Hmm - you need to get the ones without sulpher in. Babies can't handle sulphur, but I can't find why now. I just know that it's bad for them in some way. You definately need the un-sulphured ones which are brown. PITA I know, I had to walk into town, all the way down to the health food shop which is about two miles! Tesco do a small pack of brown ones though. While I was looking I found this. How skinny is that baby? Healthy my arse! Well probably healthier than my arse to be honest .

M is upstairs wailing as I can't get her to settle and I have given up for the moment. SHe just wants to sleep with me and I am being firm. She will go back i her cot!

Ronshar - No suprise that they can hold out for longer than us. Funnily enough, 7 days is how long it took my friend to finally get her dd to take a bottle!

Ho hum, suppose I better get that cheeky M off to sleep.

RachieW · 29/04/2009 23:13

Hi all- just wanted to say a quick hello. Had my brother over for dinner so not had anytime to get on mn.

Sorry to hear that there are a lot of bad days around. Ds was very grumpy this afternoon, he keeps making this moaning/whinging noise "mnnerrr" that I'm quite ashamed already, only 6 months down the line, goes right through me. Somedays I just feel he is a bit too much which is terible because he is actually very good natured. Anyway about 7.30 he did a huge pooh so I've attributed "mnnerrr" to "I've got tummy ache".

Anyway I guess what I'm trying to say is that many days I find it hard and loose patience with just one dc. Plus he's only 6 months so I can't even claim to have as much collective tiredness as most of you. I've realised that being a mum is the hardest job I'll ever do (and the most lovely) and that we are all doing our very best so shouldn't beat ourselves up when we have bad days.

Apologies that is a bit pink and fluffy- had wine with dinner

Marthasmama · 29/04/2009 23:14

Oh and I have a Dualit hand blender and it is mega powerful. So powerful in fact that when I used it to make pancake mix, most of it ended up on the me, the floor, the walls, the window and DH. Bloody thing. It's gone quiet upstairs......

ronshar · 29/04/2009 23:15

Amen to that Rachie.

I forgot to say welcome to Gruffalomummy.

KSal · 30/04/2009 07:52

RachieW... I think all babies/children have their own unique whining sound that goes straight through their mother!

Marthasmama · 30/04/2009 07:59

I have found some carpet moth babies. And they are on my £1K made to measure blinds! And the vacuum is in the repair shop until DH gets home.

KSal and Rachie - I have read on here that some mums vomit when their baby crys as the physical reaction to it is so strong! I get really sressed when M cries so I'd never be able to do CC.

DO you think flights from USA are going to be ground because of this blasted flu? DH's sis is meant to be flying back in three weeks for a visit. I have a feeling that she won't be.

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/04/2009 09:19

Look, no middle of the night posts from me! We were up twice, but just for about half an hour each time, which is a BIG improvement, and then up for the day at 6:20. Think I got nearly 6 hours' sleep, which is v good for me. (still knackered though!)

Ekka · 30/04/2009 09:30

CSWS - great news on the sleep, but I usually find that the first night I get a decent sleep I'm more tired the next day - wierd.... Lets hope this is the start of better sleeping.

HMM, you need to get the brown dried apricots, either in the whole foods/health foods section of the supermarket or a health food shop. I cut them up and put them in a pan & stew them for 5-10 mins.

I can sympathise on the grumpy days. We had one yesterday & I shouted at dd at bedtime. Worse, I shouted at her this morning for messing around with ds' steroid creams and she immediately came running up saying 'sorry mummy, sorry'. I've obviously traumatised the poor little soul .

Matthew's blood tests went ok, though they had to try both hands before they found a vein, but he was easily distracted by a toy with flashing lights. The only thing we found was that when he caught sight of the nurse who was doing the job, his bottom lip trembled and he started to cry! Hopefully we'll get the results next time we see the paediatrician.....

Marthasmama · 30/04/2009 09:33

Ooooo CSWS... me too! I had 6 hours in total as well. M seems a bit undre the weather today though. A non-specific slightly raised temperature, grizzly, grumpy sort of thing.

Honeymoonmummy · 30/04/2009 09:42

Congrats on the sleep CSWS/ MM.

Thanks all re the apricots, is it better to get fresh ones or is that a stupid question?? I've never bought apricots before!!

I'm gonna get a Braun too Ronshar, thanks.

Ekka, I'm sorry your DS had to go through that.

Honeymoonmummy · 30/04/2009 09:49

Is it this one Ronshar? Currys, Comet and Argos don't do Braun hand blenders

Marthasmama · 30/04/2009 09:52

Ekka - Aw poor M. I'm a big baby about blood tests, sounds like he was braver than me. Didn't Ronshar's W have some blood tests and didn't even flinch? Such brave little lads. I know that my 6 year old ds would scream the place down if someone went near him with a needle!

Hmm - fresh worked for CSWS's D but I think the dried ones are more effective at clearing them out as they have much more sugar in them.

Honeymoonmummy · 30/04/2009 10:08

I might have to get a kenwood. There's not gonna be that much difference is there.

Marthasmama · 30/04/2009 10:12

No, I think that a blender is a blender to be honest. I had a Kenwood for Ollie and it only died a few months ago. I have this because it goes with my kettle and toaster!

aubergenie · 30/04/2009 10:20

Morning ladies! It seems I paid for yesterday's good sleep with a rubbish one last night. Poor S's teeth are still bothering him, but nothing's through yet. Shouldn't complain though, as he was a star yesterday - I took him into central London to meet some friends for lunch and he was very happy sitting in his chair sucking on some pizza crusts.

Sorry to hear about problems with sibling rivalry and grumpy mums.

Good news on sleep MM and CSWS - let's hope this is the start of a new pattern!

I've got lots of mums and babies coming over this afternoon so I've been busy baking. I've made a chocolate cake and a coffee cake. Trouble is, I'm desperate to eat them now.

aubergenie · 30/04/2009 11:05

I meant to say before, thanks for the breakfast suggestions. Ds had some buckwheat pancakes and scrambled egg this morning, and they were a big hit.

Also, MM - We're very excited about the return of FOTC in this house!

Myjob - It's something to do with asthma. It can either cause an attack if they have asthema or possibly trigger asthma. I think you'd have to be feeding her loads of the stuff for it to be a problem. Didn't mean to scare you. I am totally different with M too. I feel guilty as I am so much calmer with my baby girl and we have more fun as a result. Poor ds . He was an angel this morning btw!

Myjob - Don't make me feel guilty! The worst bit is that the sticker book was a special edition thing and you can't buy it anymore. I feel a bit sick now. Poor ds. I do wonder if we shoudl keep rewarding him for his spelling tests, after all, he is only doing what is expected of him. In a year of spelling tests he has only ever got one wrong.

OK, my computer died right after my last post (about 100 ago!!!!) and now I'm all behind... short posts are order of the day.

pepperrabbit · 30/04/2009 12:24

pistachio - I'm sorry to hear you're having such a rough time. I think they can just be so relentlessly demanding that it gets overwhelming. I have once or twice locked DS1 out in the back passage when I just couldn't take it anymore and then found myself lying on the kitchen floor shouting at him through the catflap Never seen that recommended in a parenting book.

pepperrabbit · 30/04/2009 12:26

MM - I'm still laughing at your being cross with DH for not sending you flowers when you saw the interflora van!
myjob - I'm sure these things have to be taken in large continuous quantities to be harmful? I'm sure Naomi will be fine.

Marthasmama · 30/04/2009 12:26

don't you feel bad Myjob! I only feel bad because you're right! Never feel bad about being right. I fished the gogos out of the bin as they were only in the living room bin so nothing yucky in there. I feel so bad beause he used to get really excited about putting stickers in his book. I might have to go out this afternoon before collecting him from school and see if I can get something similar.
