Glad your head ok then. I was not sure when you said you were on the malt whiskey how much you would be having, I thought it was very brave of you knowing you had to get up and feed too.
I always use tescos in st peters too for big shops or I get it delivered but sainsburys handy although expensive!

Just popping in.......

Myjob - I get strange white patches on my teeth when I am really dehydrated. They tend to go after a few days and my teeth are fine. Could you be dehydrated? I get a really dry mouth when I have a cold (mouth breathing in the night....ugh) and that often causes it.

aubergenie · 17/05/2009 19:32

I wondered whether it could be a calcium deficiency too, Myjob. It could be worth booking a dental appointment just to check everything's OK. Especially while it's still free. I must do the same.

Ds has a streaming cold today and I think I'm getting it now as I've got a really sore throat. He's fast asleep in his cot now (first night!!), but who knows what will happen later. The last two nights we've gone from lots of short wakings to one long one. Total time awake is about the same, but I'm not sure which is worse.

Glad you're OK today CSWS. I saw your post about the whiskey and thought, ooh this could be messy.

Rhian - congrats on a good night!

star6 · 17/05/2009 19:40

quick question - when can I use my forward facing carseat and ditch this rear facing cradle seat (which is getting increasingly difficult to convince Quinlan to get into... he doesn't really like it!). Is it weight or age? He sits very well on his own, but front facing on has straps anyway to hold him totally in place, so I can't see a reason why I can't put him in that way really... unless it's illegal?

CantSleepWontSleep · 17/05/2009 19:54

In the event of an accident, the wrong car seat can be fatal, which is far worse than being illegal. He needs to weigh 9kg minimum, and be able to sit unsupported for 20 mins.
Ds meets both of these criteria, but I'm leaving him rear facing for as long as poss.

OP posts:
loulou33 · 17/05/2009 20:06

Star - forward facing starts at 9kg - usually 8 months or so (sorry myjob!!). I had Joe weighed and he's 9.5kg so i should have moved him up a while ago i think - oops. Joe hates his car seat but luckliy his brother talks to him and play peek-a-boo to keep him amused. He will love facing forward and i think he's a bit squashed in the other seat. I am planning to try him out in it tomorrow...

CSWS - there is no way i could get out of bed after 2 glasses of wine and whisky. I had half pint of pear cider last night watching Eurovision - the first time in months i have had any alcohol. typically Joe woke at 4.30 and 6.30 so i felt like poo today. DH took the hint and got up with the boys so i had a lie in til 9am.

DS1 had a birthday party this pm and joe loved watching all the games. It was mostly girls there and they all fussed over him and were all lovely and gentle.

I was very jealous of all the pretty party frocks and the one you have chosen MM is lovely - also love the website for boys stuff, bob and blossom stuff is lovely - am off for a browse.

Jenwa - cassoulet is French bean stew cooked slowly in oven. We put onions, mush, peppers, quorn, cannelini beans, stock and spices into casserole and pop in the oven for an hour et voila!!

Myjob - go to your dentist but don't try to brush the patches away as you will damage the enamel with brushing too hard. It could be where the enamel is thinning that is causing the patches. IS it also something to do with flouride - i remenber a girl at school had them on her teeth and iirc correctly she said it was to do with too much or too little flouride (sorry but it was 20 years ago!!)

loulou33 · 17/05/2009 20:34

MM - i have ordered some stuff from that site but it only gives 10% discount not 25%. if your email definitely says 25% i will call them tomorrow and ask for more off. I wanted to order it tonight as its only works til midnight - have you used it? I got some lovely bob and blossom stuff and some small paul stuff for both boys (not matching though as dh would have a fit!!) I only hope i have ordered them large neough for Joe. I am knitting him ajumper but think it may be too small round his tummy by the time i've finished!! its this one

loulou33 · 17/05/2009 20:35

Am knitting this one next.

Marthasmama · 17/05/2009 20:44

Loulou - the discount was for Oh Baby London which is where Aubergenie's baby gro was. You must have discovered a discount code that I didn't know about! Nice one! Little Sunflowers are a fabulous company though. My mum is a really good knitter (I can't knit anymore, I could once but not now) and made the bottom two for ds. She has also knitted the jumper for M. I got her some these labels for her birthday with Handmade by Granny on them.

aubergenie · 17/05/2009 21:18

Lovely jumpers Loulou. I'm a very basic knitter, but love the idea of making some stuff for S. When I was pregnant I had the grand plan of making a lovely blanket for S, but when I went to John Lewis to price up the wool it was going to cost me around £70.

MM- I was going to pre-order that Beefcake suit but there was no information on sizing. Have emailed them to see.

Star - I'm sure I read a few threads about carseats on here and the consensus was that rear-facing was safer, so it was best to do as long as possible. I could be wrong though. Let me try and do a search and see.

CantSleepWontSleep · 17/05/2009 21:21

You're not wrong aubergenie . Rear facing definitely safer.

OP posts:
Marthasmama · 17/05/2009 21:30

It is also recommended that as adults the safest way to travel on public transport is rear facing. It does make sense if you think about it. I am planning to keep M rear facing for as long as possible.

Aubergenie - Remember to make sure they still give you the discount as it's not your fault you couldn't order as they had not provided the information you needed.

aubergenie · 17/05/2009 21:32

I thought so CSWS. I think in Scandinavia they have to keep children in rear-facing till they're quite old don't they? Star - I'm rushing a bit now, and couldn't find anything for you now. If I manage to come across it again for you I'll link.

Marthasmama · 17/05/2009 21:39

Here is something not sure how relevant as I haven't read it all. Here is some more info for you.

F*ing hell! I have obviously just decided that I need to get a rear facing seat for M until she is 4 but the only ones I can find start at £300! I'll never convince DH......

Marthasmama · 17/05/2009 21:56

Myjob - Just a thought, you could try some of this and this. They have worked a treat on the tiny little chip I had on my front tooth. The dentist recommended the mouthwash to avoid having a tooth filled.

star6 · 18/05/2009 08:46

Thanks csws myjob and loulou. i will keep him rear facing. Would definitely rather be safe - you know me.... your words of warning definitely taken to heart, and like MM, Q will be rear facing until he can no longer physically fit that way! He is 19lbs now and can sit unsupported for longer than 20 minutes, but don't want to have him unsafe in the car, so will keep him in that seat!

heather1980 · 18/05/2009 09:01

iirc they should be rear facing till their head reaches the top of the seat. dd was about 9 months when she went forward facing. i'm going to get alex the same seat she has which is the maxicosi priorifix. it came top in the which safety tests.

i'm v tired today. dd was up at 11pm, she has a cold and woke up hot and sweaty, then alex was up at 1am and 5am. never mind.

alex pulled himself to his feet yesterday mind you once he got there he had no idea what to do and was just stood there for ages, he hasn't worked out how to move his feet just yet.

we went to the pil for dinner yesterday and mil was fasinated by alex eating, she said he was like a feral child rooting round for food

Rhian82 · 18/05/2009 10:00

Does anyone have any recommendations for next stage car seats? My parents have kindly said they'll get us one, and though it's obviously not an issue yet (DS just 7 months, 7.2kg) I'd like to start researching so we know which one we want.

After three good nights (sleeping until 5am, 5am, 7am), DS chose last night to wake at 2.30 and not settle properly until 4.30. DH had work this morning, and I'd gone to bed at 1.30am as I've got a load of freelance work due in today. Trying to finish it off now and very tired! (And DS now grumbling in his rockey chair trying to fall asleep).

bethoo · 18/05/2009 10:05

hello ladies, it has been a long time since i was here, just thought i would say hi and hope you are all well.
as you know i have a new man and going really well so have had no time to myslef what wiht new man and two kiddies under 2! which brings me to my next subject! i ma pregnant again but not too excited as did not find out til this weekend after having a bleed (thought was af) for hte past three weeks after being late! so no idea what is going on, no idea how far gone if i am still pregnant. hopefully the dr will book me in for a scan ot see what is going on!
ref car seats, rear facing are the safest and recommended that you keep your baby in one for as long as they fit iykwim. my son was in it til 13 months as he was tiny anyway. he is 2 now and still wears 12 months clothes! lol

heather1980 · 18/05/2009 10:24

hello bethoo, we were wondering where you were. tentative congrats, my you are brave!

bethoo · 18/05/2009 10:30

heather thanks, i called dr so should get a call back this afternoon and take it from there. i am not too optimistic but then we were not going to try til july anyway, my sister is gong to freak as i am her bridesmaid in august and hope that if this pregnancy sticks i can still fit into the dress LOL
i do not know where i will fit this new one in as barely have a minute ot myslef, if the children arent wanting attention/feeding/changing then the other half is!!
