Rolf - I'd probably call the Dr too - hope you had an okay night and yes, you can give Ibuprofen and Calpol at the same time. I alternate them by a few hours so that there's a continual dose and they don't have that miserable bit while the calpol is wearing off but it's too soon to give them another dose.

My ongoing house saga of minor incidents continues - the (new) boiler broke last night. Plumber's coming around soon, I'd better get out of my pjs.

Fraser had a crap night last night, crying at 3:30,4:30,5:00 (in bed with me for a feed), 5:30 (back in bed). I took a anti-histamine though so I was well drugged and DH was responsible and he didn't get up with him once, just listened in . I feel really guilty today and poor Fraser is very tired.

good luck Deb!

DebInAustria · 23/04/2009 08:41

{blush] I chickened out - but in my defence Ethan fell asleep 5 minutes before we were leaving and he can sleep 2 hours in the morning(on a lucky day) so I couldn't refuse 2 hours of baby free time. I'll pretend to be a toddler later and pinch all his toys!

Abdn - sorry you had a bad night and you new boiler has gone wrong too - hopefully things will start to improve now.

Rolf · 23/04/2009 08:50

I'm going to call the gp this morning. She didn't have a very good night. I didn't give her any medicine in the end as I was reluctant to give her poor tummy anything else to cope with, and also her temperature was all over the place. When I went to get the calpol she'd cooled down again. I hope the gp can help. It's like having a different child in the house

DebInAustria · 23/04/2009 09:04

Oh Rolf, I hope she picks up soon, it's awful when they're not themselves and even worse as babies when they can't tell you what's wrong.

AliandHerScallywag · 23/04/2009 09:07

Not up to date on the thread, but wanted to say thank-you for all your nice messages about P. He continued with lots of horrid poos all day Tuesday, yesterday was still dodgy but less frequent, and today so far seems more normal. The nappy rash seems to be better too.

We discovered yesterday that P is probably long sighted and will need glasses at some point inthe future. Hideous appointment at the hospital to establish this. Lots of NHS cock ups, so feeling a bit annoyed about the hoo haa, and sad about the diagnosis. We are all convinced that his eye sight is fine, especially when he eats specks of dirt off the floor .

MIL here this week so not much chance to read or post. It's lovely to have her here though. She did his bath last night and I got to cook properly for once. I am very lucky to have such a nice MIL.

DebInAustria · 23/04/2009 09:13

OK, I will apologise now but this is a blatant plea for business. Our summer bookings are looking dismal so I need to do something to get some interest. We're offering 10% off our summer prices to bookings made via MN. We can offer self catering or bed and breakfast, evening meals can be taken at a local restaurant. Cheap flights from Stansted and Gatwick. We can also do airport pick up for those who don't want to hire a car. Great reviews on Trip Advisor - see our website. In the village there's walking, climbing, outdoor pool, tennis, shop and restaurants, cable car, etc or use us as a base for exploring the area. We can do train station transfers to the nearest train station (10 mins away) and from there you can get to Salzburg, Zell am See, the great spas at Bad Gastein, etc etc etc....

So please my MN friends pass the word round to friends/family/work colleagues. If any of you can put us on work intranet things I'd be really grateful.

THANKS

spongebrainmaternitypants · 23/04/2009 09:14

Deb, lol at Stefen - do you need some lessons?

paro, ohmigod, that dress is beautiful!

AH, sorry to hear about your rough night .

Rolf, poor Thea - hope the GP can give you something to make her feel better .

Ali, how interesting that P's been told he needs glasses. A couple of the NCT babies have problems with their eyes - one has one eye that is permananetly closed and one has a suspected squint. We were talking yesterday about how on earth they diagnose sight problems in a pre-verbal child?! I mean, how on earth can they tell when the LO can't tell them what they can see? I'm obviously not an expert, but one of the girls knows someone with a baby younger than ours who already has glasses ! Very strange.

Fingers crossed they've got it wrong. As I know from very personal experience, doctors don't know everything!

V about nice relationship with MIL!

DebInAustria · 23/04/2009 09:14

Glad P's better Ali, but about the eye diagnosis. What made your GP?HV think there was a problem in the first place?

DebInAustria · 23/04/2009 09:16

x posted - hi Sponge, yes obviously after 3 children I need lessons!

spongebrainmaternitypants · 23/04/2009 09:16

Deb, your place sounds idyllic and if I wasn't pg I'd bite your hand off!

Will try and put the word round. Sorry to hear business is bad.

DebInAustria · 23/04/2009 09:20

DebInAustria · 23/04/2009 09:21

oops, don't know what happened there

PiggyPenguin · 23/04/2009 10:10

Just posting to check in on Rolf and hoping things are better. Also that I am so obviously list anal. Its a compulsion!

abdnhiker · 23/04/2009 10:34

Deb sorry bookings are so poor. That must be unsettling. I wish we were in a position to have a holiday there - although travelling anywhere from Aberdeen is a job and a half. This recession is crap isn't it!

I had a moment of panic with the budget announcement about tax for high earners (over £150K) and I'm relieved it's actually for high earners, not just over the £37K or what ever it is. (Not like it affects my income, but DH is above the threshold). Money sucks - or worrying about it does at least.

systemsaddict · 23/04/2009 11:43

Thanks for the concern those who have asked, things are definitely looking up. I have had several stretches of 4+ hours sleep this week and feel miles better than a couple of weeks ago.

Rolf sorry Thea is still poorly. Bet they tell you it's a virus ... temps and symptoms do go up and down as they get over a virus, esp a nasty one. We also alternate ibu and paracetamol here if they are really poorly, after Liam's hospital experiences last year this is what we were advised to do.

Deb will see if I can talk dp into a holiday in Austria, we haven't been away for ---- oh God, probably not abroad together for 15 years!! (he doesn't like travelling much and I always did mine with work, but now we have a family will force him into it)

abdn thank you thank you, thanks to your suggestion we now have a new system, Liam gets a toy taken away each time he scratches someone and can earn it back by being co-operative. Much better than stickers which were too abstract for him. Had good results this morning so fingers crossed ....

Both mine have had eye tests for different reasons. They do different things, eg show them cards and see if they grab for the right thing, or see if their eyes follow toys at a distance. There are a lot of things they can't tell until they're verbal though.

Can't believe it's coming up to a year already, I'm starting to get flashbacks. Didn't realise ours were birthday buddies sybil!

Hi all,

Paro - that is a gorgeous dress - very unusual and will look lovely with all the green.

Rolf - what did the docs say?
Systems - glad you have had some sleep - I had 5 hours last night - what joy!!

Ali - the speck of dirt comment made me laugh - Luke does that too - why????

Off to meet Puree now.

Forgot to mention I am off on hols next Wednesday - hurrah - very excited. Also going to try and make a sibling for Luke which probably won't work comsidering how little sleep i have had and how stressed Mark is but a shag's a shag right

Rolf · 23/04/2009 12:01

Systems glad things are looking up.

Ali about Peter's eyes. DD1 had eye tests as an infant but I think it was just to assess the structure of her eyes. I'd be interested to hear how they can assess long sightedness in an infant.

Aberdeen sorry you had a bad night as well. And hope the boiler can be sorted out.

Deb lol at chickening out of the toddler group. You've really got to be in the right mood haven't you? I rarely am .

Paro that dress is beautiful . Belated happy birthday!

Sybil was it you who re-formatted the ante-natal list as well?

Thanks so much for all the concern. Thea has a chest infection and the gp gave her antibiotics. She's much more cheerful and interractive too - she pulled my nose for the first time in days, and is chatting a bit, too. I hope this means she's on the mend.

Rolf · 23/04/2009 12:08

Oh, I forgot the real news. When I was in the newsagents I was asked if I'm expecting again . I'll put my hand up to being rather knackered and snot/sick stained, but certainly not pregnant. So please all tell me that I look fabulous

Sponge are you looking pregnant yet? How is Spongelet?

systemsaddict · 23/04/2009 12:38

Rolf you are not alone, Liam insisted all morning that I have a baby in my tummy again . I have bought spanx! Am also back on carb addicts' diet (as of last 24 hours), mainly 'cos of recent depression as it helps me with that in an extraordinary way, but side effect should hopefully be a reversal of my currently expanding profile ...

Amber good luck! AFAIK the quality of the shag doesn't affect possibilities for conception After all the TTC we had to do first time round I am a veteran of many, many 'oh God is it that week again all right let's get it over with then' shags

abdnhiker · 23/04/2009 13:29

Rolf and you do look fabulous. DS1 just thinks my tummy looks hurt (stretch marks) and wrinkled from the bath. Unfortunately it's not just wrinkled at bathtime. (why isn't there a giggle smiley?)

Amber a shag is definitely a shag, and even when I'm not that keen because of exhaustion it does make me feel more desirable. (I had to rewrite that line three times because of the potential for innuendo) systems when we were TTC we found the same thing. I don't know how anyone could have sex every single night like the newspaper article that resulted in spongelet suggested (so therefore is the best article ever). Every other night might be fun, but every night is just not spontaneous enough.

Thank goodness it's not cold out today. Stupid boiler can't be fixed today by our plumber because it's under warranty so we had to call the manufacturer and they are sending someone up tomorrow. I'm thankful Fraser decided to cry while I was on the phone with them as the woman was very sympathetic and promised they'd be here tomorrow (instead of potentially Monday).

Ali hope Peter's eyes are okay.

I am avoiding my NCT group today because I'm too down and stressed, mainly because of sleep deprivation (hugs to systems and Amber and everyone else). They're all considerably better off than us with way better support systems (grandparents, siblings etc) and I sometimes end up feeling very small and poor after seeing them (which is ridiculous because we're perfectly comfortable and very lucky.) Anyways, am having a colleague & her baby over instead and we will gossip about workmates. Much preferable.

systemsaddict · 23/04/2009 13:51

oh bugger, just been down for C's lunchtime feed and my milk supply's disappeared again. This happened last time I tried to go back on this diet, which is why I've put it off till now. But I know that it will make me feel 100x better ... it's the effect on depression that made me stick to it for 6 years before getting pg first time round. I'm tempted to give it a few days this time, take some fenugreek and see if my body adapts. Rolf was it you who was trying the carb addict's diet - did you find it affected your milk supply at all?

Amberc · 23/04/2009 15:01

Does the carb addict diet mean you can eat loads of carbs? I'd like that . Just been to Greenwich park and got burnt - that is a burnt emoticon! Been talking to Puree about dieting only to put it all on again by getting pregnant which is why I can't be arsed to try and lose weight twice! I have made no attempt whatsoever to lose weight as i'm too lazy! Has anyone else found that since haiving a baby they have a completely different shaped body?

I think the whole concept of a shag making a baby stops it from being romantic and changes it to functional but Mark gets it so infrequently that he won't care if I just lie there!

systemsaddict · 23/04/2009 15:43

Not quite Amber - eating lots of carbs is what's got me where I am today! The diet is eating carbs only once a day, with the idea that this keeps blood sugar levels balanced and tones down the carb cravings. Protein and veg the rest of the time.

Yes, my body is now shaped very differently, it's like one of those cottage loaves with a round top layer and an even rounder bottom layer. I try not to care as I really don't believe weight or shape is a good way to judge somebody, and my inner feminist is appalled at me, but there does come a point where I start to feel very uncomfortable with my shape and I hit that some time ago.

abdnhiker · 23/04/2009 15:53

systems I was hoping the same as Amber. My body is definitely different - I've lost muscle mass which actually means I weigh less than before. But it's not quite as good as it sounds as my shape is very different, I now fit best in M&S jeans rather than Gap or Next. Mum-bum.

Had a lovely visit with work colleague! Her 7 month old is adorable and DS1 was very well-behaved and played with him and made him giggle for ages.
