Its my birthday today. Sadly at work but get to leave at 4 so that's nice. Hope everyone is having a good day.

alkar · 12/06/2009 10:46

Happy birthday strawberry!!!!

Meant to say hope your DSs results are ok (can't tell you how many times sweat tests have been insufficient, we need a better test).

strawberrycornetto · 12/06/2009 13:18

Thanks Alkar. I hope its ok. If we have to repeat, I will be dressing him in 10 layers and a winter coat to ensure sweating!!

bob (robert) born 2.55am thurs 11th here at home. it went so well, better than i could have ever imagined.

bob all healthy, weighed in at 8lb. looks less like a wrinkly old man by the hour. he has opened his eyes a total of maybe six times in the 56hours he's been in this world..

dd has taken it all in her stride. woke at 5am the day he was born as midwives left. came in our room pointed at bob and said delightedly "baby!" then saw the toast by me and gave me an even happier "toast!" so far she mainly tries to tickle him. she also points at bits of his face and very solemnly tries to say what they are .

hardest bit so far has been feeding, but my milk came in today and the last couple of feeds have been so much less painful. dh has been wonderful.

am going to write one of those painstakingly smug me-and-my-wonderful-homebirth stories in the birth announcements bits when i get a moment will link here when i do.

happy birthday strawb, hope you had a lovely day. glad you had such a good time on holiday and sorry that the sweat test results didnt get you any nearer an answer.

missnat - thinking of you and henley. hope things have taken a turn for the better since you last posted

rozzyraspberry · 14/06/2009 07:08

CONGRATULATIONS SWOTTY!!!! Have been thinking of you. I'm so glad it went well for you and you got the birth you wanted. Can't wait to see some pictures xxx

elliepac · 14/06/2009 07:59

Congratulations swotty. Despite sayng no more no more, I always find myself a little broody when I hear of lovely new babies. Sounds as if you had a lovely birth (a little jealous!)

missnat - sounds as if you've had a horrible time with henley, I hope he is feeling better.

happy birthday sc, and I hope you get some answers soon with all those tests.

DD has turned into the devil child this week. She's been really agressive, slapping anyone who comes near her. Not sure what to do really. In particular DS keeps getting a beating. He is so sweet natured that he just takes it. She's also been really grumpy. She's been waking really early so I suppose that might have something to do with it. I think I am paying for the mild smugness I exuded during her first year when she was a wonderful baby . It is now coming back to bite me on the bum.

Am also absolutely shattered myself. School has been crazy these last couple of weeks but my Year 11's have finally left so hopefully that will mean things will calm down a bit. Oh yeah, and my washing machine blew up so am having to take all washing to mums and mils house which is a real pita! Got to wait till wednesday for them to come out but I suspect they may tell me it's unrepairable, £300 for a new washing machine I could do without .

Anyway, enough ranting. Congrats to swotty again and hope you are all well (waves to everyone else)

Congratulations swotty xx

alkar · 15/06/2009 14:22

DS had his MMR this morning, he screamed when the 2nd needle went in . Does anyone remember when the temperature starts to go up? I have been told to give DS the max amount of paracetamol / ibuprofen because of his febrile convulsions but I just wondered when to expect the temp????

Egg · 15/06/2009 16:04

Huge congrats to lovely Swotty well done you did fantastically! And I love the name Bob (it was on our shortlist for DS1). Off to read your birth announcement shortly. Really hope feeding is continuing to go ok and DD is enjoying her little bro.

Alkar really hope your DS is ok after his MMR. DD cried but DS2 somehow (despite being more of a crybaby generally than DD) didn't! Anyhow mine never had a raised temp afterwards, but DD did get the "fake" measles thing two weeks later and was quite poorly, and her temp was up then, as well as red eyes, rash etc. DS2 (and also DS1) never really seemed to have a reaction I don't think. You may have already but I would start a thread as lots of people will be able to help. Hope his temp stays down.

loobyt · 15/06/2009 21:32

Congratulatons Swotty! xx

strawberrycornetto · 15/06/2009 21:37

Yay, congratulations Swotty and welcome to baby Bob : ) Makes me think of my friend's DS - Bob is his first and only word so far I am so glad it went well for you, enjoy your little man!!

elliepac · 16/06/2009 07:07

Alkar, DD had her MMR three weeks ago. The reaction came about 10 days later. She had a fever and was very grumpy. Hope DS is ok and his temp stays down.

mitfordsisters · 16/06/2009 22:35

Hello Feb 08 mums; I haven't posted for yonks as it was one of the things I stopped doing when I returned to work - along with cleaning the house ;-)

Congrats Swotty you brilliant thing!!

We're okay - having a few days in Devon with mil - only one major row which counts as quite good really. Sun also shining - hurrah.

Hector had his MMR and the reaction came after a week - he was hot and rashy for 24 hours.

GReat to catch up on the news - will try to post more regularly.

elliepac · 16/06/2009 22:50

mitford sisters i am glad i am not the only one who stopped cleaning the house when she returned to work

swottybetty · 16/06/2009 22:58

hiya all. lovely to hear from you mitfords - have a great holiday

re measles, we are in the middle of something similar to egg's dd. 8 days after injection we started getting spots. the spots are still with us (have got slightly worse but not significant. (lots on tummy and a few on face, we are on day 11 now) but the temp was only on day 9 and seems to have gone. poor love isnt sleeping great tho' - i'd put her red eyes down to tiredness, had not realised it might be part of the measles parcel,

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 17/06/2009 11:37

Grat to hear form you Mitfords, How are you and you family?

we have uyet another tummy bug, yesterday was me, then DS starting being sick, now he had D&V and DD being sick too!!!!!i love my children !!!!!!

i have a problem though- took annual leave at work as it was DS who was ill, now i have it too but cannot go to work with D&V but really donot want to call in sick as i am an a crap process to monitor sickness!!!!!!i was off in nov with a bug, then the flu in december- has a day off in march as i had hurt my back in the garden and they are saying i have had too much time offf!!!!!(working for the nhs can be crap sometimes!!!!)

i cant do much about it, policy says we cannot return to work until no syptoms for 48 hours!!!!!

Congrats swotty Poor you sarah. Hp all ok in middle of class at mo just having a quick catch up!

Gill79 · 18/06/2009 22:31

Congratulations Swotty! So exciting to have another baby on the thread. Must be so wierd to be back at the beginning again! (BTW your DD sounds like she's very advanced with her speaking. Look forward to reading the whole story. Well done for the home birth too.

Bad luck Sarah. The NHS does sound awful to work for in many ways Sarah. If you're ill you're ill. And they really shouldn't be encouraging people to come in with nasty bugs. A lot of employers give you a limit of several months sick leave.

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 20/06/2009 14:39

Hows it going Swotty? Hope you all managing ok xxxx

OP posts:
alkar · 21/06/2009 19:41

How are you feeling now sarah?

DS has a temp again today but seems ok. He had his MMR last monday so I guess we could be seeing signs of it affecting him now. I'll just check on him loads tonight. He had croup again on Thursday, came out of nowhere, he seems to get the barking cough a few days before he gets a runny nose so we never have any warning!!!

How's your DS strawberry, I saw another thread you were on.

DS can now say ball although he says it like a southerner and we live in Wigan . So thats now 3 words, hiya, ta and ball!!!

Gill79 · 21/06/2009 20:44

Malcolm says "bool" for ball. I think the vowels are quite tricky for them Alkar. And daisy, haahoo (haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahoo with a very cute big wide mouth), bread, cheese, bubble, bath and poo. And of course daddy and the range of animal names / noises (now limited to duck for any bird or water and mmff mmff for any four legged animal)

He's absolutely obsessed with in the night garden at the moment. We can't even say the name as he runs to the tv and has a tantrum. The webiste is v good btw - very interactive - and if you've got a webcam you can see yourself in the ninkynonk.

He had a bit of an upset yesterday - I put him down for his nap and after a while he started crying and I left him for about 10 minutes before going in with more milk. He was in a hysterical state standing at the end of the bed pointing at the sheets and saying "poo.... poo..... poo". Yes there was all over him and all over his sheets. He was just so traumatised by it and I felt so guilty for leaving him to cry. When I'd changed the bedding and brought him in to put him back to bed he leaned right over to look in the bed and was amazed to see no poo. When he woke up the first thing he said was poo and he kept pointing at the mattress all day and saying it - beginning to feel quite proud of himself I think!

Anyway hope everyone's well - we had an ok but not very exciting weekend - managed a run and a climbing session today which is just as well as the post-30th-diet is going spectacularly badly!

Swotty hope all is good with you on the very rare chance that you've got any time to come on here at the moment!

Have a good week everyone!
