here on holiday, lovely apartment but split level lounge - interesting with Ethan, weather not good, tomorrow must be better, time for wine now, bye xx

AliandHerScallywag · 31/05/2009 10:54

Not been posting much, but have been lurking.

Thanks everyone for the will advice. Bill - I will email your man thanks for the suggestion. Pleased too that I am not the only one stuggling with the guardian thing. As we are both only children grandparents are our closest family. Aside from them getting older, we would have to pick one side of the family over the other. I think this might be at the heart of my procrastination.

I went to a clothes party on Thursday night. Never done anything like that before. It was great: I got to try on some things that I would never normally consider like. Bubble dress, and harem pants. The bubble dress was fairly grim TBH, but I did spend quite a bit on other stuff. V pleased with it. I am even dallying with the idea of becoming an agent for the company now that I am officially a SAHM. I'm not really fashion conscious enough I suspect, but it might be the sort of thing that I could do to earn a bit of money and do something other than mummying.

Glorious weather here. Friends are coming over for a bbq. Life is pretty good.

parofleurmapu · 31/05/2009 19:55

Hello Mega busy bday weekend here, photos on the blog. We are shattered but Fleur had a fab time prob last Canarian bday for a while !! Sorry no time to post at mo but Hi to you all xx

babybillandsplodge · 31/05/2009 19:56

Have just posted this thread on behaviour if anyone has any suggestions:

hair pulling

PP, didn't mean to scare you re wills. It's just a bit of a hobby horse of mine cos we lost a friend a few years ago to cancer and she left two small children, so it was obviously talked about a lot . I know what you mean, those of you who are struggling to pick someone. I think I've mentioned before that my SIL is his guardian which is far from ideal, and I am v concerned about the amount of contact he'd have with my family and friends should the worst happen. But rather that than both my families be fighting about it in the event of . . .

I've been laughing at all the boob obsessed babies - ironically A has now started taking an interest in mine since they started enlarging again! I've told him in no uncertain terms that he wasn't interested first time around so he's not getting any this time either!!

Essie, loving the bunting, but shouldn't it be Buy Baby Bunting!

Deb, hope you're having a nice holiday, and hi to everyone else I've missed x

poppy34 · 31/05/2009 20:39

Hi to all - just marking my place as enjoying glass of wine as fingers crossed edie seems bit better. Deb enjoy your Holidays. Re breasts we get nipple and breast poking here but she does it to dh as well so read into that what you will .
Off to check out your thread now bill(can't get used to new name).

poppy34 · 31/05/2009 20:43

Bill we have same trouble here pulling my hair although no and ouch seem to have worked. Not seen her do it on others but would agree with others re just living with the phase- I assume it's a phase and we can look forward to biting next

Rolf · 31/05/2009 23:32

Hi everyone. It's quiet here at the moment isn't it?

Bill i agree that you're already doing the right things - A firm "no" and removing him from the victim - like dog training . DD1 was a big hair-puller for a long time and it was awful. She reduced big 8 year old boys to tears several times. Her biggest success, though, was attacking a lovely 7 year old girl who until DD1 got her hands on her had been selectively mute

Thea saw a baby friend today and they were very sweet together, crawling all over each other.

pureeandpearls · 01/06/2009 07:47

Happy birthday Bill! Must run to work. Laters xx

abdnhiker · 01/06/2009 08:19

bill read your thread on hair pulling - can you put A down in his cot and walk away if he pulls hair at home? It's much harder in public, but everyone goes through it.

Am marshalling my willpower to phone the contractor managing our house painting and give him hell - the job is going to take twice as long as he said, the mess is horrible, and the quality isn't that great. They insisted that we needed to put up lining paper as the walls were wallpapered before but I can clearly see the seams in the lining paper I'm crap at being tough with people on the phone though so I'm dreading the phone call.

bitofadramaqueen · 01/06/2009 09:27

Happy birthday bill!

Lots of boob poking and prodding here, very pianful usually!

It has been very quiet on here over the weekend, anyone would think we'd all been enjoying some sunny weather...

bill I spotted A's pop up paddling pool on fb pics, does he love it? I've been wondering whether to get that one or the inflatable baby pool from elc. I was a bit worried that the pop up pool wouldn't be very sturdy but A looked like he was having a great time!

Amberc · 01/06/2009 13:15

Hello all, wow it's been very quiet - expected to come back to reams of posts!

Feel like a dogs dinner today as I was up at 2.30 and then couldn't get back to sleep. Luke's bed alarm thingy went off again. I went in to turn it off thinking that he must have rolled right to the edge of the bed but he was there in the middle not breathing! I had to shake him a bit to wake him and he took a big gasp of breath. Awful. I could not sleep after that so feel like death.

Luke has started to walk a little now. He can take about 5 steps before falling flat on his face. Bless him for staying with it though. Someone is bound to call social services as he is covered in bruises from all the falling over (mostly on his face )

Happy birthday Bill (I also find myself wanting to call you sponge!)

Amberc · 01/06/2009 13:15

PS Deb - that M&S link was brilliant

babybillandsplodge · 01/06/2009 19:24

Hi all, thank you for the birthday messages - and all the support on the hair pulling . Lol at making an elective mute talk !!

Yay at Luke's walking - no sign here unfortunately, and I'm not going to be able to carry him much longer!

BDQ, the paddling pool is FAB!! Can't have a blow up pool cos of our cats so went for this one instead - so much easier than having to blow one up too! A and his friend Lucas had a great time and, cos the sides were quite flexible, were able to crawl in and out of it when they wanted too . Highly recommend it x

Ah, good luck with the decorators - I don't envy you .

AliandHerScallywag · 01/06/2009 21:18

Happy birthday Bill

We have hair pulling (on me), nipple tweaking (on DH), and biting (on me) here. However, this morning we hit a new low: DS managed to stand on my nipple, and it bloody hurt. To be fair it was an accident: I was on my side in bed and Peter managed to stand on me in his bid to pull himself to standing on the headboard. The biting is quite funny until the teeth get going. The advice to say no and put the baby down is the best/only option I think. It is certainly what we are doing here. It has worked quite well for stopping Peter investigating the DVD player and TV unit.

Fabulous day at my friend's Mum's house playing in their garden. We have a small garden so we are lucky, , but the access isn't good from the house (lots of steep dangerous steps). It made me realise think that I would like to move house at some point. (Not yet though)

systemsaddict · 02/06/2009 11:28

v quick checkin - sorry I disappeared unceremoniously! house went on market a couple of weeks back and we have had almost daily viewings since so I have had to spend every waking moment tidying up! - no offers yet though (well one from a muppet who had no money but that doesn't count) - Caitlin very mobile, very frustrated at everything, a bit hard work! - am happy and coping but running on adrenaline alone! will lurk and skim for the foreseeable till things settle - hope all well with you all

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 02/06/2009 11:36

Well done Luke! Amber a fringe is good to cover the bruises!

Debs great link - it's still there!

Just booked another camping holiday though this time I have gone for a site with showers!

abdnhiker · 02/06/2009 11:55

systems wow - daily viewings sounds really possible. Fingers crossed for you!

my decorators have been better so fingers crossed my phone call worked. I was pretty wussy though and just said I was really tired from having to clean up every night with the two kids (which is true, but only half the story).

Amber how terrifying, I'd have trouble getting back to sleep too! Are you going to phone the GP about it? What are you supposed to do when that happens? That makes me feel very nervous about Fraser now...

essie the bunting you linked to was £3.67 a letter which isn't too bad.. you'd probably cover your costs... I'm getting inspired to look in my fabric stash and see if I have enough blue fabric to make boy-bunting (no pink!!!) for Fraser's birthday on Sunday.

Essie3 · 02/06/2009 13:24

Amber that scare sounds awful - no wonder you couldn't sleep afterwards. Iestyn's alarm went off last night for the first time in ages, and lucky I hadn't read that, because I woke up, but the alarm stopped before I got out of bed even, so...I stayed in bed and went back to sleep! I was getting all blase but now I won't be!

Systems excellent news with the viewings - here's hoping for an offer.
Sponge or whatever your name is now (sorry but your previous name was SO good!) Iestyn pulls my hair but not in that way. My only attempt at discipline has been the spitting. He's started spitting out food for fun and for effect, and so I told him off with a stern face and pointing my finger. He was laughing so hard that he was hanging over the edge of his chair. Now I ignore it, and carry on as if it's totally normal to have food in my hair. Seems to have worked so far. He's quite naughty really - he also pretends to choke and laughs when I jump up to pat his back. I'm really worried that that will develop into crying wolf.
BTW, I must have the devil in me because I so, so wanted to reply to your thread saying 'have you tried smacking him really hard'. Just to see the response!

Abdn maybe I will make some bunting for money! Roll up, roll up! I'm definitely going to make some for Iestyn.

I just heard that there's a woman in the same village as me with a 3 week old boy called Iestyn! There's also a Iestyn in Wimbledon. I'm feeling all sad that I've managed to pick a name that could become the next Jack. Am I weird or what?

Amberc · 02/06/2009 13:40

Haaaa! Luke spits too - he thinks it's hilarious. Mostly because I laugh too therefore egging him on. Oh well.

I think Luke has sleep apnea. I don't think there's anything you can do about that. Mark has it so another of Luke's inherited problems.

Just been reading up about Hypothyroidism. It seems you've got little chance of getting pregnant/not having a miscarriage until it's all sorted. We did have a go last month but I had a really super early period which I can probably now blame on the thyroid stuff. Also this month been charting my termperature and according to fertility friend I have not ovulated (which is another symptom). This is not good.

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 02/06/2009 13:49

Amber only just saw the bit about Luke not breathing, that is scary.
Have you been to your gp for some medication yet, I'm sure it's treated easily with tablets.

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 02/06/2009 13:50

Re not ovulating, it is normal not to ovulate every month.

Amberc · 02/06/2009 14:29

I am on tablets going but they take months to get the dosage right. Not ovulating is a common symptom of hypothyroidism. Also increased risk of miscarriage really early as you have a short luteal phase whatever that means!

Essie3 · 02/06/2009 14:47

Ahhhh, Amber, I was going to ask whether Luke might have sleep apnea, but I didn't want to make up diagnoses without having the medical knowledge! But I know a friend's son has it.

Also (look at me in super helpful mode here!) with the hyperthyroidism, and tcc, have you considered herbalism? I saw a fab fab herbalist in Balham, and it has good results for various things in particular hormonal problems. Personally I had acne which was linked to my cycle, and no problems conceiving, but then maybe that was because my cycle was beautifully regulated after 1 year on the potion. And my skin was gorgeous too. Here's Claire but you can also find someone more local. Claire was v. v. good, professional and medical, not hippyish at all. The tincture (or potion!) tasted like pond water. But you can't have everything.

whinegums · 02/06/2009 15:26

Wow, it has been quiet.

Amber, I've only just persuaded myself to turn off the sensor on B's monitor. I'm not surprised you got a dreadful fright, hope you are feeling better today. Sending you some very unMN hugs because it sounds like you need them. BTW, B got a lovely black eye almost two weeks ago, and it still hasn't gone completely. I'm expecting him to look battered for the next few years at least...

Deb, love the M&S link. Childish, but things like that do tickle my fancy

Abdn, I will pretend to be you (or your legal representative, he he) and call the builders on your behalf if you like. I am hard as nails on the phone. My favourite thing when complaining in the past (when I worked for the Beeb) was to say I worked on Watchdog. It worked amazingly well!

Amberc · 02/06/2009 16:49

Wow - whinegums I will get you to do all my complaining alls from now on! Thaks for the hugs too.

Essie - will wait until the Thyroxine kicks in before I worry too much but I don't like the idea of being even temporarily infertile.
