quick question - is it ok to puree apples with skins on or do they need to be peeled? Been peeling them... just thinking like a lazy mummy

Rhian82 · 07/05/2009 17:29

Can I rejoin - I was a member of the Oct 08 antenatal once upon a time but haven't been here in a while!

(DS was born 17th Oct, first baby so all a learning curve!)

Star - I can't see why you couldn't keep the skin as long as they'd been well cleaned.

MM - I know what you mean with the grabbing, DS does that as well. Pulls it out of his mouth then gets all annoyed about it not being there until he manages to get back on.

I'm lighter now than before I was pregnant - I've assumed it's to do with breastfeeding as I never really manage to have all the extra calories I'm apparently supposed to. So DS gets bigger and I waste away! It sounds great but I've had to buy new jeans as my old ones didn't fit, and I got a bit upset when I tried a top on and it absolutely hung off me, looked so unattractive And uncurvy, which is stupid as I do have breasts!

jenwa · 07/05/2009 17:30

lozza sorry meant to say I dont know re the protein thing, I had not heard that.

mm a size 4!!! WTF!!!! what is that Agree way too thin. I need to tone up as back to pre preg weight but still bit bigger in places, extra skin on my belly and my bum has filled out .

star I think you are meant to peel them but I neve last time as long as it all mushes up, just check as it could go int ot a little lump and I know you would corry about choking

jenwa · 07/05/2009 17:31

Welcome rhian and congrats on your DS

It is a shame, we are all so unhappy with our bodies I was unhappy with mine before babies now want that one back

Marthasmama · 07/05/2009 17:34

Hello Rhian and welcome back, although I wasn't here antenatally!!

Jenwa - I was tiny, but then I am 5ft 3 and have size 2-3 feet. I had a 22inch waist. I bloody loved being that skinny, it was excellent. I do not plan to get that thin again, don't think I'll be able to. I have size 0 clothes in my cupboard I weighed 7st

Star - It is best to peel apples, DH chokes on apple peel so Q could too. And yes, I mean DH.

Marthasmama · 07/05/2009 17:41

Jenwa - I would love to have my old stomach back. It was fabulous. I used to be a gym bunny and looked like this when I was 24 except I never had the bottom of my boobs hanging out I still thought I needed to lose more weight. Duh! There is no hope for my gut now. The skin is no longer stuck to the muscle. After ds was born I used my tens on the tone up programme and even though I had it on the highest setting, I couldn't feel it on my tummy. The muscles weren't contracting as they were no longer attached! and yuck!

Marthasmama · 07/05/2009 19:41

Have I made you all feel sick with my tales of my hideous tummy and pictures of the bottom of Geri Halliwell's boobs?

jrsqueak · 07/05/2009 19:42

I so need to post more often. I do keep reading but then never get chance to post. J is definitely allergic to cows milk. Although we tried pureeing weaning as I was a puree-er with other dc but J didn't like it so hv told me to try again in a few weeks but I read up a little on blw and I am so pleased - he has just had for his tea - cauliflower, broccolli, roast potato and yorkshire pudding. I am one proud mummy!!
With regards to the milk allergy anybody any idea on good milks, cheeses and yoghurts that we could use.
Am so envious of all those whose babies are sleeping through. Everytime we think we are about to get in a routine something is wrong. We have had chest infections, tonsilitis and impitigo!! I'm sure we'll get there in the end

Rhian82 · 07/05/2009 19:45

We seem to be getting everything as well at the moment - had a skin infection a while ago, a viral and an ear infection a couple of weeks ago, and now he's got an ear infection poor thing.

DS slept through for a week in February, but his sleeping's just got steadily worse ever since! We're currently trying DH seeing to him in the night instead, just offering him water, as we think he's got into the habit of only being able to sleep after breastfeeding. At the moment though he's just waking lots and screaming at DH!

Marthasmama · 07/05/2009 19:46

JrS - once you're out of the loop it's so hard to jump back in isn't it?! Even if I have been away for a day (which is a life time for me ) I find it really hard to edge my way back in! M is not sleeping through, not anywhere near! Well done on the eating! I made M the dish that ds loved when he was her age and she HATED it. Ungrateful baby!

Rhian82 · 07/05/2009 19:48

Oops, that was meant to say he's now got an eye infection. Have to rub ointment in!

Marthasmama · 07/05/2009 19:53

M had a smelly belly button today! I felt really bad. I gave it a good wash and then filled it with Sudocream. I think it should be ok. It didn't smell after her bath. M was knackered tonight but I guarantee that she'll still be awake for half the night.

Heh heh Myjob - you really have nothing to worry about body wise. I'm sure that in a while when you've finished bfing your body will calm down and go back to almost normal. With the nipple grabbing, M gets a loud 'No' then I move her hand away. She mostly enjoys pulling hair!

Marthasmama · 07/05/2009 20:05

I have done one wash so far. I am going to do one before bad and another in the morning when we get up (or in the middle of the night when I come down to get a drink). Then we shall be ready to go on Saturday (and DH will be home to learn with me). Even DS is excited!

I had to re-read just in case I had made a Freudian Slip there! That might be a good idea. Come down drink a glass of wine (because that is all it would take these days) and just sleep through the crying. No, I'd never sleep through the crying. Having a drink would only make me more tired and the situation worse!

jenwa · 07/05/2009 20:18

mm lol re your Geri pics! I bet you did have your boobs out though haha! I bloody would if I looked that good

I am depressed about my tummy but I do think like you say the skin is no longer attached and with both pregnancies by tummy muscles have come apart

Why do famous people never appear to have theses probs Posh spice wears a swimming cosi that attached over her tumy as she says her tummy has loose skin cant be that friggin loose!

I think a whole new wardrobe would do the trick, never being with another man and never being seen naked anywhere (not that I go about being naked ) Then maybe I would be ok. I always fear DH will leave me and I will be left on the back of the shelf Mind you, the way we moan about our DH's maybe I would be fine alone if he did go!!! Ohh that has made me wonder if Bethoo is still with her fancy man, she was a sexy minx, would'nt you just love to see her facebook profile . Wish she would pop back to say hi!

CantSleepWontSleep · 07/05/2009 20:19

Welcome back Rhian. Did you know that breastmilk is the best medicine for clearing eye infections? Just squirt a bit in when you're feeding .

jrsqueak - presume you want milk subs for use with weaning foods, rather than as a main drink? If so, use rice or oat milk, or almond milk if you know that he is ok with nuts (and can afford it - it's yummy but expensive!). You can give an occasional soya yoghurt (alpro), but too much soya isn't a good idea this young. Hard cheese substitutes are universally vile, so I wouldn't even bother trying them. There's a soft 'cheese' called toffuti that you can get from Holland & Barrett and the like, which isn't too bad.

I would peel the apple star.

Am flagging now, as have been awake since 3:30am.

I would definitely stay on my own if DH left me. Actually I'd move in with my mummy. I would NOT be interested in another bloke. And yes I did have part of my boobs out, the top though, not the bottom. I used to go running in what was essentially a bra and pants! I spent most of my time exercising so didn't get much time to enjoy how good my body looked. I just obsessed about muscles and being able to see them working in the gym. I was in the gym 15 hours a week. Plus running 6 miles, three times a week and exercising at home. It all went out the window when I re-met DH! We spent too much time drinking and eating out to worry about the gym. Plus we had our own workout

CantSleepWontSleep · 07/05/2009 20:23

Where are you going on Sat MM? Are you off to visit myjob?

OP posts:
star6 · 07/05/2009 20:26

Ugh, nipple grabbing! Q also shoves his fingernails in near his mouth and stretches me as far as he can go... I swear he thinks I'm gumby
Ok, I just pureed all together... this:
steamed organic courgette (with skin on)
steamed mange tout (not organic but I washed then boiled them... probably sucked out all the nutrients!)
AK pasta stars (gluten free...etc.)
1/2 organic banana
6 organic cherry tomatoes (fresh)

For fruit dish
steamed washed organic apple (with skin on)
organic blueberries (fresh)

I made the savoury dish up myself... it sounds gross, doesn't it... he LOVED it!!! I was trying to get in a pasta or rice so he'd have something more filling in it. I've only been giving fruit and veg so far and I want him to feel more "full" at bedtime so he only needs bedtime and maybe one more feed...
He likes lentils, too. and I often puree brown rice up mixed in with his veg. Didn't put hte apple in this time with the savoury one... what do you all think? Does it sound completely wrong? The stars pureed to little cous cous sized lumps and he didn't choke

jrsqueak · 07/05/2009 20:26

Thanks csws. Do you know if you can make own yoghurt and rice pudding from rice milk etc. and does anyone know if you can make yoghurt and if so how?

CantSleepWontSleep · 07/05/2009 20:31

I think aubergenie might make her own yoghurt, so can poss advise on that. You can make rice pudding with rice milk, or coconut milk works well I think.

Star - if you are blending the pasta then save yourself some cash and buy normal stuff (gluten free if you're still steering clear) instead of paying a premium for AK stuff.
