Oh, we're watching that MM. Dp has already been in tears. It must be so hard for those families.

lol at wholesome.

Honeymoonmummy · 28/04/2009 21:46

Stroke thread should read stroke threat

CantSleepWontSleep · 28/04/2009 21:51

I wouldn't use almond oil until you've established that she's ok with nuts hmm. Would be quite surprised if it's olive oil causing the problem, but should think that sunflower or coconut would be ok to try if you want. Is coconut oil easy to get hold of ?

Right, am going to log off and go to bed I think.

Marthasmama · 28/04/2009 21:55

Hmm - EXCITING!!! Yay for trying for more babies! Now that you;ve had one terrible labour they'll have a better idea how to manage it next time. You'll probably have a consultation about options at some point. When were you thinking? We're planning for this time next year. Unless M is a nightmare toddler of course. I can't help re: the oil though. The only thing I use on M is eczema cream! Glad you're feeling better after the stupid dog incident. I knew that would affect you.

Honeymoonmummy · 28/04/2009 21:55

I've just read on another thread that the almond oil is taken from the flower rather than the nut apparently. I have no idea about coconut oil, again I just read it on another thread. I know what you mean re surprised but she had red patches all over by the time I'd finished and her skin has never been dry on her tummy before and not changed anything else. I shouldn't have used it again tonight really but she's been straining all day again today and I wanted to try to get her to poo again! No luck tho!!

Is it OK to use dried apricots as a first food to help with the constipation?

Honeymoonmummy · 28/04/2009 21:57

Thanks MM. We were thinking about an 18 month gap between the two so that would be August to start trying. Which is only 3 months away HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!

Marthasmama · 28/04/2009 21:58

Aubergenie - DH would not be able to watch. He really can't handle seeing anything to do with ill children. He would probably cry his eyes out, he's a very sensitive soul. How's DP's blue fluffy pants?

CantSleepWontSleep · 28/04/2009 21:58

Apricots fine as first food, but I'd use tinned rather than dried, as softer/more moist.

OP posts:
Marthasmama · 28/04/2009 22:00

Heh heh heh! Go for it hmm but I'm sad that you won't be with me and also as you'll have another lovely baby.

Marthasmama · 28/04/2009 22:01

If you're going to use dried you have to puree them and boil them up first so they go nice a plump. CSWS's suggestion would save the faffing.

aubergenie · 28/04/2009 22:04

HMM - Someone recommended Waitrose Bottom Butter to me for S's dry skin. Haven't tried it yet though.

You should be able to get hold of coconut oil if you live near a large Asian grocers. But coconut oil is solid, I think, so you might have to warm it up.

Hope you get some good sleep CSWS.

Honeymoonmummy · 28/04/2009 22:07

I live in the middle of Cheshire. So no Asian grocers basically! And Waitrose is a while away, the coconut oil was "Fractionated coconut oil" whatever that means!

I had no idea you could get tinned apricots, thanks! Could I do that with apple do you think on the second day?

Honeymoonmummy · 28/04/2009 22:08

By the way there was a discussion re BLW v purees on Radio 4 today, I missed half of it unfortunately and can't get the sound file to work but if you can; www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/womanshour/02/2009_17_tue.shtml

aubergenie · 28/04/2009 22:11

HMM - You don't think it could be the dairy causing P's dry skin do you? It's probably a bit soon to see a reaction, isn't it.

to trying for another baby. I like the idea but I'm too bloody tired.

In fact, I'm going to bed now. Night ladies.

Honeymoonmummy · 28/04/2009 22:36

No, it came on ast night/ this morning, after the massage. The red blotches might be the dairy but the dry skin is the olive oil I think.

I'm quite surprised I haven't seen a reaction to the dairy yet, the reaction to the onion was within the hour.

I too am off to bed, Night all!

Oh by the way, MM, is there anything you want to tell us about your relationship with a budgie?

Honeymoonmummy · 28/04/2009 22:44

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/746592-Did-a-pigeon-come-in-my-face?addwatch=1

Right definitely going to bed now!

heather1980 · 28/04/2009 23:11

you can get coconut oil in chemist shops. they may need to order it in though, iirc it comes in a 100g pot. it does come as a solid block but you just gently warm it up.

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/04/2009 03:09

Grr - am not getting the sleep I need to manage day out.

I was with you csws. q couldn't lay flat last night or else he couldn't breathe.. nose all clogged up and coughing really yucky cough. He fell asleep on top of me at 12.30 and I fell asleep and then he woke and I thought, "wow, that was a good sleep!" then I looked at my clock.... 12.48! ha! I couldn't help but laugh!! Then he was on and off sleep and feed every half hour or so, more sucking than feeding, then up for the day at 2am. He's still up and VERY HAPPY, yet clogged nose and cough. Strange.

HMM make sure apricots are brown rather than orange. They are brown when they dry... a chemical is used to keep them orange. You can get organic dried apricots in a bag (I forgot the brand name) from most shops and they are soft (like tinned ones) too so cuts out the boiling part.

Can someone tell me if plum organic fromage frais (no sugar!) is acidic like other yogurt...? You mentioned something about this heather, about yogurt being very acidic. Q just really likes it. Tried some lumps again this morning. he gagged and coughed and just refused the food as he never refuses food!

Marthasmama · 29/04/2009 08:35

Hmm - Ha! You noticed my contribution eh?! We had a young male budgie and he would shag everything! He loved tissues the most and would carry them round in his foot and take them to different locations. On the day in question he was doing his usual, trying to feed me seeds then he jumped down off my shoulder and started to try to feed my hand, which was on my knee. Well he decided that my knee looked particulalry attractive that evening so, well, I think we can all guess. Only I didn't notice, not until it was too late. I had a small yellow/orange circle on my jeans. It stained, I threw the jeans away.

CSWS - I was up at that time too. I had another terrible night too and am not coping as well as normal. Maybe PMT-y. M was up at 12, 1, 3 - 4.50 then went back to sleep until 7. She went to bed at 8.

We got DS's school photo proof last night . Poor little fella always looks like Dewey from Malcom in the Middle in photos. He's a really good looking little boy but so un-photogenic.

heather1980 · 29/04/2009 08:44

yoghurt contains lactic acid which is a by-product of the fementation process. it's what gives plain yoghurt its tangy taste. flavourings are added to yoghurt to mask the tangy flavour.
fromage frais is curd cheese. it means fresh cheese in french.

heather1980 · 29/04/2009 08:48

we had an ok night sleep wise down at 7:30, up at 8:30, 8:45, 10pm and 11pm. he slept through then till 6am .
he is usually wide awake at 6am which is not good. i don't do early mornings.

star6 · 29/04/2009 09:06

so fromage frais is not acidic? Sorry to be dense

heather1980 · 29/04/2009 09:12

it is as its made from curdled cheese. but its also got cream added so less acidic than yoghurt.
all dairy products are acidic in some way which is why they advise you avoid dairy if you have an upset tummy.

star6 · 29/04/2009 09:15

Thanks We've cut down to one fromage frais per day. What would I do without MN??
