Daisy. It sounds like you need a chiropractor/osteopath

HellHathNoFury · 28/04/2009 21:09

SB600 and SB800 both use AA's btw.

But, up to you which way you want to go!

HellHathNoFury · 28/04/2009 21:11

I won't talk camera any more

Speaking of which I did a review of a camera a couple of weeks ago which was published, Yay.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 28/04/2009 21:15

Oh I am definitely getting an external flash. And I do want a Nikon one. And I am almost certainly getting the SB600. But with the D50 it won't work remotely. It would with the D70 though. DH has suggested that if I do want a remote flash then I might pick up a 2nd hand D70 for the same price or less than a new SU800 control unit. But I am thinking I may well just stick with an on camera external flash, as then all I have to worry about is what I've got in my hands and not what I've got stuck over there.

Now just a tripod to think about... Mine is v cheap and cheerful and a bit floppy

LittleMissNorty · 28/04/2009 21:24

Oh poor you Daisy....I'm still seeing my osteopath....7 visits I've had now....and at £35 a go, its getting rather expensive

LackaDAISYcal · 28/04/2009 21:26

I should be covered on DH's BUPA Norty. I'm definately going to get my money's worth as I need a dermatology referral as well.

DH is thinking it's time to trade me in for a younger model

OP posts:
LittleMissNorty · 28/04/2009 21:34

That's good. Still got a BB connection then?

Bit worried about DHs job here....there have been some redundancies in the company and as he's worked there under a year....he would be very cheap to let go . He has been told "no plans" but......

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 28/04/2009 21:35

Fingers crossed Norty.

And hope you get sorted soon Daisy

TheNatty · 28/04/2009 21:54

daisy, backs are a pain.
i got my bump support through in the post finally and its taken some of the pressure of the small of my back. enough to get on anyway so thats good for me.

lovely dress fairy. saw some wide fitting shoes in clarks today that im sure were a simlar colour. have youi got a local one u could check?

i am not coming anywhere near the computer tomorrow as i have a clean washing pile about three times the size of me to sort out
i seem to be able to keep the dirty washing pile down now i can tumble it dry, however i now need a machine to put it away into drawers...

Rialentless · 28/04/2009 21:59

norty, hope it turns out OK.

love that dress fairy

for your back daisy. I live in fear...

I know nothing of cameras/flashes.

I do know about giant piles of laundry, dirty or otherwise.

Parents Eve was pretty positive. We were allocated 5 mins with each teacher, with 5 mins between to get to the next appointment. We started off with the Head and 45 mins later had to start catching up with our list. Hopefully we'll get results this time though (DH being a governor has certainly had it's benefits tonight). Dyslexia seems to be a complete no (his spelling mistakes are not typical apparently), but the head mentioned dyspraxia. But at last, finally, we have got people to agree that even without a "label" there is certainly a problem that needs addressing. They are going to "mentor" him too to help with the bullying/anxiety.
I didn't cry either (it helps when you can pick and choose which teachers you see) though I think DH had tears in his eyes at one point

LackaDAISYcal · 28/04/2009 22:23

good news on the parent's night Ria, and positive that they recognise your concerns and are dealing with it. Now, what about the cricket team......I'm wondering if I'll be able to go and see him at Headingly in a few years

Norty for DH's job. I hope things are OK. Have you got any salary/payment protection insurance?

OP posts:
Rialentless · 28/04/2009 22:27

oh, he got picked for the team (had forgotten), I think there's only 10 of them go to training though, so maybe don't book your tickets yet. But he did get picked, and that's bloody brilliant. He wants me and his grandad to go and watch. It'll be excellent for his confidence if he is half-way decent (apparently all his problems at school are down to anxiety/confidence)

LackaDAISYcal · 28/04/2009 22:43

That's great Ria. Well done DS1 and move over Freddie Flintoff

Rialentless · 28/04/2009 23:10

mm, just watching Fever Pitch. Colin Firth is my favourite teacher since Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe

night all.

Rialentless · 29/04/2009 00:03

HOLLY! here thought of you...

LittleMissNorty · 29/04/2009 08:18

Morning

Glad DS1s parents evening went well Ria and well done for cricket team

Daisy, we do have unemployment insurance so mortgage is covered for a year in the event, and no debts so we are very lucky really. We just need to prepare and also need to economise a bit lot on shopping, clothes, bills etc. Think we will do this anyway, regardless of what happens....it may not.....just don't know....but the uncertainty is unsettling enough. I can always go back to work early as well.....but I think the prospect of looking after 2 kids all day on his tod will focus the mind . Anyway, we cross that bridge when it happens....just need to get all my worries out somewhere and preferably not onto DH. We always knew changing jobs in the middle of a downturn was a risk, but I don't think we anticipated how bad things would get. Oh well, luckily he works in an industry that can support contract work etc

Hope you get your referrals quickly....I still haven't even been referred for my gall bladder yet! Working for the NHS gets you no favours at all!

Right, osteopath today so off to find some half decent underwear

HellHathNoFury · 29/04/2009 08:56

Fingers crossed Norty.

DH is in a similar situation, he changed jobs in November, but we are not worried yet.

I am pretty safe I think.

Jamy a good tripod is def a good long term investment but I think you'll find you might as well save your money for now and use the flimsy one for the wedding. If I had to choose a good flash unit vs tripod for wedding photography, it would be the flash!

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 29/04/2009 09:17

Morning all.

Thinking of you Norty - fingers crossed. Sounds like you are doing the right things by thinking ahead just in case, but hope it doesn't come to anything.

And yay! for Ria's double whammy of parents evening and cricket

Fury - a flash is definitely on the cards and a tripod too I get SO pissed off whenever I try to use my current tripod that it puts me off trying to use it now, which is a shame. (It was a present from ILs some years ago so can't complain really but it is a cheap & cheerful model.) So I'm really pleased to have an excuse to get a new one

Jamlet still napping I have had a mad tidy up in kitchen and dining room but am putting off doing any actual cleaning

Rialentless · 29/04/2009 09:29

sodding panic attack this morning. can't decide whether to cry or scream or throw up. Presumably because I'm expecting a call from DS1s headteacher and DH is away until tomorrow

Arse.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 29/04/2009 09:31

Hugs Ria!
Now sit down and have some deep breaths and a glass of water (too early to recommend wine I'm afraid ). Remember, the headteacher is only another person, they are not magical. And last night went really well so I'm sure it'll be fine.

Rialentless · 29/04/2009 09:37

thanks jammy. it's very silly.
I know it will be OK because at least we're all singing from the same hymnsheet now, and all the teachers we saw said he isn't a naughty child (finally), it just feels like a big thing. And DH is much better at coping with school stuff than me (and my phone phbia is not too good ATM). The current plan is that DS is going to have to go right back to the beginning of learning to form his letters etc

I am off to see my mum to beg a cup of tea, hopefully I will hold it together while I'm there.

Rialentless · 29/04/2009 09:39

just heard this on the radio (apologies if it's old, am a bit out of touch). it made me want to cry

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 29/04/2009 09:45

Like you said you are now all singing from the same hymnsheet. You all want the best for DS, and everyone agrees that it's not him being naughty. So difficult as it may feel at the moment, I reckon you've come through the worst and that things will get MUCH better from now on You can get through this Ria!

LackaDAISYcal · 29/04/2009 09:59

ria, I hope you are OK. It all sounded really positive from last night. Perhaps you can ask the head for a face to face meeting with DH present rather than having to do it on the phone?

I am flying solo!!! DH is away on business for tonight only. I'm dreading bedtime as DH normally sorts the big two out whilst I feed bumble. Not sure how the logistics of it will work

At least the mortgage is one thing off your mind Norty. We neeed to economise as well as we are spending about £120 a WEEK on food/clothes/nappies at the minute and that isn't being particularly extravagant. Not sustainable really, but not sure how to get it down as a lot of the stuff we buy is because it's gluten free. You just don't get economy range gluten free foods
