbs, could you do 21st or 22nd? Would be nice if ceebee could join too, if not we'll go ahead on 20th and see ceebee at next meet up.

OP posts:
LolaBella · 25/06/2009 21:32

Juanitad i can do either
Apart from getting married, not much on that week

LackaDAISYcal · 25/06/2009 21:33

Ceebee, my DD will be there for a playmate for DS1??????

LackaDAISYcal · 25/06/2009 21:37

twinks, I have some totsbots star wraps; the new style ones, which are just fab!

Given that my fat bloater little cherub with his thunder ample thighs grew out of them at 4 months I can't quite comprehend them fitting any child until over a year old!!!!!

I'll email you some pics.

Ceebee74 · 25/06/2009 21:45

Daisy I think Harrogate is probably just that little bit too far with both of them (and I haven't been outdoors with the pair of them by myself for more than a couple of hours so not sure I could cope ) Honestly, it is fine for you to all meet on the 20th if it is better for you all

PinkyMinxy · 25/06/2009 21:52

My little DD1 said tonight "I love you very very much mummy' and gave me a big kiss. It wholly made up for the fact that she only went to sleep 5 minutes ago .
She just won't go to sleep atthe moment,I don't know what to do. I'm guessing it's just a phase, but I am sooo tired!

They have moved on from being tortoises and now play mainly at being caterpillars going into and emmerging from their cocoons as butterflies. It's very funny

I'm loving all these stories of siblingsplaying witht their baby brothers and sisters- it si so wirth it, isn't it? DS was makign water squirt up out of a bottle in the bath tonight and Mimi found it hilarious.

Ceebee a trip to the Trafford centre would be really cool. any day except tuesday or thursday next week would suit me, and any day except tuesday the following week (that's when I go to therapist).

I am quite free and easy now that DD1 has totally eschewed Tumbletots and Rhythmn and Rhyme. I think I will sign mimi up for them for after christmas, as DD1 should be starting nursery then and I would like to give mimi the chance to see if she likes it (DS loved them both, and DD1 loved it until she turned 2).

choc glad dinner went well

lolabella I am quite suprised there is no 8 month check. You see the hv and nurse at 1 year anyway for jabs, so it sounds to me like some places are making cuts. As regards first time mums, our local baby massage groups were for first time mums only and they were run by one of the HV, but if you didn't go to that you just had to take yourself to baby clinic. There is only one a week here and yes, you guessed it, it'as on a tuesday! TBH if I am worried about my DC I take them to the GP, HV would not be my first choice. Though thye seem quite nice. The one I had for DS was a dragon. WHen I said DS was not going to nursery, she said 'well how are you going to socialise the child??" in this kind of meldramatic tone she had.Lol. It's very funny when you see just how outgoing DS is.

Sorry I am waffling on.

I feel much better now. WHat a difference a day can make

Ceebee74 · 25/06/2009 22:02

Pinky aw bless your DD1 Is she still having a nap during the day? Maybe she is ready to drop that (although I am sure you have already thought of that )

Right, anyone else want to meet me and Pinky for lunch at the Traff Centre in the next couple of weeks - let me know before we set the date

ellielou02 · 25/06/2009 22:06

Hi all just checking in will catch up tomorrow, thanks for all your kind words for my mums cousin we are taking comfort from the fact that he isnt suffering at the hands of those people any more.
ladybuzz was thinking about you and your friend yesterday.

LackaDAISYcal · 25/06/2009 22:22

At teatime tonight we had some "adventures with linguine". Photos on FB! It was a frustrating time as he knew what he wanted to do with it, but everytime he managed to get some to his mouth it just fell out and he was getting really annoyed. I have a video clip but no idea how to load it.....

LackaDAISYcal · 25/06/2009 22:29

pinky, my DD is terrible at going to sleep at the minute. It's a lot better since putting her back in the cot though as she now just lies there chuntering to herself rather than deconstructing her bedroom!!

Can I come to the Trafford centre as well? I know rutho starts work soon, so maybe she can make the TC next week as well?

I have drunk several glasses of red wine tonight and feel fished as a part. Just realised I haven't had any tea

PinkyMinxy · 25/06/2009 22:48

lol Daisy I gave my DC linguine tonight! Mimi loved it- broccoli, meatballs and tomato and basil sauce- she found it all very exciting!

ChocOrange05 · 25/06/2009 22:52

Great FB photos Daisy - I love the running commentary too!

Does anyone know if I can give DS scallops?

barbareebaa · 25/06/2009 23:17

Hello!
Harrogate meetup - I'm easy, can do 21st or 22nd July. Would be lovely to meet CeeBee.
Pinky sorry missed the post about Mimi being poorly, hope she gets better quickly. By the way, you're clearly a wonderful Mum!
Daisy that book's great isn't it? I really felt I needed a bit of guidance. Was also inspired to video W today, really enjoying giving him new stuff to try.
Sorry, I feel I've missed loads of people
William sleeping really well with me but was starting to wonder how things would pan out in the new house sleepwise. Currently DH on sofa
I'm now able to feed W to sleep on the bed, so I can sneak off, but when he gets more mobile, it's going to be dangerous, so think when we move, we will just put our mattress on the floor and W's mattress next to it with a bed guard. Hopefully that means we can all sleep in one happy mess until W decides its time to break out! I never expected this would be our sleeping arrangements, but it works, even if no-one else thinks we're doing it right.
Anyhoo, hope everyone's having a peaceful night, and Daisy gets her tea
