Hi girls, thought I would start a new thread as DD2 is one on Thursday .

Can you believe a whole year has passed already?

HM LOL at your little independent DS...I know what you mean. DD2 is v cute but also getting v independent. I do a mix of spoon feeding and finger feeding (I know not BLW as such). She is thankfully a very clean eater like her sister...it must be genetic!
I know people will slate me for this, but I really couldn't cope with all that mess. My days are demanding enough!

Joking aside, the latest version of Christopher Green's 'Toddler Taming' is brilliant.

Big news in the lucky household...DD2 took 3 steps on her own today!!! So she may well be proper walking before her birthday (you've got 2 days DD2....no pressure!)

Still no sign of chicken pox.....

Hi Mocat welcome back! I know what you mean about the teaching and tiredness! I only do 2 and a half days but I'm finding it knackering. My hours are the other way round. I'm out of the house from 3pm til 11pm and I find it tiring being with DS all morning and then working til so late. It's why I'm giving it up and moving into something else from next month. DS has had cow's milk since 1 year (fully FFed since 2 months) Just switched from formula to cows milk from one day to the next...no probs. Hopefully some of the BFing mums can give you some advice too.

Hope the bubble fair went well flick

How you doing monkeysmama?

And Baiyu, never got to the bottom of your comment about not wanting to be preggers on your wedding day....is number 2 in the works?

DS had his 12 month check 3 months late and we didn't get a bollocking but I was quite shocked as on the computer he was only down as having had the 1 nad 2 month checks. He had the 4 month check in a different village as it was August and the paed was long term sick and no locum and somehow, altho she put it on the computer it doesn't seem to have transferred to his records. THat doctor told me no more checks til a year (and then I got confused and thought it was at 15 months when they have vaccinations). Turns out they have 1, 2, 4,6 months and 1 year checks! So, I looked like a total neglectful mother I explained and the doctor was fine but I was really shocked that no letter was automatically sent.."you've not been for a check in a year". There are no HVs here but I was thinking that it would be so easy to fall thru the cracks in the system here in Spain, nobody follows any of it it up.
Anyway, she didn't do much more than weigh and measure him ( 10,5 kilos and 79cm) and feel his genitals and stomach and have a quick look at his eyes and ask if he was alert, walking and eating all the food groups yet.

Mocat · 20/06/2009 21:34

macaco Thanks for the info about cow's milk, sounds as if it was an easy transition. Your working day sounds exhausting - what is it you are going to do when you change? If there isn't the HV system in Spain, do all your queries go through a GP or can you easily get access to a paediatrician (spelling?)?

macaco · 21/06/2009 16:09

Hi Mocat. yes the hours are awful, but it's what the bulk of the teaching here is...private after school academies teaching kids mostly. I do 4pm til 10pm but travel 40 mins each way. I hate it. From July I'll be freelance doing translation and business classes (adults only and mornings) if I get really desperate for money. It'll be slow at first but I think I'll be ok just translating. it'll be more flexible and I can do it from home.
We have Niño Sano (healthy child) here, which means you see a paed for check ups at 1,2,4,6,12 and 24 months. The paed is at the doctors surgery 5 mins walaway and has appointments everyday i think, so yes it's as easy to see her as the GP. I can make other normal appointments with the paed apart from the check ups. There are no HVs tho and no midwives visit after birth, you have to go to them. You're left very much to your own devices. other than that I've not really had any problems. This is all the social security system, by the way...not private.

macaco · 21/06/2009 16:10

I mean 5 mins walk away

luckymummy74 · 21/06/2009 20:31

Hi all,

Hope you all had a good Father's Day? DH loved his pressies.

I had a brilliant time at Pet Shop Boys on Friday night at the O2, did any other FML's go in the end? It was such a good show! David Walliams was sitting just in front of us!!!

I've been at my mate Denny's for the weekend. She used to crash our thread, some of you may remember? Anyway, had a lovely weekend, the kids all played really well together, we cooked the Daddies a cooked breakfast/brunch. Denny herself is looking amazing after going from a size 18 (Nov 08) to now a size 12!! She has fab new hair (graduated bob) and looks amazing, definitely a yummy mummy!

Fuzzypeach are you OK chuck? Haven't seen you post in a while?

Best be off, I need to spend time with DH!!

Hello everyone

Just back from a blissful 8 days in Cyprus . I actually checked our thread from by the pool overlooking the sea the other day and was going to post about my idyllic surroundings but thought it wasn't fair.

We stayed in a brilliant hotel - really stylish but incredibly kid friendly; a shade over the pool, excellent range of kids food served immediately, high chairs everywhere, ramps for prams everywhere. So relaxing and beautiful. I am a bit sad to be back. After a long time living abroad we often ask ourselves why we're back in the UK - there are of course lots of lovely reasons (family, friends, work which means we can have lovely holidays etc.) but I miss the sun, food and relaxed life outside of the UK.

I am still breast feeding too Mocat. I gave dd some formula for the first time the day before we went away because I am so bored of expressing everyday for 13 months and she was more or less fine with it (Aptamil3 in the ready made carton I used) I've started a thread in the "Feed the world breast & bottle feeding" section about going from bf to other milk and people seem to be suggesting going straight to cow's milk.... It did make me laugh on holiday that two different women commented on me not being the "type" of woman they'd expect to be bfing still at 13 months. It made me laugh - I think they expected me to be wearing a hemp smock instead of Chanel shades and a leopard print bikini!

HM - I didn't realise you were due so soon! How exciting. My sister's due on 21st July - a boy they've been told. Names will be interesting as her DH is Welsh (and speaks it). I like Millie. I am a fan of names that can be shortened if the LO wants but can also be used in full later on. I always imagined dd going into a board meeting and introducing herself and thought "Dolly" might not be the best name (though if one day I have another girl she may not escape it - I am from East London so it is allowed!)

A smile to those of you tired from work and family. I know how lucky I am not to be working for another year - I think it every day at least once. Hugs anyway for what they are worth.

Right - off to order food on line and then to mope about for a while.

MM

Just marking for later... I'm afraid I'm feeling really ill. Actually thought I might be going into labour yesterday, had really bad tummy pains (how sad, eh? I have a 1YO and no clue what early labour might actually feel like!!! )

Anyway, DS - who got up at 5am this morning - has gone for a kip so I am too... Even the house is a right state and DH won't be best impressed when he gets home!!

thefortbuilder · 22/06/2009 21:00

HM are you having BH???

are you ok?

thanks so much for all your help on sunday - it was great having someone else there even just to talk to to stop me going stir crazy!

had a great day today and just checking in here really as I'm shattered and going to bed.

Haribosmummy · 23/06/2009 11:40

I'm not sure what they are, Flick, but I don't have a baby yet, so it's a false alarm of some sort!

Really pleased the show went well! DH was shocked when I came home without bas and bags of stuff

MM - lovely to hear you had such a good holiday

LM - Glad you had a good fathers day. DH liked his mug and got a card from DSDs but he's not really into that sort of thing!

Mocat - HELLO I remember you!!!

Macaco - those hours sound horrid!! I've just signed up for teacher training but I hope I never have to work till 10pm!!!

Well, DS is continuing to turn night into day... He went for his 'midday' nap at 9am and is still asleep! Poor mite was up at 1am and then again at 5am, so we've missed our gym class and I'm letting him catch up on some sleep... Hopefully he will be less grumpy when he wakes up!!!

FP - How are you? Hope you are feeling OK and the weekend wasn't too stressful without DH about!

HM xx

Mitchell81 · 23/06/2009 16:11

HM glad to hear that things have settled, I hope DH didn't make any comments about the house and that you are getting some rest.

Mocat · 24/06/2009 22:50

I am trying to find a holiday for the family at the moment and not being terribly successful. The sound of lying by a pool, monkeysmama is so lovely; though if this fab weather keeps up I won't mind being home this summer.

How are you sticking the heat, haribosmummy? I was expecting DD at this time of the year (6 years ago now ) and I longed to be able to wander about with little on. Don't know if the world was ready for that! I hope you are feeling better and not trying to tidy up too much. Re. teaching: you will find yourself at school late at night for parents' evenings and open nights, though only about six times a year so it's not a burden. There is always the extended holiday to calm the nerves...

Mocat · 24/06/2009 22:55

macaco The translation work sounds like you could be in control of it all, definitely something to look forward to! The system of seeing a paediatrician is attractive, I must say. Here, if you have any serious concerns your HV or GP would obviously refer you on but there is always a wait.

luckymummy74 · 25/06/2009 14:09

LOL MM at you not being 'the type' to still be BF!!!! You go girl with your chanel shades!!!

Well I can't believe how much this thread is slowing down! It's good for me though as I hardly have time to check it and post these days, I remember posting a few times a day and now it's once or twice a week!

HM Hope you are feeling better?

DD1 was a monster yesterday (well, prob still not that bad compared to most, but my standards are high.....LOL!!!) She drove both me and DH to distraction and by the end of the day I ended up really shouting at her when she wa sin bed and wouldn't go to sleep. She then called me into her room, quietly.....

(small voice) "mummy.....mummmy.....can you come and wipe my tears away?"

How I managed to keep it together I don't know! Bless her, she nearly had to wipe my tears away! We 'made up' and so far today she's not been very good.

Well, the hen weekend plans are in full swing so I'd better go off and carry on sorting that out! ONly 4 weeks to go!

are you all out enjoying the sun????

supposed to be a heatwave next monday and tuesday - sorry HM bet that's the last thing you want to hear. make sure you have one of those evian spray things - saved me when i was pg with ds1 in summer of 2006! at least you'll have ac in the hospital

have a lovely weekend all

shonnomanom · 27/06/2009 10:09

Hey Ladies

LM I totally agree about how slow the thread is gettin. We barely get time to sit down now a days dont we..

How are feeling these days HM?

This sunny weather has been lovely hasnt it. It has been great to get my charges out the house! Our schools finished for summer yesterday - 7 weeks of summer! Thankfully im only working 5 [hmmm]

Does anyone have any ideas about combatting(sp?) sleep crawling?? Yeah I did say sleep crawling . DD has been gettin more and more active in her sleep. She has went from slowly working her way up the cot during the night to physically rolling and crawling around the cot, and when she gets to the end and cant go any further she starts head butting the bed end/top in frustration. Its a good job she is still in the cot or she would be on the floor!

Hope your all having a good weekend!

monkeysmama · 27/06/2009 10:49

Hey girls

I am SO tired! Dd is asleep so only a quick hello - am going to have a nap while I can.

All good here. Dp's away until Tuesday with his mates celebrating a birthday in Ireland - he got there at 12 yesterday and by 6 he was grunting (instead of speaking) down the phone. Think he's made friends with the Guiness....

It is really uncomfortable sticky weather - keeping thinking of you HM. Think I've said before that one of my sisters is pg too and she's not happy with the weather.

Off to sleep.

MM

macaco · 27/06/2009 19:17

Count yourselves lucky, ladies....it's cooled down to 35 degrees here in Southern Spain.

macaco · 27/06/2009 19:19

oops pressed post too soon.

Sho does the sleep crawling wake her up?
HM hope you're feeling OK?
I'm having a little mini break (at home) for a few days before I launch myself into being self employed.

fuzzypeach · 27/06/2009 20:58

Hello!

Not posted for ages on here, I havent really got that much to say (for a change!!)

DD2 has just started walking - (took her first steps at nursery which I was very upset about as I was at work having a crap day and wishing I could be a SAHM at the time!!) She walked the length of the living room on her own today for the first time, very wobbly, but i was soo proud!!

DD1 driving me potty again and really pushing the boundaries at the moment, roll on September when she starts school!!

LM glad you enjoyed the PSB - I saw Take That on weds, they were fantastic! That's an amazing weight loss for Denny, do you mind me asking how she did it? I'm doing Ok, lost 3 stone ish so far, but still another 2 stone to go, and its really slowing down now!

Re being tired and work - I am finding it absolutely exhausting - and I only work 2 days a week - even though I try to go to bed eearly, I have to get up at 4.30am - and practically every day I am falling to sleep on the bus from the car park to the airport, and when i am driving home, which is really not good - it has been happening for a good few weeks now, but i dont know what to do about it, other than take pro plus which Im not really a fan of

HM Hope your not too hot and uncomfy - when is your due date again, is it August?

fuzzypeach · 27/06/2009 21:08

Just had a quick read back and..

Oooh congratulations baiyu!! How exciting! Me and Dh were together 5 years before we got married - and we already had a 3 year old DD and another DD in my tummy on our wedding day (although I didnt know that at the time!!)

Also HM Martha definitely goes with your surname, and I think the housekeeping option sounds like it could work well for you
