Docket, Alfie is a bit like babydocket then, he has always preferred a brown latex teat on a dummy - when he actually accepts a dummy.
Is the bottle still working??

docket · 15/05/2005 15:21

grrrr, no, he isn't having any of it at the moment, refusal today and yesterday. but like i said before at least i know now he CAN do it (but only if he wants to it seems!)

beansprout · 15/05/2005 15:25

Good luck (as always) with the bottle Docket.
Jbadgirl - good luck with the neurologist - let us know how it goes?

Bean ate some mush today - rejoice! Fa la la la la la la!! He had some pureed pear - opened his mouth for it, didn't spit it out and swallowed it!!! My baby is finally ready for food!!

Maisiemog · 15/05/2005 15:41

Yay babybean!!!! Loving mummy's lovely food!!
Docket Pog is a bit like babydocket with the bottle, he tkes it best from my mum??? Keep trying, you're the mummy!!!

Have come to the conclusion that my son is a little fickle! dp says he takes after me .

I'm getting confused about how much milk ds should be having now he is on 3 meals a day. Are you guys reducing the amount of feeds now? And do you give milk separately to solids? Questions, questions..!

Maisiemog · 15/05/2005 17:47

I've been giving Pog his normal milk feed then giving him a solid feed after a short interval. He really only has milk as a drink, so I don't want to dehydrate him.
It is quite fiddly these extra meals - I have to really try to remember the milk feed sometimes because the solid feeds take so long. I am offering Pog the boob after meals, which he seems to want. I read they need extra liquid to help digestion, so I would say make sure he has his milk before solids then a drink after.
I think babycentre said that in addition to meals the baby should still be drinking about 600 mls of milk a day - which is about four and a half little bottles. As always, it's more tricky with breastfeeding, to know how much they are getting (the perennial complaint with breast feeding )
I try to offer Pog the boob every hour just in case, he never refuses, but will just stay on for a short time if he's not that bothered.
Dp told me that if you feel the fontanelle and it feels depressed, it's a symptom of dehydration, so I suppose you can check it that way. I now keep patting Pog on the head to make sure he's ok
It is definately more tricky with bottles, because you don't want to leave them sitting about. Maybe if you make up some juice in a bottle and keep that handy if you are on bottles. Juice might not go off so fast?

biglips · 15/05/2005 20:31

ive made it today with feeding baba with scrambled egg ...

baba had never spitted out foods as always swallowed it but she just refusing to open her mouth, even if DP helped me to open her mouth, she eat her foods.. strange!!!

Hi all, hope everyone had a good weekend - yesterday we took ds to Marwell, and although we had a great day out with our mates, am sure that he was wondering why we were pointing and getting so excited, cos he only appeared to be interested in the fences rather than the animals, but at least he was getting some fresh air!

As for the orange hipp scariness, today was really sunny here, and I stuck all the stained clothes out in the sun, and tada, the stains have vanished, honest!!

We're on 3 solid meals a day now, but ds is still having 5 8-9oz bottles a day, and finishing most of them .... I think he's just a bit of a pig though! Still following the 91% line for weight, so guess that's why! And we've definitely got 2 teeth coming through at the bottom now, not long to go!

Ds babbling contentedly, but his favourite is definitely dadadadada, and more often than not, is now just saying dad as one word rather than a stream of babble ... am yet to get even an "m" out of him !

Maisiemog · 15/05/2005 22:35

Is Marwell a zoo? We are thinking about going to Edinburgh zoo tomorrow if it stays nice. Although I'm not sure Pog will be impressed?
Pog is totally ignoring his developmental benchmarks. He's supposed to say da ma ga in an endless stream by now, but I have no idea what he's saying - just a load of rubbish, mainly 'eggoo' and what sounds like 'hiya'.
I have noticed his waist is smaller at the moment, when I fasten his nappy. Has anyone else noticed their baby getting fatter and thinner?
I am wondering if he is growing longer at the moment - he does seem to be fitting clothes lengthwise that he didn't fit before.
Or he's on a diet. Maybe he caught sight of his nappy in the mirror and thought 'Ohno! My bum's enormous. I must lose some weight so I can fit into my swimming nappy for the beach'

hotmama · 16/05/2005 08:55

Cazzybabs - we obviously have good taste in names, dd is Grace Isabel - would be bizarre if your dd has the same middle name.

Went to The Baby Show at the NEC on Friday - got some good bargains and met Jo Frost aka Supernanny.

Seemed to have cracked the weaning but dd still isn't bothered about drinking water. DD has 3 bottles a day plus a yogurt and also has additional milk at breakfast - so she must be on at least 25 ozs a day - so I am happy that she has at least the 20ozs that are recommended.

Had a larf yesterday, defrosted Vegetable Medley for dd's tea and also defrosted some parsnip to bump up the portion - it was only when I added the parsnip that I read the bag - Apple and Cinnamon - well it went down well!

DD is now just over the 91st line for weight and her tum does seem to be getting slimmer must be all the wiggling when sitting. DD's length has never been measured even at birth, the hossy just did weight and head circumference.

Still no teeth coming through, one of my antenatal friends ds who is 2 weeks older, got his bottom teeth at 3 months and has started getting his top teeth - isn't it bizarre the differences in how baba's develop?

Hope you all have a good day.

CoveredInDribble · 16/05/2005 10:08

Marwell is indeed a zoo - like I said, not sure how much ds really saw/took in, but it got us out of the house!

We've noticed too that ds gets all fat round his face and tummy right before a growth spurt, then will shoot up in height and slim down again to a more "normal" looking shape, then will gradually pork up again before getting taller again - Mum says my brother did exaclty the same when he was a baby, so I guess Pog is just having a growth spurt like ours!

biglips · 17/05/2005 08:47

same here as ive noticed that baba lost abit of weight off her face and i was talking to mum on the phone about how is baba getting on and i mentioned about the solids "strike", mum said "she must be on a diet!

biglips · 17/05/2005 08:48

anyones baba when is crying, blowing raspberries in between? as mine does!

hotmama · 17/05/2005 09:10

Morning Biglips! DD does this when she is being fed - she cries, blows raspberries and cries again may have some food but then again may not!

I just can't work out when she is hungry. Yesterday scoffed all her breakfast and milk feed - this is sooo rare. Then had most of her lunch and then left most of her tea whereas she normally scoffs all of her lunch.

Today, we are back to normality in that dd has left most of her breakfast but luckily did have most of her milk feed. I am just taking it one day at a time as not one ever seems to be the same!

Getting dd weighed today, she seems really heavy so I am sure she is getting enough nutrition!

Maisiemog · 17/05/2005 12:58

Biglips, Pog always blows raspberries when he is crying. I find it very endearing, it's like he's trying to be cheerful, even when he's upset. Aaah bless.
Feeding aargh!! What's going on with these babies??!!
Pog took about two spoons of breakfast and lunch. He finally ate a whole bowl of tuna and squash at about 10pm. He then stayed up until 3am and woke up four times during the night, for a feed (milk of course).
He is being wierd about feeding on the right boob, I have to turn him round the other way to get him on. And he's very sharp when he goes on. Ow!
This morning again, refused brek, I then tried him with more tuna - mmmmmmm! But still only ate a few spoonfuls.
He seems to be having trouble with his mouth, so I'm thinking it could be teething that's stopping him from wanting to chew???
Biglips, so you think baba is having trouble with her teeth?
Anyone?

hotmama · 17/05/2005 13:13

Hiya Maisiemog.

Well DD has scoffed all her lunch and is now sleeping, but she was a right little madam this morning and took about a hour to eventually have her morning nap - but hopefully we are back on track now.

How do you know if they are teething? DD still doesn't have any and when I rub my finger on her gums I can't really feel anything. I am assuming she is because she seems really fractious sometimes and is putting anything hard in her mouth and rubbing her gums.

Doesn't it drive you mad when you have prepared lovely stuff to eat and then you are faced with mouths staying shut!

Off to the baby clinic to get dd weighed.

Maisiemog · 17/05/2005 13:45

Hotmama - Pass! I don't know either, apart from what you said about rubbing gums, I don't feel anything as such.
They must all be meeting up at night, when we're asleep and having baby burgers and chips or something. I bet they all laugh
'Mummy keeps making me food, but I won't eat it. hahaheehee! Yes so does mine. Hahahee!'

CoveredInDribble · 17/05/2005 14:37

Hi everyone! Think we're now definitely teething here - we had the same problems as you describe - chomping on everything in sight, not always wanting to feed, being grouchy for no obvious reason. For ages we couldn't see anything, now when the Dribble Monster opens his mouth, if you can see past the floods of dribble, you can see two teeth at the bottom - they haven't actually cut through the gums at the top yet, but you can see through the fronts of his gums where they are going to be, IYSWIM. Looks like he's going to have an explosion of teeth soon, as one of his top ones looks well on the way too!

(I did think he actually had a tooth earlier at lunch, but it turned out just to be a bit of pasta! So still waiting!)

hotmama · 17/05/2005 14:56

Hiya girls - back from the clinic. DD is now a whopping 21lb 7ozs up from 21.6 a fortnight ago. She has moved from the 91st centile nearly to the 98th - so I don't think I have to worry about her starving away.

The stress I had at the beginning with her taking ages to get back to her birthweight and then losing weight when I was breastfeeding her!

Asked the HV if she is putting on too much weight and she said it was fine and I would be glad that she is 'rounded' as when she starts crawling around she will lose loads.

Question for those whose db's are already crawling - did they start crawling from sitting up or from their fronts?

My dd sits up well and will roll from front to back and vice versa but doesn't do the rolling across the room. She spends most of the time sitting up and playing - should I be giving her more tummy time?

Like the idea of db's laughing at us during the night!

KathH · 17/05/2005 20:41

babymole crawled from his front - he's not sitting up yet!

huppa · 18/05/2005 08:22

Ds isn´t crawling yet, but when dd started she went from her front to crawling. Ds is rolling, but still not sitting up. Mind you he has a huge head, so loses his balance really quickly - must say he looks really funny as he topples to the side yet again . I should quickly add he has lots of cushions and us around to catch him.
How´s the weaning going Beansprout?
Has anyone heard from Toots? - she hasn´t posted for what seems like ages.

biglips · 18/05/2005 21:30

well the teething bit - no problems with baba as shes not crying with them, once i put foods in babas mouth she eats it not spit it out (its seems like she forgotton how to open her mouth)!!

still toppled over when sitting up for couple of seconds, still on all fours trying to figure out how the hell to crawl = babas frustrated face

Huppa - hello and welcome back, havent heard from Toots for a while now and the same to you - ihavent heard you for a while too till now, How R U?

biglips · 18/05/2005 21:45

maisie - about the babas meeting up in middle of night

Maisiemog · 18/05/2005 22:46

Those babies.....//#'/~@?:>*&^%%$!!!
Pog has now decided he is breastfed again and isn't eating food. Apart from little bits and pieces.
Where are those teeth he keeps telling me about????
Oh well, he managed on milk for six months, I'm sure he'll be fine.

hotmama · 19/05/2005 08:37

Maisiemog - couldn't agree with you more!

I usually give dd her breakfast then her milk and she often will leave some of both, so today I thought I would try something different. I gave her a 7oz bottle and then left it for 20 mins before giving brekkie - didn't want any! She'll be hungry at lunch then!

Still no teeth but dd actually did the roll thing yesterday - missed it though that'll teach me to try to clean the kitchen.
