I have spotted her, she was lured out by a thread about cameras! hello G if you are lurking. I am an awful worrier, and tend to imagine terrible things if someone hasn't been spotted for a while. How would we know, here?

talking of worries DD has another appointment for MMR tomorrow and I might take her after having a terrible dream about her catching measles in the train. The dream had a little song in it (in invented dream French!) which keeps running through my head...

spots · 12/06/2005 21:13

love Incy Wincy here too helsy!

Bozza · 12/06/2005 21:29

Lots to catch up on. Judd I wouldn't normally say snicket but its the sort of word my parents would use. Spots sounds like you had a lovely time and DD especially. I think the advantage of going on this holiday is that it is not self catering so a) I don't have to cook for 12 days!!!! (last time this happened was my honeymoon) and b) there is a bar so we can take the baby monitor and leave the kids in the room. Helsy we've been plagued with molluscum too. DS had a very bad case (lots of them) on the back of his leg around the knee with one or two in other areas. He is now left with just one on his side (and lots of scar/scabs which I think will fade). DD has got them all over her torso but not so many in one place and hers seem to be going quicker. She has some though in the creases of her groin which I am a bit concerned about.

Went to Harewood House today with SIL, BIL and nephew. Unfortunately got rained off. But all 3 kids had a great time. At one point in the cafe DS started playing up a bit but I think that was because the babies in their high chairs were getting so much attention. Then because of getting rained off went to a shopping outlet place. Then home where DD was in one of her roughest moods. Am off to bed now because still very tired.

helsy · 12/06/2005 21:42

Bozza, sorry to hear yours have molluscum too. Dd2 had one large one on her vulva a few weeks ago and GP sent us to hospital to get it removed as he wasn't sure what it was, but the Drs there said there was no need and it's almost gone now but she does have a few spots/ lumps round that area and I think it's just spread. Keeping an eye on it anyway.

I thought I saw Georgina on another thread recently?

We have no "real" holiday booked as we're skint after buying the house and we REALLY splashed out on our 40th birthdays recently - we're housesitting for a week in August for friends near Melton Mowbray - hardly exotic I know, but we have lots of trips planned and it's a fabulous house! I have family in North Wales so we'll be going up there I expect, and I'm still hoping I can persuade DH that camping in France won't bankrupt us. Also have another possible houseswap/sit.

Shame you have to move if you're happy where you are, Egypt. We moved when we didn't really have to but I'm glad we did now because 4 bedrooms is definitely better than 3 - more room to put the junk! I'm sitting in what we laughingly refer to as "the playroom" or "the study" if we're feeling posh, with my feet crunched up because of all the toys around that I can't be *ed to clear away. That woman from house doctor would definitely say this room needed it's own identity.

SusiS · 12/06/2005 21:42

wow, your kids are all very busy!!!
ds' walking is getting better by the day - but don't ask about bumps and bruises - stopped counting them

was in a cooking mood today and made half courgettes with garlic and bacon/sourcream filling, topped with quickly fried chicken stripes and cheese on top - ds had a big portion of that for dinner , and a pot jelly with fruits!!! - he can eat for england

his sleeping is allright: 7pm-6ish am; could do with a bit longer in the morning, but hey - we moved away from 5am!!!!

bump is growing and i actually got some energy back - or is it just that silly nesting instinct that makes me clean everything????

he also had his MMR last friday - been told it can take 7-10 days! so fingers crossed!!!

aww spots, that sounds like a lovely party you've been to

helsy, hope your job situation gets sorted positivly!!!!

Linnet · 12/06/2005 22:10

Hi everyone,

Ok, I don't know where or when this meet up is, but unless it's in tayside somewhere you should assume that I'm unable to go, sorry folks.

Well, aren't all these babies coming along well?

I have a holy terror on my hands, I can honestly say if dd2 had been the first baby there wouldn't have been any more!

On Sat May 28th, she managed to fall out of the cot! Have no idea exactly how she managed it but she was fine, just got a fright and gave me and dh one as well and she hasn't tried it again since, thank god.

she has managed to figure out how to get out of the highchair even though she's been tightly tied in.

and her temper is something else if she doesn't get her own way. She also lashes out and pushes dd1 away and pulls her hair.

But she also has very sweet moments where she does cuddle dd1 and if she finds the hairbrush she tries to brush her hair and dd1's and mine. On Friday she had a baby wipe and she wiped my face for me, LOL it was so funny.

Her walking is great and she's actually trying to run sometimes. I'm not trying to show off here to all you mothers of non walkers, be a little bit thankful that they're not walking yet, I'd gladly swap some days. She tries to run after dd1 but just falls over as her balance for running isn't that great yet.

We had to buy a stairgate to put across the kitchen door as she comes in and opens all the doors and drawers, low down drawer. The kitchen isn't that big so you spent most of your time tripping over her so she's now banished to the living room. Where she stands at the gate and licks the bars? Very odd child.

Talking is mostly, Dada, Eeeaaa for dd2, occasionally I'll get mummy. She can say baba for baby and occasionally manages to say baby properly. But mostly it's just all babble. She can do a sign for all gone and she shakes her head no, but not at the right times but she's trying.

Haven't had a date through for the MMR yet. I was going to delay until she was 18 months but we're going away in October when she's 17 months and I'd hate for her to catch something while we're away, although chances are probably quite slim I worry about these things. Going to take her to get weighed in Wednesday, the clinic was shut the week before and after her birthday and I didn't manage to get there last week. So the plan is to go this week and see how much she weighs to put it in the baby book.

Going to go now as I think that's all my news. dd1 has sports day tomorrow so I've taken a days holiday and it's forecast for rain, oh joy

talk to you all again soon

Linnet

Sorry all, just haven't had much to say for myself recently. Been busy, been scaling down my mumsnet time... I have been lurking on and off though

And you know me... can never resist a camera thread...

Love to all the not-so-babes!

Hello everyone.

Woah Linnet, DD sounds like a little Houdini! DS is getting an expert at tantrums too. He won't go past our record player in the hall without me putting it on for him, otherwise it's a full on paddy.

We've finally made a decision on the MMR. Nothing through the post yet though. We've decided to go for it.

This and this made us feel a lot better

I've decided it's time to really try with weaning onto a sippy cup but DS has other ideas. He's decided that only a bottle will do. So far, he has his morning milk in a bottle and the bedtime one, too. I was going to try and give him the morning one from a cup but then I think he'd hardly have any fluids all day. He doesn't much like water, or juice. He doesn't like anything from a sippy of doidy cup, including milk. It was going quite well to start with but now I'm starting to worry he won't be getting enough fluids unless he's still having a bottle at 5 years old!

We now have 800 ball pool balls! We had 3 hundred for DS's birthday and the pool looked like it needed a few more. Some friends that were at DS's birthday saw this and turned up with 300 this week. Then 2 days later, MIL surprised us with 300 more! It's so nice of them. So, DS has 800 ball pool balls and mummy and daddy have a very full shed!

Take care everyone.

Ponka · 13/06/2005 11:09

Hmmmm. Need practice with counting before DS gets old enough to bring home homework. That's 900 balls, not 8.

egypt · 13/06/2005 12:24

lol at your balls ponka!

where's twiglett?

nice to hear from you all, especially linnet, who's not posted for a bit.

we cant get the extension due to planning restrictions. we are under the listing of the farm, although not a listed building in itself. we are also so short of cash at the mo i think i may have to do a few days supply teaching to get us through. thing is i dont want to put dd in nursery really, and my parents and family are so far away. i guess my mum would come and stay for a few days. ugh, hate to think about it. it's like scraping together all the spare coppers to buy a loaf od bread time in order to prevent getting another tenner out of the bank. honest!

went to tiddly winks toddler group in the village this morning, for the first time. dd was by far the youngest there. there were painting and drawing areas, lego, free play with bikes and cars etc. she loved it. got bashed a few times and ate some paint but we came away with a drawing which basically mummy did and a painted stone with goggly eyes. good fun. she is asleep in the car now of course.

cat82 · 13/06/2005 13:15

Hi everyone,

Wow, busy few days again. Took Kiera to london on Friday!!!!! I was terrified but she was an angel, loved the train ride and liked the underground as well!
Then dp arrived home again on Friday night and i went back to london the next morning at the crack of dawn to meet my mother on my own!
I got back yesterday evening and went straight to bed, so tired. Then dp woke me at again 8.00pm with dinner
My cold from hell has finaly got better, it seemed to go on for ages and kiera has been bunged up as well.

Egypt- Wow dd is eating loads!!

Okay gona go for now and eat lunch while kiera is napping. Speak to you all soon.

xxxx

helsy · 14/06/2005 10:04

Wow - day off today ON MY OWN, and I'm so sad I'm on mumsnet! Just waiting for plumber to fix dripping tap then I'm off shopping - for me! And no I don't feel bad about putting dd2 in nursery. All right then, I do. A bit.
It's our 3rd wedding anniversary today. We got married in a hotel in Cheshire at 4pm on a Friday evening and went to Verona - alone - the next day (dd1 was 2 at the time). Aaaaah.
Monsoon here I come......

Libb · 14/06/2005 10:23

Helsy, don't feel guilty because then I would have to . . . I am off for the next 4 days and intend to blitz the house ready for ex's parents coming over. We may not be together anymore but I still have a little pride in keeping the house straight - one big, fat, stupid old git who doesn't know his bum from his elbow is enough for this house!!!(blimey that felt good . . .)

I am also spending the time to up the anti (?) on this rehousing business and nag the powers that be - I can concentrate on it all and know that DS is having a good time at the childminder's house with his girlfriends.

Things have been getting a bit ugly round here so I really need to start prodding a bit harder.

It is also my birthday on Thursday so fully intend to meet friends and have a good time! Cat (and anyone else!) you are welcome to come along if you are around? I am not sure of what day I will be coming into Cambridge, I shall see how my home improvement plans come along! (not very fast at this rate)

Love to you all xxxx

egypt · 14/06/2005 11:47

libb i think the mumsnet meetup is in cambridge isnt it? is that too far for you? enjoy your days to yourselves libb and helsy. not that i am jealous . when i say i dont want to put dd into nursery, i mean i kind of do but for selfish reasons really. i envy those of you that do it though. still considering.

its father's day this weekend AND mil's birthday and pil's anniversary. so much expense. arrrrgggh

Ponka · 14/06/2005 13:59

Helsy and Libb. Make the most of it.

Happy Anniversary, Helsy.

helsy · 14/06/2005 16:19

Looks like the day off is over. It was nice, though! Now have to have a bath, pick up 2 dds and bring them home, make tea for them, blitz the house as babysitter is a local mum and I don't want her saying her boy can't play at our house because it's dirty - or shall I just not bother? Oh all right then, just the loo and the kitchen. Bought a leather jacket from New Look (not one of my usual shopping places until recently) - looks like it cost more than it did, my favourite type of purchase. It was VERY hard to resist buying baby clothes instead of getting myself something with a limited budget - anyone else get that?
Libb, I'm sorry things aren't going too well but you sound as though you're on to it. Four days off, though! Even when you're doing stuff it's nice to have the space, isn't it?
I'm hoping to work three days a week from September so I'll have two days with dd2 - can't wait.

Libb · 14/06/2005 18:45

Helsy, Sorry I meant to wish you happy anniversary for today too xxx

Eygpt, getting into Cambridge isn't too much trouble so long as the bus is buggy friendly - it takes about an hour with the villages to peruse

How come a work day doesn't go by so quickly? I will contact the council tomorrow, and visit the doctor about a sore throat I can't shift. I am just stupidly tired at the moment but I did manage to cut the privet hedge back, people can walk on the pavement again.

spots · 14/06/2005 19:03

Today has been such a nice day with DD that I'm not ing Helsy and Libb their time off, though normally I would! Esp at the moment as our c/minder is on holiday. But no I do not mind! We are care free, and carefree. This morning a sponsored toddle in the park. Well, DD can't toddle but it was fun nevertheless. All the mums complained that the toddlers were so greedy, eating chocolate crispie cakes and flapjacks, but we'd brought such a picnic..... Two circuits of the football field with all of the wee ones bickering over whose ball was whose. DD now takes active part in these arguments. 'No-no-no-no' she huffs with a pink face and trumpet lips. This afternoon we went to a friend's and she annoyed the twins who are 3, trying to drink out of their juice bottles and clutching their Thomas the Tank engines.

I am going to make her a book of photos of her familiar faces, toys and places because she is so mad about looking at the photos in the 'Big Book of Everything' which I have mentioned before. We are getting rather sick of the sight of this book because she cannot be in the same room as it without a feverish 'Book, book, book!'

Happy anniversary Helsy. Have a lovely night whatever you do.

Bozza · 14/06/2005 21:42

Thats a great idea spots - I did it for DS when he was young - with pictures of him riding his ride-on car and on the slide and pictures of grandparents etc. Not got round to it for DD

Thanks for asking about DS (eons ago) - he enjoyed school although a bit hesitant at first. He is going back for an unaccompanied hour this Thursday. But DH is in charge of that.

Just reading through the last posts it sounds like all the little ones are growing up so quickly. DD is so close to walking. Has done a couple of steps a few times and is much steadier at standing unsupported.

egypt · 15/06/2005 16:22

sorry helsy, didnt say happy anniversary to you. i am paranoid at times that you lot think 'she never mentioned me' because I am so useless at remembering what i read about you all, or i get to 'add a message' and then cant remember who said what. sorry sorry sorry, i don't mean to be so rude honest!

aaaaaanyway, i cant believe i didnt tell you yesterday that dd took her first steps. 12 of them!!! in one go!!! then i got the video out and thankfully she did it again. not since though despite me putting her on her feet every few minutes. think i've put her off.

changing our mortgage again, blimey, we are going to have to pay a couple of hundred quid more a month, that we dont have and thats on the lowest fixed rate we can find. bummer. i seriously should help dh out by getting some work in. . muuuuum??? {calls into the blue}

spots · 15/06/2005 17:07

I know egypt what you mean but you are not rude; everyone feels the same I think and it's just not like real life conversations. Congratulations your walking DD! now the fun really begins. or so I hear...

Just got back from taking DD swimming. God, how she loved THAT. As soon as she saw the water she was pointing and grinning, and once in it she kicked and laughed and chased around like a little otter baby (clinging on to me tho which I don't think otters do). We were in the water for an hour. To think I haven't taken her for ages because it's a hassle getting her dressed and undressed. (It was though!)

Eating has been good the last couple of days. I was listening to the radio, a programme about 'the fifth taste' - Umami it's called. It's a sort of meaty yummy lipsmacky taste that humans are designed to find absolutely delicious - hence the name, wchich means delicious in Japanese. anyway! I thought I would go for an umami offensive on DD because we don't eat a lot of meat so she doesn't get a lot of full-on umamami! So far, so good. Cheese and bacon pancakes very umami... very nice... went down well. Today we are trying to achieve umami without the meat in a veggie lasagne. We'll see. hee hee hee.

helsy · 15/06/2005 20:36

Know what you mean Egypt, and don't worry about it! Often I go through all the messages and think I just couldn't remember what everyone is going through - there are so many of us - so it's just easier to witter on about myself!
Libb hope your throat is better, Spots good idea about the photo book. It's noticeable that we have far less pictures of dd2 than we do of dd1.
They both have memory boxes though, and we still manage to put things in dd1s which is good.

I have this feeling that dd2 is still very much a baby compared to dd1 when she was 1. I try not to compare them but it's hard. I'm thinking perhaps she's not as quick as dd1, who is very bright - but then it looks like she will be mobile earlier. Can't help thinking my reluctance to give her anything other than jars must be partly to blame. She can feed herself though - with fingers and a spoon.
Anniversary was nice - had a meal out, but DH stayed up to make the bottles up (still doing two formula bottles - anyone else doing that? If you've stopped, what are you doing instead?) and by the time he came to bed I was fast asleep - not impressed.
DH has a pass out this weekend - every year as a fathers day present he gets tickets for him and his nephew to go to a tennis final in Nottingham -it's a warm up for Wimbledon for some players.

Judd · 15/06/2005 21:21

Helsy, I just give normal milk now and I use a cup for it not bottles. He has a drink of milk in the morning and some on his cereal and then another drink at 6pm. And that's it!
I've just been to meet my friends to go to the pub to find out I'm a day early! And we had a rubbish, rushed tea so that I could get out in time. Thought I was going mad, but when I played back the answerphone message, my friend has actually told me the wrong day. Pah, bah and gah.
DS had MMR on Tuesday. Lovely wonderful DH had to take him and he ferried DD to preschool as well,as I had been up all night with labyrinthitis, head spinning, throwing up. I got myself a docs appointment for Tuesday afternoon as I am terrified of having it whilst DH is working away as it is completely debilitating. Got some tablets which don't cure the condition but can dampen the symptoms. As I stood queuing for the prescription, I realised a downside of no longer having a baby - no free medicines!

egypt · 15/06/2005 21:31

poor you judd. hope you are feeling better really soon. i am dreading the next hayfever remedy prescription bill!

helsy we still have a bottle of formula at bedtime. hv said up to between 12-14 months, so over-the-top careful mummy that i am she'll have it until she's 14 months! has cow's milk in cup in the morning though. i do give her a little formula in a bottle in the night if she won't go back to sleep too.

Linnet · 15/06/2005 22:23

Hi everyone,

Hope you had a happy anniversary Helsy, did you go out?

Dd2 has been on cows milk since she was 11 and a half months. Was going to wait until 12 months but the milk powder ran out and I didn't see the point in buying more for just two weeks, it took longer than that to get through the box. So she went onto cows milk with no problems. She only has one bottle in the morning when she wakes up and another at bedtime. This morning though she didn't have the morning bottle and she actually managed to eat all of her cereal, hmmm, might be a theory in there somewhere.

Took her to get weighed today, 20lbs and 15oz she's getting big. Has only gained 3oz since we last got her weighed but then she never sits still for longer than 10 seconds so that's why.

Got the date through yesterday for her MMR, it was for next Monday, far too soon for me to get my head around it plus we're busy that day. So told HV that we'll come in later in the year to get it done and she was fine with that. Will probably go in around the end of August beginning of September. Has everyone else had theirs done yet?

oh dh home from work going to go for now

bye all
