OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
PetitFilou1 · 17/03/2009 14:58

sambo btw I hope you didn't feel offended by my post about sleep. I really really struggle without sleep though so trying to be helpful. Can you just think of me as well intentioned

pertelote · 17/03/2009 14:59

ALBS I am right there with your DH on that one. I had the same thought when I read some snarky journo complaining about pushchairs taking up the pavement - my baby has limited autonomous mobility; I am her carer and any polite, considerate person would consider whether they or I can more easily step off the kerb to let the other pass, for instance. Stiff letter time, methinks (or set Dizzy on them )

CaptainCaveman · 17/03/2009 15:28

unexpectedly home from work as Oliver is poorly with a temp. Not too much else wrong with him, thank the Lord, just not quite himself . On the plus side, I am enjoying the extra time I am having with him today .

GG 3 masters . I have a BSc and have just started my masters in public service management....can't ever see me doing another 2 MScs!!! I bow in utter admiration!

pertelote · 17/03/2009 16:36

Aw, CC, hope little O is soon feeling better.

I am also in awe of VG's triple masterage! Do the letters after your name spell anything amusing?

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 17/03/2009 16:55

lol at amuzing letters but seriously vg well done you.

cc so sorry about Oliver poor little man

dd still got high temp too, she looks like someone just slapped wither cheek and is currently half on my knee trying to whine, but very lethargic.

How high is too high?? iykwim

Doctor just rang to say something has shown up on the urine samples, but wasn't sure what but they were running some more tests or something?????
very difficult accent to understand over the phone he mumbled Ketosis or something, but is going to phone as soon as finds out.
?????????? another waiting game then.

dizzydixies · 17/03/2009 17:00

oh No1 am very at him phoning to say there is something but not sure what, what the hell was the point in that?!? have you taken her temp with a baby thermometer? does it not give you some instruction on the packet?

pf am already dreading DD2's parents night and she doesn't go to school until 2011!!

CC kisses to O hope he's ok soon, how did the granny survey turn out

dizzydixies · 17/03/2009 17:02

sorry forgot, normal is classed as between 36-38 degrees anything higher is classed as a fever. if unsure at all please phone NHS24 for proper advice

alittlebitshy · 17/03/2009 17:14

am loling. Changed H's nappy. Left him in his room and went to put nappy in bin in bathroom and have a wee myself. Walked back into his room maybe 90 seconds later and at a first glance can't find him.... Listen for the babbling and there he is all the way under his cot. Lol lol. Had to call dd to come and see.

Miamla · 17/03/2009 18:21

albs that's brill! time to start baby proofing your living room now though!

no1 high temp and lethargic = phone NHS direct imo. hope dd's ok

cc sorry to hear ds poorly, how's he doing now?

expectant i'm pleased to hear that there's another ridiculously adventurous baby out there!

DS has just stood up from sitting on the floor and stayed standing for a few seconds. i'm speechless!!
lol, he's back to being a baby again now and is chewing a sock. that's better!

PetitFilou1 · 17/03/2009 19:33

miamla Toby isn't even sitting up yet (not even vaguely) I'm quite happy with the situation with him just rolling about a bit for the moment!

dizzydixies · 17/03/2009 19:36

pf dylan is the same, she can sit up but only for a wee while. I think its my fault - as she is to be my last I am determined to keep her as a baby FOREVER!!!!! DD1 was doing so much more stuff by now BUT I'd also given up feeding and was back to work by now, not going to happen this time she'll be going to school in a babygrow if I have my way

PetitFilou1 · 17/03/2009 19:41

dizzy I know exactly what you mean. I am not in a rush at all this time. I like to think I have two actual children and one baby for now as it sounds easier than admitting you have three real live actual children who outnumber you

I am trying not to imagine 2010 Christmas when Toby is 2 and dh is deployed to Afghanistan and I have a 2 year old, a 6 year old and a 5 year old to look after (or will that be easier ....... ho hum)

alittlebitshy · 17/03/2009 19:42

he's not crawling just rolling and rolling and rolling still. he WANTS to crawl but can't get the actions to co-ordinate.

He can sit up v well. the other day dh plonked him on the living room floor after dinner while dd watched cbeebies and we were clearing up. I went in and out but realised he'd been sat up for 40 mins without a tumble .

PetitFilou1 · 17/03/2009 19:43

albs You are officially allowed to move up to the next car seat then (if he weighs enough)

dizzydixies · 17/03/2009 19:44

pf mine is working too you're very welcome to come up here for Christmas

AlBS thats great, clever boy

GreenGardenia · 17/03/2009 20:01

I too am at Theo's precocity (word?), nothing like that here, we are still wedging cushions behind him when he is sitting up. Looks as if you're getting some nice mileage there too albs!

LOL at the amusing letters but also now feel I was boasting, please miss, I wasn't, it's just I can never settle to one thing. LOL at "triple masterage" sounds like some sort of game Buckets might play in her corset...

No1 what is her temp? I would say Calpol, lots of water and phone the doc.

pf I think it definitely is easier from 4 / 5 on, they do become responsible, rational and companionable. I mean they will prac be cooking your turkey . Sometimes I think my fave stages are 6m-2 and then 4-9. 10 has been a challenging age for darling ds1, losing childish ways yet so far off the teens.

CC sorry O was not well today, hope his temp has dropped.

GreenGardenia · 17/03/2009 20:03

I mean of course I adore ds1 at ALL ages.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 17/03/2009 20:12

ok sorry for me me me again her temp is 39.2 think I will call nhs direct for some advice. just hate sounding like neurotic mum. think medicine brought it back down but once wore off it goes back up.
does high temp me they are fighting something or brewing something??

dizzydixies · 17/03/2009 20:18

No1 I could mean so many things that when a child is involved they will take details and have someone phone you back - please do

VG I was sitting upstairs thinking the very same thing earlier tonight, about how this is my fav stage with Dylan but how I love the stage that DD2 is at because her speech is becoming so much clearer and that I love where DD1 is too because of the questions she's asking e.g

tonight convo between DD1 and DH

DD1 - Daddy, why don't I get to stay up late like you and mummy?
DH - because this is mum and dad's time to get stuff done
DD1 - like what?
DH - well Daddy has to go to work and......
DD1 - mummy has to sit and watch tv all night as usual

I think its about time I give my daughter a better impression of me

GreenGardenia · 17/03/2009 20:26

No1 I am useless at giving medical advice (and reluctant too) but see here explains what a fever is and how to treat etc, but for speed for you, copied and pasted from that page:

When to call a doctor

It can be hard to know when to call your GP or out-of-hours service, as parents often worry that they will be dismissed for making a fuss. Generally, if in doubt, contact a doctor for advice.

NHS Direct nurses can give advice 24-hours a day on 0845 46 47 and is a good place to start if you're not sure what to do. Their website (www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk) advises that you contact your GP or go to hospital if your child:

is unusually sleepy
won't drink fluids
has an unusual rash
has a headache
has a stiff neck
has difficulty breathing
has had a febrile convulsion
has a febrile convulsion that lasts longer than five minutes
doesn't seem to be getting better after a febrile convulsion
has more than one convulsion, one after another

GreenGardenia · 17/03/2009 20:29

I think the NHS line people will have experience of the truly neurotic mums. You will sound nothing like that. Anyone would say you are right to act on the safe side. I am sure your dd will be right as rain again shortly but you lose nothing by checking, and that is what the NHS Direct is there for.

PetitFilou1 · 17/03/2009 20:33

vg I'm afraid I have not always enjoyed ALL ds1's stages! I have to agree though 5 is his best stage yet I think. I did not enjoy his babyhood as had PND so missed out on that . I feel I am reliving it a bit with Toby who is very similar to ds1 as a baby.

lol lol at buckets and triple masterage

no1 Just keep giving calpol and do the not many clothes/cool flannels thing if necessary. I hope NHS Direct are helpful. I don't find them terribly helpful tbh as they operate via algorithms and it is a 'do not deviate from the system' mentality at times but they should give sensible advice re children and temperatures at least

cc Hope O is also ok

PetitFilou1 · 17/03/2009 20:36

dizzy lol will there be cake - I hope so

dizzydixies · 17/03/2009 20:36

pf I too had terrible PND with DD2 and as a result I'm wracked with guilt over it - I can't remember things that I wish I could. In fairness to myself though there were reasons but I just wonder sometimes if I haven't done her justice

GreenGardenia · 17/03/2009 20:39

dizzy that's an inaccurate representation of your evening. She didn't mention the MNing... Can you advise, tonight should I watch Heston B making a Tudor feast, or Mistresses, which I have never seen? There will be tea and a square of chocolate (day off, day off) for my enhanced viewing pleasure.

pf that you feel you missed out on enjoying ds1's babyhood. 5 is fun though, there are such nice chats and yet they are still young enough for the cuddles and they still think you are a goddess. (DS1 does not think I am a goddess any more...)
