Here's a nice new thread for us to share our experiences with our new LOs.

gert- I BF Sam in a smelly hot baby change room in Debenhams at Meadowhall, but i'm sure all the major stores (Mothercare, M&S, House of Fraser, Boots) have rooms too.

Tummum- you are brave attempting potty training- how old is your DD2 and how's it going? If it goes well I might consider having a go with DS1 in a little while...

Fi thank you so much for that link, there's some gorgeous stuff! Should keep my mum busy for a while. She's so excited about knitting for Harvey, bless her

No room for Gert's lovely cake here unfortunately - just had 2 large helpings of honeycomb icecream - yum. More for the rest of you!

Tummum · 11/06/2009 22:35

Pula - she is 3 in July, so we are pretty late starting. It's a bit hit and miss, tbh. She is really good at going when she is sat on the potty, but isn't recognising when she needs to go, but we are only 2 days in !

Thanks for the cake Gert. I'm eating it with a virtual mojito.

Sympathies to you Flippin. Have a slab of millionaires shortbread to help make you feel better. I have the joys of MIL next week, and I am getting cranky even at the thought of it, as there are bound to be comments about BFing and potty training and the state of my house.

I really should go to bed as am shattered, but can't be bothered to go upstairs. How lazy am I? Can I also confess to having a (small) piece of cake at coffee morning and a cornetto for pudding tonight... the diet aint going so well today

FiKelly · 11/06/2009 22:53

g has finally zonked out and gone to sleep.. i've been watching [can't believe what i've seen either] america's got talent.. sorta transfixed in horror/amusement at some of the acts

gert i'll swap you some cup cakes for some of your cake and share the rest out too.

we've got mil probs too.. you may remember dh's mum changed her mind about coming down before g was due for one reason or another. she said she wanted to come asap after which we sussed wasn't to pitch in and help but to coo and do the proud grandma bit. dh is quite upset as he's been trying to get a date of when she wants to come since g was born and she was so desperate a few months ago to come. we've offered to buy her plane ticket (only glasgow to bristol) and she keeps making nonsense excuses why she can't travel atm. oh well it's her loss.. we can't force her to want to see her only grand daughter and ds (her only gs).

Momino · 11/06/2009 23:12

spangle, Honeycomb icecream? where can i get some? sounds yummy.

ahh, in laws. gotta love them .

i'm so tired, gonna lay my head down. Hope you all get sleep tonight.

Jennster · 12/06/2009 05:42

Morning folks. I went to bed late last night because I had a cup of tea at a meeting at 7.30, and been up since 4. I can't sleep. I think I need a blackout blind for ME.

FiKelly · 12/06/2009 05:58

morning g just had a feed.. & now back asleep. all that milk guzzling yesterday eve was worth it as she slept for just over 6hrs. can hear ds is awake but hoping he'll doze off again so i can too.. fingers crossed.

if we didn't have shutters i'd need a black out blind too!

Momino · 12/06/2009 07:02

Jennster, meeting? are you working? i can't bear to think about work. should be doing one of those 'keep in touch' days but can't be bothered.

going to play group today with the 3 dd's. i'll try to treat like a nursery day so we get out of the house unlike last fri.

fi, glad you and G got some quality sleep.

have a good day all.

Belgianchocolates · 12/06/2009 09:27

Morning everyone,

I'll be busy today. I've got to pack because we're going caravanning down in Kent to view the area we're moving too again and to have a look at a few houses. Not looking forward to being in a caravan with a 4 week old baby. I'm not quite sure about the sleeping arangements.

sleeping We always have a great 1st half of the night. C goes to sleep really well and is usually asleep around 10.3-11.00 and then sleeps about 4h (last night 5h ), but as soon as it starts getting light (that's what I've linked it to anyway). She starts sleeping lightly and noisily and so I tend to get to sleep in fits and bursts from about then. We even have a blackout blind, but it still quite light in our bedroom from that early because the sun comes up right in our bedroom window.

Yesterday C was very on/off with her feeding. You know few sucks off, cry, root, back on, off, etc... Anyway. Today I've noticed that she seems a bit snuffly, so maybe that's why she was feeding so difficultly. She was the same with her 1st feed this morning too. I might have to get some saline drops for her.

TMI, but strangely enough after a pregnancy where I was spared of piles, I've developed piles this week 4 weeks after C was born. Odd. They're supposed to go at this stage, not appear

Anyway. Got to get a move on and sort caravan stuff out.

emmabemmasmom · 12/06/2009 10:43

flip Sorry to hear PIL's are bothering you! My FIL called Emma Amy for ages. He is now thrown off by Sara not having an H on the end so calls her Zara...grrrr lol Also, re colic. Emma had it quite bad and the only thing that worked for us was a homeopathic remedy. I can't remember what it was called but ask your HV. They are little white granules (sp?)and you can get it from your pharmacy. They worked better than anything else we tried!

Fi Oh I can relate to the parents coming to visit. My family has never been here to visit in 3 years. Not that they don't want to, but I know how the excuses can get to you. If it were me I would drop everything and go into debt to be there for my grandbabies. We go to the states at least twice a year and they are already asking us to come in a few months...wouldn't it be easier for them to come to me rather than travelling with 2 small babies?? Tooootally feel for you!

Well again, thank you all for your support. Means so much even if I don't know you all in RL. I can talk here more than I could in RL, so it means a lot.

I have to say at the moment I feel like a new woman. S was up at 6:30pm and cluster fed until 8:30, fell asleep at 8:45 and slept until 2am! She then fed for 15 min, went back into her cot and slept until 8am! Also, E slept until nearly 9am!! So I had more sleep than ever and feel so much better for it.

Still feeling down but at least I can make a coherent thought today. DH is also taking E into town today for a bit so looking forward to watching katie and peter something intelligent when they are away

And to top it off, when S woke again at 9 she smiled at me for the first time

However, E has already been in time out. Who is loving time out lol She just sits quite for a few min and I am in heaven...bad mom?

SesHasFinallyBecomeAMum · 12/06/2009 11:33

Morning all!

Owen is not settling well this morning and I can't work out if he's hungry, got wind, fighting tiredness, his body clock is changing, he's preparing for his grand weigh in or all of the above! As I type, he's just gone in his sling and is half asleep so we'll see...

emmabemmasmom - glad you're feeling a bit better today

Belgian - whereabouts in Kent are you moving to? My grandparents lived there and there are some truly beautiful parts.

Oh and yay for name check amnesty! I struggle to keep up sometimes!

Belgianchocolates · 12/06/2009 11:48

emmab I'm glad you're feeling better today. Amazing what a good night's sleep can do, isn't it? They do, after all, use sleep deprivation as a sort of torture. Us new mums are expected to undergo sleep deprivation and still run a household too! No wonder new mums sometimes feel like it's all too much .

ses C is unsettled too today. Unless I'm holding her she's crying, but I can't pack while holding her. I don't really want to put her in the sling either, because of all the bending I'm doing at the moment and I'll hurt my back. So it's a case of doing things in 10 min bursts, giving her a cuddle and putting her down until she cries again. She looks absolutely shattered though.

I'm going to the middle of Kent somewhere near Tenterden.

Tummum · 12/06/2009 12:49

Belgian I feel your pain on caravan packing. Our van has still not been cleaned from our last trip out . I was very nervous on our first trip with G but it worked out OK. He slept in his moses basket in between the sofas.

Emmasmom glad you are feeling better.

Just been to the garden centre to buy loads of plants as a reward for myself for sorting out the very overgrown borders. Just waiting for G to go to sleep so I can get out and plant as DD1 is in school and DD2 in pre-school. Except he is wide awake and snuffling and head-bobbing. Better get my boob out !

Oh, and exciting (TMI) news from the Tumm household. I had a poo yesterday and it didn't hurt ! Yay! The cream I got last week from the Dr obviously worked.

Belgianchocolates · 12/06/2009 13:21

Tummum Our van hasn't been cleaned since our last trip (from hell) to the Lake District in November. It's already at the campsite as DH towed it down on his way to work. I have to try and remember what's missing from memory. Oh that last trip was horrible. Firstly I was still suffering from morning sickness and secondly we happened to choose the worst weekend of the year: storm, rain, flooding, campsites closing, fell runners needing rescueing by the army, caravan getting stuck in mud, etc... Luckily this weekend is supposed to be nice. We have 2 double beds and a bunk in our van, so I think I'll share with C and DH will share with dd1.

at your painless poo. I'm really annoyed about getting piles now.

Just managed to express 90mls. My boobs were killing me and C doesn't seem to be having big feeds today and so it's not getting better. Back to the packing now.

Febes · 12/06/2009 14:21

Momino DD was only 6 weeks old when I saw Juno and I also cried at the birth at the end

SesHasFinallyBecomeAMum · 12/06/2009 14:33

HV just been for Owen's weigh in. He has gained weight but not a huge amount - 2.5oz in a week. That still only makes him 7lb 13oz when his birth weight was 8lb 9oz and he's 5 weeks tomorrow. He sounds so tiny compared with some of your babies!
Guess I just need to be pleased that this is his highest weight except for his birth weight and he's headed in the right direction now.
HV seemed tempted to refer us to GP but didn't and is coming back for another weigh in on Monday.

Jennster · 12/06/2009 14:44

momino no not working. It was a meeting to organise a family fun day at church. I have however attended an Infant Feeding Advisory Group meeting as a representative of BfN, a supervision session for BfN and this morning, went to a training session for the new WHO weight charts since dd2 has been born. Luckily these have all been suitable for babes in arms.

Jennster · 12/06/2009 14:45

Incidentally has anybody got a red book with the new charts? They were available from 11th May. Most places are using up the old ones first though.

Belgianchocolates · 12/06/2009 14:53

Jenn Interesting that you're in the BfN. They've got lots of useful leaflets that we use at work. I've still got an old red book. I can't wait to see the new ones come in though. Hopefully we'll see a big difference in mums being pressurised in feeding lo more/supplementing.

Ses Well done on the weight gain. Well, not yours but baby O off course . Try not to get to focussed on the weight. If he's happy than he's OK and as you said. He's gaining some weight and heading in the right direction. Better than not gaining any or even worse, losing weight.

Right. I'm saying goodbye to you ladies now. I'm off to pick up the dcs and then carry on to Kent. I'd hoped to tidy the house a bit more than I have before leaving, because I don't like coming home to a messy house, but anyway. Hopefully I haven't forgotten anything. All that's left to do now is shoo the cat out of the car and see if the travel system base will fit on top of all the other stuff. I think the cat thinks I haven't noticed that she's hiding in the car. She always does that when we're going to go away for a while. She knows.

Jennster · 12/06/2009 14:59

Belgian oh yes the leaflets are brilliant. I have a massive stash in my handbag.

pulapula · 12/06/2009 15:03

Afternoon all, Made it out to baby group this morning which was nice- reassuring to hear the other mums talk about things getting easier- they said they noticed things improve significantly at 6 weeks, 12 weeks, 4 months, 6 months....And i managed to get DS2 to sleep there just by holding him across me and patting his bum (dummy in) because quite often i have to feed him to sleep and he just wasn't hungry.

And he is now asleep in his basket so I have been on the FB group and added a couple of "discussions" - one is a list of our FB/MN names and our babies' names, as i find it hard to remember all those baby names!. The other is a discussion for those planning to go to York for the big scream on 1 July.

Better go do something useful now, like hanging out washing

OP posts:
Momino · 12/06/2009 15:09

thank goodness for that, Jennster (the part about not meeting for work). the BfN sounds interesting anyway.

beautiful day here . went to play group this morning with the 3 DDs, wasn't too bad as the older 2 are now playing nicely together so aren't as clingy/demanding to me.

weight charts, my book says 'breast from birth' on the weight chart an Harper was born 2/5.

ses, glad O is gaining and hope he continues for his next check. glad also your HV hasn't rushed you to paediatrician referral. O sounds like how my dd1 started - she was tongue tied and very slow to gain. was always below the weight chart but never lost weight. in the end was referred and tested for CF though obvious she was healthy and discharged later. she's now slightly above ave on the weight chart. they all catch up at some point .

oh, Harper also smiled today! she's had a very bright expression the past few days but today was the 1st time i saw a real smile, so rewarding (not that i need a reward but it's lovely to get a smile!).

pulapula · 12/06/2009 15:12

I don't have a red book yet - either MWs or hospital didn't order enough!

OP posts:
Momino · 12/06/2009 15:14

pula, thanks for keeping us organised!

btw, i noticed huge sleep/settling improvements around 6 wk mark with all 3 of mine including H who is 6 wks tomorrow.
