pistacho - lol at pteradactyl noises... we call Q a velocoraptor (sp!?!). he screeches and coos and has started this lower more masculine toned "grrrr" type noise (of course not actually /g/ or /r/ sounds - more like a long grunt).
Every time he murmurs anything, DH says "da da?" "dadadadada" I wonder what is first word will be?

Q is 19lbs and 7 months 2nd week. I can't believe he came home a 5lb baby!!!

star6 · 12/05/2009 20:46

Oh! my friend gave Q the puree of carrot, parsnip, apple mixed with whole Quinoa today. Apparently, he stored up the Quinoa in his cheek and at teh end attempted a swallow, choked, couldn't breathe and she hit his back and out flew a coin sized lump of Quinoa, hard as a rock, all packed together! I've pureed the Quinoa for his feed tomorrow as she is still quite shaken up by it. (I think it must be even harder when a baby that isn't yours is choking). I'm also making a pasta dish for him (goign to "chop" the pasta in blender instead of puree so there are small pieces of it for him to learn to chew and digest).
Can they have gluten at 7 months? Or do I need to still get gluten free pasta? And I've tried Q with wheatabix. he's fine with wheat, so can I use wholewheat pasta or is that a no-no for this age?

Rhian82 · 12/05/2009 20:56

I think gluten is fine from six months.

DS is seven months on Sunday and does a lot of the raptor-shrieking! He also does a "Mmmmmmmm" sound a lot which does occasionally turn into a "Mum", obviously not in context and completely unintentional on his part, but I still love it! He was 15lb15oz last week, feels tiny compared to some on here! Lots of teeth though - one bottom one, two top ones (the ones either side of the middle - vampire!) and the middle two top ones are about to break through.

It's good to be reassured about the crawling thing as well, thanks! Need to start tempting him forward with toys...

Marthasmama · 12/05/2009 21:00

Star - Q seems determined to choke himself little pickle! Yes I can imagine that it must be really scary when it's someone else's baby. I give M whole wheat pasta and it's not been a problem with her. But I have just read that you shouldn't give them wheat until they are 8 months....Ooops! Ah well, M has been fine but I'll cut it out again until she's older.

I was going to mention that I think M is objecting to the real nappies. She was grumpy all morning and when I had run out of trial nappies, I put her in a disposable and she cheered right up! She was happy in the Tots Bots but the others have made her miserable. I am wondering if it is because she actually feels wet in the real nappies. I'll have to try the Tots Bots over night and see how they do. Luckily the Blueberry pocket nappy leaked the most, (it was the most expensive) so we won't be getting those!

Ahhhh, see I have so much to learn! I have posted a new thread on the nappy board to see if anyone knows why M is being a cheeky monkey about the nappies. I won't let her win!

pepperrabbit · 12/05/2009 21:36

evening all,
Rhian - my DD is exactly the same age as your DS, she can roll, can't sit for toffee and has no teeth but weighed 16lb 8oz a couple of weeks back! So they're all very different....
myjob, really don't worry too much, DH and i were just trying to remember about his nephew, who absolutely refused to move till well over 12 months - literally, you'd put him down and he could sit up, he'd just stay exactly where you left him! DSIL used to get really embarrassed in public, but confessed in private that it was lovely to know exactly where he was and to sit and enjoy a coffee when all other mum's were rescuing their offspring from all sorts of scrapes. He's a perfectly normal 5 year old now. HTH

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/05/2009 21:43

Gluten fine from 6 months unless you're following a weaning schedule for allergicky babies. Too much wholegrain can bung them up though, as it moves along slower and more water gets absorbed out of it, so you may want to try white pasta initially.

Yes, my ds has overtaken yours pistachio, as he was that weight a couple of weeks ago.

Myjob - please try not to worry. You can see from the other replies and months of chatting to us all that all of the babies are developing differently, but they are all developing, including Naomi. If you are really worried and want to do something about it, then I'd suggest taking her to a cranial osteopath or chiropractor, but I really don't think that there's any need.

Poor ds is not right. I don't know what's wrong, but hope it's just teeth about to arrive (we also have none myjob). He took forever to get back to sleep in his cot last night, and then woke every hour afterwards, and ended up crashing out on top of me in my bed after a feed at 6:15 this morning. He is now awake with dh trying to settle him, but he's been trying for ages already, and it's not his first wake since bedtime. I gave him calpol earlier, but I guess that wasn't enough. He hasn't been at all interested in solids today, but has still been distracted at milk feeds, so probably hasn't fed as much as he ought. He has a runny nose, and did feel a touch hot this evening, but nothing else obviously wrong. Poor baby, and probably poor me in the middle of the night!

Right, amd too distracted by crying, so will leave it there for now.

Oh, KSal, here is gym .

pepperrabbit · 12/05/2009 21:56

CSWS, sorry to hear DS is poorly, have you tried baby nurofen? Sometimes that perks mine up when the calpol type ones fail?
I hate that feeling when you just know you'll be up all night but still have to function the next day - I do feel for you.

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/05/2009 22:04

pepperrabbit · 12/05/2009 22:14

& hope he feels better soon, I'm off to bed now, night all.

RachieW · 12/05/2009 22:18

Myjob- my friend's ds is now nearly 11 months and has no teeth, doesn't roll or make any attempt to crawl. He can sit up by himself but that's only a recent thing, he's also only just learnt how to hold rusk type food to his mouth. He's a very happy baby, who sleeps well and loves his food (purees). He had his 8 month check and was fine. I think he's just a bit lazy laid back My cousin's dd is 14 months and only got her first teeth last month. Like others have said I think babies just develop differently. I know that's easy to say as I have a complete panic if I don't think Jack is 'right'- like when he refused to eat his puree and I was teary all day thinking he'd never eat anything

Oh and my oldest friend didn't really have much hair until she was about 3. She was desperate for hair so her auntie knitted her her a hat with two plaits which she used to call her hair. Bless

heather1980 · 13/05/2009 08:49

morning all,
i went to bed at 8pm last night, i was soooo tired i could hardly keep my eyes open.

alex is 7 months in 3 days, and he can properly crawl on his hands and knees, he can get himself into a sitting position by pushing himself up and twisting himself. but he still wakes atleast 3-4 times a night and has no teeth yet. he's approx 23lb.
he's still the klingon baby though and much perfers to be carried about.

KSal · 13/05/2009 09:02

Thanks CSWS! Hope you didn't have too rough a night and D is feeling a bit better this morning.

its really interesting hearing how everyone's LO's are developing, there is such a wide range, and it sounds like Emma is similar to Naomi except Emma won't sit and Naomi won't roll!

I think i'm quite keen for the sitting to happen as it might help with the reflux - then we can see if we can take her off the gaviscon

KSal · 13/05/2009 09:04

oh and like Naomi she self settles and sleeps through 11 hours a night, so i should really be counting my lucky stars! think she's about 19lbs

Rhian82 · 13/05/2009 09:20

Sorry to hear about ill baby CSWS - hope he's feeling better soon!

DS had a rotten night last night, after being so good for several nights he just kept waking up. He'd settle pretty well for DH, but just wake up again not long after. I think it might be his top teeth breaking through Sitting in work feeling very tired now!

Interesting to hear about the nappies MM. DS has been in cloth since about four months old, and is just as happy in them - mind you, it's never bothered him at all if his nappy is wet or dirty, we just have to go by smell if he needs changing as he never lets us know! We used to have to change at least once in the night, but since we haven't been feeding him in the night he's gone fine without any leaks - until last night, when he was wet in the morning. He didn't care, but I didn't realise until I'd started feeding him and then had to spend the feed being very careful to not get my work clothes wet!

CantSleepWontSleep · 13/05/2009 10:06

Morning ladies.
No more medicine given overnight. He was an absolute pain to get back to sleep in cot overnight (45mins), sleeping happily in my arms but wailing as soon as lowered towards bed, but he only woke once after being put back to bed at 10:30, and dd didn't get up til gone 7, so overall it counts as a good night for me.

He won't be put down for nap this morning either, so is sleeping on my lap (and currently still latched on to breast).

You didn't actually say whether you are feeling brighter this morning heather. I do hope so.

Haircut for me at lunchtime today, but no other plans.
Have also identified space for veg patch, so will be picking aubergenie's brains once I get to that stage.

We are now veering away from both large shed/garage idea and summerhouse idea, and towards putting our existing garden table into the space, plus a small shed, and a tool store further up the garden, which will require us to dig up a bush.

Morning
CSWS, hurray for a better night, that and a new haircut should make you feel quite perky! Hope you'll give us a twirl later
We had a fairly good night, just some whinging at 3am but nothing serious, so feel quite perky myself today. Slightly dampened by a miserably wet school run but heyho.
Have been emailing work about my return in September, somehting along the lines of "this is my plan, dare you to argue..." working quite well so far. It's only just worth it financially, and the logistics are horrific with 3 LOs, but for my sanity, as they say, priceless.

jenwa · 13/05/2009 12:04

Morning all.
I agree Ksal its interesting to see what they all are doing. It shows you they are all different. Phoebe is not sitting yet, has on afew occasions but then topples over! She is rolling well and eats fab. I do think she would have been fab to BLW with now she much prefers to do it by herself and even wants to put the spoon in the bowl to get the food out but cant quite achieve it! When I feed her she takes about 6 mouthfulls but then starts grizzling so I give her something to hold and she eats it well. She loves the organinc carrot stick things, cheese chunks, biscotti biscuits etc and anything she can chomp on. She did eat her dinner well last night, I pureed mash potato and cream cheese with garlic and peas, carrots and brocolli and she ate it well.

csws I want a veggie patch to and a nice herb garden. May try doing it next week. Glad you had a better night in the end. I remember someone telling me that babies have a 3 inch mattress fear, they are fast asleep and you just get them to a certain level and they wake up, wide awak like they know the mattres is there and they DONT want it

Got grans funeral on monday so this weekend will be a preparing one so not sure what I will be doing!

Right off to do Phoebes lunch now and then mine. DD1 at playgroup til 3:15 so giong to have a quiter afternoon as been busy this am.

jenwa · 13/05/2009 12:07

oh and mm thank you for your offer on cleaning your house but I may lead you in to the OCD behaviour, once you start the obsession you cant get out of it!!!
Me and star were seperated at birth! We are clean freaks although I can let it slip a bit now but then go on a wild mission to get it back to the way it was, then DH comes home ....ponders off to think of a life without men and mess......

Ekka · 13/05/2009 12:10

KSal we have all our moisturising creams on prescription, but I think that the doctor has to see you and diagnose eczema before you get the prescription. In fact I'm just waiting for a call from the docs to ask him to put ours on repeat prescription as we do dry wrapping with Matthew & go through a 500g pot of epaderm a week

Jojay - your poor ds. Its horrible when they are not well, especially when you can't go with them. We had this with dd when ds was tiny. Dh had to take her to the hospital for her breathing. It was a horrible wait.

Only read part of thread, must go catch ds before he gets stuck under the table
