I used to try to have ds1 in the bed with me, not to sleep, but just to hug and he has always hated it, even as a small baby, but think that was more the colic, but as some of you know, there's no settling a colicky baby and I managed to convince myself that ds1 didn't like me. It's only been since Luke was born that ds1's actually laid in bed with me, but he makes it clear I am not to touch him , little freak.
I don't really get the time or chance to do it with Luke either. Sometimes, if he wakes at 6am, I get him into bed with me for 20mins or so which is lovely to just be the 2 of us.

thom very sweet poem.
dinky sounds like a busy easter weekend for you. We're not doing much here. Dp's working tonight, but tomorrow we might drive over to my mum's and get the travel cot and booster seat for our little trip next week. Ds1 has a birthday party to go to on sat, so I'll take him there and dp can stay at home with Luke.

What is a potette??????

dinky how sweet about Danny laughing, especially at your decorating choices .

Ds1 seems so much better this afternoon, he has been 'chatting' away and been acting close to normal, but is still cuddled up to his dad and won't leave him alone, so I know he must still be feeling a little poorly. His temp is down though which is good.
If he doesn't have a temp, I should stop giving him calpol shouldn't I? Or shall I carry on giving a bit until he has fully recovered?

The funniest thing has been happening here, dp is walking around the flat singing 'compare the market' and ds1 is following him around saying 'doc dom'. Is very cute. Do you think that's a clear sign that Jacob watches far too much telly that he recognises jingles from adverts?

littleboyblue · 09/04/2009 18:29

Also wanted to ask, what should their temp be? I've just bought a new thermometer but the screen stays the same colour where the other one would flash green for ok and red for not. Is it anything over 37.5, or have I made that up?

thehouseofmirth · 09/04/2009 18:31

Dinky glad to hear it's not just Tarran who is amused by furniture!

herbgarden · 09/04/2009 19:49

LBB the "potette" is a travel potty. Glad DS is feeling perkier.

Last tally before bed was 8 wees, 2 poos and no accidents. I am assuming that as he gets used to the potty rather than pull up he won't wee quite as often as that a day. My friend who came this afternoon is also on Operation Potty Training this weekend with her DD (same age as DS ie July '06)- DS proudly showed her how it was done and he led her over to the potty to allow her to inspect the content . She's so far shown no interest whatsoever in it so my friend is not banking on complete success in four days.

DD is also happiest in our 60's avocado bathroom staring at the wall which houses the equally 60's heated towel rail .

Fish and Chips tonight and early bed for me. All that gluing, cutting, cooking and positive encouragement on the potty training has left me feeling a tad knackered.

have a good evening !

SweetTalkinWoman · 09/04/2009 19:59

That's it - I give up posting tonight! DH is out (again) and Sam is taking ages to settle so rather than getting frustrated at not having time to do what I want tonight, i'll save it for another time! Hope all well - enjoying reading about potty training (I'm dreading it tho!). Catch you tomorrow!

dinkystinky · 09/04/2009 20:31

Cheers HOM and Herb - maybe all our little ones are fledgling interior designers

STW - hmm, I think you need an evening out with your friends and to leave your DH in with Sam and Little O. Maybe try and arrange something to look forward to later in April or early May - it will do you the world of good and let DH know how hard it can be when its just one of you manning the fort...

Herb - potty training in 4 days sounds really hard core. Not sure your friend knows what she's letting herself in for. Our tally today was 6 wees, all in the potty and one on the loo at little kickers, a totally dry naptime nappy and one tiny wee on the bathroom floor - which I'm blaming DH for as he was running DS1's bath and didnt pop him on the potty when I told him to (I was feeding Danny in the bedroom to avoid the baby apocalypse as he hadnt properly slept since 4ish). However we havent had a poo for a couple of days so am expecting one over easter - somehow rather doubt it will happen in the potty...

LBB - glad that DS1 is feeling better. His singing the jingle end is so sweet!

STW When ds1 was bad with colic and reflux and all the rest of it, dp was out at work all day, would get in at 6ish and ds1 was going up to get ready for bed at about half past, so dp would be around him for maybe half an hour a day. It wasn't too bad on the weekends if dp wasn't working because we'd go out, mainly to my parents and they'd be all over ds so me and dp would spend the day sitting on the sofa in a blissful daze!
Whenever I complained that we had produced just the most horrid and unhappy baby ever, dp would say "Oh, he's not that bad. You just get too stressed too easy" . At the time, we also had a dog, so on top of being a first time mum with a miserable baby, I had a dog that needed walking at least twice a day, plus the dog meant that the hoovering and things had to be done everyday, and don't even get me started on the nightmares of fleas!!!!!!
So once you take into account, the baby, the dog, the housework, the food shopping, the preparing bottles, the fact that we were sharing a house with someone else and just day to day life in general,it was all very hard.
So when ds1 was about 2.5 months, I decided I'd had enough, so friday when dp was at work I packed myself an overnight bag and when dp got home from work I sai "see you sunday" and went to my mums convinced that this would enable dp to see the light. Well, of course he ordered pizza for dinner, so no cooking and no washing up, he didn't walk the dog, just let her in the garden, he did no washing, and ds1 was a completely different baby. He was apparently as good as gold all weekend and didn't cry once bar the middle of the night for a feed.
Although I didn't get the exact results I wanted, the fact that I had a weekend off did me the world of good. i went home relaxed and refreshed and ready to fight the world, until ds cried the minute I picked him up. It must just be me!!
Anyway, the hort version of all of that is, I agree with dinky get yourself out for the evening and leave dh with the lo's. You def deserve a few hours at the least away.
I also find prepare for the worst, hope for the best works well, then when they do fall asleep really quickly, it's a complete bonus and the 2 hours that was set aside for settling them is now free time and you time and something worth celebrating.

PinkTulips · 09/04/2009 21:41

herby....ds1 is july 06 too... the 28th

of your success so far... we're doing good and considering it was me instigating potty training not ds1 i think he's doing brilliantly but he's still got a ways to go i think...... had to lol at 4 days although we did have one breakthrough this evening.... he asked to go to the loo before he wet himself for the first time ever > just have to sort the poo issue now

btw.... ds1 only pees a few times a day... dd on the other hand would be doing good if she only peed 8 times a day so don't get your hopes up too much about him going less often

dinky... aaron spends hours examining the decor... sadly it must be too awful even for laughter as he's got a permanent look of shock on his face as he does so he's got the same hair fetish as ds1 had though... when dd gives him a kiss and her hair covers his face he goes mad with excitement and giggles... when ds1 was tiny i could have him in hysterics for hours just by waving my hair in his face...... weird little men i breed

STW... LBB has it spot on... 'prepare for the worst, hope for the best'. it's the only way to survive with a difficult baby

herbgarden · 10/04/2009 08:35

Oooh another Little Kicker here Dinky. DS loves it.

Thought we might have a backtrack today on OPT as DS didn't want his pants on when he got up he really wanted his pull ups. I told him that his little girlfriend never wears pull ups (she's the same age and potty trained) and always wears pants and he suddenly decided it was a good idea ...peer pressure is great sometimes.

Miserable weather here today but at least DH is home and we've got friends coming later and are out to dinner tonight. I got up early with the kids so I might shortly suggest I go out for a couple of hours on my own and sneak off to a coffee shop with my book. There ain't any peace here if I tried to do the same thing.

See you later !!

littleboyblue · 10/04/2009 08:38

Anyone ever get so tired you start to feel light headed and a bit drunk-like?
Ds1's temp was back up to 39 last nght so I think I've got to carry on with calpol 4 hourly regardless of his temp for the next 2 days at least, see what happens then. He was also kicking and hitting his arms and legs around, I don't know if it was out of frustration or if it was something he couldn't control, he'd pound the mattress and then jolt a bit, like when someone walks over your grave.
Dp got in at 6 and got them both up, something hit home the other day because he has washed up, sterilised bottles and wiped down the kitchen counters. The only thing he hasn't done is dress Luke but I'll let him off that one.

MarkStretch · 10/04/2009 09:48

Lbb- sorry to hear you had a bad night, and yes I find tiredness affects me like that too. I also start weeping at various points throughout the day.

MrsY- hope your back is feeling better.

Day 3 of reusable nappies here and it's going brilliantly! Even DH is impressed (although confused) and I've got my little routine of washing/drying already.

(apologies to herb for talking about nappies )

Had friends with babies round for lunch yesterday. Did a meal of small things we could dip in stuff as we all ended up feeding at some point.

We've all got colds in the Stretch household, including F who through up his whole feed after a coughing fit this morning, all over our bed. DD has finger trauma caused by a tictac box and is lying around resting the finger on various surfaces shouting 'I can't look at it'.

On the positive side, I AM GOING OUT TONIGHT! WOOOO! The breastmilk is defrosting as we speak! I am tempted to take a large handbag and my breastpump though as I will be in agony by the end of the night

MarkStretch · 10/04/2009 09:50

Good god, I just noticed my dreadful error, he threw up his feed.

littleboyblue · 10/04/2009 10:35

MS It's been 3 nights now I think, my poor little man
And your poor dd, that does sound quite funny though. (am only laughing because I assume it's not serious from a tictac box )
Have a great night out. Very

PinkTulips · 10/04/2009 10:53

lbb.... have you tried alternasting ibruprofen and calpol.... it really does work alot better for fevers (even ibruprofen on it's own is better than calpol ime when it comes to fevers) poor little guy

MS... cotton bums are lovely aren't they although i do find i'm having to resort to my emergancy stash of sposies too much recently due to forgetting to do the nappy wash

dinkystinky · 10/04/2009 10:57

LBB - sorry DS1 is still in the wars; sounds like a horrible virus. I hope he sleeps well during the day today so you can get some sleep in too.

MS - sorry you're all suffering with colds - and sweetie induced trauma in the case of your DD - in your house. When Danny had a cold he did the throwing up after every feed thing - mostly over me. Top tip - keep wipes and a change of clothes for you and Frank in every room of the house!

littleboyblue · 10/04/2009 12:26

PT Yeah, I was alternating them 2 hourly but then meant by night time he'd had pretty much the full dosage for the 24 hours.
I also find ibuprofen works alot better too so I am giving calpol during the day and ibuprofen at night because it seems to be worse at night and that's the time we all need our rest.

dinky yes, that would be lovely, but the boys are already playing their mum, I think they've had secret words with each other and decided it would be funny if one woke the second the other fell asleep. The little devil children angels

We wanted to drive over to my mum's today, I called her about an hour ago but she is still in bed suffering with a massive hang-over. Yesterday was my dad's 50th so he had a party round at his. His parties normally get slightly out of hand, with lots and lots of people and lots and lots of alcohol. For example, my parents threw a big party when their divorce came through and it went on for nearly 17 hours!

chilledmama · 10/04/2009 20:19

wee.

just got back from a week away at centreparcs and have missed about 12 pages!!!!!!!
Need to catch up but don't have time right now!!!

Beantin · 11/04/2009 09:11

square poo at 230 again so no sleep, again

Will be back up to speed here sometime soon. Just popped in to say 'hi' and spread some hugs

Calico1 · 11/04/2009 10:18

Beantin - Lilian has the opposite problem at the moment....liquid poo up to her armpits....v nice at 4am.

DIY nightmare continues here - DH has now painted the unreachable shelves with some sort of toxic paint that has left such bad fumes that I had to have both DS and DD in with me last night. DH had the spare room so got a full night's sleep again.... He's gone off to B&Q to get some more materials so Lord knows what the next 'project' will be this weekend. PT I wish I could send him over to you!

PinkTulips · 11/04/2009 11:17

ryanair flights are quite cheap

MarkStretch · 11/04/2009 11:23

Ooooooh I had a good night but my feet are killing me and I felt very old. Everyone else out seemed to be in their teens. I'm so old I took a warm cardie in case I felt a chill.

MarkStretch · 11/04/2009 11:23

AND WHERE THE HELL IS EVERYONE?

PinkTulips · 11/04/2009 11:59

parenting?

personally i opt for the 'let them run free and destroy my house' parenting style but i've heard rumours that some folks take a more 'hand's on' approach. this presumably eats into their internet time and is therefore clearly madness of the highest order.

glad you had fun ( at your cardi though )

aaron slept for 6 hours again last night..... would be feeling fabulously well rested if i didn't have bloody toothache

herbgarden · 11/04/2009 12:06

Morning all - I'm here ! I wondered that too when I checked in this morning.

Calico DH has decided to alsorts of jobs too although that means that yet again I'm left looking after both kids. Being in this house all day yesterday and the day before is doing my head in !!....And...I have a hangover on only two glasses of wine last night - I am such a cheap date. We did have a lovely time though out for dinner with old friends.

Anyway, I took DS to the softplay place this morning and left DH watching telly with DD. He's about to pressure wash our v.dirty/mossy patio and I'm about to make toasties for lunch - Im starving....
