Rolf · 27/05/2009 21:51

Oh, v nice baby too .

poppy34 · 27/05/2009 21:55

Pp dh is on it - it's meant to be a joint thing but I Am not on it

pureeandpearls · 27/05/2009 21:58

Thanks Rolf- yes it is Lucy Mangan (please tell me that you are not a fan of LucyManganisastupidc*nt.com or whatever that website is called!)

Bunting made by our very own Essie!

bitofadramaqueen · 27/05/2009 22:12

Evening all.

Have been lurking on and off this evening, so cant actually remember all the posts or who said what. I'm reviewing our annual insurances and it's such a dull, time consuming task... I seem to recall spending an eternity doing it last year in between MNetting when I started my maternity leave A lifetime ago (quite literally!).

Right, on the formula at age 1+. I hope I dont offend anyone, but I'm firmly in the cynical camp and strongly suspect that formula designed for the age 1+ group is all about milk companies making money on the back of parents natural anxieties about wanting to make sure their children get the very best start. The companies aren't allowed to market milk that is used for under 6 months and I believe that's why they do all the stage 2, age 1 + type milks. As a result of this cynicism, S is still on stage 1 milk (quite happily) and we'll be trying to get him onto cows milk as soon as he lets us (watch me, he'll probably still be glugging the stuff back at age 3 ).

With regards to vitamins - I personally am not convinced. I thought the the jury was out among the 'experts' with regards to vitamin supplements full stop? I haven't read much, but I thought that there were pretty much opposing camps on the matter, particuarly whether they are actually absorbed, make a difference etc (for people of all ages).

I'll qualify all of that though and point out that I obviously recognise that there are particular circumstances when different milk, vitamins etc will be recommended e.g. allergies, health problems etc.

Anyway, I'll get off my soap box and reiterate that its just a personal opinion. Then I'm off to pack for the Maldives for my holiday with my pal whinegums. Whaddya mean, you're not taking me?!?!?!?

So yesterday, we thought we'd make the first attempt at weaning off the mid-afternoon feed. We gave him some milk in a cup (took about 1oz) then filled him up with a nice calcium busting yoghurt. GAve him his milk... he guzzled it down! [sigh]. I was heartened to hear whoever said their LO increased the water they drank when the milk feed dropped. My really big concern about trying to wean off the mid-afternoon feed is de-hydration as S drinks so little water from his cup. He can drink from a cup, but he just doesn't bother with it too much.

Am now off to look at puree photos and admire bunting.

whinegums - do you still see katyjo? Does she still MN?

  • I've hardly been around lately either!
Rolf · 27/05/2009 22:14

No, not at all, I think she's very good. How can I not like someone who writes about lovely books for children? I've even got a list of the books she recommends that I want to buy [nerdy]

Essie you clever thing! I am very impressed . I saw some bunting in Laura Ashley at the weekend (didn't buy it in the end) and yours is loads better.

That's quite enough smooching, I think

pureeandpearls · 27/05/2009 22:23

Funnily enough she gave Cecily a stack of books for her Christening (mostly from the list!!)

Night all x

bitofadramaqueen · 27/05/2009 23:15

So I happened to come accross the weaning guides I got from the HV way back when and the Nhs Scotland fort says give vitamin drops till the age of 5. Clearly tower hamlets more healthy than the whole of Scotland... I'd do A grin here if I wasn't on the iPod.

Purée I love your photos. So very glam!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 27/05/2009 23:26

Am fucked off, sorry about language, they jabbed DD with a flu jab by mistake at the Doctors this afternoon, and now she us reacting badly so Dh on the sofa again.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 27/05/2009 23:28

Oh and totally agree with BDQ about milk.

bitofadramaqueen · 28/05/2009 07:01

That's awful 5, I hope dd ok this morning.

Morning all!

vivaGlasvegas · 28/05/2009 07:38

BDQ I agree with you on the milk thing, partly because I hate that advert with the giant cup, it's freaky! C is currently mixed fed, BF last thing at night and first thing in the morning, with Aptamil1 2 5oz bottles (or 1 8oz bottle - for no particular reasons) during the day - started this when she went to nursery. She's the same as S with regards to cups too.

vitamins - I've never been given any advice to give them, I'm going with an attempt at a balanced diet (what doesn't hit the walls/floor) and not giving them.

whinegums Did you win? I've checked 3 times so far to see if you've been back to gloat?! (I've been on call tonight so not getting up specially! )

Had to come in to scan a head of a drunk person at 5.45am after C had decided to do 1.5h of random temper screaming from 2 o'clock (she coughed herself awake and boy, was she cross about it) so no point going home before today starts

5gomad that's terrible, how on earth did that happen?

hello PP nice to see you back

pureeandpearls · 28/05/2009 09:00

LMAO at whole of Scotland being less healthy than Tower Hamlets- must be lack of sun and fried chocolate bars. Though I understand you are a HUGE fan of the Welsh so perhaps you should consider a move?!

pureeandpearls · 28/05/2009 09:03

Grrr- daughter has pressed buttons and now I can't use the Return functioon....hmmm. Viva- agree with you that the advert is freaky and actually put me off formula. 5- sounds like every parents' nightmare. Can totally understand the need for language. Hope things are better now (((hugs)))

babybillandsplodge · 28/05/2009 09:27

P&P, have emailed London ladies - Fridays are ok for me at the moment but hoping to win my appeal at work sooner rather than later. The work saga is getting more and more insane and heading ever closer to a claim for discrimination on the grounds of me being pg . BDQ, your comment on my manager is spot on!

I have a meeting with my union rep this afternoon so will keep you posted.

Libra, sorry for your dh's pain, but I have to say that in this house Barcelona's win was cause of much joyness partying! I cannot stand Man U and their smugness - esp Ronaldo and Ferguson. Lovely to see them looking so miserable last night .

Glad others are weaning off formula too - thought I was being a cheapskate!

5, that is awful about your DD - how can they give her the wrong jab ? What an appalling mistake .

whinegums · 28/05/2009 09:43

Morning all. 5 that's shocking about the jab - I would be so cross. Hope DD is ok.

Ah, Amber and BDQ, I'd love to take you. Unfortunately now that DP has read the letter there's no fobbing him off. So we have 7 nights in what looks like a lovely place! I'm going to try and get it booked today for sometime in June. Way hey hey!!!

It's cheering me up today after being up with B from 3am - 5.30am when he was full of beans and wanted to play....

DQ - thank you for the HR advice - to the rest of you - I highly recommend her!!

I'm friends with Katyjo on FB, but she doesn't seem to use it, and I haven't seen her for ages. Think work must get in the way.

Have to go - wave to everyone!

Rolf · 28/05/2009 10:04

"Whinegums" what a great prize. Congratulations

5 that's awful about the jab. I thought they did double checks to make sure that doesn't happen. I hope your DD is ok.

AliandHerScallywag · 28/05/2009 10:08

This thread goes from zero to the speed of light sometimes. I can't keep up.

Anyway - 5 that is seriously bad. How did it happen hope DD is feeling better.

PP and Libra - nice to see you.

Grumbly baby here. Better go.

AliandHerScallywag · 28/05/2009 10:48

Does anyone have any advice on making a will?

Been meaning to do it since last year, and now my Mum is on my case about it because of something she heard on the radio.

I know some of you are lawyers or married to legal types. Is an online will ok, or would you advise going through a face to face solicitor? It should be all very straightforward i.e. leave everything to each other and then to Peter.

DH's parents still haven't made their own wills and they are in their mid sixties , so obviously DH is all for doing it online if at all.

Thanks

Amberc · 28/05/2009 10:55

Five !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You could sue for that.

I can't get into facebook this morning so can't look at any pictures.

I will now be working Mon-Weds - hurrah!!!!! I see a visit to Bromley on the cards...

Can I include any more exclamation marks?

DebInAustria · 28/05/2009 15:33

The good thing about this group is it makes me feel posh by association - banners, bagels, writers, exotic holidays, etc...etc...

Ali - will be interested in the will replies as we haven't got one either

Essie - you clever girl - love the banner

Five at the injection cock up

Just booked a weekend way for us, our guests leave on Saturday then we're going away for 3 nights, planning on a day in a spa and not sure what else, probably some sort of park, keep your fingers crossed for the weather for me - it's ccc cold here today

DebInAustria · 28/05/2009 15:36

Amber - great news on the p/t working

Amberc · 28/05/2009 16:29

By the way I have found family holiday heaven heaven
