Hi there ! Can I join? or should I say rejoin? I was on the antenatal list and then somehow got so overwhelmed with the baby that I haven't had the chance to get back on MN !

DS was born on October 13 at 6lb 4 oz and will be 6 months now. I've started giving him tasters already, but he developed diarrhoea so i'm waiting till monday when he is exactly 6 months to restart weaning !

Am also researching high chairs now ! Any tips?

CantSleepWontSleep · 10/04/2009 22:31

To my parents hmm.

Welcome back firsttimer.

I have bought the zuma highchair and am delighted with it.

Honeymoonmummy · 10/04/2009 22:34

Hi there Firsttimer! [excited wave] Don't even get me STARTED on highchairs!!

Honeymoonmummy · 10/04/2009 22:35

Oh have a good time CSWS and sorry about your friend MM.

Marthasmama · 10/04/2009 22:38

Hello firsttimer. I joined the group when you left! Overwhelmed by a newborn? I don't understand how! I got the Bloom Baby but the concensus seems to be that I am a crazy fool.

Honeymoonmummy · 10/04/2009 22:50

Yes, don't listen to MM, she's a crazy foool. I ain't getting on no plane. [HMM goes into Mr T mode]

CantSleepWontSleep · 11/04/2009 04:30

this is getting ridiculous now. Been up an hour so far this time, and was up for half an hour at 1 too. Still no sign of him sleeping, but I have no idea what the problem is.

OP posts:
firsttimer08 · 11/04/2009 07:44

i love the bloom, but i just cannot justify the costs! i've just gone back to work and childcare costs are so much that i need to be careful in my spending.

csws the zuma looks good too.

do most high chairs have a good balance or as there was a comment somewhere do i need to focus on its legs?

last night was awful. ds kept waking up every 2 hours and cld only be rocked back to sleep. at nursery he refused to sleep more than 45 mins in the entire 10 hours, so his sleep patterns are just horribly messed up.

re: weaning - what meal did everyone start with? i'm going to start with lunch and then move on to either breakfast or tea.

star6 · 11/04/2009 08:08

csws sorry D has been so unsettled sleeping! Is he fussy/crying or just awake? Has he gone back to sleep now?
thanks csws for petit filous info - I hadn't looked at one yet.
I should have logged on earlier... I'm up at 4.30 expressing!
Sometimes I notice Q needs less sleep than others... it's usually a few days where he sleeps a bit less and then after that he sleeps loads for a few days and then back to normal.
firsttimer08 - no fancy high chair here. No room! Or money! we just use a booster chair with a tray. it cost 12.97 in Tesco, is cheap and plastic, but primary colours and Q loves it and it serves it's purpose. And folds away really small so it doesn't clutter. We can also bring it with us if we want or put it on the floor, on a chair, on the table...etc. I also got one of those cloth things that you hang on the chair (as a gift) and we use that when out anywhere - he loves it!
MM I know someone in similar situation. It's scary and horrible.
Q was better through the night. He woke at 11, 2, 2.30 and at 4.30 I just brought him to bed with me and fed him once. He's still sleeping now (with DH). Rash is still awful, but I THINK it's getting a bit better?
myjob - just got your message on facebook! Sorry, I was logged in, but crazy with Q here. He wouldn't feed at bedtime, screamed and SCREAMED like never before... he's like a different baby all of a sudden and SO fussy. I will try your suggestion. What will I know after that?
Damn these jabs!!! I was thinking of not getting them. If he continues like this... i can't imagine.
His fever breaks for a few hours after calpol and then comes back - and this is since Wednesday. How long can a fever possibly last?!?!

CSWS - You're not alone in still having terrible nights. M only woke up twice again last night but still did the 'I want to play for a couple of hours' thing at 3.45! She is now in a huge grump as she is so tired from another day of no sleep. We have tried everything (not CC or CIO) with that little madam and nothing works!

Hmm - I shall have to find an alternative way to drug you to get you on that plane as you are dairy free so....no milk. Oh, plus you're a veggie. I'm sure a burger was used once as an alternative. 'I ain't drinking no Rice Milk.' Glad you've decided on a highchair. There's too much choice isn't there?!

Star - Poor Q. That is a long time to have a fever. Hopefully if the rash is calming down his temp will come down too.

FT08 - I started with breakfast as it was the time M was in the best mood. It took a while for her to get used to food but now she loves it. I find that she wants to have some grub in the middle of a bf. She'll have a bit of milk, get bored, have some food and then back on the boob.

My friend has just gone into labour!!! She has three girls and her DH kept bugging her to try for a boy. So they did and they're having......a BOY!!! Finally! I am going to be so jealous. A lovely newborn.

Honeymoonmummy · 11/04/2009 19:52

Hi all, I've ordered the 3-sixti They did price-match CSWS, thanks. Th white noise didn't work but I've only tried it once to be fair. It should be here when I come back from Wales woo hoo!

star6 · 11/04/2009 20:07

Yeah for your high chair HMM! We turn on a little fan/space heater (on cool fan setting) at night for Q. he sleeps really well with that on. Without it I don't think he'd sleep so well.
Fever came back around dinner time. I fed him carrot/swede/melon/plum mix (he liked that... ). But had to give 5ml more of calpol. Fever is now down but he's sweating and clammy sleeping in his cot. I've put fan facing him and window open to give some cool air... he's been tugging his ear today, too. Goodness, when it rains it pours.

CantSleepWontSleep · 11/04/2009 20:15

If he's been tugging his ear and doesn't usually star, then get him checked out for an ear infection if you can (not easy on a bank holiday weekend I know), just to be on the safe side.
Fever lasted 4/5 days for us, but no rash in the end, so still unsure what the cause was. Unfortunately dh might now have whatever it was, as he's been feeling terrible since last night.

Yay for kiddicare price matching hmm. Hope you have a lovely time in Wales.

Honeymoonmummy · 11/04/2009 23:04

Thanks. Poppy just started tugging her ear last few days, but I assumed she'd just found them....?

She's been really sick again today

Honeymoonmummy · 11/04/2009 23:51

Where is everyone tonight???

Marthasmama · 12/04/2009 08:43

Good morning. Sorry hmm....I was fliting between MN and FB. Sorry to hear that poor Poppy is still so sick. Unfortunately I have no good advice to offer M still doesn't sleep. She went to bed at 9.30, woke up at 1 then from 3.30 - 5 then got up for the day at 7. She slept more when she was newborn! Dh is thinking of contacting the Guinnes Book of Records - the incredible non-slepping baby.

Out of curiosity, would any of you give chocolate to a five month old baby?

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/04/2009 09:00

Absolutely not re chocolate.

I had to resettle ds and then went to bed at 9:47! He was up for ages in the night again (though a little less than the night before) and only resettled with the aid of medicine, so I guess he's still got some sort of pain that we can't see (and is still horribly snotty). He won't settle lying down for his nap this morning either, so am having to try pushchair (have left him in it for a few mins as he was playing with the strap , but I think that dd is now entertaining him by showing him her bare bottom).

Could it be a bug that Poppy has caught rather than any of the usual reasons for her sickness?

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 12/04/2009 09:01

Oh, and tugging ears can be just found them, teething pain, tiredness or an ear infection, just to be really helpful!

OP posts:
Marthasmama · 12/04/2009 09:22

Thank you CSWS. I was scared that my judgey pants were getting an airing unnecessarily. A friend was boasting to DH last night about how they had given their 5 month old ds some choc yesterday and how he was going to have loads more today. DH was but didn't say anything as he doesn't do judgey pants. What confuses me is that their ds is a very very very PFB. I don't understand why you would introduce chocolate when there is no reason to. Oh well, each to their own I suppose.

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/04/2009 10:27

Is this pfb weaned already mm, or will this be his first food?

OP posts:
Marthasmama · 12/04/2009 10:37

They started weaning at three months as he seemed hungry . I've just read that ideally babies shouldn't have chocolate until they are 2. DS had some at 18 months but that is because he stole it.

Marthasmama · 12/04/2009 11:16

Oh and DH has just told me his friend has given M an Easter egg. She'll get it through mummy's milk!!

Honeymoonmummy · 12/04/2009 12:51

Most of my RL friends have started weaning before 6 months, if it weren't for MN I'd have probably started by now because of that.

It might be a teething thing, can anything soothe it for teething other than 24-7 calpol?

Happy Easter everybody!!!!

ONE SLEEP TO HOLIDAY WOO HOO!!!!!
