it was very freaky bumping into her, cos i didnt reconise her, and i was surprised!

she does look like what i had pictured in my head tho!

sputnik ellens nap has had to be completly removed for the same reason.
god i miss it

LackaDAISYcal · 02/06/2009 22:29

how does one get round the inconsolable tired stroppy child who hasn't had their nap though sputnik? Can you do some kind of controlled, nap for ten mins less each day? I remember a bit of this with DS1, but then he went to full time nursery and needed his afternoon nap again as he was tired from running around all morning.

DD was happy to go back in the cot after a pep talk today (probably she has realised the if she is in the cot then she isn't sharing a room with bumble and she has the "big room" to herself) and slept well this afternoon, but she still took an hour and a half to settle tonight . She has huuuuuuge baggy black shadows under her eyes and is so tired....yet still she is awake and singing. I might need to be more proactive in stopping her getting to the dregs of my diet coke and cold mugs of tea

I still haven't got DD anything for her birthday, but my car is sick so can't go anywhere.

TheNatty · 02/06/2009 22:34

yeah daisy thats our dilema, she needs the nap really cos she is miserable.

but she gets MORE miserable if she naps and then wont go to bed, and then gets up early and shes only getting a 6 hour stretch at night.

lesser of two evils.

i find painting and playdough are my saviours

Rialentless · 02/06/2009 22:36

I am cancelling the weekend of parties and BBQs DH had planned for baggins (well, DH had planned a BBQ with loads of our friends and family on Father's Day, which is also our WA - 13 years - and 2 days after baggins birthday, I was thinking friends & DHs familyone day, and my family on the other), I am thinking I might organise a big picnic at a farm with my parents and Dsis and the cousins instead (DH will hopefully be working).

Does anyone know Burton-le-Coggles? I need a campsite very close to it.

Sputnik · 02/06/2009 22:47

No I will try and shorten it, not cut it out completely. I am not totally insane! When he goes to nursery he usually sleeps less than an hour then drops of beautifully nice and early in the evening.

Sputnik · 02/06/2009 22:52

God is there really a place called Burton-le-Coggles?
I love British place names.

DD went through a long stage when she would be really grumpy after her nap, even for over an hour.

TheNatty · 02/06/2009 22:56

yeah ellens naps i cut down at first, but now even if she only sleeps half an hour (like today by mistake while we were out in the pram) she is up till 10-11pm.
so she gets a total sleep of much less, and it has a knock on effect.

never ever had this problem with thomas, he still naps and goes bed at 7pm no problem and he is three!

Rialentless · 02/06/2009 22:59

it is near Grantham sputnik. the boys want to go camping, so I was wondering about camping when we go to the wedding

DH bought me the VHS box set of the first series of Monarch of the Glen today (£1.49, I love charity shop bargains), so I may be a little distracted tonight

Rialentless · 02/06/2009 23:00

baggins had 2 naps in the car today and was in bed by 9pm, yesterday he had 2 hours on the sofa too late in the day. I think he was in bed by midnight. Sleep seems to be something my children don't need.

TheNatty · 02/06/2009 23:01

lol ria!

i would love to go camping, but not till after baby just in case i go into labour early.

am i mad to do camping and a newborn???

Rialentless · 02/06/2009 23:24

Maybe!I wonder about the sense in camping with a toddler, though I did do it with DS2 when he was about 2 1/2 (he was fine, DS1 - then 9-ish - was really stressed about sleeping out etc)

The main problem I have with camping is needing a wee in the middle of the night, and being a teensy bit scared of the dark when outside

Rialentless · 02/06/2009 23:34

can anyone help me here? No point talking to DH, it's so long since he saw his consultant he can't remember any details, and in any case he is in denial.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 03/06/2009 09:06

Personally, I think anyone who wants to go camping (in a tent) is a bit mad, even without toddlers/babies. But hey! it'd be a dull old world if we were all the same, and I admit I do like my comfort

Sorry Ria, I can't help with your questions re DH But fingers crossed for you and him.

Jamlet had a very unsettled evening until about 10.30, and was up at 6 with a temp >39 again She went back to sleep about 7 and is still asleep, but I have just made an appointment for 10.10 with the doctor, so will have to wake her in half an hour

HellHathNoFury · 03/06/2009 09:24

I BLOODY LOVE CAMPING!

I'd do it!

TheNatty · 03/06/2009 11:21

ah fury im not totally insane then..

however dont have a car, so not sure how to work it? bring a double and a single buggy and load them up?

hmmm..

LittleMissNorty · 03/06/2009 11:29

Morning

I went camping once....that was enough....I'm afraid I need to sleep in a proper bed these days.

Took my poor little baby for his jabs today ....he was good though and is currently sleeping them off. I fed him about 30 minutes beforehand - couldn't be helped really....and on the way home he puked BIG style - to the point where I had to pull over and put the hazards on as it was all in his eyes. Hit the front seat, also underneath his own seat into the base. Revolting. So he is on outfit 3 already today.

He was 16lb 11.5oz which HV said was fine, despite someone saying to me in the waiting room it was obvious he likes his food and the twat of a doctor who said he was bringing up milk because I fed him too much and should wean him !!!

Slide sounds good Sputnik ...can't believe all our babies are two already.

DD still has a nap 10 - 1pm and still goes down at 7pm....I'm very lucky I know. DS seems to be doing ok as well now and goes 7-7.....he woke at 5.30am this morning and was grumbling, but as I got out of bed he settled himself back to sleep so he wasn't fed till 7.15am. I hope it carries on!

How did DD get on at the doctors Jammy?

HellHathNoFury · 03/06/2009 11:58

Norty that's pretty shocking about the GP.
Hard to believe that there are people in these positions of 'power' that can give the less well informed such fucked up advice.

Natty, I think tbh without a car (or hiring one) camping may not be so doable!
Can always hire a camper though. I quite fancy doing that.

I once camped for 8 months. And I lived in a caravan for 2 years. I am at one with ants.

TheNatty · 03/06/2009 12:18

lmao fury!

hmm cheap holidays then.. maybe should give a holiday a miss this year, im a bit stumped for ideas that are less then 200 quid

HellHathNoFury · 03/06/2009 12:38

I'm afraid I am rubbish with cheap holiday ideas, but I know that the Pontins in Norfolk(?) is meant to be blinding actually. Daisy went there a while back.

Jammy also does those homestay things in the country which look nice.

How much is camping here? I have never camped in the UK. I would quite like to, I think DS would be in his element, he might even stop whining about chuggington.

I am not going on holiday now until Christmas (Centre parcs, yes, AGAIN) but I am also saving up for a skiing trip next jan/feb

HellHathNoFury · 03/06/2009 12:43

here you are

Less than £200

TheNatty · 03/06/2009 12:54

have had some fantastic news!!

michael has a date for surgery, begining of august

not much fun if im overdue as due 16th july, but he really needs this so i am happy for him to go ahead, he tried to get them to put it back but i told him not to be silly, he cant be in this amount of pain for a further month!

hes having an attempted repair of his kidney, and if not its being removed, all done keyhole, but he has to stay in four days bless him.

what a relief tho

LittleMissNorty · 03/06/2009 12:56

No holidays for us either this year....when I go onto SMP only, its beans on toast time for us! Let alone a holiday. Mind you the thought of taking 2 kids on holiday fills me with dread!

TheNatty · 03/06/2009 12:57

oh thanks fury, might take a looksie.
however might not go away at all now, with both of us potentially having surgery in the summer (if my HB goes wrong and need another CS)

alot of those places are shut at christmas arnt they? fancy going away over christmas itself, any ideas?

FrazzledFairyFay · 03/06/2009 12:57

That looks good Fury, what a bargain.

We are going camping, in Cornwall, for the first week of July. We're going with another family with similar aged DCs. I was talked into it, and I'm in 2 minds. If the weather's nice it'll be fab but if it pees down with rain then it'll be hell-on-legs. The campsite is costing just under £100 per family for 6 nights. It's a well equipped campsite with swimming pool, kids playground, nice loo/hot shower blocks, etc and not far from the sea. I imagine if you went for something more basic then it'd be cheaper.

I can't see how you'd do it without a car though. We've had to buy roof bars for our car as we haven't a hope of getting it all in - the 'big' things you need seem to be - tent, folding chairs, folding table, travel cot. Plus sleeping mats, sleeping bags, clothes, lamps, etc - I can't see you fitting all that on a buggy

LittleMissNorty · 03/06/2009 12:57

x-post. Great news Natty
