I think I would do it if I could just break even but to come out OWING after slogging my guts out & having all the hassle of dropping off, picking up, and basically never seeing my kids. It's just crazy. Something far wrong when people stopped from working by such high childcare costs. And I have a reasonable enough job too. Teaching not exactly highly paid, but above the average for sure. How does anyone manage it?

HellHathNoFury · 06/04/2009 15:51

TB, Daisy, I ask myself the same question every time.

I looke at being a childminder myself but ofsted rules are just bonkers.

TALLULAHBELLE · 06/04/2009 15:53

Oh BTW Norty if you are still around. I just got more Gaviscon infant sachets for DT1 from the chemist on the minor ailments scheme. No script needed so if you think DS would benefit no need to see your crappy GP just ask at pharmacy. Has really helped Thing1's puking tho she is still a moany wee midden so not quite the miracle I had hoped for.

LackaDAISYcal · 06/04/2009 15:54

surely you can tighten your belt though for £38 a month fury, or else do something part time when DH is around to look after the DC?

OP posts:
TALLULAHBELLE · 06/04/2009 15:54

Yep Fury - I thought of childminding myself but I am already full.

HellHathNoFury · 06/04/2009 15:56

Daisy I have a plan! And a backup plan!

Can't tighten belt. Got 2 houses to pay for, I need to clear £300 per month.

LackaDAISYcal · 06/04/2009 15:58

I know T...my earnings potential is mid 30s and I'd be handing over most of that. Makes me wonder why I bothered slogging my way through Uni and sitting bloody difficult professional exams.

I really need them to make me redundant.

HellHathNoFury · 06/04/2009 16:15

TB do you have my private email? Can you drop me a line?

LittleMissNorty · 06/04/2009 16:16

Blimey, makes me realise I am very lucky and definately no more babies as I def wouldn't be able to put 3 in nusery 3 days a week. My childcare costs will be nearly £13k a year for 3 days a week from December . There is no way we could manage if both of us didn't work....well I suppose we would have to...you have to cut your cloth accordingly and just get on with it, but scary thought.

fucking hell....DD is walking around taking swigs of left over formula from DS's bottle!

My friend done an easter egg hunt in her garden for DD and her 2.....K got the hang of it rather too quickly, and tried to nick everyone elses chocolate as well as her own!

LackaDAISYcal · 06/04/2009 16:22

norty, DD has drunk some ebm on occasion

bumble is definately out of sorts with his tummy. He has thrown up all over me and it stinks. He keeps letting out red faced groans as well every so often. but he won't sleep and won't be put down for more than five minutes.

OP posts:
TALLULAHBELLE · 06/04/2009 16:25

Nope Fury, don't have it.

TALLULAHBELLE · 06/04/2009 16:27

Norty - did you see my post about the Gaviscon?

LittleMissNorty · 06/04/2009 16:34

Sorry T, yes, I meant to ask about it - is it just Boots or any chemist? I shall definately ask. Do I have to pay for it as I would calpol or something and just cut out the GP bit?

When I was in Boots yesterday, I saw some SMA Easy Digest or something (DS is on normal SMA atm) and we ummed and ahhed about buying some, but thought it was probably a gimmick and I would have to rely on them stocking it as I've never seen it anywhere else.

If my local Boots do that scheme I shall go there (they employ a dozy pharmacist who gave my DH 25 boxes of gaviscon liquid sachets instead of 12 cos she done her maths wrong!!)

Still no phone call from GP about jabs . I shall complain to the PCT I think and just copy in the practice manager.

LittleMissNorty · 06/04/2009 16:35

Poor bumble Daisy....are you weaning him yet? Still having crappy nights with him?

TALLULAHBELLE · 06/04/2009 16:54

Norty - go to your local chemist, say you are on mat leave & want to sign yourself & both DC's on minor ailments scheme. Then you can get a range of medicines free without prescription for you & kids. Including Calpol. You can only get them at the chemist you register with so choose the most convenient for you. AFAIK all pharmacies take part in the scheme. Whenever I need anything it is my first port of call. Saves a trip to the GP.

LackaDAISYcal · 06/04/2009 16:55

he's had a bit of plum baby four grain porridge, and yesterday at breakfast with a teeny bit of banana added to it, but nothing since then.

He is finally asleep under the baby gym, on his side, face planted onto the mat! Daren't move him incase he starts crying again.

Thanks T

Poor thing Daisy....hope he hasn't got a bug

During my daily fight with DD over dinner, I can see she has an ulcer on the end of her tongue (no wonder she won't eat her satsumas atm ).....any ideas ladies? Can I put teething bonjela on it?

Oh, DS just puked down my cleavage - nice!

TALLULAHBELLE · 06/04/2009 17:25

Ouch!Satsumas would be nippy in the extreme. Bonjela should numb it a bit I'd imagine.

TheNatty · 06/04/2009 17:26

you lot got me thinking about what im doing for going back to work now.
i want to go back to college in sept 10, id go back this september, but the idea of expressing several times a week and potentially having a baby who may not sleeping though is putting me off.

i was thinking of training to be a teacher, but u lot got me worried there will be no jobs and i wont be able to afford the childcare

bugger.

oh and i was supposed to drop toms nursery form in at my local school before the easter break and totally forgot to. do you think there will be anyone about in the school or should i just drop it in first thing monday?

TheNatty · 06/04/2009 17:30

bonjeala always works for me, stings when you put it on though poor baby

sorry to hear bumble poorly, i missed the throw up post as there was SO much to read you lot being super chatty today

thanks for all the posts suporting me on this issue, the docs surgery made me feel like i was making a fuss about nothing, but you guys saying i should def go has helped.
i will go online and find the number, im notbooked in at my local hospital (STILL!) so i dont have any information and going to all the way to kings is a bit extreme. suppose this way i can have a sneaky look at local hospital and decided whether or not to change.

TheNatty · 06/04/2009 17:31

oh and fury i meant to ask, have you moved near me now then? would be nice to meet up

HellHathNoFury · 06/04/2009 18:54

I don't know where you are Natty - I am Ealing/Southall way. Is that near you?

TheNatty · 06/04/2009 19:13

im lewisham/bromley im easy to get to london, its one 15 min train to london bridge. you?

HellHathNoFury · 06/04/2009 19:45

ooh london bridge I think is ages away - I don't know I haven't been that way, but it takes me about 30 mins to get to Oxford St. I am at the end of the Central Line

TheNatty · 06/04/2009 19:55

well im sure we can find somewhere between us!

ive actually gone to bed, at 7.30, im not going to sleep, but im taking it easy on DH orders that if he comes home to a tide house he will not be pleased.

now i NEVER thought i would hear that
