Oh man I am so stuffed!!! After a long whiney walk around Southampton Common (massive greenspace in the middle of the city) we went to a country pub for lunch and pigged out to celebrate DS1's dairy-free 3months being up.

I told DH that when I realised DS1 was probably autistic (he was 2) I had to grieve for the fantasy normal boy he never was. But after just 8m of pre-school his behaviour, communication and social skills have improved so much that I feel like I've got that fantasy son after all. Allbeit a scarily bright, kooky one with no volume control. Then DH pointed out that we have two fantasy little boys and then we both had to try not to cry there and then in the pub!

Have a nice day everyone!

LoveBuckets · 09/05/2009 15:28

That's what I mean, we'd all love a long shower but when you're covered in vomit and can't even get a 2minute one it's even worse!

I'm hiding from my HV at the mo, keeps chasing me to do Squirt's 8m checkup but she's so slooooow and boring and I know he's fine. I don't legally have to do one do I? I know he's fine.

ds has took a while to settle tonight. Dh is settling dd who was also disturbed due to ds crying. Think both overtired from swim party was ok but dd clung to me like a limpit for first half hour.I have given up on telling dh how I put her to bed so I have said you put her to bed and sit with her if you want and when I put her to bed i will do it my way. I am sure she will learn the difference.
[wrapped round daddys finger emoticon]
hope you have all had a good day and fingers crossed on the sleep front.

dizzydixies · 09/05/2009 20:33

AARRGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH 3pm 3 fecking pm before they bothered to turn up today [fume][ggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr] and have since waited on them hand and food - fed them the lunch I'd made for them that they didn't want along with a lasagne made from scratch and not a fecking word of thanks from FIL AARRRRGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

right am off to play nice, sorry to rant but desperately needed an outlet and not sure drinking and speaking the truth is the right way forward

as you were ladies as you were

pertelote · 09/05/2009 21:56

Sheesh dizzy, that is a bit much. Not deserving your luscious cooking. Hope they are soon out of your hair.

Buckets hurrah for your two lovely boys Don't think the 8 mth check can be compulsory, we certainly haven't had one.

No1 you sound a bit better today, good. Hope tired from swimming means you get a good night whether that involves sleep or not

We are off on hols tomorrow morning, sure we're going to be cold and wet all week on the Suffolk coast but it will be nice to be out of the city and have babysitters (my parents) on hand. Hope you all have a good week, lovely long showers and peaceful nights.

Apologies for inevitable x-posting - wrote this several minutes ago then delayed posting while DH lectured me about telling 'the internet' that we were going away. I have reminded him that you are all very nice and any malevolent lurkers listening in can't actually get our address off my profile... So if anyone was planning to break in, could you water the tomatoes while you're here? Thank you so much

TwilightSurfer · 10/05/2009 01:09

PARTY AT PERTELOTE'S!!!!!! WWOOOOOHHOOOO!!!

Dizzy I've been there and you did WAY better than me. I'd have spoken. You've got better worries to be worrying over this weekend. They can just F@$% off!!!

Reese is cutting teeth this evening. Her sinuses are all a mess. She's constipated. Her grumpy level is over flowing. I've fed her. I've changed her. I've doped her. I've numbed her gums. Then I gave her to her father.

Question: Did any of you start taking violin lessons when you were 5? Have any of you started your dcs in violin lessons at 5? I'm thinking of finding a someone to give dd1 private violin lessons over the summer.

alittlebitshy · 10/05/2009 07:53

Have a good holiday pertelote and enjoy the babysitters on tap!!!

dizzy grr grr grr. I hope it imporoves even a tiny bit. Keep ranting here!

no1 glad to see you sounded a bit brighter!

We had another good night. Since ds got over his whatever it was we have had many more sleep throughs than wake ups. I like this progress. dd wa sup at 5.30 thoguh. . dh told her to read a a bit and try to get back off to sleep, but she read for 2 hours... guess who's going to be a grump later today?

oopsacoconut · 10/05/2009 09:14

Morning

Have a great holiday Pertelote and use the babysitters

Sazzles sounds like a good time was had by all.

Dizzy am for you at least it's now Sunday and they will soon be gone!

No1 I hope the Dc's slept well for you.

Morning ALBS

We hade a great day yesterday turning our empty patch of mud into a garden. Courgettes planted, loads of plants bought and planted, DD sat in her bumbo on the grass and giggled at it tickling her feet. Dh and I went out for dinner last night DD refused to go to bed and so was left awake with the IL she was still awake when we got home at 11! been awake since 6.40 too but the sun is shining and the birds are singing so it's okay.

Going to try and persuade DH that a day at the Zoo or wildlife park is needed!

alittlebitshy · 10/05/2009 09:20

ooh glad you had nice dinner out oops. We need a night out. Not sure when though .

just got a shock. Sitting here with monitor next to me, ds in his cot napping. Suddenly a plinky plonky twinkle twinkle little star came on. It was the farking v tech walker. It's in ds's room for him to fiddle with as he's not quite ready to walk with it yet (though bear in mind we got it for dd's 1st birthday I think he'll be way ahead of her) and now i know why i normally turn it off when it's bedtime!!! luckily he didn't stir. Not risking going in to turn it off as the door opening always makes him leap up and jiggle like a pupy .

Miamla · 10/05/2009 09:39

morning all

so there's a party at pertelote's is there? I've got her address if anyone needs it

sazz was thinking about you and your windows yesterday... what handles did you decide on? i;m sure you told us but it was bugging me yday! also, has your DH got a tent to go on the roof of his landie? he's uber cool if he has Glad you had a good night away

i've discovered a great babysitter... DS's jeans! they've got a zip pocket on the knee and he plays with it for ages

hmm, what else was i going to say... oh yes, pertelote hope you have a great break

dizz just keep letting off steam on here. i didn't get a single thank you all weekend from my pil so i really do sympathise. quite amusingly mil still not talking to me from about 8 weeks ago now. not quite sure what i've done as she was the rude one but hey ho

8 month check hasn't even been mentioned here so i'm guessing it can't be compulsory. Avoid avoid and avoid again. In my book mum knows best especiallly in your casee buckets TS violin? are you sure you want a violinist in the house? think very carefully! i inflicted many years of practice on my poor parents. maybe its just me but good grief i was bad!

no1 did you get some "who knows"?

oops "mumbles"? wow! as soon as DS wakes he screams!

albs hello

DS decided 6.50 the perfect time to wake up this morning so his bedtime tonight is going to be 18.50. This 12 hour things seems to really be working for the first bit. I'm only having to go up to him every hour or so to settle. he's still a pain in the wotsit after midnight but hey, small improvements are being noted

i had such a lovely day yesterday. DP was superb. He entertained DS most of the day which gave me some very productive time with my sewing machine. He also went to the garden centre to buy some bits and because they wanted to charge him 10p for a carrier bag he stole a basket! i was quite amused when he confessed that he's wanted to steal something for a long time. Apparently it was the attitude of the checout girl that gave him the idea.. she "allowed" him just this once to take the basket to the car! Not quite sure what we're going to do with a big orange basket! suspect i'll sneak it back to the shop during the week

Miamla · 10/05/2009 09:40

hee hee, sorry about overload on smilies!

alittlebitshy · 10/05/2009 09:52

that's so funny abouy dp and the basket miamla - lol at secret longing to steal something . I nearly stole some vests for ds in m and s this week. was with sil. I had hung the clothes i was going to get on handle of buggy. had to pick screaming boy up, he tugged at handle and whole buggy tipped up. sil put the stuff in buggy seat. I paid...... then she was trying some stuff on while i fed ds, and when i went to lever him back in buggy i noticed the pack of vests hiding under our coats .

Miamla · 10/05/2009 10:11

apparently he's considered stealing a cd in the past when the queue was long. He thought my reaction was hilarious... because I asked why he'd want to steal an empty box. It would seem its a while since I bought any cds! He reckons they're all in the boxes on the shelves now

albs that's scandalous!! I'm shocked!

ooh and forgot to sing DP's praises re this morning.. he gave me an hour's worth of lie in!! I feel almost human after so much sleep!

LoveBuckets · 10/05/2009 10:46

We have tooth!!! At last, and what a surprise, no redness, no more grumbling than usual, just woke up with it.

Good night last night, Kurt ate masses of this quinoa-coconut-veg-curry concoction I made. Me and DH organised the guitarfilled pigsty music room and sorted what was to go to the tip so I can finally move the laptop and printer in soon (will become our shared study). And I recorded a cracking first take vocal on another cover for him, not bad considering I can't stand the song and find it v hard to keep in my head. Who'd be a professional eh?

TS Why violin? Has she expressed an interest? Why not start with singing/ voicework/movement/stagey stuff, get her confident with her own body, she'd be able to express herself with it right away. Violin's gotta be awfully frustrating for such a little perfectionist, I know my DD would stress herself silly. When does the school start offering instrument lessons?

Dizzy Stop trying so hard! You know you're never going to get the reaction you want from your FIL so lower your expectations and your workload. He won't notice!

LOL Miamla they're all glued into cellophane so badly you need a stanley knife to open them. Much like boxes of condoms I've found, have often wondered if there is some Catholic conspiracy behind it.

alittlebitshy · 10/05/2009 14:12

Am q amused. we have ppl from church over - dh cooked bolognese Theri 2yr old ds has never had pasta before . I thought we were playing it safe with bolognese . Not sure what they'll think of dh's black forest trifle (which he's said he'll all chocolate trifle to avoid confusion lol).

Miamla · 10/05/2009 15:30
LoveBuckets · 10/05/2009 15:32

But what did the 2yr old make of the pasta?

Our neighbours are having a bbq, am trying to convince DH to run to Tesco by 4pm so we can have one too. I'm so easily-led.

alittlebitshy · 10/05/2009 16:12

mmm bbq.

2 yr old not impressed. 5 yr old didn't like the bolognese OR the trifle . dd gobbled up the lot .

TwilightSurfer · 10/05/2009 16:52

hmmm things to think over. yes, dd1 has said she'd like to learn to play the violin and the piano. we have no room for a piano (or desire for one) so the violin sounded reasonable. the plus side to the violin is i come from a family of bluegrass musicians....so my uncles could teach her to play it as a fiddle when she's older. the learning method i'm interested in is the suzuki method which prefers to starting kids at 4 or 5. i haven't spoken to the instructor yet. if it "sounds" like its going to be stressing then i won't do it. dd1 has really be awesome the past few days. i'm not sure why but we have been taking time to read no less than 5 books a day. when i start reading she's like a moth to a flame. she can't get enough.

giggle

Miamla · 10/05/2009 17:49

oh no, does that mean there's no trifle left for me to scoff?? its no good! your DH will have to make another one for me

cor! it seems there are a bunch of tea leaves on here?
(TS for your benefit..tea leaf=thief in cockney!)

Sibh · 10/05/2009 17:53

Mmm. Trifle.

The Suzuki method is about as friendly as it gets I think. My cousins did it.

i've been looking into community choirs since Buckets mentioned them last and have found one near here.

Miamla - I forgot to cheer your DS for his amazing standing skills!

sazzles could i perk you up with some lemon drizzle cake, plenty left not

oopsacoconut · 10/05/2009 18:14

ALBS - Trifle sounds good - any chance of a recipe?

Miamla - your DH's confession is very amusing - the only thing i have ever stolen was a newspaper which I draped over the buggy handle then walked out of the shop forgetting I had it. I got home and phoned and said I would pop in and pay for it - the girl on the phone said don't bother as they refer all 'thefts' to the police regardless of how small or innocent

TS - a friend's little girl plays the violin and learned with the Suzuki method now at 10 she is a very accomplished player and loves her instrument.

DD back to almost normal just snotty. Proper eating happening and less snuffly clingyness.

Who'd I miss?
