Just googled and found this comment:
'...babyworld health visitor Debbie Honer explains. "Separation anxiety affects all babies to some degree, but some more than others. It begins at around seven months, peaks just after the first birthday and gradually declines up to the age of three."

CSWS - Thank you for that, it made me chuckle. I am going to have brace myself if we're going to do CC as I can't do it. I have suggested to DH that we try me feeding M before bed then him settling her through the night, to try and break the feeding at night dependence. I't going to be so hard.

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/05/2009 22:54

I'm still going to feed at night if it's been 3 hrs or more since last feed. But might let him cry a bit if he doesn't resettle afterwards.

CSWS - Yes it is the time for it, but it started at around 5 months. She also has terrible stranger fear and won't let anyone she doesn't know really well hold her. (the in-laws for example) I have been trying to find out what could be causing her to be so bad as it doesn't make much sense as we were very stressed parents with DS and he was fine! He'd cry at first, then calm down and entertain himself, M just screams until we come back!

ronshar · 21/05/2009 22:56

MM sounds like a good excuse to pick up DS and go away for the night

Marthasmama · 21/05/2009 22:57

D eats well in the day though doesn't he CSWS? M doesn't which is why I want to try and stop her relying so much on night feeding. On a positive note, I made homemade turkey and chickpea burgers with sweet potato chips for dinner tonight and M ate loads! So that might help her sleep tonight.

ronshar · 21/05/2009 23:02

I would like that. Can you send some my way

Dont take it personnally MM, all children are different. My three are all completely different. You will have to take it slowly and at M's pace.

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/05/2009 23:02

He's not eaten so well of late mm, which I put down to teething in the main. He certainly doesn't bf well in the day, but mealtimes really vary. He ate a decent tea tonight I think. It's hard to tell really when there's a pile of bits of food in his highchair and all over the floor how much has actually been consumed.

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/05/2009 23:04

Are turkey and chickpea burgers soft and 'fall apart in the mouth'y? If so, then recipe please! I love chickpeas.

Ronshar - DH has the fear that she is going to be a pickle until she is three , which looks like a possibility at this stage! I didn't eat any of the dinner as I had a late lunch and ate too much so wasn;t hungry at dinner time. DS was really impressed that I had made the burgers. Have no idea why, we've made burgers plenty of times before!

CSWS - Is D very nosey during the day? M is and won't feed because she wants to know what's going on around her. It makes it really tricky and difficult to get her to sleep. She had 5 hours sleep last night and had a 45 min nap today. Oh and she still only sleeps on me, despite my many attempts to recreate the night time routine for her during the day.

I have to go to bed now. I need to put this rubbish day to bed. I have been very neglectful of you ladies over the last few days and feel very guilty. I promise to be a better MNer after the weekend!

CherryChoc · 21/05/2009 23:14

Hi all. Sorry to hear you're all having sleep troubles. I think we've accidentally got into a bad pattern with Ryan actually, he was such a great sleeper when he was little that I didn't worry about it at all and I've always been really relaxed about routine etc. DH doesn't finish work at the same time every day and most nights I keep Ryan up to eat with us, then let him sleep when he wants, he would usually fall asleep at about 10 or 11 and then I'd bring him upstairs with me when I went to bed any time from then until 1 or 2am, depending on whether I was working or just MNing () and then he'd sleep in in the mornings which was great .

But now I've found I'm having to feed him or rock him to sleep, unless I catch him at exactly the right moment to fall asleep by himself, and I can't put him up to bed on his own as I am needing to go up several times during the evening as he wakes. Am just reading my way through the No Cry Sleep Solution so hopefully it will get sorted soonish. Luckily it's not a major problem for me at the moment.

Honeymoonmummy · 21/05/2009 23:18

I'll have that burger recipe too please! DH loves turkey burgers. I hope you all get more sleep tonight (and I get some after bragging on about Poppy's sleeping skills!!!)

Night all!

ronshar · 21/05/2009 23:21

Get to bed all of you. Its late.
Come on laptops off. Right now.
Love you all

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/05/2009 23:29

Aww crap. Ds awake again. So that's 1 full sleep cycle (1 hr 15 mins).

Was just finishing American Idol ronshar. Will go to bed once we've got him to sleep again, however long that may take.

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 21/05/2009 23:47

well that was quicker than earlier at least.

Ekka · 21/05/2009 23:56

Glad to hear it CSWS! Lets hope he picks this up quickly for your sake...

Why am I still up?!?! I'm working on things for dd's party bags & I just realised the time. Someone make me go to bed please.......

ronshar · 22/05/2009 00:22

Bugger I am still here
CSWS. Get to bed. And you Ekka. Have fun at DDs party.

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/05/2009 07:35

well, he didn't wake me til 5.15, so I fed him then then put him down. He went to start his usual whine, but turned it v quickly into a low moan for a couple of minutes, and then he went off, and is still asleep. Can leave him for up to another hour and then he'll need to get up as we're off to that gym again, this time with friends.

CherryChoc · 22/05/2009 07:52

You were right last night Ronshar, Ryan woke me up at 5.45 this morning, argh! Still I am up now and can do some work while it's quiet.

star6 · 22/05/2009 08:33

ohhh csws!! I wish I logged on to MN last night! We could have supported each other! ha! I did something similar.things are looking better... I just have to tough it out a bit. I stayed in the room with him the whole time (he's still in a cot in our room) but he was in his cot the whole night long... didn't take him out except for a 10 minute feed at 11pm.

star6 · 22/05/2009 08:40

And thank you loulou. I appreciate your advice! And it makes me feel better to know that it's OK for him to go an extended period of time without milk as long as he doesn't want it.

loulou33 · 22/05/2009 09:17

CSWS - well done for last night. I think it doesn't matter what strategy you use, although i like your one, as long as you stick to it. It sounds like he got the idea really quickly last night when he woke again - was he really only awake for 15 mins and then not again until 5.15am? if so, that's brilliant...hope it continues...

Joe woke at 5.30 this morning. It seems alternate mornings he wakes at 7am and then the other he wakes at 5ish. he chatted to himself for 20mins, started to get a bit cross and i was about to go in a feed him but he went quiet and then slept til 7am....glad i was a bit slow in dragging my sorry arse bouncing brightly out of my bed!!

off to clean the house - where are jenwa and star when you need them?

loulou33 · 22/05/2009 09:49

MM - it sounds like martha can't manage very long at all once she has been put down, bless her. Joe would take a good 3 mins to get to the hysterical stage so i started at 2 mins at first. I wonder if she needs the gap to be only 30 sec or so to start with increasing by 30 secs each time so she doesn't get so hysterical? Worth a try

Also csws - have you tried putting towels down the side of d's cot to stop him rolling onto his back if he like being on his tum. Joe is the opposite and easily gets stuck on his tummy if i don't put rolled up towels down each side. Also makes him feel secure i think. he has a stuffed doggy with him and he now cuddles this at bedtime. I have put some expressed milk on it so it smells of me - also worth a try maybe?

aubergenie · 22/05/2009 10:11

Well done CSWS for a decent night. Sorry it was horrible though. I'm sure Loulou is right and it's a case of being completely consistent, whichever method you decide is best for you.

MM- Don't feel bad if M has separation anxiety. If anything, you could see it as a good thing, because it means she has built a good attachment to you and your DH. M is quite socially advanced, isn't she, so it's not really a surprise that she's exhibiting this perhaps earlier than some of the other babies.

We had a disasterous night last night. Ds is full of cold still and was sounding very hoarse when he cried. I've still got a really sore throat and feel pretty crap, so I can only imagine he feels the same as me. He woke up about a thousand times (that's only a slight exaggeration), and I kept feeding him as I thought it might help his throat. I gave up all hopes of keeping a sleep log becuase I was too tired, and anyway, it would have been too depressing.
