Geogteach - glad you had a good time. Yikes to work in 2 weeks!!
Bellie - hope you are feeling better.
Jbadgirl - how are you today?

Ds now on antibiotics (boo) as the impetigo really not clearing up. Eczema is also popping up in more places. Seem to spend a lot of time applying various creams to him, with no particular results. He's pushing and a rollin' though and an all round pretty happy leedle Bean. We went to (another) wedding on Friday. My single friends were very broody and he loved the attention from the ladies.

CoveredInDribble · 24/05/2005 13:34

Jbadgirl, sorry to hear your news, hope you're feeling a little better today.

The Dribble Monster gt his first tooth over the weekend, amid much grumpiness, and it's looking like his 2nd and 3rd aren't far behind!

Geotech, let us know how going back to work goes, I'm going back in July, but only part time! Part of me can't wait, and part of me is a bit anxious about leaving ds at nursery, cos we've never really left him with anyone else before!

Maisiemog · 24/05/2005 14:26

Jbadgirl, I'm sorry to hear you feel so guilty. I can't see how you can be blamed for an infection - things like that happen, it's nobody's fault. Although it might be easier to blame someone sometimes.
I hope everything goes well for you and your little one. I'm sure you will still have lots of fun together, whatever happens.
What do you need to do next?

Maisiemog · 24/05/2005 14:31

Biglips - you'd better make sure that door's closed or she'll be off down the road at night to get some more milk
Geoteach congratulations on the sleeping (green-faced?) baby. I must contact social services about the sock thing though.
Dribble - yay! a tooth eh? Not bad, and more dribble/teeth to come...

jbadgirl · 24/05/2005 18:29

Thanks for all your posts and support. Feeling better today x

We attend theraplay which they said is the best thing we can do for toby at the moment, but as far as the docs are concerned there isnt much else they can do for us right now.

I dont feel too guilty about the infection as i know there was nothing i could do about it but you know what its like when you have thoughts of guilt that cross your mind x

Bellie · 24/05/2005 19:07

Glad to hear that you are having a better day today jbg - and hope the therapy provides the support that you need.
Hope everyone else is ok - having problems feeding dd at the moment but we will get there!
Glad you had a good holiday geogteach - green is the spanish orange!

Maisiemog · 24/05/2005 22:57

Yeah eating!?!? It's soo time consuming. Pog is now eating again, although he doesn't seem to eat as much as before. Maybe he has learnt to stop before he gets a tummy ache now.
I am spending so much time filling up icecube trays and blending things and feeding him and cooking things for him. But it's nice when he likes something I have made.
He really liked kidney beans mixed with sweet potato mango and apricot. Um. And he did about 50 poops to prove it. Whiiiizzz!! Straight through!!!

biglips · 25/05/2005 09:46

maisie - youre funny ... i told DP about what you said about better keep the door closed or baba will run off to the shops for more milk (doesnt surprise me if she ever does that one day)

baba is starting to prefer to sleep on her front with her nose pressing downwards!! i tried to turn her head side on but she turn her head back to face downward in her sleep (cant win!)

biglips · 25/05/2005 09:48

i will buy myself some ice cubes trays for baba's foods - i must get them today, i must get them today .......

docket · 25/05/2005 15:14

hello everyone

jbg, sorry to hear your news but glad you are feeling better.

ds is completely off his food, he was eating pretty much anything and everything and now he keeps his mouth firmly shut for anything that isn't sweet. hence have been experimenting with some very unlikely fruit/veg combos. this motherhood lark can be quite exhausting!

bibiboo · 25/05/2005 15:42

Coveredindribble - my dd gopt her first tooth on the weekend too - was your wknd as noisy and miserable as mine? She whined constantly through my best friend's birthday and all night at her house, despite me doing ym best florence nightingale act, doling out calpol and calgel. but now she's as ahppy as a sandboy(girl), and can't stop running her tongue over the new lump on her gum!

She's sitting up with much ocnfidence now, but is showing no signs of rolling or crawling anywhere. I'm sure we got a "mam-mam" the other day, but it's just noises for now - sigh.

Beansprout - how's lil Bean's impetigo and eczema? Poor love.

I'm not on here much anymore, but I do pop in occasionally to lurk and catch up on how you're all doing. Dad's been in hospital, so been doing 16 hour days then collapsing into bed! He's on the mend now, so I should be around a lot more.

Jbg, sorry to hear about the news of your little one - but it really isn't your fault. don't let that guilt get the better of you!

My dd had her first big-girl meal last night. I mushed up some veggie lasagne for her and she loved it! I'm still blending veggies and freezing them in little trays, but they're not so smooth nowadays and my combinations are getting a little more adventurous... btw, does anyone know the correct way to cook aubergines? I always griddle them for me and dh, but what do I do for dd? Can they be boiled? hmmmmm

bibiboo · 25/05/2005 15:48

Found it!
To Bake: A whole aubergine that is baked yields soft flesh that's easy to mash or puree, and it requires no attention while cooking. Pierce the aubergine with a fork several times (otherwise it may explode as the interior heats up), place on a baking sheet, and bake until soft to the touch. Cooking time: 30 to 40 minutes in a 400°F/200°C/gas mark 6.

geogteach · 25/05/2005 19:06

Well food here has been slightly more adventurous today DS2 had leftover chickpea curry pureed for lunch and was well impressed, reasonably impressed with my mashed sweet potato and cheese at tea too, he may be onto my cooking but i'm still noticing a recurring orange theme here, perhaps i'd better follow the aubergine tip I think we're getting one in our veg box this week.

NannyJo · 25/05/2005 19:19

how much milk are your babies taking a day???

DS has taken off on his solids fantastically but getting milk down him is a real fight, he has about 15 ozs a day. is that enough do you think???

He has 5 ozs in morning, no breakfast cereal (not interested at all) HUGE LUNCH and pudding 5ozs at 4pm, HUGE TEA and pudding at 5.30 then 4ozs at 8pm.

Does this seem ok???
Sorry to be neurotic

Maisiemog · 25/05/2005 21:35

We're moving towards giving Pog the same as us to eat. Today he actually had exactly the same as us, chicken and rice soup with veggies - just pureed it and he loved it. Next step fray bentos pie/sausages and mashed potatoes turnip and carrots or peas - which seems to have become a staple since dp started cooking.
I used to do most of the cooking - assisted by dp, but stopped when I was pregnant and he's taken up the reins. However, I can see that I'll have to get back into once Pog eats the same as us.
Pog's getting his knees under his body now and practically having a hernia in the process. Poor old Pog. Come on baby, you can do it!

NannyJo · 25/05/2005 21:39

no-one takes any notice of me on this thread.

Do you have to be a regular to join it? My DS was an october baby too.

nanny jo don't take it personally, i also find that as an occasional poster i tend to get ignored.

I wouldn't worry to much the milk intake will tend to go up and down depending on your ds sons mood/appetite. as long as his weight gain is steady i would be lead by him.

Maisiemog · 25/05/2005 22:08

Sorry NannyJo, I read your question, but Pog's breastfed, so I have NO idea how much milk he is drinking???
I have noticed the milk feeds go down or are considerably shorter the more he eats though?

geogteach · 25/05/2005 22:08

Nannyjo milk intake seems similar to here but he has much less than my other 2 did at this age so i'm going to get him weighed just to be sure.
Good to hear from you Rickman, glad its not just me that finds weaning the most tedious experience, though DS2 is a doddle so far compared to the others.

Maisiemog · 25/05/2005 22:10

And peanut too. I'll talk to you, what do you want to know???

NannyJo · 25/05/2005 22:10

thanks masiemog, thats what i worry about though, milk is still crucial but he's more interested in food. i'm worrying about finding a happy/healthy balance.

i'm loving weaning. it's so exciting to see /ds eat well. We had a lot of feeding troubles at birth and i thought we would get it all over again but he's been fantastic so far. i also love cooking so am enjoying experimenting in the kitchen for him. Annabel Karmels books are good

Maisiemog · 25/05/2005 23:23

Rickman, that sounds tough, I find giving Pog to people that are really nice and trustworthy a bit difficult sometimes. I've never been in your position, but you never know, you might even like the 'me' time - that is if you get any.
Nannyjo, snap! We had feeding problems too, and it IS a relief when a 'problem' feeder takes to solids. At least Pog has got the hang of this without too many tears. When he goes off his food a bit now it absolutely pales in comparison to how upset I used to those first weeks.
Dp told me that if you needed to check whether a baby was dehydrated you could check where the fontanelle is and if they are dehydrated, it will be depressed. I notice if Pog's a bit dehydrated by his nappies - if his poo's a bit too dry, I offer him milk feeds more often.
I read on baby centre that a weaning baby should get 600mls of milk a day which includes the milk used in solid food. Take a look at their weaning section, it might help.
