Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Judd · 19/06/2005 11:49

Pool???? Do you mean you have your own swimming pool or do you mean paddling pool (£1.87 in Tesco at the moment, bargain hunters!)

Judd · 19/06/2005 11:51

Sorry Susi, forgot to say hope DS is better soon. You don't want to be carrying him far when it's this warm and you are in your condition.

Bozza · 19/06/2005 12:12

You lot all seem to be in a jolly mood. Is the heat affecting you? Had disagreement with DH yesterday - pre-holiday stress, lack of time to pack that kind of thing. I had invited DS's friend for a sleepover and he had got an extra game of golf to play (so 1.5 rounds this weekend). DS and his friend no trouble - well only as much trouble as DS on his own. DD crawling all over me, unpacking everything I pack, incredibly sweaty and grumpy but he can't see this is what is holidng me up. So now I took DS's friend back and she (his Mum) offered to have DS for an hour, DD gone to bed exhausted with fan on full wack and DH still at golf (went out 7.30) and what am I doing? Packing? No. Sweating? Yes because I haven't opened the window in here because I was "only" popping in to check the weather forecast for northern France for next week - v. hot btw.

Bozza · 19/06/2005 12:13

Oh and Susi agree with Judd's last post. You must be struggling in the heat.

Judd · 19/06/2005 17:26

Bozza - have you seen all the French phrases we have typed for you to aid you on your travels?
I am nursing a DH-related grudge at the moment to do with difference in opinion as to how he should spend this week when he is off work. Basically my week stays exactly the same, taking children to Toddlers, park and preschool whilst he has three days doing gardening stuff, one day taking DD to Gullivers Kingdom and one day having a jolly of his own. I don't work, so evidently I don't get holidays (confused but don't want to rock the boat type face)

kbaby · 19/06/2005 21:58

You lot have been chatting loads!

DD is still on bottles for her milk. She has 7oz in morning and bedtime and drinks water through the day in a lidded cup or a normal plastic beaker. I should really think about getting rid of the bottles. When can I stop boiling water for her to drink?
Also anyone else lo still waking at night, anyone... please...(desperate sounding voice)
DD has been grumpy today I think the heat is bothering her, shes clingy and wouldnt play in her paddling pool to cool down and insisted on being carried everywhere even when I tried to cook dinner. DH has been useless and said that DD would be better off playing in the garden with me. When I came back in the house he was sleeping on the settee umphh I did forget his fathers day card until 6pm oopss.
I realised today how many words DD can actually say. She says; in there, there it is, there they are, cat, henry, woof, cukoo, bird, sam the dog, oh dear, up a daisy, uh oh, all gone, boo, quack, quack, ta and bye.
Ive been keeping a baby book and writing a diary every month about her development and nice things we have done. Ive also put pictures and hand prints etc in there.

spots · 19/06/2005 22:15

Hmmm. we are lucky, not so hot here. Just muggy but a bit of rain today. DD has been hilarious. I was pretending to burp on her bottom and she was in fits of laughter. Do you think maybe I am just glad to have someone around to laugh at my childish humour? well... yes.

Kbaby I can't remember when I last boiled water for DD. Her immune system gets a fair old workout in this house I reckon.

Judd I have the same argument with DH every weekend. He will say on Friday night: 'I think I will go cycling this weekend, and do (xyz) in the garden, and do a bit of (his hobby involving chip oil in the garden shed)'. I now just lift an eyebrow at him and he knows I am referring to That Problem I Have With Him Having Fun. The garden is such a trump card too, because it is supposedly a chore and its upkeep benefits the whole household (as if DD cares). But I would love to just get on with any number of curtain making, door brass polishing, shoe cupboard building tasks if only DD didn't need parenting!

I mustn't grumble actually because he has been v. mindful of this recently and today I got to lie in till 9.00. But I do know the problem! If he liked golf as well, blimey, I think I might take the breadknife to him! Bozza, we have a golf course near us and I always wonder why they start playing so early in the morning? Your DH started playing at 7.30... what's that for, then?

When are you off on holiday?

Judd · 19/06/2005 22:50

Spots, do you raise your eyebrown quizzically? I've ALWAYS wanted to do that!
Yes, his main argument for the week is that he will be doing all the gardening etc. and the hard stuff and cannot have children around. I don't think he realises that sometimes I would love a couple of hours off from childcare even if it was only to weed the garden! Just to concentrate on a task without worrying about somebody eating gravel, needing a wee, pulling their hat off etc. Pah and bah and gah.

SusiS · 20/06/2005 06:48

omg judd, pool?!?! i wish - naww, jus a paddling pool but good enough for me to stick my feet in - especially in this heat a godsend - legs/feet were very swollen over the weekend!!!!
lucas foot is a bit betterer; he managed to walk quite a fair bit yesterday!
but the mmr hit him - he had 39.6 temp yday! very whingy day! - luckily it's a bit cooler today, so that might help!

kbaby: i stopped boiling water with 11 months; i just thought since he was putting soil in his mouth there is no need in 'overcleanliness' (is that correct???) - and once he even had a lick on a snail
was fairly easy to swap to a cup (with milk) once we've found the 'right' cup that is

guess i am lucky with my dp! he does look alot after lucas! somehow he prefers playing with him to all the chores that need doing
and cooking with ds around?? naww, nevva! that one is easy - 'if you don't look after him there won't be any dinner'!

helsy · 20/06/2005 12:48

Hello. Off sick today, I have dd2's tummy bug I think. I'm debating whether to pop in for a meeting I really should be at this afternoon but I do feel very rough.

DH bitch alert- he was a bit rubbish this weekend - Friday after work he went for a trip to Nottingham to see tennis and visit family, came back 9pm Saturday night, had breakfast in bed yesterday morning and did NOTHING all day on the grounds that it was father's day and he was hot, apparently. Didn't mind that really, except I was hot too, and his doing nothing seemed to mean he either lay on the bed or sat outside reading the paper and didn't even play with the girls. Humph.

Dd2 seems better but isn't weeing much - Dr says it's because she was off her food for a couple of days. Kbaby, impressed with the number of words your baby can say!

SusiS glad your baby is a bit better now.

spots · 20/06/2005 20:31

Poor you helsy. What a lot of BAD DH's as well. Boo to the boys and hooray for the girls.

DD has been for her MMR and so that's that. She has had a very good day in the sun apart from that. She was in such a good mood after a 3 hour sleep this morning! Is tending towards just one mammoth sleep atm, which is fine by me. Anyway, it was so sweet, she had a rare minute of playing alone while I bought jigsaws for her on ebay. What playing alone means at the moment is sitting in the middle of a semicircle of books and pointing at all the things she knows about, going 'ee ee' for the mouse, 'beeee' for the picture of the bees chasing the fox in 'Rosie's Walk' & so on. Then she sat very still for a moment and said 'pooo' very seriously and sure enough she had done a big pee on the carpet (nappy free time). I was impressed.

to continue on the toilet theme, she has spent much of today garlanded in my pants, as she has a real thing for dragging them out the laundry basket and slinging them around her neck. Especially the really old saggy ones from my pg days. I ought to stop her, a terrible accident could occur...

spots · 20/06/2005 20:34

clean ones! clean ones!

spots · 22/06/2005 17:09

Gor, quiet in here, innit? I wasn't wanting to be the next poster after my recent verbal diahorrea but what the hell.

DD has been off colour since her MMR. Last night she slept fitfully, with a temp, and eventually I had to bring her into our bed as every time she drifted off she woke herself by jumping out of her skin. She would only sleep in the safety of a cuddle. I would have been anxious, except the Calpol bottle mentioned 'post immunisation fever' as if it was totally normal, so I am not. She's better today really, and we just had friends round to lunch with their girl the same age.

Helsy, hope you feel better.

Judd · 22/06/2005 19:29

Spots - just quickly wanted to say you are right not to worry about MMR after effects as long as they are in line with what the blurb says. DS had his a week last Tuesday and now has a little red rash which is either MMR related or heat. In himself he is as happy as can be (and when you're naked in a paddling pool being offered licks of Mini Milk, you can be pretty happy!)
I have had a holiday haircut and bought a tankini - hey, we're off to Tenby! Unsure as to whether I am being foolish and mutton dressed as lamb.
Concerned that in our excitement over French practice, we actually forgot to say Bon Voyage to Bozza

Judd · 22/06/2005 21:20

Oh go on Spots! You know you want to post one little message before Grand Frere starts

kbaby · 22/06/2005 22:15

I think the only reason DD says so much is because she gets to hear so much of me or mil talking non stop all day. The poor thing gets a runing commentry of everything I do. IE "Shall we get a spoon out now for your dinner, yes we'll have the yellow one is it? now lets go and sit down and eat it all up" You get the picture, she sprobably thinking if she talks at least she wont have to listen to us all day.
MIL took her to the gp yesterday as she is still grumpy, he said he thinks its chicken pox. Today she has a rash but to me it looks like a heat rash so im not sure if it is cp. Just ordered a ear thermometer off the internet because she wont let me put the forehead one on and trying to keep her armpit down for the digital one is proving difficult.
God its hot today its 28c in DD's room now

Prufrock · 23/06/2005 08:00

Nope kbaby -I have verbal diahorrea too, and ds's vocab is still limited to "ung". Although he has managed a few "mummummum" recently - though all in response to being given berries!

We move house in only 7 days .

Now I know I complained all the way through my last pregancy. And I know I said lots about how this would be the last one, but I'm kind of reconsidering...... Would having 3 children really be too ridiculous?

spots · 23/06/2005 09:08

Oh yay Prufrock, fill your new house! I think 3 is a great number of kids if you have the space for them.

I said to someone last night ( I was OUT! so no GF for me, judd... hope it was deathly dull) that DH and I were sort of trying for #2. which I suppose is correct really, except for the fact that I have no periods yet so... is it just 'sexercise'...? or am I allowed a sense of optimism?

SusiS · 23/06/2005 09:28

oh yessss, lots and lots of new babies

kbaby, i talk all the time too!!!! but still ds doesn't talk much (mainly sounds for things), but he does understand alot!

ohhhh prufrock, how exciting. hope it goes smootly for you

spots, ds is the same. had high temp a week after mmr (gone now) but a rash all over his body - he doesn't seem to be bothered though. - and at your 'clean' pants!

helsy: how are you today? hope you feel better - and grrrrrrrrrrr at your dh

we finally got an offer on our old house!!!! survey has been done so the ball is rolling rolling rolling!!
can't wait for the money to come in; then we can live like kings again

SusiS · 23/06/2005 09:28

oh, did we decide on a date yet????

GeorginaA · 23/06/2005 09:45

You're all insane My two Atillas are more than enough for me

Talking of which, ds2 is MISERABLE at the moment. Don't know if it's the heat, the remains of the cold he's battling off, the eye infection he's got (Brolene eye drops, I love you), teething or some mystery illness he's going down with. Only thing I know is he's not himself.

Other than that, not much news in the GeorginaA residence, hence the quietness...

OP posts:
Judd · 23/06/2005 12:48

Noooooooo! No more babies - no room, no money, no time, very little patience to go round anyway
Just taken DS to toddler group (DD gone to funfair with DH) and was approached on my way by young, keen looking boy who asked if he could cut my hair for free. Would have been up for it....if I hadn't had my hair cut yesterday! Obviously I'm working my new look well! Pah.
I talked and talked to DD, read to her, pointed out things to her, sang to her...and she still didn't talk until 2y8m. We are therefore over the moon at DS's "ungle ungle laaaaaaaaaa"
As DD is out for the day, I now have 1.5 hours ALL TO MYSELF whilst DS has his sleep. Am foolishly excited over this. May put on tankini and sit in back garden in hammock.

helsy · 23/06/2005 22:36

Judd - Love Tenby. I also have a tankini! (Two, actually). I look like a tank in mine. We're going to a hotel then to stay with friends this weekend. The hotel has a pool and I realise that my post-baby body is not really ready to be sprung (or is it flopped?) onto the unsuspecting public just yet.

My tummy bug has cleared up thanks, but DH had it yesterday, although after his recent behaviour he didn't dare wallow too much.

The hotel also has a creche but I'm nervous about putting the baby in it. Would anyone else let their baby go in a hotel creche? DH has suggested we leave dds there and have a jacuzzi and a swim.

Dd2 is making lots of animal noises but not doing much speaking. I don't speak to her half as much as I did to Dd1 who now doesn't shut up - ever. Last week I told her I was fed up with her not finishing her meals and she said "but I always finish my sentences, mummy." She's FIVE.
Dd2 isn't eating much at all at the moment - I think its the heat. She is drinking though.Think we'll keep on with the formula until she's eating a bit more. Has anyone tried that toddler milk? Dh bought some home yesterday. It's for 1 - 3 yrs apparently.

No more babies over here thanks but if it wasn't for my propensity for hyperemesis and my ancientness I'd probably have gone for three, Prufrock.

Judd · 23/06/2005 23:07

Helsy, I would use a hotel creche! See if they have a tannoy system into the gym area, or how they would contact you if they needed to. You could book them in for a time when DD2 is perky and not hungry...even just for an hour for a swim and jacuzzi.
Ds's favourite toy at the moment is a shoe box with a big hole cut in the lid. He likes posting pegs, bricks etc. into it. He also spent a long time this afternoon movning pegs from one chair onto another one by one. When he is in favour (not often ) DD will sometimes let him take all her plastic money out of her money box and try and post it back in by himself. He's not got the fine finger control to do that yet, and does sneak the odd one into his mouth from time to time!

spots · 24/06/2005 10:25

Yes DD also loves to post (almost as much as her mother does on mumsnet )... her slot of choice is between cot side and wall, so when we move the cot we find shoes, bears, junk mail and all sorts on the floor there.

Helsy... your DD1 sounds like a class act.

DD has discovered how to walk with the baby walker. She goes around the house at an angle of 45 degrees to the floor accompanied by lots of 'wow's at her own prowess.

What is there at Tenby that makes it such a draw? have never heard of it!
