Dinky sorry about Danny. We'll all still, be there at 12 but why don'y you call or text one of us to let us know if you're coming along?

dinkystinky · 07/04/2009 08:30

Dear god Pempe - that woman should not be allowed anywhere near children!

Danny is a grunty strainy child at times (wind rather than poo) and can go days without a poo and then has pretty explosive ones. Bicycling legs while he is awake, or gently holding them and bringing his toes towards his nose while awake, and elevating his head at nights helps reduce the grunting and straining. Other things you can try for a baby having trouble passing farts or pooing is gentle tummy massage (always in a clockwise direction) - you massage in a circle around the belly button for a few minutes, then take the palm of your hand and place on the tummy of the baby and gently roll it round in a clockwise direction also (the pressure helps them relax and fart or poo).

Have a good meet-up everyone

Pempe - I'm FF and when DS is a bit constipated, I give him an ounce of cooled boiled water before his feed. Works a treat for me.

You need some advice from the BF girls I think though.....why don't you start a thread in children's health? You'll get lots of advice then I should think.

Poor little thing....hope he's ok.

PinkTulips · 07/04/2009 10:30

pempe... i know in the 'what to expect in the first year' book it does mention that taking a babies temp up the bum can cause them to poo but i'm not sure your supposed to do it to make them poo from a good doc i'd think it was plausible advice but on the basis of that paed being completely insane i'd say don't bother!

bicycling the legs was always a good one with dd... garuanteed to get pooed or farted at when i did that for her

enjoy the day out ladies.... i get to spend my day banking and shopping have some cake on my behalf

herbgarden · 07/04/2009 16:36

Sorry didn't make it today in the end and hope you've all had a lovely day. A long story but for various boring reasons we ended up owning a buy to let property last year - the lady who moved in with her boyfriend gave birth to twins in late Jan (prem at 30 weeks) and has been in and out of hospital with them. Anyway, her charming partner has decided to leave her and move out of the house (babies are 11 weeks old) so I've been trying to sort out the admin today (she probably can't afford the rent on her own and will move out soon) and see if we can put it on the market. If we can sell it, we can do the renovations on our ugly house which we're desperate to do (well DH more than me - I can't bear the thought of the process so am in denial and looking past it to the finished product ).....

Let's see what happens but I'm not hopeful of a sale. If not we'll end up renting it again which is a pain but needs must an'all.
I did however manage to finish my mountain of filing (6 months worth), make some calls,a cauliflower cheese for dinner tonight and some ratatouille for dinner tomorrow night when in-laws are here. I feel like a domestic goddess

Off to get DS from nursery. Apparently he didn't want to go in yesterday - he was fine til he got to the top of the stairs when he then got hysterical and hid behind DH's legs. Did the same thing yesterday. he's been a bit velcroey in the last few days. Maybe sickening for something (I always say that) or maybe, its, a PHASE !!....

I'll check back in later !

herbgarden · 07/04/2009 16:37

PS I can't bear the thought of shoving a thermometer up DD's bottom ...just to get a poooo out. FGS !!
I second PT's suggestions.

swampster · 07/04/2009 17:22

GUESS WHAT?

Some of you guys are like, real people!

thehouseofmirth · 07/04/2009 17:31

I hope you're not referring to me

swampster · 07/04/2009 17:40

Of course not, how very dare you even suggest it? You are, and shall remain, a figment of my very active imagination!

Thank you all for a lovely day. Was very nice to see you all again and meet those of you who weren't at the last meet-up.
STW You ran off without me giving you back that £1, will have to get it next time
MrsY So pleased you made it and hope the journey home was nice and peaceful.

My other 2 boys have had a lovely day at home too. Dp called me at midday to say Ds1 had gone down for a nap without any fuss, and they didn't get up til 4 when I called to say I was on the way home! I don't feel guilty on dp now. (he has to work tonight)

Is anybody going to read this post seeing as I said I get bored if I have 4 pages to catch up on? But sure you all know what I meant [bgin]

I do feel slightly guilty that I didn't take ds1, he'd have loved it there, but journey was pretty simple so I will definitely take him another day.

I'm also very impressed at how well behaved everyone's babies are! Considering there was quite a few of us, in all, it was a very quite day.
All the babies are very cute so not only did we al manage to come up with fantastic names, but we have all produced lovely looking people.

SomeMightSay · 07/04/2009 18:00

bgin???? does that mean I need a drink? lol

thehouseofmirth · 07/04/2009 18:06

PT I think we should all have a whip-round and fly you in for the next meet up!

mslucy · 07/04/2009 18:28

Hey there.

To everyone at the meet up, I'm sorry I didn't come and hang out properly, but I was with an old friend who I don't see that often as she works very hard. I felt really rude, but I didn't want to be rude to her either.

We'd made a date ages ago to meet at Coram's Fields and it was a kind of weird coincidence that it clashed with your meet up.

I managed a quick hello to a few people - sorry not to chat to more but I didn't want to abandon my friend and dh.

Also thought I'd lost ds1 a couple of times, only to find him surrounded by scary looking chavvy 10 year olds on that spinny thing by the big slide - having the time of his life of course. I think we will take him back there over the Easter weekend - we'd been there ages ago and he seems to have grown into it, so to speak.

Hope you all had fun and from what I could see, your babies looked lovely.

dinkystinky · 07/04/2009 19:32

Ah so that was you there in the corner MsLucy - I kept thinking that you looked very familiar and wondering why. Stanley looked v cute! Sorry I didnt get to meet him in person or say hello to you in person - had to head back for a doctor appointment before you said hi to a few people at the table.

Was really lovely to meet (or re-meet) some of you and your little and not so little people. Very biased I know but we have definitely produced lots of gorgeous little ones - and I was really impressed at how well behaved the older kids who came were. Pinktulips - maybe we should aim for the next meet up in Ireland? We should definitely hold a couple more meet ups over the summer (apparently forecast to be a lovely July and August this year - time will tell but would be soooooooo nice if the forecast was right).

Sorry you didnt make it Herbgarden - though sounds like you've had a very productive day instead. Hopefully you'll make the next meet up. And Nkweto - you were sorely missed; we'll definitely have to try and arrange a meet up for end of April/early May before you go back to work. I hope you're recuperating well and you'll be able to make your holiday.

ps Pink - today's potty training tally is 3 wees in the potty (inspired by the desire for chocolate mini bunnies I brought back with me from a chocolate shop near the meet up), one accident while sat in a cardboard box (DS1 may be a mini-tramp in training ) and one massive poo in his naptime nappy - apparently it was so stinky our poor nanny had to air the entire top floor of our house for hours to get rid of the smell!

OP posts:
PinkTulips · 07/04/2009 19:46

we've had a bad day. put ds1 on the toilet earlier and he wouldn't pee, tried a couple more times but he refused to try, then at 2ish he pooed and peed his pull up and i gave up for the day

i know you're supposed to be consistent but he was in foul humour and i didn't want to make the toilet into a big deal.

tomorrow's another day

glad ye had a good time, one of these days i'll get over for a meetup

swampster · 07/04/2009 19:47

Dinky, next time you must bring him along to meet my monsters.

swampster · 07/04/2009 19:51

PT, I had three pairs of trackie bums for DS2 today. All sopping by the end of the day. I had to put him back in the driest pair for the journey home

herbgarden · 07/04/2009 20:05

Oh god you are not giving me hope for the potty training.....I get very positive after DS has spent his two days at nursery where he wears pants (he came home today in borrowed Fireman Sam pants which he loved - must get him some) and then it all goes downhill by the weekend when I've just been lazy and he's managed a few wees on the left out potty whilst still in pull ups. Saying that he managed to get out of the bath last night and poo on the potty (he seriously would have pooed in the bath if I hadn't coaxed him out with the promise of choc buttons [at 6.30pm ])and also did a poo when he got back from nursery tonight on it. I really should just now go for it shouldn't I. I can join you in the "Fab Febbers Operation Potty Training of DS1's (!)"....
In-laws here tomorrow so maybe we might have a pants day .

Peed off with DH - he's come home and is hogging the telly watching Champions League footie and has just announced that his golfing "weekend" from Sunday of the Bank Holiday actually extends to Wednesday of that week (not Tuesday morning). That's four days and three nights away...I'm going to go mental. Maybe DS might like a little holiday to Granny's .

dinkystinky · 07/04/2009 20:08

Will do Swampster - am sure he'll love your boys!

Pinktulips - one of my friends recommended to me that if little boys wont wee in the potty or hate sitting on the loo, to teach them to wee standing up straight off (which is what she ended up doing with her 2 who were resistant to the potty or sitting on the loo) and it worked a treat. Maybe worth a go if DS1 is still scared of sitting on both the potty and the loo.. apparently once they get used to weeing standing up at the loo they are happier to sit on it. DS1 is off to a playgroup tomorrow so am expecting lots of accidents...

dinkystinky · 07/04/2009 20:30

Herbgarden - it sounds like your son is willing to potty train; just needs time (sadly lots of yours)to get there. Great that he is clean and dry at nursery - really promising...

katieblirdsnest · 07/04/2009 20:42

lovely to meet some of you today...i'm being true to my word and joining in with typing actual words onto the screen!

apologies again and thanks to those of you that helped look for DD when i lost her. she'd decided to go and join the big kids on the zip wire. she honestly does normally take a good while to get involved when we go somewhere new but not today. i think dinky got the brunt of her verbals though!

DS continued to sleep all the way home, having not really bothered to wake up to be sociable at the meet up. woke up as we were arriving home.

dinkystinky · 07/04/2009 20:58

Nice to see you posting KatieBlirdsNest - and your DD is lovely; I felt v honoured to have some nice chats with her Sorry you lost her though - that must have been terrifying. DS1 ran off on me and DH the other weekend in homebase - it was the most scary 10 minutes of my life wandering round looking for him! Of course it turned out he was sitting in a fire engine ride about 10 metres away from where we were standing watching us run around calling out for him

OP posts:
MarkStretch · 07/04/2009 21:07

Yeah Katieblirdsnest- it's a 'zip wire' not a 'big scary slide thing' as you were corrected by your dd!

I am just home. Knackered. But had a lovely lovely time. DD is totally in love with all 3 swamp monsters and talked about them all the way home.

I left my ticket on the train home and they refused to let me out of the barriers at Norwich station until I had unpacked my entire rucksack and found a crumpled receipt at the bottom to prove I had actually bought a ticket. Bastards.

Anyway, you're all great, can we do it again in the summer? Please, please?!
