You are a 'supporting adult' KSal. We're having a Baby Naming for M (and did for ds too) as most of my friends are Godless so we couldn't do the whole Baptism thing. Plus DH is not christened.

KSal · 12/05/2009 12:19

i think its a lovely idea MM, really great day of celebration. I'm not christened either, so wouldn't be going down the religious route for emma. I'm not sure about a naming day yet, i want to have some kind of event, but i'm not sure about the formality, maybe we'll just leave it until her birthday.

its quite an honour being a supporting adult, i thought i'd never get the opportunity because of the whole godlessness thing, so its great that there's this alternative.

KSal - how strange that your doc wouldn't prescribe it. I saw a different GP to normal (about DS's ear infection) and she asked about his eczema and how the E45 was doing, and what detergent we used. She said her daughter had had eczema, and they'd found Fairy non-bio was best (which I've since changed to, and it's also really helped), and recommended Aveeno, then gave me a prescription for the cream and the bath oil. Maybe it's at the practice's discretion - the GP I saw owns the practice, so if she's convinced it's worth it I guess she has the power to make that decision. Seems very unfair though!

I went back to work when DS was about 5.5 months, which felt about right (and we needed the money!). I think the nursery is really good for him as he doesn't get any other interaction with other babies. I'm loving being back at work - I think I'm actually less tired as sitting at a desk working at a computer is so much easier than entertaining a baby!

Marthasmama · 12/05/2009 15:31

Red - How's life back at work? I missed Doctors yesterday but today in Doctors, Ruth started going a bit funny about Julia's stuff (mimicking Julia etc etc) and so phoned the MHN. She then confessed to Julia who felt very uncomfortable about it. Hmmmm..... Michelle is still being offish and grumpy, but I'm not really sure what about. The new nurse is still squeaky and annoying. No actual doctors in it today. You can always catch up on iPlayer you know....

star6 · 12/05/2009 16:36

Rhian - a bit about sitting at a desk... I'm feeling quite exhausted at the end of the day with 5-7 year olds But I do LOVE it!

RachieW · 12/05/2009 16:40

Was filming ds sitting up to send to my Mum when he flopped and whacked his head on the floor Wasn't quick enough to catch him, he cried but is fine now- we have carpet so he was cushioned a bit. Deleted the video to ease my guilt

jenwa · 12/05/2009 17:51

mm I was just reading your thread and thought it really happend at your doctors , I thought, wow you know your drs well
also LOL re the growbag!
I think you haev to trust your instinct too, HVS do give advice that can be good but not always appropriate for your child. They dont know you or your child well enough to know what works etc. Mine was lovely though. With DD1 she was a complete fruit loop!

rachie poor DS hope he is ok.

myjob glad your ds is better although still not 100%

jojay glad your ds is ok and at home.

Had a package arrive today, DH been ordering items from Anne summers haha!!!
Also got my annabel karmel book (new one) of ebay so can do some cooking, faniced a read tonight but reckon DH has other ideas

loulou god I sound sad dont I re cleaning behind the sky box wont need to do it again for a while now . I even managed to chop some stuff down in the garden too!

Right better go and sort DC out!

Sorry to barge in ladies!

Marthasmama - can I please come and play with your Xplory? I think I want one, but wondering if the space between the wheels is wide enough for me, as it appears I turn my feet out quite some way and keep booting the wheels on our piece of shit M&P pram.

Glad to hear you're still thinking of midwifery - post-baby, I can now see the attraction, and same goes for the bfc! Good on yer!

As you were October ladies

Honeymoonmummy · 12/05/2009 19:30

Hey all, just a quick hello, I've STILL not caught up, been to physio and counsellor both for first time today. Physio given me some exercises to do. Counsellor told me to have a night out

Hopefully catch up further later. Hope you all are well.

star6 · 12/05/2009 19:42

myjob i will be reading with interest answers to your question - Emma is now rolling (as of a couple of weeks) but still can't sit. She topples in about 5 seconds! I have to admit it is starting to worry me too and they are simlar ages...

Rhian82 · 12/05/2009 19:59

DS has only just started sitting unsupported, as of a few days ago. He learned to roll a while ago, but hasn't in ages as he's been more interested in sorting the sitting thing and doesn't like lying down any more. I do worry that he's forgotten how!

I also wonder how he's going to learn to crawl if he doesn't spend any time on his front. Hmmmm...

aubergenie · 12/05/2009 20:00

Star - I love clean, just hate cleaning

Just marking my place really. Back later.

star6 · 12/05/2009 20:13

Q has been standing on his feet like that holding onto stuff for months. he's only just now started to "scoot" from one end of coffee table to the other (he often falls, though). He can get onto tummy or all fours from sitting now (he used to just fall on his face when attempting).
Rhian - i worried over this, too, but Q just all of a sudden started wanting to reach for toys a bit ahead of him and then he sorted out how to get on all fours or on his tummy, then back up on knees/hands.
Q doesn't roll. He did it a few times early on, but can't sort it still. DH practices with him in his cot ... but he doesn't really do it well.
Q MUCH prefers to stand up - supported by holding our fingers or by leaning against ourlegs...etc... but I much prefer him to keep trying to crawl. he did show he could crawl a bit this weekend... though it was backwards
He sits very solid now. There was a while where he would wobble quite a bit.

Marthasmama · 12/05/2009 20:16

Juw - I have sent you a message on FB. But of course you may

I'm just having dinner then I'll be back.......

myjob - I've been told over and over again when I look at babycentre's monthly updates and worry worry worry... that all babies develop at different rates and your baby will be able to do all of those things in time. It doesn't matter which month or how early or late a baby does those things, just that they do them Naomi is just fine - and beautiful!

I'm actually terrified that Q will start walking or crawling soon. Life as we know it will be over

I keep putting him back on his bum when he wants to "step"

Marthasmama · 12/05/2009 20:34

Ah Myjob -Don't worry. M can roll but that's it. She is still nowhere near crawling. My friend's ds is 6 months and he is crawling. M is getting fed up with not being able to move though, you can tell, but she won't do anything about it. Silly girl! M loves standing up and can now stand holding on with just one hand. However she did spin round on her foot today when she wasn't concentrating and she pulled her arm. My mum was holding her at the time and she gave my mum such an evil look. It was soooooo funny! Oh and M can sit but only when she concentrates! She falls all over the place sometimes and other times she can balance really well. She can also do proper sit ups is she is on a very slight incline!

Jenwa & Star - Do you fancy a visit to my house? I could leave some cleaning products lying around for you....... Jenwa I expect that you might be too tired though if DH has his way.

loulou33 · 12/05/2009 20:35

Myjob - i don't think your hv would be concerned yet. Does she try to roll but gets stuck and can't get over or is she not interested at alli in rolling? What happens if you put a toy behind her head so she has to turn her head right over to see it?? Does she twist her body or just look for something else?? Does she sit with/without support? Does she like to stand with you holding her? Some babies dont' roll, just like some don't crawl. I would mention it to your hv if he/she is nice but see how she goes with standing in a few months (she may go straight to walking or bum shuffling)

Joe is sitting on his own but often falls particularly when he is tired. he cries if on his back and doesn't often roll much now and has shown no interest in trying to crawl. I have noticed him wiggling his bum back and forth on the spot when he sees a toy out of his reach so i wondering if he's going to be a bum shuffler!! He does stand on my knee but does an elvis impression as he can't take his weight yet (he's far too fat for his legs basically!!) Q is obviously way ahead with the whole walking thing so it jsut shows how different they all are. Joe is so laid back compared to DS1 so i am not worried about him not 'doing' things at the right time as it were.

Last night, i gave Joe some formula at bedtime which is wolfed down but woke at 5.30am and fed from me like he'd been starved. wierdly, he's fed more from me today without a fight than for weeks (what's that all about??). It was also nice to be able to feed him and look at him at the same time. for weeks, i have been avoiding eye contact with him as it usually makes him pull away and not want to eat anymore. I can now look at him when he's eating and make eye contact. I realised tonight it must be weeks since i have been able to do that - there are some positives after all..

Jenwa - you are not weird, i'm just lazy. we had a huge furniture move around today and i found dust bunnies the size of small children behind my telly - yuck at how slovely i am. I have cleaned them now and feel very virtuous...til next time

Glad the poorly ones are getting better too

Marthasmama · 12/05/2009 20:38

Oh and Myjob - M has no idea about 'stepping'. Our girls are talkers though. I am willing to bet that the boys are nowhere near with the language development. M has a new sound everyday and I bet N is the same. Does ds get her things she wants? I have to stop my ds getting things for M so that she will try to make an effort to get things herself.

star6 · 12/05/2009 20:40

pistacho - lol at pteradactyl noises... we call Q a velocoraptor (sp!?!). he screeches and coos and has started this lower more masculine toned "grrrr" type noise (of course not actually /g/ or /r/ sounds - more like a long grunt).
Every time he murmurs anything, DH says "da da?" "dadadadada" I wonder what is first word will be?

Q is 19lbs and 7 months 2nd week. I can't believe he came home a 5lb baby!!!
