Hi All
Sorry kept reading yesterday then did not get time to post as DDs were needy

Agree with the baby talk thing too! MIL used to say " lets go look for copters" I said "whats a copter" "a helicopter" she owuld reply My mum woriks for speech therapy and she always says you should say the correct word like you say you otherwise have to teach it again to them!

Haha re my professions sorry I was being rather, it started when I accidently pressed welder then that made me chuckle so had to have a laugh with it !!! Not so talented really then!

Went to friends last night to meet the vicor who is christening her daughter and I am god mother. Then had to catch up with DH as she came back and then we were discussing cars so am shattered as went to bed late, luckily we had to wake DDs up this am

Got loads of housework to do now so see you all later.

hm have a good weaning day!

jenwa · 01/05/2009 09:36

aubergenie If you feel like that come to mine and rip it out and re design it please

aubergenie · 01/05/2009 09:47

Yes, I've tried Bonjela and various teething powders. As this seems to happen every night, I don't feel comfortable giving Calpol all the time.
I have to admit that I think the amber necklace thing is probably a load of hocus pocus and I'm not particularly keen on the idea of S wearing a necklace but, quite frankly, I'm feeling a bit desperate. Which one did you get CSWS?

Marthasmama · 01/05/2009 09:49

Jenwa - I sense that, overall, you're not really a fan of your MIL. I know what you mean. The problem is, everyone else thinks mine is an absolute sweetie, only my mum, DH and I know the truth......

Marthasmama · 01/05/2009 09:53

Aubergenie - S is so hunky and manly that he'll be able to carry off the necklace. M is suffering with hers too and I have been giving her calpol but I don't want to keep giving it to her either. There's not even a hint of tooth coming through so it's going to be ages

Jenwa - forgot to add. See you must be foxy otherwise the idea of you being a pole dancer wouldn't have been so feasible.

CantSleepWontSleep · 01/05/2009 09:54

This one aubergenie. At least they look nice even if they don't work!

MM. I was thinking more about him being strangled, but thanks for the compliment!

I'm not keen on baby talk either, but I think you can also go too far the other way. DP's mum always used to make him and his brother use the proper words for things. He's got a really vivid memory of using the word "penis" at his neighbour's house when he was really little and she was absolutely outraged.

Marthasmama · 01/05/2009 10:15
Wink
aubergenie · 01/05/2009 10:25

Oh my god - I just went to make ds's breakfast, and was about to spread coffee butter icing all over his pitta bread instead of hummous.

I had some left over in the fridge from yesterday's cakes and the bowls look exactly the same.

I won't add that suggestion to HMM's FB weaning thread.

star6 · 01/05/2009 10:26

can you buy teething necklaces anywhere or just online? I'm usually an online shopper, but I want to see one of these first.

star6 · 01/05/2009 10:27

How does he eat the pita bread, aubergenie? Does he just hold it and bite off of it? How does he swallow it? Sorry I'm obsessed with this...

jenwa · 01/05/2009 10:27

Sorry my spelling was bad there! Whoops, was rushing again!!!

MM about the 'foxy' comment, I wish would be a good profession though, would certainly tone my belly up and would get rich too !!! haha!! also, yes my MIl can be a pain and like yours everyone thinks the sun shines out her .....! but she can be so lovely too, I suppose its not until you really know someone they show what they can really be like, especially when THEIR grandchildren come into it

Where is stars posts re reward charts? Is it on FB or MN?

Right, better finish hoovering.....

KSal · 01/05/2009 10:29

I share the reluctance to give calpol.... its happened a few timein the middle of the night that Em has been fine after teething powder for approximately 1 minute, then is crying again. Calpol seems to the trick though and i hate her being in pain.

She only seems to be really upset with it at night. Is that the normal run of things? Presumably because she is both tired and in pain as opposed to 'just' in pain?

Good luck HMM, i'm sure you'll find it is loads of fun. I will never forget the face when emma first tasted something that wasn't milk (this doesn't include baby rice BTW, cos that is just like thik milk IMHO). She screwed up her face in shock... then opened her mouth wide as if to say 'gimme more!'

aubergenie · 01/05/2009 10:37

Star - at the moment I just cut it into strips and he sucks the hummous off. I think he's swallowed a bit when he's managed to make it nice and soggy, but I don't think much is going in. I bought a pack of pittas, cut them in half and froze them like that. Then I can just take half a one out at a time and pop it in the toaster to thaw it out.

jenwa · 01/05/2009 11:29

ksal often teething pain worse or mouth ulcers (csws prob understands that) at night as you dont get as mouth salivia in your mouth to moisten it so its dry and achy. And day time distractions do help and eating certain foods (chewing on the gums) can be a sort of relief.

having some difficulties getting some food down DD2, she seems to like her sweet things more than her meals , have given her rice cakes etc for snacks but she seems to choke as they are dry, she has just had some cheese which she appears to like but then half of it was in her hair and neck!

aubergenie I have some tortilla wraps, do you think putting humous in there would be ok for DD2? (cutting into strips too?) It is a battle when you are not sure how much is actaully going in!

aubergenie · 01/05/2009 11:37

I reckon that might work Jenwa. I'm also going to buy philadelphia cheese today and try that on cucumber, as he seems to love the coolness of it on his gums.

I've been experimenting with shapes that ds can pick up and it's trial and error. I made him mini buckwheat pancakes (round) one day and he just flapped them around as it was much more fun than eating them! The next day I cut them up into strips and he loved them.

jenwa · 01/05/2009 11:45

Yes long and thin is the way forward
Liking the sound of philadelphia on cucumber, I actaully have some although it had garlic in it! May attempt that later too
she has left over cottage pie today, it was so yummy, I made it yesterday, was worried as made it and added one of those seasing packets to it )Schwartz I think) then was not sure if I should have but I never add salt to anything really when I cook so sure its ok! I only put salt on chip shop chips

knickers0nmahead · 01/05/2009 11:56

You missed me from the stats

ronshar · 01/05/2009 12:07

William has just had cottage pie to. He loved it.

Yipee CSWS. I bet you were awake all night waiting though.

Teeth are a nightmare, W has his upper eye teeth comming through. Ouch. A bit odd like his big sister, she walked around like an extra from Buffy for ages.

Knicker where have you been?

HMM. Are you having fun yet????

star6 · 01/05/2009 13:05

jenwa - haven't posted about reward charts as of yet. I'm busy with a baby and a class of students, you know
I will do that very soon!

knickers0nmahead · 01/05/2009 13:31

Ronshar, i keep forgetting about this thread ds hasnt any teeth yet, nor showing signs of any to come for a while. dd had four at 6months! just started weaning too. with dd she was on purees for four weeks then we went onto blw so going to do the same with ds. hope everyone is ok. anyone expecting again yet?

Honeymoonmummy · 01/05/2009 13:34

Hi all. I've not caught up yet, but I've had 3 needles in my ear this morning and Poppy's just had some baby rice

Honeymoonmummy · 01/05/2009 13:50

She's just vomited up her baby rice..and the gaviscon

star6 · 01/05/2009 13:50

And how was the rice, HMM?

star6 · 01/05/2009 13:50
