Evening all. Hope everyone's had a good day. We were at playgroup this morning and all the staff have just been on a training course so were spouting all this shit useful information about looking after children, and the leader said "today, we'll just do free play, if the children don't want to do the activity and don't want to sit at the table for fruit or sit down for a story, they don't have to" Now, us as parents have been asking for this for weeks! She asked me at the end how I thought it went so I said I thought there had been less screaming and less tantrums and felt that maybe the children sensed all pressure being lifted off them iykwim.
Then I was going into town, and this young girl with a pushchair pushed infrnt of me and then I couldn't get on the bus! Arrogance

dinkystinky · 08/05/2009 17:48

Afternoon all. Lovely to see Elkie and MsLucy at Pushy mothers today, along with their handsome (and very tall!) little men. Odd weather here too PSL - gale force winds at start of PM session but lovely and sunny by the end.

Drove over there and back - but on way back a bus pulled out as was driving past and knocked my left wing mirror but then, thank god, stopped. I thought it was ok but now I'm home I can see its right out of alignment and come out of its fittings abit so will have to see how much that's going to cost us... ... still guess it could have been worse... DH was lovely and very understanding when I called to tell him but I feel very guilty that his first love (the car) has been hurt...suspect I wont be allowed out in it for a while now.

Calico - I bet the pictures will turn out better than you think they will. Sorry your tests were so inconclusive - hope they get to the bottom of the cause of the ministroke soon so you dont have to spend too much more time in hospital.

LBB - glad the childrens centre workers have finally seen the light. But grrr at the girl who pushed infront on the bus...

Lovely to meet you dinky and elkie - sorry to run off but couldn't risk being late for HRH.

Pleased today as his nice nursery teacher said how much they all love him - last week he was in trouble for attacking one of his friends with a stick..

Feel quite energised after the buggy walk on the heath - shame Stan had to squawk during the leg lifty/tummy bits, which is why I paid for the class (I can walk round the heath for free).

Now time to put the boys away, eat dinner and have some BOOZE.

littleboyblue · 08/05/2009 19:11

I now own a pair of tracksuit bottoms. Got them today ready for my pushy mothers which starts on tuesday.
I also bought a potty, but ds1 hasn't used it yet. I need to be with him and do it, his dad doesn't seem to understand how I want it done, so tonight he was supposed to put Luke to bed, but decided to have a shave instead, so I had to do it meaning I wasn't in the living room with Jacob showing him the potty, explaining what it was, and most importantly I wasn't there to hold it under him mid-flow when he was peeing. Dp just left the potty in the middle of the room, I don't know if he expects ds1 to just suddenly start using it on his own one day

I'm sending dp to the shop for some chocolate and a bottle of wine.

PinkTulips · 08/05/2009 19:20

posted earlier but the pc ate it.... bah! proper internet soon though, provided line of sight being ok of course [crosses fingers and toes]

aaron slept through the night again, despite it being artic cold here and me being awake shivering wishing he'd wake up and come in with me!

calico, hopefully you'll get some answers soon about the stroke... it must be worrying for you. bet the pics will be great, most photographers will be able to get one or two decent shots from even the most chaotic situation.... at dd's playschool a couple of lo's refused to have their pics taken and he just followed them around with the camera til he caught a good moment... they turned out the best of the lot!

dinkystinky · 08/05/2009 19:40

Enjoy the wine ladies - and good idea to get tracksuit bottoms LBB (they'll come in handy too for craft sessions at home with the kids )

MsLucy - no worres about rushing off - I had to run off too as needed to get home in time to catch our ever elusive builder. If you've joined up pushy mothers there are some tummy exercises in the booklet Rachel gave you which you can do at home when no one is looking. As I said, DS1 screamed his way through the entire session the first few times I did pushy mothers - think Stanley was rather chilled on the whole!

Pink - Aaron sounds remarkably similar to Danny with the sleeping through thing when ill... here's hoping they recover soon and go back to waking up at night for feeds and cuddles.

I really enjoyed the Pushy Mothers class and meeting Dinky and MsLucy again. It seemed much easier to get there than I expected -it's really very close to Gospel Oak and not that far from Archway where I can get a bus straight home. Still not sure about the financial commitment required to sign up for the classes - my NCT antenatal class is planning to meet up some Fridays over the next few weeks, and there's also a pay as you go baby massage thing in Crouch End. There are Pushy Mothers classes in Haringey and the instructor mentioned Clissold Park, quite possibly my nearest - but I liked the landscape and the different-ness of the Heath from other London parks - it's more open and hillier, as opposed to fenced and flat.

littleboyblue · 08/05/2009 20:04

PT That's great about Aaron sleeping through again, can you send him over here to teach Luke. And ds1!

PinkTulips · 08/05/2009 21:00

lbb, third time lucky, dd and ds1 never did til well over a year! both of them were closer to 2 when they stopped coming it with us in the early hours.

might not last, they get hungrier closer to weaning so he'll probably start waking again then... he's so snuggly at night i kinda miss him, i'd really prefer to have him cuddled up with me!

littleboyblue · 08/05/2009 23:03

Aaahhhhh
Trust me, I know how they can lull us into a false sense of security with this one. lol
I remember ds1 had had a good few nights of sleeping through, so one weekend, dp wasd on nightshift and I invited a girlie friend round for a few drinks and a dvd, we finished at about 1:30am IIRC and ds1 picked that night to start waking every hour again. Little terrors

littleboyblue · 09/05/2009 07:48

Morning.
Dp's gone paint-balling with work today and me and the boys are going to have a pj day. What's everyone else up to?

littleboyblue · 09/05/2009 08:55

Where is everyone? How dare you all get on with your lives when I'm bored!
Luke is sleeping and I think Jacob is on a secret mission with the SAS the way he's crawling and sneaking around the flat, wonder what he's doing
Ds1 has been shuffling across the floor on his front like he's on a battlefield, then darts his head around, jumps up, runs to the wall and presses himself against in and hides behind the curtain, then he peeked out, hid again quickly, then came out the other side and legged it out of the room! At this present moment in time, he is hiding in the airing cupboard. Oh, no, off to his room now.

MarkStretch · 09/05/2009 09:35

I'm here! Wow that's good sleeping PT, DS went down at 9 last night and woke at 12,1, 2,4 and finally 6. I just put a boob in his mouth everytime and it seemed to work though. Think he was just particularly hungry last night.

DH let me have a lie in until 9am! He came downstairs with the DC's, gave them breakfast, washed up, cleaned the kitchen and the grill pan and I love him for that. Oh and he also made me tea and toast

He's got a promotion at work and is working 9-5 for the next 3 months so will be home every weekend. It was very odd him strolling through the door at 5.15pm last night, laptop under arm. It's like he's a professional or something all of a sudden....

Nice day here, DD's going to a birthday party, not sure what to do yet.

littleboyblue · 09/05/2009 10:39

MS Congrats to dp for the promotion. That's good news.

PinkTulips · 09/05/2009 12:35

congrats to you and you dh MS

normality is so weird after living with shift work isn't it?

dd has a party too today, got 2 days notice on a week i've no cash for extras like presents and on top of that she's destroyed every pair of shoes she owns and i haven't been buying new ones as she's been in the same size for 18 months and is overdue a growth spurt. have resorted to shirtdress over baggy jeans which will mostly hide her tatty runners (she insisted on a skirt you see)

he slept 9pm til 7.30am last night, then went back to sleep until 10.30

i had a thumping headache all yesterday, last night nad this morning. the lie in seems to have shifted it but i still feel rotton, hope it's a short party.... o bugger, just remembered our mate is calling up to visit for the weekend... this is the guy who came at xmas and refused to leave on the early train the day we had to be at another friends for a xmas party so we had to leave early to drive him to the train

lbb, sounds like ds1 is getting in training for operation biscuit theft.... you'd best step up your security measures

dinkystinky · 09/05/2009 13:03

afternoon all. LBB - your DS1 sounds hilarious - hope you've discovered what mischief he's planning by now...

MS - congrats on your DH's promotion. Its lovely he'll be doing normal day time hours over the summer months so you can enjoy the summer evenings together - another reason to wish for a lovely summer...

Pink - sorry to hear about your headache, hope it doesnt come back. Danny is back to usual one time in night wake up so Aaron wins the sleeping through prize - sounds like he is having one hell of a growth spurt at the moment with all that snoozing. Hope your mate is less of a pain this weekend.

DH managed to fix the wing mirror on the car all by himself so I'm back in the good books - though not allowed to drive the car this morning when we went out. We've got Danny's first swimming class this afternoon - meant to go last week but didnt due to DS1's birthday party - looking forward to it but currently discussing with DH who gets to take Danny and who gets to entertain DS1 for the half hour. DH is out on a stag do tonight so once I've battled both boys into bed, I think its going to be pizza and crappy tv (aka Buffyfest) night for me tonight

OP posts:
littleboyblue · 09/05/2009 13:30

God knows what he was doing. I haven't as yet seen or found anything out of place....although I don't think the biscuit thing was completely off, he has been trying to get in the cupboards for a while now and is very impressed with himself that he has managed to bypass the child safety catches and this morning he brought me the ketchup whilst I was in the bath.
Hope the swimming goes well dinky and that the girls enjoy their parties MS & PT

We're all still in our pj's although we have all been washed, so that's ok. I do need to go shopping but think I'll ask dp to go when he gets home.

When Luke cries, his bottom lip does all that sticking out and really trembling before his mouth turns down and his whole face shakes! It is so sad (and a little funny )

dinkystinky · 09/05/2009 13:36

Wow - he's a criminal mastermind LBB! Child safety devices (particularly cupboard locks and stairgates) have been known to stump Danny's grandparents (on both sides)...
I know what you mean about the upset baby face - the bottom lip out, the eyebrows going yellow and crinkly as the eyes crinkle up and the face goes red and then comes the enormous "waah" - I used to refer to DS1 as the incredible sulk when he was doing that. Babies are just like a greek tragedy masks when happy or sad arent they...

OP posts:
littleboyblue · 09/05/2009 13:40

Hahahaha @ incredible sulk I don't remember ds1's sad face being this sad iykwim.

In my kitchen, there is 2 cupboards as you go in, one on top of the other, so really it's a tall cupboard with 2 doors. The bottom door has a child latch on it, but not the top one, because at the time, it was too high so I didn't bother. Ds1 now stands on tip toes, opens the top cupboard by wrestling with the corner and then really stretches and get his hand over the top of the bottom door and pushes the plastic leg of the catch down until the cupboard opens.
A few days ago, I found a whole tub of gravy granuals on the floor

america · 09/05/2009 13:45

Hello ladies, I'm back after two months of complete radio silence. DS2 is very clingy, just like DS1 was when a baby and I've been swamped. Now happily ignoring all baby manuals and co-sleeping, carring DS2 in a sling and generally letting things go. Overall very happy (typing with one hand so apologies for typos)! Now try to catch up with the thread.

littleboyblue · 09/05/2009 13:46

Welcome back america Glad everything's going well there

dinkystinky · 09/05/2009 13:47

Luke has obviously got a more expressive face than DS1, that's all. He's not more sad... Have noticed Danny "talks" more than DS1 did but doesnt smile as readily as DS1 did at this age - just a different little personality. Though that said, he has an identical not-happy-about-this face to DS1 at this age - bottom lip out and huffing (aka known as his "disgruntled of NW6" face)... When that face is on I know I have about 15 seconds to distract him or the incredible sulk will be coming out to play...

Cross posted - Welcome back America, lovely to see you on the thread and glad you found us again. I'm totally of the school of doing whatever makes your life easier with kids around (especially when you have more than one) so hurrah to the cosleeping, slinging and whatever else you're doing which is helping preserve your sanity.

We're aiming for a meet up in June in London when MoS is over and before Nkweto goes back to work. Are you up for it?

OP posts:
america · 09/05/2009 14:04

Thank you! It's great to see that you are all still here! A meet up sounds great, always ready for an outing! Something with DCs or a night out?

dinkystinky · 09/05/2009 14:17

The last one in April was at Coram's fields with DCs. Suspect it'll be another daytime one with DCs again (good chance to show off the little people we keep burbling on about on here ) - forecast is for a sunny summer so maybe if is going to be good a picnic in a park somewhere??
