pistachio - I'll be there tomorrow at 5am to pick her up. She'll have to be an early riser to fit in here .
She is gorgeous, by the way!

MM - I'm here!
Q displayed behaviour we've never ever seen before tonight.... tried pushing out a poo since about 8am this morning... major straining at various points in the day... couldn't get anything out except a couple of random DRY little pellets???? No clue why that happened.
Then tonight, cried through his dinner and screamed through his bath (he usually only cries just before a feed and if he's overtired really... this was crazy!!) then it was cryyyyy cough cough cryyyyy cough cough as if choking. He did get some water on his face when I washed his hair... not sure if that did it. Couldn't latch on for his bf, crying and coughing... FINALLY, latched on and fell asleep within 5 minutes. As soon as he hit the cot, he was straining to poo.... this went on for 10 min. on his belly... straining harder than I've ever heard. Finally stopped and started crying. Took him out and gave lactulose then pushed knees into chest and gave tummy massage... (which we'd been doing ALL DAY) and watched him get out the biggest poo I've ever seen exit his body!! Poor guy. At least it's out now. He was then so tired, rubbed eyes and could barely keep them open. Gave him a nice long cuddly bf and he was in his cot at 8 (1 hr later than usual). He's now sound asleep. Sorry for the long novel. Just couldn't believe it.
Oh! and his hands were FREEZING for the longest time... couldn't warm them up and had a weird red blotchy rash on the side of his face that wouldn't go away! it's mostly gone now and hands feel a tad warmer. No idea what happened there. But he's happily snoozing now, thank goodnenss!

Hello ladies. It's taken me ages to catch up on everybody's news! Sorry to hear about poorly babies and poorly mums.

Blimey - I've been shocked by some of your birth stories too. Mine wasn't exactly the aromatherapy-scented experience I'd been hoping for (laughs bitterly), but MM and HMM you both really went through the mill.

We've just got back back from a lovely weekend away on the Kent coast with loads of friends. We went past Gillingham on the motorway MM. I thought of you. I didn't realise we were going to be anywhere near.

DS had a lovely time and got loads of attention from everybody - He's going to be sorely disappointed to discover that I can't maintain quite that level of stimulation on my own this week. He doesn't seem himself now though - he had a massive feed earlier on and then did the biggest projectile vomit he's ever done. It was spurting out of his nose and really frightened him poor fella(and me, actually. I reckon there was about 5oz of milk there). Since then he doesn't want to lie down and doesn't want to feed. I'm wondering whether he's got a bit of a bug, or whether it's to do with the fact that he's started on solids. Have other people found that their babies have become sicky like that since starting eating?

Anyway, although I had a great time this weekend, I didn't get much sleep, so I'm going to try and get this little man to drop off so I can go to bed too. Night night ladies.

jenwa · 06/04/2009 21:35

star Poo Q, how awful, he must have been so uncomfortable bless him.

aubergenie Glad you had a nice trip, bet you are tired. Sorry your Ds been poorly. Phoebe been ok, was poorly afew weeks ago but it may be combined with teething too (athough none appeared yer ! Could be a bug though or could just be his tummy getting used to new food?

Bored tonight so off to bed soon with my book. DH just got in and he covered in paint! May speak to him actually !!!!

Marthasmama · 06/04/2009 21:41

Hello CSWS, Star and Aubergenie -

CSWS - I did start reading your birth thread the other day as DH has signed up for MN and asked if anyone else's DH's were on here. I said yes MrCSWS is on here so he asked if he posted a lot. I did a search and said, no! But I did see your going in to be induced thread! I will read through it, I got interrupted by M (inconsiderate baby) last time! Oh and [raspberries] re: the Bloom.

Star - Poor little Q! M got really upset the first time she did a soild poo. I think it must have felt really weird for her. Glad he's ok now though, he must feel so much better after getting that out!

Aubergenie - Whereabouts were you on the coast? M has been fine with her little bits of food and ds was actually a lot less sick when he started weaning. S may have picked up a bug. I find M gets really bored on a Monday because she has spent the weekend with her daddy, brother and more often than not, her granny.
She gets so bored of me after a while!

M was really funny this morning. She woke up, put her mobile on (we have the rain forest one with the buttons within reach), grabbed her pink bunny (of course) an started fighting/playing/singing with it. She has having loads of fun! It was very cute. She's 6 months on Thursday. Time is flying.....

Marthasmama · 06/04/2009 22:05

Read it CSWS - we're you just trying to ensure that you got your money's worth out of the NHS? A whole working week in hospital? D really was comfy wasn't he?

Marthasmama · 06/04/2009 22:24

I mean were not we're. I think the grammar part of my brain came out with M! I hope it grows back as I am normally so pedantic!

heather1980 · 06/04/2009 22:35

star, just you wait. dd does the smelliest poos in the world, she usually does little rabbit pellets but my god they stink! they are easier to clean up than liquid poo though.

alex has taken really well to food, but he isn't well tonight. he has a cough and temp and sounds all pathetic. he's in bed now so we'll see how he goes.

aubergine - dd was spoilt rotten when we were away in feb, and it took her a while to settle down again.

pepperrabbit · 06/04/2009 22:44

evening ladies - just touching base. Drama filled day here starting with the dentists for the DSs and sainsburys for easter eggs. Then we had some friends coming over this afternoon and one of the little boys (4yrs) was sprinting through our lounge as they do, and tripped smack into our coffee table, and cut his head. Was about an inch across, right at his hairline and I have never seen so much blood, poor mite it was dripping off his nose it was coming out so fast . We had to lie him down and keep quite a lot of pressure to get it to calm down even enough to see the damage. He's fine now - just the 3 hours in casualty for his poor mum, dad and little sister, they've glued him back together.
They'd been here less than 5 minutes I reckon as the kettle hadn't even boiled!
Anyhow,
Sorry for the poorly myjobs, hope you all feel better soon.
MM I laughed at the idea of M sorting herself out with some music and a teddy first thing - she'll be bringing you breakfast in bed before you know it!
CSWS hope you have an OK night with the slapped cheek - poor things.
I'm away for a couple of days going to see a friend tomorrow. She's my best friend and has 3 kids as well, very sadly she lost her husband in a freak car accident 2 years ago so she struggles with them all on her own. So thats the 2 of us and 6 kids - what can possibly go wrong!
Take care all.

CantSleepWontSleep · 07/04/2009 08:52

Poor old Q and his poo star. Ds often finds it very painful to poo since he started solids. Sometimes they are very dry and hard and he literally screams and cries as he is doing them.

How inconsiderate of your house guest to bleed all over you and your house pepper. I'd cross him off your invite list .
Hope you enjoy your time with your friend.

Aubergenie - doesn't sound like a normal reaction to solids (unless he's allergic to something he's tried of course), so prob just a coincidence.

MM, yes, D was def very comfy inside! I expect that as he'd spent ages being breech he felt like he was due some more time doing headstands.

How are the myjobs today?
We had a terrible night, as expected, and ds' temp still 38.7.

OP posts:
aubergenie · 07/04/2009 09:30

CSWS - hope ds is feeling better soon.

Star - I was so slow typing my post last night that we crossed. Poor little Q and his poo.

MM - We were in Herne, just down the coast from Whitstable. We rented a massive house (with a great playroom, full of kids stuff), and just relaxed for the weekend. Lovely weather too - we were sitting out in the garden drinking wine on Sunday. Bliss!

Well, I think I know why ds was sick yesterday. I've had a bit of a dodgy tummy in the night but dp has the full on D&V and is really poorly. He's lying on the sofa with a nappy bucket next to him. He must be really sick, cos he's self employed and has taken a day off.

Marthasmama · 07/04/2009 09:53

There is a bug going round isn't there? I met up with some local MNers yesterday and one of the dds has was throwing up all night. I think it's to do with the change of seasons and turn in the weather. My friend lives in Herne Bay and we are regular visitors to Whistable. I LOVE Whistable in the winter, it's so bleak! Argh, M is in a grump today. Speak later....

Whitstable is nice isn't it. My only regret about the weekend was that I didn't manage to have any chips. I love a bleak seaside town in the winter too. My family are in East Anglia and we often go to the Suffolk coast and that can be really bleak. I keep saying that I'd like to move to the seaside but dp finds that whole bleakness really depressing so it's not going to happen.

So glad you're feeling better myjob. I think dp must have the same thing. I didn't take much notice at first, as he can be a bit of a drama queen when he's ill (often has "a touch of flu" ), so I tend to ignore it. But he's really, really poorly today and I feel a bit guilty. How long was it till you were on the mend?

Dh and I have often thought about maybe moving to Whitstable but ds would be heart broken about leaving his school.

Glad you're feeling better today Myjob.

Pepper - Head injuries really, really bleed even if they're tiny don't they? I got cracked round the head with a stiletto when I was 15. It bled everywhere but it was just glued together at hospital. I hope you're furnishings/carpet weren't ruined.

I am really BORED! M decided to wake up at 2am then didn't go back to sleep until 4.30 . So she is now snoozing on my lap. I want to go out for a walk but I'm waiting in for a friend who is a builder, so he can give us a quote for the bathroom. I thought he was coming in the morning and so now I'm wondering how long I wait in for him. I have no food in so I was going to get some lunch out.

Myjob, sorry to hear about the feeding. Apparently fennel tea is good for re-establishing supply.

Marthasmama · 07/04/2009 13:02

Heh heh Myjob - Well you would have to ask wouldn't you. My ex got beaten up by a 'lovely' man, yes man (we were 15), and I kicked the man in the nuts so his girl friend whacked me round the head with her shoe. Just read your previous post. Have a look on here and if no joy, post a thread. I'm sure someone will know what to do. I'll look too....

Oh dear - I seem to be living in the House of Poo and Vomit. DP is still heaving and running into the bathroom, and poor little ds woke himself up from his nap with a vomit, and then did another absolutely massive projectile one again all down my front, all over the chair, all over the floor. I've got no clean clothes left! He's had quite a few dirty nappies this morning as well. In between times, he seems OK. Quiet, but in reasonably good spirits, but I'm a bit worried about him becoming dehydrated, as he's thrown so much up. I suppose I just have to keep an eye on his nappies to ensure that they're wet. Is there anything else I should be doing, do you think?

KSal · 07/04/2009 14:35

Hi aubergenie I'm sure i may be telling you something you already know but try to give him small drinks often as he may keep them down more succesfully. Also keep an eye on his soft spot.

Sorry to hear about people coming down with D&V, it went through our house when emma was 6 weeks old... it was grim.

Marthasmama · 07/04/2009 14:35

I think the advice is to carry on bfing but not to give any solids until he has been clear of V & D for 12 hours. It's so touching seeing them try to struggle on being themselves when they're ill isn't it. My ds always seems to cope so much better with illness than DH or I! Here you go. Hope little S is better soon poor little man. Don't want him to lose those muscles

CantSleepWontSleep · 07/04/2009 14:42

myjob - there's no reason why you being ill should affect your milk at all. It's more likely to be the fact that N is eating more solids, and thus taking less milk, and your supply is adjusting accordingly.

aubergenie - I would focus on getting fluids into ds and not worry about solids until he is better.

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 07/04/2009 14:46

MM - they don't actually advise starving the child/bug any more, but as S has only recently started having a few bits of food he is unlikely to miss them.

OP posts:
aubergenie · 07/04/2009 15:53

Thanks for the advice. I didn't think to look on Kellymom. I've just given him a small feed and will try another small one in a bit as it was the big ones that came back in spectacular fashion. Anyway, must go and put another wash on...!
