A bit late but HMM yes that is the one. Fantastic. Seeing as you will only be pureeing for a few weeks/months, you can use it for all kinds of things. Cake mixing, bread crumbs, I grated carrot tonight for shepards pie.

MM dont worry too much about DS. He is at the age where he is starting to try and assert himself. Is he worse when DH is away? I dont know much about boys but there is the whole testosterone stuff and he might be trying to be the man of the house!dfr nbjjjjjjjjjjb m ,

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/04/2009 21:30

Oh yes, catflap story a classic!

We had stirfry for lunch rachie. Then lamb shanks for dinner. My father has apparently never had a lamb shank before , but reckons it could now be his favourite cut of meat!

You OK Ronshar? Did you just drop off at the end of your post?

Marthasmama · 30/04/2009 21:36

Hmm - ???? Are you implying that my DH has been massaging CSWS? DH and I went to school together and went out when we were 14 for about a month. We lost touch after 6th form and re-met in a pub randomly. We found out that we had been getting the same train in to London for about a year and worked five minutes from each other.

Rachie - Do you know what, I think I might.

CSWS - I really want a facial. I always find them more relaxing than a massage. I get tense about people feeling my lard!

Pistachio - It never fails to amaze me the difference some decent sleep makes!

Marthasmama · 30/04/2009 21:37

I took so long to write that post when I finally posted it I got really confused as there were so many more messages!!!

RachieW · 30/04/2009 21:43

Yay for Annabel Karmel HMM, I'm the kind of person that likes a plan to stick to and hers are very easy to follow!

On my baby rice box, think it's cow & gate, it says 1 spoon of rice to 10 spoons of milk. I did this first time and it was really runny so you may want to put 2 spoons of rice otherwise it's just milk with a few bits in it. I'd make more than you think you need in case Poppy really takes to it. When I first fed Jack I defrosted one ice cube of apple puree and he scoffed the lot when I was expecting to just get him to have 1 or 2 spoons worth!

CSWS- Have to say I love lamb shank but have only had it at my friends . Am a meat eater but not a confident meat cooker- much prefer making pastas etc.

Marthasmama · 30/04/2009 21:44

Ronshar - He's usually better when it's just me but tonight he did give M and I a hug and say 'Ahhh, my girls' , just like his daddy does. He has been adorable tonight. I have heard many terrible tales of older brothers this afternoon at school, including the older brother that smashed a toy into his 12month old baby sisters face because he wanted to play with it. DS wasn't really that bad was he?!

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/04/2009 21:46

Oh rachie you must try cooking it yourself. For the simplest version, brown it off a bit, then add some stock to cover it and a spoonful of mint sauce, and bung in the oven fairly low (about 160) for 3 hours (more won't hurt). Should just fall off the bone beautifully .

OOO a massage CSWS, I bet you enjoyed every minute.

HMM, baby rice is very bland so be prepared for P to spit it back at you. It should say on the packet how to make it up. The packets usually tell you what the minimum amount you can make is. Keep it light and happy and if P isnt interested stop and try again later on in the day after some milk. Good luck, you will be great.

Brain is mush have forgotten everything else I have read.

Great news for the weight gains this week.

ronshar · 30/04/2009 21:49

No HMM, the cat jumped onto the laptop and then got booted out the front door by DH as she was being sick! Nice. I shall be clearing up in a mo.

My brother makes Lamb Shanks with star anise. I don't like lamb but I like that! My brother is a bit of a food tart!

RachieW · 30/04/2009 21:59

Ooh CSWS, I'll give it a try- you make it sound very easy.

ronshar · 30/04/2009 22:10

I love Lamb shanks.
My DH is a food tart. He loves cooking and we have every cook book imaginable in the house. I on the other hand struggle to make shepards pie. (mash was really sloppy tonight).
I have just bought Delias How to cook all in one book. Not opened it yet

Honeymoonmummy · 30/04/2009 22:10

Is it that bad? I have banana porridge too, should I try that instead?

ronshar · 30/04/2009 22:11

Im off to bed night ladies.

ronshar · 30/04/2009 22:14

Back to say, try it but dont worry if she doesnt like it. It will be ok.
Let us know tomorrow how you get on.

Marthasmama · 30/04/2009 22:17

Nighty night ronshar.

Honeymoonmummy · 30/04/2009 22:20

Night all!

RachieW · 30/04/2009 22:24

HMM- I'd start with baby rice if that's what you'd planned. I think AK has different ideas in two books, in one my friend has it says start with baby rice, in mine it says apple puree. The baby rice will be bland but sweet because you've mixed it with milk. I think in the early days it's all about getting them used to new textures and not just tastes

CantSleepWontSleep · 01/05/2009 07:03

happy weaning day poppy!

Another better night here. A feed just before I went to bed at 11, and another at 3, then awake about 6.20 or 6.30 .

star6 · 01/05/2009 08:35

Hooray csws!!
Have fun with the rice, HMM... Q really liked eating so I gave him much more than it suggested. And it's OK It's ok to give her a bit of fruit at first, too! Once you get started, it's hard to stop giving them new things to try ... just no chunks

Marthasmama · 01/05/2009 08:53

Nice one CSWS. M was really tired last night so was asleep at 7. She woke up for a feed at 11 but stayed awake until about 1, then went back down until 4.45, which was apparently the start of the day. Luckily (for me) dh was home last night so he took her this morning and I have only juse risen from my pit. Ah, lovely. I'm still knackered though. M was a little bit scared of her daddy this morning which was worrying as I don't want to be the only adult she'll be with.

Happy weaning Day Poppy. Less vomit from now on please.

aubergenie · 01/05/2009 09:09

Happy weaning day Poppy! I feel quite excited on your behalf HMM.

Great news about the sleep CSWS.

Ds still seems to be struggling with his teeth. Dp slept on the sofa last night but said he heard ds loads in the night. He (ds, not dp) lies there with his eyes shut but is moaning really loudly for ages. It's been going on for weeks now, with the (very) occasional decent night in between. I'm not sure what, if anything, I can do.

Has anyone tried those amber teething necklaces? Someone I know used one with her ds and he had no trouble with his teeth, but I suppose he could just have been lucky.

I'm supposed to be going to Grand Designs Live today. I just know I'm going to come back and want to rip everything out of our place and start again.

CantSleepWontSleep · 01/05/2009 09:30

Presume you've tried bonjela/anbesol or calpol/nurofen aubergenie?
I actually ordered an amber necklace yesterday! But they aren't really supposed to sleep in them, so it won't help when it's most needed!
