Amberc · 28/05/2009 16:29

Mark and I are thinking of going but it sleeps 8 - anyone fancy it?!

abdnhiker · 28/05/2009 18:06

yeah amber!! five how's DD today? How did this happen?

essie you and I could probably make more money making bunting than doing research - I've got oodles of leftover quilt fabric so I think I might copy your idea...

wills our solicitor did us a very basic one where we just filled in a form and dropped it at his office. It was part of the package when we bought our first house but otherwise I think it'd be dead cheap. It's really important with kids - we wanted to make sure we could choose who would raise our kids if we both died.

whinegums lucky you - although after the job hunt you deserve the break!

bill fingers crossed your union rep is able to sort this out!!!!

babybillandsplodge · 28/05/2009 19:29

Ali, you definitely need to get a will - and that applies to all of you !!

It is sooooo important, and may be a little more complicated than just everything to spouse or everything to kids. There are other things to consider, like trustees, legal guardians, what age you would want P to inherit your estate, etc. A depressing thought but essential.

We used a professional will writer (email address here [email protected] if you're interested, you live close to me so he'll be able to do your wills if you want) and paid, I think, about £200 for both wills. Feel so much better for having got it sorted.

Right, off my soap box .

PenguinProject · 28/05/2009 20:12

5 - That is awful. Hope everything back to normal now.

Amber - Would love to come, but that's pretty much the amount of money we have set aside to get to NZ!

Bb&s is scaring me about wills. I am still deliberating as to who I'd want to take R if something happened which is why I haven't done anything yet...not really a good reason eh?

Enjoy your break Deb.

bitofadramaqueen · 28/05/2009 21:28

at the two nights babysitting for 'parental bonding' Amber.

Just waiting impatiently for dh to get off the phone so we can watch ER!

poppy34 · 28/05/2009 21:33

5 that is unbelievable about the jab - how is e now?

amber you're clearly feeling bit more upbeat -that looks lovely.

sponge/babybill your ongoing work saga is just unreal - and agree re will - need to update mine (tis bit more complex cos of dsc) but I do have one .

re formula we still use it for three feeds a day but I would like to go to proper milk -thats what have been using in feeds and will start to introduce it more. But more interested in winning hte battle on the cup (oddly she seems to be a bit better out of a beaker/doidy cup this week). where do you get vitamin drops if you do want them?

And whinegumsthat is such fab news re your holiday.

bit tired as we're in teething hell here (temp, poonami nappies, general fretfulness but oddly we're dead happy and want to wake up at 1.30am )....

poppy34 · 28/05/2009 21:34

sorry food not feed -waves to everyone else.

and we have books for birthday present (if we could have found a church taht didnt tie christening to getting into the local school we might have had a christening)

pureeandpearls · 28/05/2009 21:44

Poppy- I got baby vitamin drops at Boots.

Whinegums- truly great news about the holiday.

Bill- do hope things get sorted so you can enjoy the three months back at work!!

Amber- S said no to holiday!!!

vivaGlasvegas · 28/05/2009 21:49

whinegums so pleased you really won the holiday - we went to the Maldives for our honeymoon and it was amazing.

We did our wills when we bought our house and redid them after Charlotte was born, stating who was to be her guardian etc. my lovely RL friend conkertree did them for us gratis which was even better! I offer her free Xray interpretation in exchange - fair deal eh!? (same goes for my friend who's a paediatrician, I'm definately getting the best deal here!)

amber that place looks great, you should also check out baby friendly boltholes - it's a MN link and some of the places look fab.

Charlotte is still not quite right, she's been poorly on and off for a week now, properly ill at the end of last week (cue friendly paediatrician invited round for impromtu coffee and a quick once over - saves getting a GP appointment!) she diagnosed bronchiolitis and we spen a few days getting regular calpol. she's still coughing up a lung intermittently, but is much better generally. Our main problem with coughing is that she always makes herself vomit, and you may remember that Charlotte is highly skilled in this regard. poor thing.

poppy34 · 28/05/2009 21:53

thanks puree

viva sorry to hear about charlotte ..

DebInAustria · 28/05/2009 22:17

Viva - Charlotte sounds like she's been poorly, glad she's on the mend now

Amber - that place looks fantastic, but it should for the price, maybe we should offer babysitting for "parental bonding"?

Rolf · 29/05/2009 00:07

Viva poor Charlotte, hope she's better soon.

Deb enjoy your holiday.

Abdn and Essie I would happily pay anyone who could make bunting like Cecily's. Actually, it would be nice to get some for both of my girls. I don't think the boys would go for it, although if I was the organised mother I would like to be I'd have done it for each of them as babies.

We've just had a lovely dinner party for DH's uncle and their friends (hence the late posting).

We don't have wills, which is awful, I know. We don't know who we could ask to be guardians . Can't even begin the think of anyone.

Amberc · 29/05/2009 10:00

Ha ha - parental bonding - love it!

Viva and poppy - hope babies are feeling better soon. Luke is also teething and still has his everlasting cough. He coughted up a horrid flemball yesterday and much as I can deal with poo, wee and sick I have a major problem with flem (and I know it's spelled phlegm before anyone mentions!!)

Essie - there's a new film out all about a little Welsh town. Had a great write up in the gardian and one of the dads at nursery worked on the film and said it was fab. |It's calles Sleep Furiously film review

Essie3 · 29/05/2009 10:58

Lol Amber that because there's a film about a Welsh town I must love it... I'm living the film! Seriously, though, I'll probably look at it and enjoy it! Is it anything like Etre et Avoir? Love that film.

Also LOL at all the comments on the bunting. In all seriousness, if anyone is desperate I will happily make some - it's not rocket science and I enjoy doing it. I can also teach people how to do it - it's not rocket science! - so in all seriousness, e-mail me if you want some. I might make some for my own son now! My frenemy - now my friend, keep up! - was considering buying letters for her little daughter and now regrets calling her Julianne because of the number of letters involved!

BTW, also laughed quite a lot about the whole how to stop babies taking bottles discussion. But that's not out of disrespect. It's just that I've spent six months or more trying to get Iestyn to take a bottle. He never will now. And I think he's a baby who won't be drinking milk - for him, milk comes from boobs only. Still reeling from this morning's shock - I was trying to get him to nap (lying on the bed, yeah yeah Gina Ford...we're following the shite parenting book here) and he decided that he fancied a bf and went scrabbling down my top! I don't do feeding during the day now unless it's a 4.30 one and he's been at nursery. But I suppose it was my fault for wearing a strappy top because to him I suppose I was advertising. Oh, the implications for when he's older...!!

Decorator is still going and the wallpaper still isn't up. We have finally got our Ikea stuff though, yesterday evening, after a daily visit since Monday. They welcomed me by name at Croydon Ikea yesterday, practically.

whinegums well done on the holiday! (Or was it viva? ) And five are you really going to Ireland? Where are you crossing? Let me know if it's Holyhead. (Thinking about it, probably not from Dorset. Although the crossings are cheaper.)
Five shocked at the flu jab. That is truly terrible. Make sure you follow it up with at the very least a letter of complaint.

Penguin good to see you back here - although I've been quite absent and 3 pages appeared in my absence!

Abdn yes let's start a business: Bye Baby Bunting!

Hello to everyone else and lots of love and kisses - I keep shamefully missing conversations and not responding properly to people. My excuse at the moment is that the house is in disarray and I keep having to go out all the time and stay out.

Oh, did mean to mention - Iestyn can pull himself up to standing now, and walks with the little truck we found in the attic (seriously!). He's ever so cute with his little goosesteps. So a late developer on the moving, but he's coming along quickly! He's very lovely these days.

Essie3 · 29/05/2009 10:59

That was HUUUUUUUUGE! And I didn't mention Deb, Sponge, or poppy who I can see on this page. Hello!

OP posts:
Rolf · 29/05/2009 11:10

I have a friend whose 7 year old son still has a breast fixation. He never outgrew scrabbling down her top and for his birthday his brother suggested making him fairy cakes with nipples on top . If he's having a cuddle he still absentmindedly twiddles his mother's nipples

Essie you now have your very own cyber-stalker as I would love some bunting and/or lessons for my long-named daughter, on whatever terms you care to name, AND we are going to Ireland in August and sailing from Holyhead.

Poor Thea is pulling her ears and they have a waxy smell coming from them reminiscent of when DD1 had perforated eardrums. Any ideas welcome.

Amberc · 29/05/2009 13:41

Erm...just joined twitter - I can't undersatnd what I'm meant to do!! I think it's like a series of facebook status updates. PP - I did try and include you. It hasn't come up though - oh it's pending.

bitofadramaqueen · 29/05/2009 19:20

Oh essie, I'd love some bunting but really only if you have the time. I had a look at the website you suggested on fb but couldn't find any personalized bunting. I feel very cheeky asking though . Would obviously pay for it!

Have a million chores to do ahead of a very busy weekend so will wave to all and crack on!

whinegums · 29/05/2009 19:51

Essie and Abdn, I really do think you should start your bunting business, and I love the name. I would love some, but I have a child with a long name unfortunately!

Essie, it's me with the holiday. I will try not to mention it too often...

Had a lovely day here with my SIL and nieces. B and I are heading back home tomorrow. It's been good to spend some time at my mum's, but the minuses are now starting to outweigh the pluses, and I'm looking forward to a break from all of the 'advice'.

Viva, hope C is getting better.

Rolf, PMSL at your friend's son, but in a oh lordy I wouldn't be surprised if that happens here way. Like Essie, I seem to have a baby who's not interested in milk unless it's from source.

Hope you all have a good weekend x

DebInAustria · 29/05/2009 20:25

I think the bunting is a really good idea.

Whinegums - when do you have to take the holiday, how long is it for?I am so

DebInAustria · 29/05/2009 20:28

The boys are very excited about going away tomorrow, unfortunately the UK has our weather New snow on the mountain today

Essie3 · 29/05/2009 20:30

Whinegums, maybe we should start a support group then! I'm quite worried now that Rolf has told her story - I was happily justifying him trying to rip my bra off by saying 'oh my fault for wearing a strappy top', which is the whole 'she was asking for it anyway' debate!! Now I'm doomed to whipping out a boob so that he can toast his eighteenth... Well done on the holiday, though! How did you manage it? I always think I've won holidays but they're those dodgy offer things where you have to give your bank details in order to claim.

Amber I second baby friendly boltholes - we're aiming for somewhere this summer but at the moment we haven't decided where or when. But that's what I get for marrying a barrister. (To those not married to barristers, just a taste: our honeymoon was booked the day before our wedding. But I had phoned the clerks to double-check that he wasn't telling porkies when he said he'd booked the time off.)

Rolf stalk away! Seriously, if you're crossing from Holyhead and fancy a break in the journey (Jonathan Swift, middle of the night sailing??) I'm on the way across Anglesey. Close to Llanfair PG which the boys might like depending on their interests. There's also a tall tower they could climb that could tire them out!
Also Rolf and BDQ I would consider making bunting for money, but depends if there is a deadline, as I'm not sure when I could get the fabric. Or you can buy it here; I couldn't make that much for £8.62 though - that's a bargain!

Viva sorry to hear about Charlotte. You mentioned that she is big on vomiting - I can't remember the situation, but Iestyn has always been an excellent vomiter. Never diagnosed with reflux or anything like that, but we were in hospital when he was a week old, and then with weaning it didn't take much to make him choke a bit, gag, and vom massively. Often coincided with coughing too. But that seems to have passed.

Deb have a great holiday. I took 2 of the pictures of haircuts you posted to the hairdresser on Monday, and he did a version of one and it looks great!

Now I'm just waiting for Tim to return so that he can go to Ikea. Yes, ladies, this is the fourth day in a row that we've visited Ikea. I thought we'd finished yesterday.

Hi Deb.
And sorry again, I appear to have lost the ability to be brief. I've been doing a lot of academic writing recently and clearly can't be concise!

DebInAustria · 29/05/2009 20:46

Hi Essie

So pleased about your haircut - where's the photo? Ethan is also big on boobs!!He helps himself whenever he gets the opportunity.

Just found this great mistake on the m+s website - don't like the sound of the motif on the hat

bitofadramaqueen · 29/05/2009 22:59

That's hilarious deb!
