Hello
Well had call this am that Gran was not well and not long left so went up there but missed her by about half hour she had died very soon after they called my parents.
It is so sad but she had lived a long good life. Just a sad time now and not ure how to tell DD1 Think will just go down the "granny was very poorly and now is in the stars" like we have with the animals!

Headache now and feel bit odd. Kissed her goodbye though.

Jojay · 04/05/2009 14:02

So sorry Jenwa

heather1980 · 04/05/2009 14:24

jenwa i'm so sorry, my gran is ill as well atm, she should be ok but it was a sad time for all at the beginning.
just give dd an extra big hug from me (and have one for yourself too)

RachieW · 04/05/2009 16:56

Jenwa- so sorry to hear about your Gran xx

aubergenie · 04/05/2009 17:06

So sorry to hear about your Gran Jenwa.

Happy birthday pistachio .

Very sorry about your gran Jenwa.

myjob - I think that aubergenie meant sitting in the trolley (like the photo I put on fb), rather than in the lay back baby bit.

sorry you had a crap night mm. Hoping that tonight is better for you.

Jojay - ds is less interested in food at breakfast than at other times of day too, but dd has always been the same. He did wolf down his blueberries for breakfast today, and then had just a little bit of cereal (dry puffed wheat and then raisin wheats with milk).

Hope cetreparcs is good loulou.

Happy 'birthday' Pistachio

CSWS - that's interesting about breakfast. DS1 eats mountains at breakfast and eats less as the day goes on - I guess they're all different.

Myjob - Ed can't roll yet either, though he is a bit younger than Naomi. I think he'll be sitting before he rolls as he's pretty much there with that. Saying that, he did roll once - I left him on his front and went to the loo and when I came back he was on his back - and I missed it! He's never done it again though.

He had sausage, broccoli and green beans for tea - the broccoli was a hit, so we could be in for an interesting nappy tomorrow

Marthasmama · 04/05/2009 20:29

Jenwa - Sorry about your Gran. Was DD1 close to your Granny? She'll probably surprise you and be very grown up about it. But I imagine you'll give your girls an extra tight squeeze tonight.

Myjob - Stop worrying! They do things at their own pace and N is putting all her energy into growing at the moment!

Loulou - Have a good holiday. Are you going to the one Ooop North?

Happy Birthday Pistachio. I can't remember the last time I properly celebrated my birthday but then you haven't hit to big 3-0 yet have you?

CSWS - I don't think M had even calories in her last night. Tonight she has had a little bit of sea bass, broccoli, and fennel for her dinner. I would never have believed that steamed broccoli could be so messy! She almost has her pincer grasp mastered. I gave her some live yoghurt with pureed fruit for pudding so we'll see if dairy does affect her eczema. Nice and fatty though. M is the same as D, not interested in food (or milk) in the morning but scoffs everything she gets in the evening. DS will eat anything at anytime. He has eaten leftover curry for breakfast with dh before!

DH is away for the last time this week! Yay, I think.....

aubergenie · 04/05/2009 21:16

Myjob - Please don't worry about N not rolling. S still can't roll either. They'll get there in the end. CSWS is right about the trolley - he was sitting up in it. But, thinking about it, he hasn't been in a trolley at all before because I normally shop online, then pop to the supermarket with the buggy (and a basket) for odds and ends. So it must have been doubly exciting!

I've been madly busy in the garden today, repainting some very knackered old garden furniture. Much as I'd love to, we just can't justify getting any new stuff, so I've bought some lovely green paint ("seagrass"), and I'm going to go to ikea and get some cheap fabric to make cushions to match.

Heather - I'm very impressed with Alex's crawling abilities, but secretly glad that S isn't at that stage yet, as we've got so many things that need to be done to make the flat safer. Also, Star, didn't you say that Q is nearly there too?

MM- Can I come round yours for dinner? Seabass and fennel sounds lovely. I love fish, but dp doesn't like it, so we never have it, unless I just cook for myself. I'm hoping to get S on my side, so we can eat fish together.

Ooh, I got some of that Waitrose Bottom butter, and it's really lovely on S's dry skin. I've also got loads on my face as my skin's really dry at the moment. Apparently there was a supermarket stampede for it last year.

heather1980 · 04/05/2009 21:18

evening ladies, i've been busy today in the garden, we have dug up the garden and i spent all day finishing it off and laying the lawn. i ache now though!

myjob - agree stop worrying, alex doesn't have any teeth yet and he still can't sit up. my dd was 10 months before she crawled and 14 months when she walked so they are all different, i think the sheer size of alex helps him move. i weighed him on the bathroom scales and he was approx 22lb! big fatty.

jojay - the food nappies are awful, how i yearn for bf poo! alexs bum stinks esp if he's had meat.

RachieW · 04/05/2009 21:25

Well I knew it was too good to be true saying that weaning was going well. We introduced breakfast on saturday as well as lunch and since then ds has eaten less and less. Today he point blank refused to eat anything off a spoon and cried if I tried. I did however give him two toast crusts which he sucked happily and three steamed bits of courgette which I was planning to puree. He seemed to like this too. I'm thinking I might try blw as he seems to want to try food this way.

I've read an article by Gill Rapley so am grasping what it's all about. Also got dh to read it and he thinks it sounds a good way to go which I'm pleased about as he'd previously been all for no mess eating, not letting ds hold the spoon etc.

How do you blw pros do it though? Any tips you can give would be great as I'm feeling a little bit lost without my Annabel Karmel style meal plans

aubergenie · 04/05/2009 21:36

Rachie, I had big plans to do BLW then lost my nerve at the last minute because I was so frightened of choking. We did purees for about a week and I found it a total pita. I got the book from the library and it made so much sense and really helped me to feel more confident about it. I'd recommend getting hold of a copy if you're feeling a bit unsure as there are lots of tips in it.

Also, this site is really useful.

Marthasmama · 04/05/2009 21:43

Aubergenie - DS loves fish. He chooses it above anything else. He particularly loves salmon, especially smoked salmon. I have to get the reduced salt stuff from Sainsbury's as he yums it down. DS also eats olives houmous, spinach, curry, prawns, raw onion, duck and he doesn't like McDonalds. He'd prefer to go to the pub and have fish and veggies! Which is probably in part why he managed to get over measles in three days. Have you tried DP on some 'meaty' fish like swordfish or marlin? DH was not a fish fan until we started going out, but I love fish so he had to get used to it quickly. You might find that if the fish isn't too fishy he might change his mind.

Rachie - I find BLW is SO much more satisfying than purees. M enjoys it much more and that fact that they are feeding themselves makes it feel more natural IYSWIM. When I weaned DS BLW was not 'invented' as we still weaned at 4 months back then (in the olden days). Weaning this time round is hilarious!

Honeymoonmummy · 04/05/2009 21:47

Oh I'm so sorry Jenwa. Didn't you go and visit her not long ago? I had the same situation with my grandad, the hospital called and we didn't make it in time. Just take it easy and look after yourself while you're feeling weird x

I've just popped into the office to catch up, Poppy is 6 months tomorrow. This time last year I was screaming for them to stop the induction drip I'm off anyway, may pop back before I go to bed.

CantSleepWontSleep · 04/05/2009 21:48

Rachie - if you're giving eg carrots and potatoes, just put one of each on the tray at a time, so that they don't all get knocked off. Make sure your floor is reasonably clean, and give stuff back that gets dropped.
Give what you're having even if you think it will be difficult as a finger food - just strip him off first if it's really messy (there's video on my fb of ds having chilli and rice). Use a crinkle cutter if he's struggling to get a good grip on stuff.
And don't sweat about how much he eats.

Jenwa. I am so sorry about your gran. It is good you said goodbye.

CSWS, shit sleeping. Nuff said.

HMM I will go back and look at your links. I reakon I am a PITA.

William is happy to take what ever he is given apart from a banana. Although he is beginning to want to do most things for himself. He is crawling now. Not fast but he can push himself around quite happily. The flip side is he has fallen off the bed twice. Scared the living daylights out of himself.

I have been burning the candle at both ends this weekend. Brilliant. My first beer for nearly two years

Honeymoonmummy · 04/05/2009 21:51

Thought I'd stopped the first one "This time last year"???

Oh forgot to say, I had a bit of a meltdown before, threw one of Poppy's bottles across the room Poppy and DH weren't in the same room, I hasten to add. I was trying to get her off to sleep cos she was obviously tired and she was just screaming for 5 mins when I was rocking her. I just feel like a crap mummy today. I ended up going to sleep for an hour or 2 while DH looked after Poppy. Apparently he calmed her down then tried to get her to sleep again (like I should've done) but she only slept for 10 mins. Do you all actively rock your babies/ put them down to sleep during the day? Or do they just "drop off"?

aubergenie · 04/05/2009 21:56

MM- Dp is scared of so many foods, it's ridiculous. He hadn't had a strawberry till he was about 18. I used to live in Japan and I love sushi but he's too frighted of it. He's loads more adventurous than he used to be, and cooks a lot more too, but I have to tread carefully. A prawn, for example, would be a step too far I might get some fish in for me and get him to try it though.

Marthasmama · 04/05/2009 21:58

Hmm - M does not sleep in the day unless it is on me. I try to move her but she wakes up. I have tried to get her into her cot during the day, same routine as night time (save for the bath) but she wakes up and just looks at me like I'm mad. Don't beat yourself up about losing it, you are allowed to. I find that M's crying drives me crazy and I get really stressed, like a strange hormonal thing. After M's terrible night last night she was super grumpy by 5 tonight. She soon perked up when she saw her dinner.

Honeymoonmummy · 04/05/2009 22:05

She doesn't like being cuddled, it really gets me down sometimes. She's always pushing away with her arms, she's such a wriggly baby. I love it when she's asleep as it's my only chance to get wriggle-free cuddles! She was in a good mood before I started to rock her to sleep then she changed instantly.

On the bright side, she loved carrot and apricot today! She's tried a few times to grab the spoon/ food in her own hands. I'm starting to get tempted by BLW...

RachieW · 04/05/2009 22:08

Thanks for all the tips- I'm feeling quite excited and relaxed about feeding now whereas earlier today I was in full stress mode. I just feel like I've fought ds since about 11 weeks with his bottles and I don't want to do it with food. Tbh I shouldn't fight with bottles but it's hard when he's had 2oz in the last 4 hours Ironically he is now loving his bottles- little monkey.

HMM- Don't beat yourself up, I have similar episodes, in fact last night ds woke when he didn't want too and screamed the house down. I ended up losing it and telling him to "stop it" in a mid-shouting very harsh teacher voice. Dh walked out of the room in shock, ds stopped screaming immediately- probably shocked too . It did calm him but I felt evil afterwards. I agree with MM, think it's the hormones, and lack of sleep, worry, stress....
