Blimey... i have missed loads, but just wanted to add my 2 pence on various things in case someone finds it useful...

highchairs - we have the east coast combination its been great so far and came highly recommended by friends who still use it as table and chair for their 2 year old girl. I also have friends who are very pleased with the tripp trapp

fromage frais - plum organic do sugar free fromage frais pots (about £1.99!) and sainsburys do their own 'kids' version. They are both just sweetened with fruit juice (but the plum ones have things like sweet fennel in them... why?) Emma absolutely loves them.

excema i have been using aveeno on emma and it is working (double base cream didn't). Also i read somewhere on here that putting some oats in a sock in the bath and giving them a good squeeze helps (so i did that too as we always have porridge oats). I used the adult aveeno as i didn't realise you could get baby (haven't seen it in shops but it is available online).

reflux - HMM, emma has been on solids for about 6 weeks now (she's 30 weeks) and the pukiness has definitely slowed down a bit. the unfortunate thing is that when she is sick it absolutely reeks!! also if she gags on food she really hurls (i suspect a little easier than most babies). I am hoping that once she is fully supporting her own weight when she's sitting it will get a lot better (she still tends to topple or fall forward, which compresses her tummy).

DH just phoned to say that emma cried when he dropped her off at nursery today . that's the first time it has happened and i think it may be because we had such a great weekend. I'm desperate for the day at work to be over now so i can go and get her!

sorry for the mammoth post!

aubergenie · 14/04/2009 09:45

MM - Thanks for the offer. I showed your bath support to DP and he liked it too. The only problem is that I think it might be difficult to fold up and store behind the bathroom door.

DS went to bed at about 8.45 (after a few false starts) only woke at 3 and 6 for a feed, and slept until 9.30. I woke up all panicky because I thought there was something wrong with him!

I can't remember if I said this already, so ignore if I did, but I was told that another good thing for excema is rooibus/redbush tea. Just stick a teabag in the bathwater for a while.

Marthasmama · 14/04/2009 10:16

Is it Aubergenie? That's good to know. I can't drink it because it tastes like shit flowers so I now have a use for the massive box I bought! The other problem with my bath support is that if you don't feed it, it starts making this really annoying noise.

Ksal - Thanks. I'll get some Aveeno next time I see it. I think maybe I'll try a combination of oats and redbush tea in the bath. M will smell like breakfast!

High chairs - I had a Svan for ds but because it is all wood, it was difficult to clean without ruining the finish. We still have it but it's a bit knackered.

Can someone please come and eat all the left over cake and chocolate? I really need to start dieting properly and just can't with all this chocolate around

KSal · 14/04/2009 10:55

Oh and my dad made some comment about giving emma chocolate when i wasn't looking! he thinks i'm a big meany not letting her have any!! i just want to delay introducing her to all the lovely things i feel guilty about eating (cream cake, chocolate, ice cream etc etc)
I'm pretty sure i was never given sweets.. mind you he probably didn't have much input into my diet!

Glad you got your computer sorted Myjob. What a pain. I usually pass that sort of thing over to dp, even though I'm quite capable of doing it myself. It makes him feel important! When are you going away?

I've been lovingly preparing some homemade ricotta for ds, who has been rejecting food completely after his bug. I thought it would be nice to have with some fruit purees in, and gentle on his stomach. BUT I've just read in my book that it's suitable from 7 months onwards. Somehow I managed to overlook that bit. Ds is 6 months plus one and a half weeks. What is the reasoning behind waiting for 7 months before giving it to him, does anyone know? (The ingredients are whole milk, live yoghurt and a tiny bit of lemon juice, all organic).

KSal · 14/04/2009 15:51

aubergenie i have not heard about ricotta being from 7 months only before, but i can't see any reason why not. I would have thought live yoghurt was a good thing, but hopefully someone with more info will come along soon... i just wanted to register how impressed i am that you are making your own!!

If you already know that he's fine with dairy aubergenie then I would say to go ahead and give it (it is pasteurised isn't it?). I've never heard anyone say not til 7 months before. It's only mould ripened and blue cheeses that I thought one should wait a while for. Where did you get the 7 month thing from?

OP posts:
aubergenie · 14/04/2009 16:35

I think he's OK with dairy, CSWS - I've been giving those teething powders with no ill effects but otherwise it's untested.

I got the recipe from my book Yummy Baby, and it's in there that she says 7 months. She says that the ricotta is exactly how milk forms in the tummy as it is digested (and that's exactly what it looks and smells like!) which is why I thought it might be good. If none of you have heard that, I would think it should be fine.

It's actually really easy, Ksal. I love messing around in the kitchen though as I find it really relaxing. Dp is back early from work so him and ds are having some boys' time together while I potter around. Lovely!

aubergenie · 14/04/2009 16:37

CSWS - Also, I've been eating dairy all the time I've been feeding him, so can I assume that he's OK with it?

CantSleepWontSleep · 14/04/2009 19:57

Not necessarily aubergenie. It's not unusual for people to only discover an allergy/intolerance at 6 months when they wean or switch to formula and suddenly find their child covered in hives! Only way to find out is to give some though .

Oh well, I'll give it a try tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks.

Quiet here tonight isn't it.

Marthasmama · 14/04/2009 20:25

Aubergenie - I have found a thread discussing the wonder that is Flight of the Conchords Here you go!

jenwa · 14/04/2009 20:27

myjob yes Caitlin and there was another which I cant remember sorry but N's middle name is Caitlin isn't it? Its so sweet thought that we were discussing names this time last year

got dd2 some rice cakes, she did suck it but kept dropping it

Did a roast yesterday and pureed the veg and she was gagging and chocking loads I just watched her but felt a little worried when she wheezed but she recovered ok! DH freaked out by it and does not think I should be giving her anything big that is not pureed even though she choked on my pureed stuff!

Marthasmama · 14/04/2009 20:30

Ah glad you're like me Jenwa and let her get on with it! I am gutted I missed out on the antenatal stuff. Silly me!

Ds delighted us by pooing in the bath tonight. Thankfully dd wasn't in with him, or I don't think she'd have been too impressed!

He's def eating well again now, and already eats more variety of fruit than dd will touch, devouring 2 big strawberries after his tea. They were lovely and ripe and soft so I gave them to him whole and he sucked and nibbled bits off them until there was just a tiny bit of mush left.

Glad he's got his appetite back CSWS! DS once pooed in that bath he was sahring with me. He picked the poo up and presented it to me. I thought he was giving me a toy so I took it. Yay! I shouted very loudly for dh!!!

Ds did that the other day, CSWS. Delightful!

I've been having a massive clear out of ds's smaller baby clothes. Much as I'd love to hang on to them in case we have another, we haven't got the room, so I've saved a few of my favourite bits and I'm going to donate the rest to a women's refuge.

I've also been looking at my sorry excuse for a wardrobe too. This breastfeeding lark is all very well, but so restrictive clothes-wise. I've got some lovely dresses and stuff all packed away, as I can't exactly hoik them up each time ds needs feeding. I'm so sick of wearing the same boring, sick-stained things day after day after day. I'm planning to carry on with the BFing for a good while yet, but that's a real down side. Does anyone else feel the same, or have you all got a vast array of practical yet stylish outfits? if so.

Marthasmama · 14/04/2009 21:05

I was moaning just this very morn that I have nothing to wear! I am jujst holding out for another six months and then I am going to make DH buy me a new wardrobe. I might even get a school run dress, so MN!

CantSleepWontSleep · 14/04/2009 21:07

Lol at the thought of me in anything stylish . I have some dresses that I can't wear, and then a mish mash of tops that I've mostly had for ages and skirts and trousers likewise.

I miss wearing a decent bra more though. Huge norks look crap in saggy bf bras. Went out the other week for my one night out since ds, and wore a proper bra, and the difference was amazing.
