bebe - poor wee Phoebe hope she feels better soon, on the room subject, DD1's room was like what you describe it's west facing so gets the sun from about 3pm so is boiling hot, what I did was got some blackout curtain liners from ebay, they don't take the sun away completely but about 3pm I shut her curtains and open the window stops the room getting too hot and stuffy, the room B will go into is East facing so sun in the morning cool at night. Such a hassle isn't it? On the sleeping bag front I would do vest and sleepng bag. Madam is still in a babygro with no vest as the way she crawls she gives herself carpet burns if she's not covered.

pigleychez · 01/06/2009 23:03

Bebe- Abigails gone to bed in just a babygrow/sleepsuit thingy with no vest, No sleeping bag tonight. If she needs to be in the sleeping bag to settle then id just say a vest or just nappy.
Hope P feels better soon. Its no fun for anyone is it

Minnie-Hope things go Ok with your job.

SK- Bethany sounds very strong willed

Jodie- Glad you enjoyed your trip. We did Longleat,Cheddar Gorge and Bath a few years ago. Im sure Abigail will love Longleat in a few years

Nowhere near a perfect housewife! - Just impatient and want jobs done ASAP! and unable to sit still for very long!

Scorching day here! Burnt my back whilst fence painting and scrubbing the decking clean. Dishwasher came today Was looking forward to using tonight untill we realised we hadnt bought any stuff for it! doh!

Abigail has started standing up on her own now.. She holds on then lets go, looks up at you with a big grin looking very proud of herself! Lasts about 30 secs before either falling or lowering herself down. Today she stood and started clapping before falling

Baby club tomorrow.. Havent been for 2 weeks as Abigail had Hand foot and mouth last week. Looking forward to seeing our friends again

Hi all,

sorry long time no see - RL's been a bit mad lately.

Isaac is cruising the furniture, can stand for a few seconds and walks with the wheelybug - and he's only just 10 months old - little bugger!

Can't believe there are birthdays already - how quickly the time goes!

Disney - I know I don't post much but I always pop in for a lurk to see what everyone is up to - and I find your updates inspiring, you and Sam are often in my thoughts and I'm always impressed by your strength and Sam's determination. It takes a great deal of strength to be honest and admit to the bad days. Please keep posting, you don't 'bring the thread down' at all, and I think many of us would miss you and Sam.

Both mine are sleeping in short sleeved top and 1 tog sleeping bags - they won't settle without their bags on.

Jodie - you certainly picked a fabulous weekend for your trip!

I'm hoping to BBQ for Isaac's birthday - DD's birthday is October so it's nice to have a summer birthday too, I foresee many bouncy castle parties in the garden!

disneystar1 · 02/06/2009 13:14

lol @ sweetkitty cut out the middle man and throw it on the floor.... thats exactly how i feel some days
your bethany sounds a right little character and she knows what she wants.....good for her.

disneystar1 · 02/06/2009 13:20

oh i forgot a quick post

samuel has a kind of nappy rash?????
small red spots over his bum all over his lower back the sides and tops of legs and hes itching terribly and scrathing bad
none of mine ever had napy rash is this it.
as i said before he can only lie on his back i have to turn him is this whats causing it?i change his nappy every 2 hours.

pigleychez · 02/06/2009 14:25

Could it be a heat rash? Try laying him on a towel without a nappy on for a while.

minipinkscottish · 02/06/2009 19:30

Does sound like a heat rash disney. How is ds's finger today?

At last the education dept have given me my new post...quite a big school and out of class role.. that kinda means promotion to dh but without the pay...they are sooooooooooooo sneeky!! However, it isn't too far away and it's a nice school so can't have it all ways

SK I think little Elodie is older than Abbie but don't know about Poppy....Abbie is June 13th...must look back and see our list....

bebejones · 02/06/2009 21:01

Disney - sounds like a heat rash to me too. I agree with Pigley try letting him cool down on a towel for a bit & see if that helps, would take him to GP if it gets worse or spreads.

Having a nightmare with our flat, the tennants moved in Saturday, and the boiler broke! They have no hot water, but it is under warranty. Now looks like the bloody thing needs replacing, it is less than 6 months old! We are probably going to have to give them some money back for the hassle! So typical, it worked fine on Friday! They are threatening to walk out & cancel their rent cheque. Poor DH has been chasing plumbers all day!

P is still sounding very wheezy & coughing up gunk. I am convinced she has hayfever aswell as mine is bad atm. She has a constant stream of snot from her nose & won't leave her eyes alone. But eveything I read says that it is very rare for them to suffer under 2. Hard to tell when she isn't well anyway. Maybe I am just a neurotic mother!

Can't believe babies are nearly 1! P is the last I think as she is August...means I get to nab lots of party tips!!

pigleychez · 02/06/2009 21:55

shortsafe- Welcome back

Bebe- Dont talk to me about boilers! Sounds like a nightmare you could do without.
Poor little P too

Another day painting fences [yawn] but at least the garden is starting to look good.
Had to keep stopping painting as it was sooo hot and hide in the shade for abit. On a plus note I appear to be getting a nice tan!

I have a question... How much milk do your bubbas drink during the day? Abigail seems to drink quite abit compared to some of our friends LO's but then she doesnt eat quite as much as them (BLW). Just be interesting to hear about your feed routines - milk and food.

Poledra · 02/06/2009 23:53

Evening all

Disney OMG, what a terrible thing to happen! Poor DS, I hope his finger feels better soon. Hugs to Sam

bebe, I've been wondering about O and hayfever too. She's rubbing her eyes a lot, which I assumed was sleepiness but also has a snotty nose. DD1 has just been put on hayfever meds to see if she has it or if it's just been a 4-week summer cold.

mini, I take it dh = deputy/dept head rather than anything to do with husbands

pigley, O bfeeds whenever she wants, along with having 3 meals a day and a snack about 3.30pm (when DD1 comes home from school and everyone else is eating - she can't miss out!). DH reckons she's going in for extreme bfeeding - Sat morning, when O woke up next to me, she decided she wanted to feed from the uppermost breast, so fought her way up onto her elbow, groped frantically with her mouth till she could grab hold of the nipple then held on for grim death, propping herself up on her hand! Wasn't the most comfortable of positions, I can tell you, but was quite funny. Basically, as I don't wear anything in bed, she nows just crawls all over me to get to where she wants to be and ends up feeding in the strangest of positions.

Re birthdays, DDs 1 and 2 have been invited to another friend's DD's birthday party that day, so we won't be doing anything elaborate for Orlaith. My parents are coming down, so we'll probably go out for a meal and have a birthday cake. Have no idea what we're going to get her as we really don't need any more baby toys (she got her highchair for her Christmas!). Isn't Peanut's Charlie the first one? Haven't seen her around for aaaaaaages....

disneystar1 · 03/06/2009 11:36

shortshafe · 03/06/2009 22:38

thanks pigley .

RE feeding - Isaac has breakfast @ 0830ish, 6 ozs formula @ 1030ish, lunch @1230ish, 6ozs formula @ 1430ish, tea @1630ish, supper at 1830ish and 8ozs formula @ 2000 just before bed. Some days it feels like all I do is feed them both - like a busy mummy bird!
He'd started to drop the afternoon bottle, but since it's been hot he's wanted it again.

Disney - oooo I love decorating and sorting the house, never enough time or money here though! Don't know how you do it, am in awe! Hope DS's finger can be saved. Oh, and very of the air con.

disneystar1 · 04/06/2009 09:18

took ds to gp last night and his finger is nasty
the top of the finger is pure white and he says the blood supply is bad there and it smells terrible....
im going to the hospital today and its polling day so the school is shut
ive got to take 4 small boys as well....im not looking forward to it..but got to be done

samuel is up and quite a happy chappy today
hes getting quite cross if hes playing and one of his brothers tries to take it away hes developed an animal shriek it kinda alerts me mom mom there getting my toys help!!!! funny and extremely annoying at times...
hes
hes taken to poking his tongue out just the tip upwards at the side of mouth all the time
we were at the gp yesterday and his latest thing is spit bubbles....
says mama real slow and blows the biggest bubble ever then it pops and im covered in spit....love it....

bebejones · 04/06/2009 12:34

Disney - your poor DS how horrid for him. Hope they can sort it out.

Pigley - Phoebe has 4oz at about 8am, then 'breakfast' of fruit/toast/yoghurt at 9am, lunch usually mixture of finger food & puree at 11.30/12ish followed by 4oz FF, then a snack about 2/3ish, 4oz FF at 4/4.30ish, dinner 5/6ish (again mix of finger foods & puree), then 6oz feed at 8 before bed. She doesn't eat much in the way off food though as she is a bit of a madam! I offer her as much water as possible though in between (she won't drink juice) but I think she ends up covered in most of it! Was told by HV that by 10months she should be having a total of 21oz (roughly) of dairy a day so to cut back her FF and make up the rest with yoghurt/cheese/milk in cereals etc. She doesn't seem hungry for anymore than she is having though, but she is quite diddy. A woman at baby group today said she was big! Her 7 1/2 month old was heavier, work that one out?

Baby group was a bit clicky, but was my first week so will try and stick it out. I say baby group but it was mainly toddlers as all the babies were awol!!! Phoebe enjoyed it but I spent most of my time trying to stop her poking the only other baby in the face while the mother pretty much ignored me. Felt a bit like a nobby no mates!!

pigleychez · 04/06/2009 13:29

Disney- Hope the fingers ok! Sounds nasty!

Bebe- Keep going to the babyclub... it will get better the more you get to know people.
Well done for going

Thanks for the replies re feeding.
21ozs! Abigail has much more than that! I was worried about her having too much. 3- 7oz bottles and 1- 8oz bottle plus breakfast, lunch and dinner.
However after getting weighed yesterday she only put on 4ozs in 4 weeks. She was abit off her food during her illness but 4ozs is nothing! Im feeling abit reluctant to cut down on milk now. She still has no teeth so dispite having a bloody good go she does struggle with some dinners so milk is an important top up. oh well, hopefully when we get teeth she will find things easier. Off to think of more soft dinners.

Abigail discovered the stairs yesterday for the first time. I was as they were a breeze for her! Better watch out! Also caught her heading out the patio doors the other day.. sitting on the step with her feet out the door!
Shes getting so clever at standing alone now and sprints along with me holding her hands. I struggle to keep up!

Took Abigail swimming today which she loves. Holding my hands she sprinted over to a mum with 2 little boys. Stood there smiling her head off and shreeching at them. She sat with the boys splashing with them. It was so sweet, she even cried when they got out!
We were then appoached by a swimming teacher asking if we wanted to join in with a free swimming lesson. So we did and it was great fun. Somethings slightly too old for Abigail but she still joined in.
Intructor told me about Adult and baby classes which also have a free session tomorow so going to pop along and try that out with the view to signing her up for lessons. All in all we spent 2 hours in the pool! Abigail is shattered and been asleep 2 hours now!
Really should finish painting the fences whilst shes asleep but im knackered too!

bebejones · 04/06/2009 20:48

Pigley - sounds like you had a fab day! I really want to take Phoebe swimming but am not feeling brave enough to get my wobbly bits out yet!! I think 21oz is a rough guide if A is happy I don't think you should worry too much. P's weight gain has slowed considerably but she is eating more. It's probably because she is so active! It definately sounds like A is keeping you on your toes! Phoebe loves the stairs too, and is up them in a flash, I am terrified but we have had to order a special gate to fit our stairs very frustrating! She has also taken to pulling herself up on anything available & then letting go and standing on her own she does really well but then gets excited that she is doing it and falls over!

Must go & do some bejewelled before bed! Hope everyone is ok & enjoying themselves xx

ponto · 04/06/2009 23:31

Hi all, have been very busy so have only been reading with no time to post. Also Bryony has been getting up at 5.30 so I have been exhausted, as I find it hard to get to bed before midnight most nights. I don't even know what I am spending all my time doing - the house is a tip, there is a massive pile of ironing and I've got to prepare for my annual appraisal for work but never seem to get round to it. Pigley, I need some of your energy!

Sounds like a lot of the babies are at the same stage with the standing without holding on and climbing stairs. Bryony was out in the garden the other day and managed to climb up onto the patio and then into the house, she was most pleased with herself! I was not happy as it means that there is no safe place to leave her in the garden, she is so speedy that by the time I go in to get the washing out of the machine she will be perched at the top of some scary looking steps.

Disney, I hope your ds's finger is ok, it sounds really nasty for him. Glad Sam had a happy day today, he sounds a real character.

Pigley, Bryony has a breastfeed when she wakes, cereal at 8, raisins or a biscuit mid-morning, a Dairylea sandwich and some fruit puree at 12.30, breastfeed and snack mid-afternoon, tea at 5.30 (usually pasta and sauce followed by a yogurt), breastfeed at 7 before bed. I have no idea how much she's taking at each feed, but she has dairy at nearly every meal too so she must be getting plenty of calcium. Are you wanting to cut down the amount of milk Abigail has to encourage her to eat more? What happens if you give her a smaller bottle of milk, does she cry for more?

Bebe, well done on braving baby group, I think you should have a go at swimming too. I'm sure Phoebe will love it, and it will help her to be confident in the water if she starts now. Really, don't worry about your wobbly bits, I always take comfort in the fact that I must look better now than I did when I was 9 months pregnant and was bulging out of my vast maternity swimming costume!

Shortshafe, I know what you mean about the constant feeding of children, I spend hours in the kitchen (and I'm not making gourmet meals here, even just making pasta and pesto or cheese sandwiches takes me ages!)

Poledra, I know what you mean about extreme bfeeding. I decided to get into the bath with Bryony yesterday evening as I'd had a long day and I was tired. She was delighted to see naked boobies though and clambered up me to attach herself like a little limpet!

Do any of you know whether it would be feasible to continue bfing when separated from your baby for a week? I'm going to my brother's wedding in Bali in September, leaving the dcs with dh. Bryony will be 14 months old and I'd assumed I would have stopped feeding her by then but now I'm thinking I might not have. Do you think that if I took a pump with me and pumped a bit each day to keep the supply up, that she would start feeding again when I got back?

Just realised this is a massive post. Must go to bed in case of another early start tomorrow.

MinnieMummy · 05/06/2009 13:28

Ponto I'm no expert but I'd say it's theoretically possible, absolutely, but have you tried expressing recently anyway? I only say that because IME once you're not exclusively BF I've always found it harder to get the reflex going because I'm not as 'full'. But it's different for everyone..

Poppy waking up at 5.30 every bloomin morning too, she usually goes back to sleep but only if she's lying next to me. So tonight she's in her brother's room as it's a bit darker to see if that makes a difference! She is pulling herself onto her knees upright (she's like a little meerkat in her crib bobbing up and down) but won't properly weight bear on her feet. Her brother didn't walk until 16mths so I'm not worried.

Sweetkitty, oh buggy/pram guru (or indeed anyone else!) can you advise me please? We have a maclaren XT as a lightweight short-walk buggy type of thing, it's great except for one thing - it's really quite hard to push with one hand (e.g. when holding onto DS with the other). Is there something out there that's equally lightweight, collapsible etc. but has a horizontal bar?? Am happy with something cheapy and second-hand but I have no idea where to even start looking.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts re my job, I think it's unlikely that it will actually work out for me, there's a big meeting next tuesday that I can't actually attend but we're not thinking that management will change their minds. Just have to wait and see!

ponto · 05/06/2009 14:06

No I've not tried expressing for ages, I hate doing it and am not very good anyway, but I'm supposing that I'll have to try something while I'm away or there'll be no milk at all by the time I get back. I do feel quite 'full' in the evenings on the days that I work and miss out her afternoon feed, so I'm hoping that I might be successful.

Another 5.30am start here, I must go to bed earlier tonight. Dh is away for a couple of weeks so there is no chance of a lie-in even at the weekend

disneystar1 · 05/06/2009 14:07

hi all just had a walk through matalan and got some very cute short dungaress for samuel, t shirts and shorts set for the boys oh new pants socks ect....cost me a small fortune but needed, me i treated myself to a new pink bra....
it seems odd to me all these babies trying to walk /crawl pull themselves up when samuel is still lying flat unable to turn himself over.... he doesnt get anywhere if i lie him on the lounge floor he cannot move or even push himself back with his feet, takes so much of his energy to breathe or shake a rattle most days....dont get me wrong im very happy and love hearing about your little people but it does make me a bit sad knowing hes clinging to life and it feels so damn unfair. its all there in his head but his body doesnt respond
last night i was reading him his bedtime book and there was a pic of a bottle of milk he tries to grab the milk of the page and is most puzzled that he cant
i hope one day i see him moving around apparantly he has no muscle tone???? they said thats why he cant move theres no strength there, hes all floppy.

question here has anyone had the mirena coil fitted? ive had a chat with my gp who says its great for contraception and heavy periods. but can cause discomfort to begin with
anyone got ant input on this please!!!!

ponto · 05/06/2009 14:57

Hi Disney, I had the Mirena coil put in as I wanted something really reliable for contraceptopn and apparently it's as good as sterilisation. It suits me fine, was nowhere near as bad as I thought to put in and I'm not really having periods, just occasional very light bleeds, don't even need a panty liner really (mind you I am still bfing). On the downside, my skin is awful, which I'm surprised about as I used to take the mini pill (same type of hormones)and I was fine with that.

disneystar1 · 05/06/2009 16:20

ah thanks for that ponto....bit of reasurance is nice to hear....

TheRedSalamander · 06/06/2009 09:05
