I'm looking at this one good review on Which but it's not got many other bits with it, just a measuring beaker. Will this do? What do I mix stuff IN?? Just a plastic bowl? Sorry to highjack mid conv, I'm stressing!!!

pepperrabbit · 30/04/2009 12:31

We've already been to the doctors today for DS2 and his galloping undulating fever. Tis nothing apparently (of course). He's been frighteningly hot on and off since monday and on paracetamol and ibuprofen, got quite droopy at one point and I was worried. Doc was very nice and did a thorough check but in the end, it's nothing
DS1 actually walked into the edge of the school gate this morning while holding my hand and screamed the place down, so he's got a massive bruise down his forehead .
DD is fine! (touch wood).
DS1 spends his time "trying to make her laugh" and this too involves shouting in her face a sort of wobbling her tummy. Sometimes she thinks he's hilarious, other times she's just plain terrified - so that sound normal from others experiences.

pepperrabbit · 30/04/2009 12:33

HMM that looks perfect. I just wanted one that did the basics and was easy to wash - just check the beaker bit can go in the dishwasher (if you have one and are dishwasher reliant like me!)

Honeymoonmummy · 30/04/2009 12:34

Highjack?!? I mean hijack

Honeymoonmummy · 30/04/2009 12:37

Thanks Pepper. I don't have a dishwasher so that's OK. Sorry to hear about DS2's temp and DS1's head!

HMM i just use a regular blender... am I missing something? anyone? I thought you just hit "puree". I bought it at John Lewis. I was thinking of hitting "chop" or one of hte other buttons when I can bear the thought of trying chunks again...

Sorry... I need to do a little whinge (not sure if that's how you spell it... I'm american and say "whine"). but I'm Soooooooooooooooo tired!!!!!! Q slept propped up on a (feather) pillow last night! He was so comfortable there, but kept tossing his head side to side b/c of nose being blocked. I just almost fell asleep during a meeting

Can babies breathe through their mouths now? I think he can. I know he couldn't before...

I'm rearranging my lessons for the afternoon so that kids can be a bit more independant and less needy for me so I can save as much energy as possible for Q

star6 · 30/04/2009 12:55

yummy myjob. Ice lollies is a terrific idea!! best one I can think of

MM have you always used a reward chart with ds? not judging (like myjob ), just asking.

star6 · 30/04/2009 12:58

pepper - Q had a fever for over a week and they kept telling me it was nothing. Scary though, isn't it?

csws - how's the sleep going... I can't keep my eyes open on a screen long enough to read back past page 10... I know, pathetic! I don't know how you have gotten this far with so little sleep! I had little to none at the start then about 3 months of lovely beautiful nights and now we're back to horrible wakeful restless nights!

Star - What age do you teach? My friend says she is sometimes really pleased she teaches 10 year olds as when she a hangover she can just get them to do some silent reading for 30 mins! Not so easy if you're teaching the baby class! I think the tiredness is worse when you've been used to getting more sleep. I always feel worse on a Monday morning after having a lie in on Sunday morning. zxz Is his nose blocked or snotty? If it is snotty then the snot sucker thingy does work a treat. I used it on M when she had a terrible cold and although she hated it, it worked a treat. It doesn't work on crusty solid blockages.

Pepper - DH even apologised for the florist van not being for me . I have trained him well haven't I?! And I am surprised I haven't done that with ds, we even have a old redundant catflap!

Hmm - Hand blenders are excellent as you don't really need to worry abotu blending in anything. You can just use it to blend in the sausepan or bowl or you can use the little pot that coems with it. I love my hand blender!

Marthasmama · 30/04/2009 13:10

Star - I was wondering whether he is too old to have a sticker chart. We tried it in the past but that boy is too cunning. He worked out how many times he could be naughty and still get a treat. Then everytime he was naughty he would say 'It's ok, I'll still get my present. I can be naughty x more times.' He was 3.5 at the time. He's such a smart arse!

Myjob - Awwww, you weren't judging. You were absolutely spot on.

Just noticed M's contribution zxz. Wonder what she was trying to say...

Marthasmama · 30/04/2009 13:11

Oh dear, my spelling's terrible today.

MM I teach 5-7 year olds right now (we call it "first grade" - american system here). No can't leave them to their own devices with anything for 30 minutes

I have a lot of experience with star charts as a teacher, in training for counseling and in childcare... but not with my own child (obviously as he's only 7 months ). But I have a lot of opinions about them... which I will not go into on this forum

Marthasmama · 30/04/2009 13:26

Star - I think he is too manipulative to have a reward chart, Plus I don't really want him learning that the only reason to be 'good' is to get a reward. Good behaviour should be it's own reward Which is why I'm not sure about continuing to reward ds for his spellings. He loves getting 10/10 every (well nearly) time. He was gutted when he got one wrong, he was in tears. So does he really need a treat as well?

Oh and am I a bitch? A friend has recently had a gorgeous baby boy and was commenting on how she loves the smell of Sudocream. I commented too and then one of her friends commented that her baby girl often did 5 'ding-dongs' a day and her botty got really sore. Ding-dongs???? WTF?! So I put 'Ding-dongs? I thought they were American biscuits.' I hate that cutsie stuff. They're shits or turds or poos, not f*ing ding-dongs!

pepperrabbit · 30/04/2009 13:38

I don't even like the word "botty"
Reminds me of Blackadder

star6 · 30/04/2009 13:49

what's botty mean?
Sure myjob I'd be happy to do a facebook discussion on star or reward charts. I just know that I'd be attacked on MN and at this point in time I'm not up for it . Just too tired.
I could not find one of those nose suckers at boots or lloyds chemist yesterday... so I settled on saline nasal drops. They suck.

Honeymoonmummy · 30/04/2009 15:44

Ha ha MM! Ding-dongs!

Star, you can say whine, we'll translate Botty is bum.

Just taken Poppy swimming, first dunking lesson, took her ages to start breathing again, I was ding-donging myself Teacher reckons just cos she has strong gag reflex.

I might start a FB thread on food ideas for 6 month olds to give me some ideas if that's ok?

Honeymoonmummy · 30/04/2009 15:55

Thread started. I've just said to specify age so everyone can use ideas for different ages.

heather1980 · 30/04/2009 15:59

i've never used reward charts either, i can't see the point tbh, dd id quite well behaved, she has her moments but on the whole is not really any bother.

i too hate baby talk, my mil does it and i have to correct her what's the point of teaching them baby talk and then teaching them to speak properly?

i had to laugh earlier, i took dd to ballet and left alex at home with dh, he changed his nappy and put it on all wrong, it was a bumhugger and it has the pattern on the inside, he put it on with the pattern facing out and didn't put a wrap on and then wondered why alex was all wet. daft bugger!

Jojay · 30/04/2009 16:29

Yep, i can't stand baby talk either, though I love the silly things they come out with when they can't pronounce something.

My favourite from DS1 is 'Loc-lat bic-bic'LOL

Also, bizzarely, swimming, gravy, and Rosie (a friend) all sound scarily like 'wee wee'

Bless him

Both kids in bed atm - joy!!

I think I may go in a more BLW direction with Ed. I tried him with carrot puree at breakfast time ( a bit random i know) nad he didn't like it at all, crying etc, but he spent ages sucking on a roast carrot at lunchtime so maybe that says it all. Saying that he quite liked his apple and pear with baby rice last night, so maybe I'll stick to a porridge / rice puree type meal in the evenings to fill him up before bed

Honeymoonmummy · 30/04/2009 16:48
