Morning

We had a good night here for a change, feeling quite good today!
How you doing today coolkat & ladybuzz?

LadyBuzz · 16/06/2009 08:39

Hi all, feeling a little better today thanks Choc off to spend some more time with my friend, just trying to keep her occupied really! hopefully they will have had some answers yesterday and start to find out what happened as so far the post mortem has not shown anything conclusive .

vbab I have checked on my 2 constanly since sunday night too.

Has there been anything decided for the northern meet up as yet?

Coolkat how are you feeling today?

Daisy is DH any better? - LOVE the new hair by the way tis fab!

Pinky eww bug farm! That is my worst nightmare with having boys - I would be releasing mine back to the wild too

Hi everyone else!

Ceebee74 · 16/06/2009 09:03

Morning all

buzz that is my worst nightmare with boys aswell - particularly as DS1 has started to pick up any insect he finds and hand it to me (dead or alive) As I am an arachnaphobe I am dreading the day he picks up a spider and gives it to me!!! He actually picked up a bumble bee the other day (we are not sure if it was dead or alive when he picked it up - it was dead by the time he finished) and posted it out the letterbox

Right just stuffed myself with a HUGE bowl of frosties and a slice of toast with peanut butter - and am going to treat myself to a Mars Bar once I am allowed to eat again

RE naps - the Hamster tends to have a nap from 9 for anything upto 2 hours. He will then have a nap 2 hours after he woke from that one - again, can be upto 2 hours (sometimes even longer ) and then depending on what time he wakes up from that nap, he may just have time for a catnap around 5.30ish - bed sometime after 7. Although I do try and be flexible, if he doesn't have all this sleep, he is grumpy as anything!!! And if we are out, he struggles to settle for his naps in the pram and when he does go to sleep, it is usually only for 30-45 minutes at a time. The boy definitely likes his own bed

vbab78 · 16/06/2009 10:15

PLEASE HELP! Cant stop being hungry . Had 2 slices of toast at 6.30am. Just had 2 packets of tesco value crisp (trying to justify it by making out they are small) BUT STILL HUNGRY. Ok i've been up since 5.25am with Alyssa but this is stupid.

LackaDAISYcal · 16/06/2009 11:00

morning all; another beeeeooootiful day here. Managed ten minutes of gardening before DD took her wellies off and got her socks soaking wet and filty and bumble started crying so we are back inside!

DH much better this morning; it has receded a bit and is less red looking and doesn't feel so hot to the touch so he has gone to work. I'm still a bit concerned, but the ABs seems to be starting to work so fingers crossed this will sort it.

Vbab I think having been up since 6.30 you are definately due something else to eat, protein fills you up for longer apparently; also make sure you are drinking plenty as thirst can often be mistaken for hunger. If I feel hungry, I have a drink and if still hungry after ten minutes or so then I'll eat.....well in an ideal world anyway.

thanks for the comments on my hair. I didn't have time to style it before rushing out this morning and it has passed the easy to mange test as it still looks OK with a lick of styling spray and then left to dry on it's own.

My boy is very grumpy today...I wish these teeth would hurry up.

vbab78 · 16/06/2009 11:36

lacks - glad DH getting better.
your gardening 10 mins sounds familiar. We have a massive back garden that seems to need cutting all the time (and only I do it). When I try it takes at least 10 times longer when kids there. Then I have to do the other gardens all the way around our house (corner plot).

ME Really organised this morn. Dropped Ryan at nursery 8am went down town to pick up missed parcel from sorting office and shop for DS b'day pressies to get home and missed another parcel for his b'day on Thurs. F**K! Now got to go back to sorting office tomorrow with 2 kids in tow :-( and hope the parcel is there ready for Thurs. On a good note though the parcel is a Barney dance mat (DS Barney mad). It's cool! Had lots of fun testing it and Alyssa likes it too. She loves watching Barney spin around and talk.

Alyssa just did a massive fart! She is making me laugh today. I love our Mon and Tues AMs together when DS at nursery. Better check she hasnt followed through.

vbab78 · 16/06/2009 11:37

Oh lacks will try drinking more water as never really drink. But I have already had my lunch sandwich. EEK!

Ceebee74 · 16/06/2009 11:43

Vbab if I had 2 slices of toast at 6.30, I would be needing a second breakfast at 9.00 without a doubt - give yourself a break woman

Love the sound of the Barney mat - DS1 is getting a bike for his birthday and we are going to Thomasland for the day - can't wait

Daisy glad your DH's arm is better - phew!! I guess the last thing you need is another operation in the family eh?

Am trying to keep myself occupied to forget about food!

vbab78 · 16/06/2009 11:47

ceebee - thanks . We are hoping to go to Twycross Zoo on Thurs (DS b'day). Any ideas ladies on places to go if the weather is bad?

LackaDAISYcal · 16/06/2009 12:04

Thomasland? where's that then ceebee?

vbab, try with added squash etc if you struggle with drinking water.

One child asleep (bribed with the thought of No stay and play if she doesn't have a snooze) and the other one vaguely content. I'm off to start a thread about getting him to take more milk in the day.

Ceebee74 · 16/06/2009 12:15

It's a mini theme park inside Drayton Manor - we went last year for DS1's birthday and it was fab. There are about 10 rides all based on Thomas characters plus you can ride Thomas or Percy down to the zoo part of the theme park. Plus you have also paid to use the rest of Drayton Manor theme park aswell so quite good value.

vbab the only place I can think of that is inside is Cadbury's World in Birmingham - but the weather forecast is quite good for Thursday (I think) so you should be good

tegan · 16/06/2009 12:20

book marking

I promise i will try to catch up later this evening and fill you in on my sad little life

Rosa · 16/06/2009 13:07

Quick post from the beach - made it ok traffic was bad but we did all the back routes and missed it all.
Minirosa took ages to settle in and still is not so sure about it all including her travel cot.
As we are all in one big room with a half dividing wall am having to tryu to co ordinate naps as each wakes the other up and both are horrible when overtired.Dh was here for Sunday but left Sun pm but coped with lugging 2 dd's and all beach stuff there and back bour but have not braved the pool yet ..there is a childrens area but there are some big kids that do lots of splashing in it.
LBuzz how terrible about your friend as said everybodies nightmare.
Daisy glad your dh is getting a bit better hope its sorts out.
Coolcat if you are in real pain as its sounds you are and its not getting better can you not call the gp again and said the drops are not working?
Right have to disconnect as the key thing is in blocks of 15 mins but I hope to catch upsoon .....

coolkat · 16/06/2009 14:04

Hi Ladies

Feeling slightly better today, still going tomorrow to get oral AB's.

Sorry DH is home in the evening but I realise I am lucky as he usually only works 2 days then 2 nights and then he has 4 days off. DH came home early yest as we had a storm and they are not allowed to train if there is one still I was mega happy to see him and went to bed early.

Swelling slowly subsiding, eye still dodgy though!

Hope your having a good time Rosa

Vbab you have not stopped by the sounds of it so your bound to be hungry. x See your coming to my neck of the woods on Thurs. Twinlakes in my town has lots inside if weather bad.

Daisy hope DH ok. x

Choc sounds like CP was good. x

Becca driving me mad, I am sure its teeth, she is also off her food. x

PinkyMinxy · 16/06/2009 14:09

Hi all
Glad DH's arm is getting better, Daisy. And I agree, younew do looks very foxy!

Have bought some of that dry shampoo stuff, friend recommened it to me, for those times when I haven't had time to wash my hair in the morning [scummy mummy]

Vbab have you ever been to Eureka? It's a fab day out. Blue Planet is always good for us, not sure if that's too far from you.

ceebee hope all went well.x

PinkyMinxy · 16/06/2009 14:11

Oh I see, Pinky missing the point again, you wanted somewhere in the midlands near to Drayton Manor. Please ignore me!lol

twinklingfairy · 16/06/2009 16:00

Argh!! DS is now up every hour and a half at night!
Has only had one, hour long, nap today. Got 20 mins shut eye on he way home from mums but woke as soon as he was in the house is now in a mega good mood, so not likely to sleep any time soon.
He needs more daytime sleep if I am ever to get him to sleep through the night
Bought the 'no cry sleep solution' book. Day one and already I am just no good!!
I am just so fed up with it, but won't put him in his own bed, in DDs room! just won't.
Don't belive it will make a jot of difference to his sleep but will mean I spend zero in mine and DD gets disrupted. Also what sense does it make to make him scream and cry? He is one determined little bugger. He won't be one to give in after an hour. Think more, 2 or 3!!!! Then only cos he is exhausted and frightened and confused cos mummy has abandoned him

poor me, sorry.
Just feeling at a loss as to what to do next.
I will continue to try this book thing but I just despair

vbab78 · 16/06/2009 18:48

rosa - wishing you a lovely time.
Thanks for the suggestions for Ds b'day on Thurs. coolkat - will have a look at twinlakes. pinky - My dad mentioned Eureka as it happens as a back up plan if we need somewhere in doors. Nice to know someone has been and likes it.
twinkling - sorry to hear you are down love. hugs and flapjack coming your way. Dont know what to suggest really. Could the prob be teething, hunger or something up with the little mite? What about a chat with your HV or even a visit to the doctor just to get him checked over?

sparkletoes · 16/06/2009 19:26

Ah Twinkling I am the same with my DS2!

He is also still up at nights at least once but often 2 or 3+ times... I have put it down to teething, growth spurts, colds etc but know it is not hunger as DH has got up with him and not fed him (obv!) and it made no difference...

Last night he was up at 10pm , 2:15, 5 and then finally fell asleep at 6:30. I had not slept (grr) since his 2:15 wakening so was a zombie by 6:30. Then just as I was about to nod off.. DS1 got up at 6:45. To cap it all DS1 had also been up at 5:30?? ...

I am going to try another drastic change to our set up and am going to put DS2 in DH's office in the travel cot. Both boys have shared a room for some time now and it hasn't really been a problem until now as they didn't seem to disturb each other. But we all need some peace now DS1 getting up too... so they will both have separate rooms tonight and DH will sleep on sofa as he has to be up mega early for work tomorrow.

This will leave me on my own with the 2 boys but am just going to have to deal with it. If DS1 gets up he is going to get a chance to go to toilet (as I know if I don't do this he will be up 5 mins later saying he needs to go). Every other time I am going to say nothing and put him back in his bed (the only method that worked when he got up before). As for DS2... who knows!

Wish me luck. Good luck with the book. I have binned the books as I found that they just made me paranoid about stuff.. I managed with DS1 without even flicking thru a book just using common sense and adapting my methods to suit and it worked fine. Didn't try Pantley's book tho...

Getting him to sleep in eve is no probs it is just getting him to stay there!! I am despairing with you lovey good luck...

phee96 · 16/06/2009 19:49

Coolkat I hope the AB work for you

Rosa Have a lovely time

Sparkle and Twinkle I hope tonight goes better for you both

Everything is going well here. We are all recovering from a horrible cold. Went to bed at 9pm on Saturday and slept until 7.30am, DH got up with A. I'm still knackered though.

A has had her 7 month assessment today. She did really well, although the HV has referred her for further hearing tests as she is a 'quiet child' and DH's half-brother is deaf I'm trying not to worry about it as I'm sure her hearing is fine.

twinklingfairy · 16/06/2009 20:14

DH had to take them away DS just would not go down and I was getting frustrated, so DH took them for a spot of shopping to give me a moment to myself.
It helped, that and eating. Must remember to do that sometimes!!

I don't think I can put it down to anything much really, this is not abnormal behaviour from DS. His norm is 2 hrs. But I have just reached the end of my tether with it all if he is only going to up the anit and decrease his sleeping time
It is just not on DS, I tell you
I know if I go to the HV she will just smile her smile which is not patronising or annoying just not any help, but then what help can she give? Some babies just don't sleep well, DS is one of them.
If anything, I can say now that she would tell me to let him shout it out. A short term shout is worth it for long term gain. But what if it is not a short term shout?
He is not unhappy or struggling with anything, just not sleeping so I think if I went to the docs they would give me that same smile.
Wish I had another room, well no I don't actually, well maybe a little.
It is just not an option, for me, to try to combine them (DD and DS)

Just put him down now. No boob to fall asleep to (that is he did not fall asleep on the boob as he has done for months) and I managed to get the dummy out of his mouth with no complaints!
Maybe I am making progress.
We will see what the night brings.

sparkletoes · 16/06/2009 20:33

Every 2 hours that is hard going... Tinytoes WAS like that to start with and has gotten better with a combination of not switching sides when feeding etc. BUT I am not used to a baby that gets up at night at all and with DS1 up aswell it is a nightmare so I am still with you on this...

As for controlled crying, I did this once with DS1 as a baby as he started getting up at nights after we moved house. However I let him cry for 5 mins, went in settled him, was prepared to let him cry again for a further 5 mins and he fell asleep after 2/3 mins. Hardly much of a controlled cry - too successful to learn anything from I feel.

I also get impression if I let DS2 cry he would go into a frenzy and it would be worse. Also don't have much option for this even in separate rooms, as we all on same floor and is not exactly sound proof.

Yorky · 16/06/2009 20:44

We have a tooth! feel slightly less like selling her!

Seconding pinky's vote for Eureka, looking forward to taking DS but want to wait till he's at least 3 I think

Good news about DHs arm Daisy, hope it gets better without op

Vbab, I am always starving too, getting a bit worried about stopping my snacking now she is feeding so much less

twinklingfairy · 16/06/2009 20:47

Yeah, thats it sparkly I did let DS cry it out one evening, in a bid to cut the 1030-11pm feed, but by 1230 he was in a right tizz and I was exhausted with going up and down the stairs every 10 mins (with one or two 20mins sleeping spells) I just thought what is the point? And to put that in with DD? I think not
That is what I mean, he is a determined little blighter!

I just kept telling myself that it would improve. 6 weeks he just shouted and shouted, but he had a hernia, 2-3 more weeks and he was getting over his op. 3-4 month, growth spurt. Between 5 and 6 he is needing his solids, now 7.5 and I am running out of excuses and am just realising hang on this just isn't getting any better. He is still no better than a newborn. In fact my friends newborn is sleeping better!!!

vbab78 · 16/06/2009 20:50

Took Alyssa to get weighed today. At 31wks old she is 15lb 13 an increase of 1lb 1oz in 6wks (8lb 2 increase since birth). But even though her weight is increasing she has dropped the growth centile thingy even more than the last few times. So after discussing with the lovely HV (diff 1 to norm) realised A hasnt been having enough milk and being that she hasnt been fab with weaning (interest and success varies) that explains it. The HV made really useful suggestions and even told me how to help A if choking. But HV did say she wasnt worried about A as she seems happy and was being very nosey. But I do need to pull my finger out and start giving her more "proper" food. Then when we got home I was eating a packet of crisp at kitchen table and A was stalking me wanting them. So I gave her a rusk whilst in her walker. IT WAS GREAT. She really enjoyed it and got the rusk EVERYWHERE. Going to be brave like lacks and give A healthy finger foods.

Oh and A did a massive wee all over the changing mat at the weighing in session . DIRTY GIRL.
