Hi all

loulou No it never suggested removing rewards and I have not yet and I did think maybe I should not as they are showing her good behaviour but when I did threaten it she was so good and did as she was told. I would feel abit bad taking one away though! I think I do need to change that plan and just remove a toy again if she is bad.
Chart is fab though and she is so sweet again

heather DD usually follows me upstairs when putting DD2 to bed so I tell her not to and to either go downwstairs and wait for mummy and offer a treat if she can do that or put something on telly for her or set her up with an activity and promise to join her when dd in bed, she usually does it if she knows mummy will play once DD2 asleep

DD weighed today and 16 6 so not a huge amount but she is still doing well. HV very pleased. Recommended more carbs and less milk. Said to eat breakfast like me such as scrambled eggs on toast etc if I had time! So weetabix with toast to follow with a mid morning snack of bread and butter or cheese etc, so off we go tomorrow to get more food in as my children and DH are eating me out of house and home!!!

Right off to sort dd1, dd2 in bed and dd1 will be there soon then I can chill alone maybe with some wino too!

I still don't like celery aubergenie! I do eat it cooked though, as it's not so strong or stringy that way.

Ds has been in a great mood today, and eaten and slept better. Well, he only had one nap, but as he didn't start the day til nearly 10, and that nap was just over an hour long that was enough really. For breakfast he had a muffin spread partly with fresh banana, partly with peanut butter and partly plain. For lunch (which was closer to breakfast and dinner than normal with our late start, so was lighter than norm) he had strawberries, blueberries and pear. For dinner he had mashed potato (he takes the spoon from me and rams it in his mouth), broccoli, carrots and fine green beans (we had pie too).
I think his medicine must be helping him to feel generally brighter .

My mouth ulcers are already feeling a lot better thank you. That paste may be horrid but it obv works!

Might have a day trip to Ikea (and if the mood takes us the big shopping centre in MK too) tomorrow. Want to get a bit more storage like the stuff I got for the playroom, but this time one bit for dd's room and one bit for the utility room, to put all the crafty stuff in which is gradually taking over my utility cupboard.

Talking of fish myjob, ds had fresh salmon yesterday (and once before when up at my parents), and boy does he love it! That might be a good 'lumpy' food to try Q with star, as it's naturally soft and he's v unlikely to choke on it.

When you said homemade tomato sauce pistachio, I was expecting that you'd used fresh tomatoes, possibly even ones grown in a little greenhouse in your garden with your own fair hands .

ok, I tried putting more quinoa in Q's squash. He gagged and gagged and spit it out. I tried cous cous, too... then we tried putting a crushed up soft organix biscuit in yogurt, same thing. I'm going to make more chunks in his purees when I next make them (tomorrow or thursday I think - I make them for a full 7 days, then new stuff after all frozen pots are gone).
Will try lentils tomorrow.
I'm squeamish at the idea of giving him a potato wedge! I'm afraid he'd bite off a huge chunk and choke and never breathe again. I must be the most ridiculous mother on the planet. I want to breastfeed forever... wow... I never thought I would be saying that just 4 months ago when I was dying in agony of the feeling of millions of pieces of glass cutting into me every time he latched on

GruffaloMama · 28/04/2009 20:51

Hi all - thanks for being so welcoming - am inspired to try the butterbean and tomato thing, Pistachio. And chickpea casserole, mjm. All sounds fab! DS has wolfed down most things but have kept it pretty simple so far. Only thing that was hugely rejected (he ate it but threw it up in spectacular fashion - twice) was avocado and banana mush. It was like something from the Exorcist...

BTW I'm called GruffaloMama because my 20 week scan showed DS in a most unflattering light. We were somewhat relieved at the birth that he didn't have horns...

heather1980 · 28/04/2009 20:52

star. i wish i could come round and help you feed Q, i promise that the gagging thing is normal, Q is learning to swallowing something that is not liquid and it takes a few goes, there is a huge difference between gagging and choking. he will only learn to swallow lumps if you feed them to him.

Ekka · 28/04/2009 20:52

I'm impressed with the variety of food everyone feeds their dcs! We have to go slowly with introducing new foods to ds apparently (according to the community children's nurse) as with all his history of eczema & family history of asthma he is much more likely to have reactions..... But he had some banana today and I've never seen him so excited about any food we've tried so far!

Pepper - I don't have to get M weighed, except on days when we go to see the paediatrician. The only reason I went today was the fact that we were in town at the time so I thought I would!

Must go, dh is leaving work now (earlier than expected) and the house is a tip, nothing on for dinner etc, so if he finds me on mn he won't be too impressed

loulou33 · 28/04/2009 20:54

Jenwa - if it works, keep going!! I think i would avoid remiving stars for younger children. I konw Tnaya Byron recommended cross faces or removing stars for older children (over 8) but i think removing a toy or ignoring unacceptable behaviour is probably better. I frequently threaten something in the heat of the moment and know i either won;t/can't follow through on it. Luckily DS1 usually does as he's told once i start to get a bit shouty and threaten things (except yesterday, although he's been great today).

Star - i think Q could do with more carbs and more protein. if you want to raise him as a veggie there's a really good veggie cookbook by carol timperley which is laid out jsut like the ak book but with no meat. this is the one i cook some of the ak recipes using quorn or pulses instead. Butterbeans/cannelini beans are really good

FWIW i love snail and the whale although DS1 prefers Tiddler at the moment and often does the roll call of 'tiddler? tiddler? tiddler's late' full volume in bed before he falls asleep - bless

heather1980 · 28/04/2009 20:56

pistachio, i have about a hundred tomato plants in the greenhouse! i love gardening and have an allotment as well

Heather - I love gardening too. I hope your tomato plants are looking better than mine - they're really leggy. And I still haven't planted out my potatoes. Courgettes and squash are looking good though, and I've got some salad coming through finally. I can't wait till we can cancel our veg box delivery and just live off veg from the garden.

Star - How about hummous? Easy to make, no lumps, full of protein.

CantSleepWontSleep · 28/04/2009 21:16

CSWS. I made some yoghurt today as well.

heather1980 · 28/04/2009 21:34

oh alex loves hummous, tesco do 3 little pots with the dips. i give them to him spread on rice cakes.

Marthasmama · 28/04/2009 21:36

CSWS - I made hummus once and it tasted awful! My favourite hummus is the Morrocan one from M&S, too spicy for little M! I love the one at the 'fairly' local farm shop, yummy yummy!

Aubergenie - You are too wholesome for words

Myjob - Mmmmm sounds lovely. I can't wait until DH comes home and we can eat as a family again.

Ekka - I'm avoiding dairy with M for the time being and am not sure about eggs as DS used to get very sick after eggs. There is no point me trying dairy free and then giving her dairy directly!

I am rubbish tonight, sorry eveyone else. I keep forgetting what you've all said. I'm watching Born to Be Different which is also making very distracted.

Honeymoonmummy · 28/04/2009 21:44

Hello all. Well haven't you all been busy chatting today?? I've read it all but forgotten most of it. Welcome Gruffalomama! Poppy is exactly a month younger than your DS! I shouldn't really be here! That was the first book I bought for Poppy about 2 years before she was conceived!! It's a jigsaw book and I hoped knew I'd have kid(s) eventually!

DH and I have been talking about trying again today, he's a bit nervous about seeing me go through a nightmare labour again, they only told me at the last minute about the stroke thread but he knew for the last few hours of the labour. He said the worst bit was watching my face when I was being stitched up while he was holding Poppy, the labour wasn't so bad cos he was on adrenaline then, he's not said this before. I also talked about the PND and that was the reason I had a go at him so often so I'm hoping he'll take it with a pinch of salt a bit more from now on.

Guess how much I spent at mothercare? NOTHING!! I did get a few bits of baby food from boots tho. It's a nightmare getting stuff without dairy AND onions!!

I forgot about the Mr Whippy ice cream van but I had a quattro formaggio pizza and chocolate sundae at Pizza Express which was GORGEOUS!!!!!! Back to dairy free tomorrow, ho hum... She's not really been more sick than normal this afternoon so we'll see how we get on.

MM I'm sorry to hear you're feeling so down, DH being away so much can't help. I had a bad few days over the weekend after seeing that dog run over but I'm in a much better mood now.

3 sleeps till Poppy Weaning Day!! What are the best apples to use, golden delicious are quite sweet aren't they?

Oh I massaged Poppy again today but noticed she's getting dry skin on her tummy now and I think it's the olive oil. Should I try almond oil, sunflower oil or coconut oil? Any thoughts anyone?
Wow, marathon post!
