Hello. Well done CSWS. I was going to start one but was too scared.

RachieW · 26/04/2009 21:26

CSWS- thank you for adding me to the 'stats'. Am loving being part of the group . Just to fill in the blanks.
Ds is called Jack (due 23rd Oct)- 7lb 4oz- hospital birth, epidural, stitches, 24hrs start to finish.

Ekka · 26/04/2009 21:27

Yay for new thread! Though if Matthew is anything like his sister, we won't have any teeth for quite a few more threads (DD got her first teeth at 11 months)!

CSWS & MM - I really hope your nights improve soon. Dcs can be completely relentless....

Despite our weather forecast being for grey & rainy (at least last time I checked) it was lovely today and we went out for 2 long walks, cue two sleepy dcs tonight. Matthew has been sleeping pretty well, but was really unsettled tonight, and I can hear squeaking noises, so I'm not too hopeful!

aubergenie · 26/04/2009 21:31

Evening all. Lovely shiny new thread! Just popping on so it appears in my list. Back later. Busy busy busy...

RachieW · 26/04/2009 21:32

Ekka we have had full on screams since bedtime and now snuffling noises so I'm not hopeful either!

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/04/2009 21:35

God I'm moaning again, but the roof of my mouth is absolute agony. It really hurts to eat anything. In fact it hurts even when not eating anything. Has been sore for a few days, but is getting much worse. There's no chance of me getting a triple docs appt for tomorrow!

Dh just come down. Apparently dd didn't go to sleep until nearly 9pm. Sleep in this household is just getting fucking ridiculous.

Shall be off to bed in a few mins in the hope of getting a full hour in before ds first wakes.

Hey can I join too?

DS2 Edward Alexander was born on 28th Oct - due on 31st. 7lb 7oz - hospital birth - gas and air, 2nd degree tear. 7 hrs start to finish.

I think I popped up from time to time on the antenatal thread, and I've lurked a bit on this one but I've been a bit slack lately...

Ed is nearly sitting up, started solids last week - he's pretty unimpresseed so far.

Still a total boob monster, won't take a bottle.

He's addicted to being swaddled and can't sleep without it.

He has crazy sticky uppy hair.

He's a LONG way off sleeping through, generally waking 3 times between 7 pm and 7 am to feed, sometimes only twice if we're lucky.

He has dry skin and eczema patches and I think he may have hayfever.

He's very smiley when he's being nice and has huge blue eyes.

That's Ed in a nutshell

I also have DS1 2.6 who was a MUCH easier baby than his little brother

Good evening to all

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/04/2009 21:43

Hi jojay. I remember your name from ante-natal.

If you've been lurking then you'll know that I am the queen of dairy free living. Have you tried it for Ed's skin/hayfever problems?

jenwa · 26/04/2009 21:44

Hi all
I am here too
Welcome jojay and a fab update on Ed.

Phoebe is 6 months today how quickly time is going. She is poorly at the mo with a cough but is happy!

MM I read your thread re your DH and your lie and it was like reading about my morning....same thing! What the F**k is the point in a lie in when you come down to have to do what you normally do plus tidy their shit up! DH has been on the net all day looking at cars and I am thinking about being single as he has not done much else, always tells me he is working hard in the week but would be nice if he did somehting productive here!
I went in to town on my own yesterday and left him for 3 hours and it was mad when I got home, he was totally stressed and stroppy and the house was a shit hole
bah!
Anyway whinge over, am off to bed soon to read my book and chill out as not sure if DD will be up in the night coughing.
DH off to spain Tues so have afew days on my own (with kids of course) but actually looking forward to it

Marthasmama · 26/04/2009 21:44

Hello Jojay. My we are becoming popular!

CSWS - Could it be oral thrush? Very painful and makes everything taste horrible. You must be soooo run down from the lack of sleep that you're bound to get all sorts of infections etc. Sleep is pretty shit in this house too, though ds is not as bad as your dd. He isn't sleeping enough and is being a turd as a result. He really suffers when he doesn't get enough. I hate summer because it's too light. [grumpy]

Thank you Ekka. I do too!

RachieW · 26/04/2009 21:46

CSWS- do you think it could be an allergy? Only mentioning because my mum developed one in the last 2 years, certain foods make the roof of her mouth feel like it's been burnt. Tomatoes were the worst, they left her in absolute agony. Hope you get a better nights sleep and an appt with the Dr tomorrow.

Hi Joyjay!

Jojay · 26/04/2009 21:53

Thanks CSWS and jenwa

I had thought about the dairy thing CSWS. His skin has got worse in the last week or so, so I'm in the process of trying to pinpoint the cause, if that will be possible.

I'd been using aqueous cream as an emollient but I've now been told that it shouldn't be used in this way so I'm after something else to use. I bought some Epaderm today, we'll see how that goes. I've tried Aveeno - any other recommendations?? I may take him to the GP this week if it foesn;t improve and see if I can get something on prescription. I don't really want steroids though if we can help it.

I've also just changed to non bio and no softener for his clothes so we'll see if hat helps.

If no joy, then yes, dairy free for me may be the next step.

I'm not sure if it is hayfever though, TBH. The skin round his eyes is red and itchy so it was my first thought but on closer inspection, tonight it looks like eczema / dry skin on his eyelids and round his eyes. The inner parts of his eye look fine.

Ho hum. We'll see.

heather1980 · 26/04/2009 21:55

ohh a shiney new thread!

not really much going on today, i've been running round doing errands and stuff, but alex did the biggest poo in the world, it was everywhere, up his back and down his legs! yuck yuck

he's eaten loads today, he ate a banana, 3 rice cakes, 4 roast spuds, half a teacake, half a crumpet 6 carrot sticks and 3 strawberries. oh and he had a good suck on a bit of roast beef. he's such a greedy pig!

i have a dilema ladies, someone offered me some girls clothes on freecycle for dd, i went and collected them and they STINK of ciggs i have washed them twice and aired them outside, they still smell faintly but a 3rd wash should clear it, however now they are dry i can see the clothes are in a bad way. they are out of shape and just grotty looking, (some of them were dirty when i was given them) i have no idea what to do with them, should i charity shop them or just bin them?

RachieW · 26/04/2009 21:59

Jojay- ds had an outbreak of eczema when he was about 4 months old and he was prescribed Epaderm. It cleared his skin up really quickly but we were lucky the outbreak was quite mild. I like it because it's quite a greasy cream so seems to keep his skin moisturised for longer. I still use it now as his skin is very dry but at the moment eczema free. I also use non-bio to wash all of his clothes.

heather1980 · 26/04/2009 22:02

why were you told that about aqueous cream? it is an emolient and can just be rubbed on the skin wet or dry.
another one is emulsifying ointment which is a greasier version of aqueous cream.

the most popular ones i see at work are
aqueous cream
emulsifying oint
diprobase
e45
epaderm
oilatum
aveeno

then there are mixes like
50/50 light and liquid parafin
white or yellow parafin
aqueous cream and menthol
etc.

RachieW · 26/04/2009 22:06

Heather- Poor girls too if it's taken 3 washes to remove the smoke smell. I've not had anything from freecyle yet but imagined it would be good quality seconds. I'd probably give the best of them to the charity shop and bin any really bad ones as they won't be able to sell them.

Marthasmama · 26/04/2009 22:06

Heather - If they're that bad I'd bin them or if your conscience (sp?) won't let you, put them in one of those clothes bins.

Jojay - I am using Aveeno on M as she has very sore itchy eczema legs. I have also been using Simple Eczema cream and the combination seems to be working. Every no and then it flairs up but I have no idea what is causing it. I was being stubborn as I hate being df and am convinced that it didn't help ds when he was a baby but think I will have to give it a try. I got diprobase from the dr which worked on ds but makes M really itchy. Oh and I think M has hayfever too as she has been really sneezy and has red eyes too. However, she probably has red eyes as she won't sleep!

Jenwa - Bloody men. DH is now moaning that he hasn;t had a moment to himself all day, which is fair enough, but at least he hasn't had a grumpy baby stuck to him all day and all night for the last two weeks! Hrumph!

heather1980 it was this thread that I started, where it came up, about the aqueous cream.

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/04/2009 22:16

heather - I think that charity shops are quite fussy nowadays, so might be best to add them to your duster pile.

Oral thrush could be a possibility I suppose, esp as I suspect that dd's sore girly bits at the mo might be thrush. She has prob fiddled with herself then shoved her hand in my mouth - delightful.

I blardy hope it's not an allergy rachie, as I can't face the thought of avoiding even more foods.

Oh crap, ds waking after only 2hrs 20. We usually get a longer first stint.

OP posts:
Jojay · 26/04/2009 22:19

It doesn't seem to make a huge amount of difference what we use on Ed's dry skin, but the frequency of application does. Dh did an experiment today and did his legs at every nappy change, and they feel lovely this evening, whereas his tummy is still dry.

So I think it's quantity, not quality to an extent, if that makes sense.

Marthasmama · 26/04/2009 22:23

Oh yuck CSWS! I am convinced that I have thrush in my gut as I when I get run down I get the unholy trinity of thrush. Oral thrush is the worst. Oh and they can sense when you;re going for an ealry night, M always can and wakes up just as I am about to turn in. Is D a light sleeper? M is, which is strange as we used to watch films on DH's laptop in our room while she was asleep when she was a newborn. You could have thrown ds down the stairs and he would have stayed asleep when he was a baby.

Jojay · 26/04/2009 22:26

Off to bed now, night all. Hope your lo's give you a good night.

heather1980 · 26/04/2009 22:59

well i've been off work 6 months jojay!
we usually recommend it as a 1st line treatment.

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/04/2009 23:27

ds still not settled. Dh trying now.
