Sorry you had such a crap night aubergenie - its no fun when you feel ill as well. ,loulou passes some strepsils and a hot toddy>

MM - just to empthasise, crying when you leave the room is normal and continues till they are 15 months of so iirc. It is a sign of secure attachment so don't be sad - it will fade on its own...

Ekka - hope the party goes well

Myjob - how's N getting on? Is she any better yet.

jenwa · 22/05/2009 11:41

csws oh poor you, glad last night was better, hopefully you wont need a whole week to do it and afew days then sleep will come find you It is so sad when they do cry and heartbreaking, luckily mine were ok and the dummy seemed to sooth then back off. P was however awake at 5:30 am although we did not get her up til 7:15, she is sleeping now though as shattered.
mm DO you think your DH being away may have affected M? Just in what routines you may do when he is there and when he is not? Also getting used to him there then he was away for awhile she only had you Maybe this could be why she is sooo upset when either of you leave the room? My friends daughter used to cry soooo much that she threw up everytime, it became a game though with her and she knew once she had been sick mummy and daddy came in and spent time cleaning her up and being with her! She was older but it did start from an early age. They had to just clean her up and not really communicate much with her in the end. She used to cry so much she would cough then gag. It is awful though, she stayed here on night and was screaming and coughing, I flew in to the room as did not want to be cleaning vomit up!
Just did a tesco shop online and spent a stupid amount on not much will try asda again next time but do like tescos! I just wish things were cheaper! Especially when Dh gets paid this month and we have no idea how much and have to pay back overdrafts! He is meeting with the bloke today to discuss stuff so hopefully things will sort out but I dont like the man he is meeting and am slighty worried!

jenwa · 22/05/2009 11:43

loulou crying til 15 months, are you sure, DD1 can turn the tears on now she is 3.5!!! She has had afew more terrors too! Not as regular but if she has had a really busy day then she seems to get one!

Marthasmama · 22/05/2009 12:04

Right, even though I was on here until gone 11 last night I have loads to catch up on!!

Aubergenie - It's such hard work looking after these babies when you're ill too. I hope DP is helping out. We took M to the doctors this morning as she has a had a cold for a couple of days. She was really grumpy this morning and kept tugging her ear. She's fine but I did think, typical, ear infection just before her naming day! She refused to let the doctor look at her throat though.

CSWS - There has to be an end in sight, there really has to be!!! I feel your pain about how hard it is to leave them crying, especially as you know that a cuddle will cheer them up. Good luck with whatever road you decide to take and we're always here to support you through it.

Jenwa - I did wonder that about DH's absence. She is so funny, during the day she wants DH, at night it's all mummy! I hope she doesn't start that game of vomiting for attention!

Loulou - I tried the put down pick up thing last night but even that descended into hysteria! She goes to sleep almost instantly when I pick her though. Grrrrrr!

Oh I had more to say but M has woken up so I need to get her......Yes, that's right! She went to sleep in her cot during the day - only for 45 mins, but wow!!!

aubergenie · 22/05/2009 12:19

MM- Yes, DP has been looking after me and taking turns doing Stanley duty. I'm not sure if it's helping though as the minute dp came in last night (he's still mostly on the sofa ) S suddenly pinged awake and wanted to play. I think he associates his daddy with fun, fun, fun, probably because dp actually has the energy to do a lot of the vigourous playing that I'm too ground down to do at the moment. I'm sure it'll all change as soon as I'm back at work though.

Sorry to hear M is poorly too. Is it the Naming Day tomorrow?

loulou33 · 22/05/2009 12:49

MM - well done for getting M to sleep in her cot during the day - that's a big hurdle. Will post more later about the pick up/put down stuff. It didn't work for JOe as it made him more hyseterical. I jsut stroked him but will get back to tell you more later

Marthasmama · 22/05/2009 13:32

It is indeed tomorrow Aubergenie. It also sounds like your family dynamics are the same as mine! Daddy is for fun mummy is for comforting. It is the same with ds in our house. Any time he needs comfort or patience he comes to me and any time he wants to run around like a crazy thing he wants daddy. I have made a concerted effort with M today and have been playing lots to try and break that association.

Loulou - I was ed that she actually went down in her cot today! She normally wakes up instantly and looks at me like I'm mad. I have decided that I am only going to bf her in the bedroom, so that she associates the bedroom with sleep and cuddles rather than me. Hope it works.....!

aubergenie · 22/05/2009 13:42

MM- The things you've said about M recently reminded me of this.

I think it's going to be sunny tomorrow! Have you got a lot of guests?

loulou33 · 22/05/2009 13:45

MM - Sounds like a plan. i only feed Joe in his room at bedtime and he does not come out of the room again until morning [that sounds a bit draconian but you what i mean]

Aubergenie - can't get to the article unless i sign up, what does it say??

Marthasmama · 22/05/2009 14:15

Aubergenie - I will read it all properly later, but just read the in the womb bit. Ha ha ha ha! Yes, that was M!

star6 · 22/05/2009 14:21

aubergenie - don't bank on getting back loads of energy once you return to work
I've found that I'm just as exhausted, if not more... because of the job (working with small children - which I know you do, too).

Marthasmama · 22/05/2009 16:18

Aubergenie - That aritcle is making me laugh as it is sooooo M! DS was also classed as a high need baby by the HV as he was really demanding too. Lucky me eh?! DS was mellow by 8 months, but he was crawling at 6.5 months so I think that went a long way to chilling him out. We have about 50 adults and 6 babies. I have made some pasta with tomato for the babies as 4 of them are weaning age and also got some baby rice cakes. I am going to have to watch M like a hawk to make sure that no well meaning relative/friend thinks it's a good idea to give M a 'treat' of some cake or crisp. I know a taste won't harm her, but why let her taste it at all?! I know my girl, if she tastes cake, she won't go back to fruit and veg!

M is in her cot again! I don't know what has clicked today, maybe she sensed that mummy means business this time!

jenwa · 22/05/2009 18:54

MM hope you have a lovely day tomorrow. What dress did you get for M in the end and what about you?

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/05/2009 20:11

at tomato sauce for all the babies who will be in their best bib and tucker . (Actually I did similar for dd's Christening, with 'proper' caterers for adult food). Hope you all have a lovely day.

Anyone like to hazard a guess as to how long ds cried at bedtime tonight?

Less than a minute.

Took about 12 mins for his afternoon nap today. Will be interesting to see how he does overnight. Of course if he sleeps much better then he might wake up rather too early, and we'll end up having to push his bedtime, but hopefully he'll just learn to sleep for longer overall.

Myjob - As I said, it does no harm what so ever, I just think that while she doesn't know it's yummy, there is no need to introduce her to it! She'll have a taste soon enough and I want to put that day off for as long as possible. DS didn't taste chocolate until he was 18 months old and then that was someone else's doing. It's a personal choice, that is all. Just like a veggie avoiding giving meat I suppose. Poor N, I can't believe she's still really unwell. Has she still got a temperature? M is full of cold and snotty plus she has a giant spot on her cheek. Yay! That will be good for photos!

CSWS - It's either going to be a really long time or no time at all. I don't know, I'll opt for the latter, 3 minutes..... And hee hee! I'm getting M changed for the food bit! My family and friends aren't classy enough to worry about getting caterers in, we've done it all ourselves, however M&S provided the cupcakes!

Jenwa - This is M's dress and she has a little white cardigan to wear with it. I have a black and white dress which doesn't quite look like a marquee.

I am in Itti Bitti obsessive heaven at the moment. I have folded them all and put all the linings in. I love them !

Marthasmama · 22/05/2009 20:53

CSWS - I am sooooo slow! Yay!!! Well done you and well done D! Good lad!

Marthasmama · 22/05/2009 21:01

Hmm - Saw this and thought of you, well of P.

Arse! I just wrote a really long message and it's gone.

MM - Have a fantastic day tomorrow. Put some pics on FB for us, won't you?!

Star - Alas I think you're right about being tired back at work, but what will be different is that fact that dp will be looking after S while I'm working 3 days a week, so the share of parenting will be much more equal. At the moment there are lots of things that have become my job (simply because I think of doing them, like giving S solid food, among many, many others). He is going to have to do all of those things and they'll become our jobs. Then he'll be as knackered as me!

Ekka · 22/05/2009 21:10

Yay CSWS!!!! Brilliant news.

Myjob - you poor thing. I feel so sorry for N, its awful when they are not themselves.

Aubergenie, sorry to hear about you feeling unwell too.

MM, dd wasn't offered any chocolate/cake etc till her first birthday, and she was scared of it . However this easter she finally discovered she likes cake & chocolate, so no more of my eating her share I knew it was too good to last . I hope you have a great day tomorrow and great news that Martha has cottoned on to sleeping in her cot in the day.

We spent this afternoon at a 2nd birthday party for one of dd's nct group. It was really great! Now we have to get everything ready for dd's party in a couple of weeks.... I love kids parties
